  1. Nor can you achieve the DOF, Extreme Tele of MFT on a FF format. Different tools with ups and downs to both. I mostly use large sensors for stills and then its Full Frame that has a weird crop factor, difficulty to achieve wide angle and need super fast glass to get any sort of SDOF. I shoot Medium Format, its nice but also has a pretty tough crop factor compared to Large Format. (As an interesting side note, The Swedish word for Full Format is "Small Picture" since Full Format 35mm has such a huge crop factor compared to standard (large) format and Medium. Large, Medium and Small (FF). )

  2. I'm no video expert, but I was amazed just how natural the colours out of the NX1 using the following settings that I think I read Andrew was using somewhere along the line ... Gamma DR, Contrast -5, Master Black Level +10 & luminance at 16-235. At 4k everything seems a bit too sharp though and now prefer it left at zero. But for colours looking natural, and usability SOOC, this camera is pretty amazing I think. https://vimeo.com/126548066

  3. In what other way than shallow DoF? I find the RAW and DR from the BM cameras opens up way more creative possibilities than simply using a larger format.

  4. Just did the update, too. 50Mbit like the A7s! Very nice. Will do a A6000 vs A7s comparison later this week.

  5. Samsung have set the bar high with the NX1 firmware updates. Makes everyone else look lazy and more than a little stupid.

  6. In this last year I shot a bunch of rather meaningless clips and pictures while out for a walk or when biking to familiarize myself with a rather modern camera (Sony Nex-5R). Last time I used a video camera was 20 years ago. Me and my friends enjoyed shooting short movies alot at that time and we plan to come back to it before we are too old for this shit. Anyway, I am able to use a rather nice set-up reminiscent of a mini western saloon (from the outside at least). We are huge fans of Terence Hill/ Bud Spencer movies and its only natural we want to make a short based on those. Script is kind of finished, it will be an assassination attempt like the very first part of "my name is nobody". Dont get mad about the the gun thing, there wont be any. This assassination attempt will have a strong comical twist. Also me and my buddies were rather skilled in martial arts when we were young, so any action involved will be some kicks and punches (hopefully still good looking) Just watched "my name is nobody" recently to get a feeling for it and man those old movies are really nicely framed and shot. I would like to use this movie as base model. But those nice dusty browns and yellows with tons of color seperation within them will probably be very hard to match. Same for those reddish glowing skin tones. So my question is: What else is important to consider when shooting a western like this? Any kind of advise is highly appreciated. Never done that before;) -Camera will probably be my trusty moire and aliasing happy Nex-5R (Kit-lens and 35mm T1.4 lens, maybe some FD primes and zoom lenses) -Grading in Resolve Ah, and this is just for fun, neither me or my friends work in any way professional in this field. But still I want it to be as good as possible. Here some screen grabs from the set-up trailer I shot to get my buddies hyped...and one from "my name is nobody" as a reference.

  7. I'm sure this crew said they wanted IMAX and couldn't afford it. Had to settle on Super 16mm. Amateurs.

  8. I've learnt quite a bit just from this thread. Thanks for the tip. That seems pretty decent value. Definately one to consider. Thanks for the detailed reply. Wow, even with my limited knowledge, that Sigma seems an impossibility? Just watched an amazing review of it. Would love to splash the cash on something like that which would no doubt mean I wouldn't buy another lens for a little while (im already trying to convince myself). Buying the cheap kit lens to get the video done is also a very good option. I probably shoudlnt have gone for Body only, and got that to begin with. I now have a huge amount of food for thought and so really appreciate everyones input. This forum is amazing! Cheers Nick

    Lenses

Found a couple of really cheap Bolex H16 cameras with lenses in the turrents. Bought one to use the lenses with the Digital Bolex and BMPCC but will also shoot some 16mm film with it. Did a quick test when I got it home today.

  10. Can't speak for the A6000, but I have the A5100 (because of XAVC and the touchscreen) - I shot a dance performance indoors and it was my static wide shot with the 10-18 lens on a gorillapod. I did three consecutive takes of 25, 28 and 28 minutes and there were no overheating issues. This is so much better than my old 5n or Nex7 which would overheat in less than 10 minutes on the first take and usually about 3-4 minutes with each subsequent take. I live in Florida and frequently shoot outdoors in really hot weather, the A5100 has been great for me. Can't wait for its 4k replacement.

  11. You are blind or you did not read my link ? It is still compressed but they work and will release via firmware uncompressed RAW on A7RII. BTW for the last interview Andrew just posted, they say A7RII does 240fps at 1080p but it is most likely a typo. A7SII will do 240fps at 1080p.

  12. Hahaha. A lot of people want to go the G7 way from the LX100. Especially considering one can get the 14-42 lens along with a mic at around the same price (Adorama).

  13. It's incredible that someone on Samsung financed and approved that shortfilm!!!

  14. Cheers, they look pretty good! However, I'm now leaning towards G7, it seems way better!

  15. I think A6000 owners have Panasonic and the G7 to thank for this firmware update.

  16. Please indulge us and make your "over and out" permanent! If you are so bored, start your own blog and see how that works for you...Easy to be a critic Jimmy, harder to produce. I for one am tired of your snot nosed, know it all or been there attitude. Oh, and don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out.

  17. Guys, it's absurd to say Canon is doomed because they're not putting out cutting edge DSLR/Mirrorless cameras for video. They're crushing in the stills arena. Their Cx00 lines are a hit. Canon glass is extremely popular. It's a bummer they're not catering to the small camera video crowd but they're not going anywhere.

  18. If you could get your hands on each camera, for a day or so, it would really help you get a perspective on things. I am actually quite surprised, that not enough well graded videos of the LX100 have made it online. Check these 3: These should, hopefully, help you appreciate the video quality.

  19. I completely agree with you, and althought the raw quality is there, it seems that Samsung is trying to market this as a "intro-level" camera, and not the actual pro-level it is. Some people think this is a fancier compact camera, They should have made some contest with the NX1 community, and then select 4 shortfilms, im sure the quality would have been much high er and much more enjoyable.
