  1. I guess creatively, the weird "stars-in-a-day-scene" look does help the alien planet SF story line, but in my (cynical) opinion the real motivation for shooting in moonlight was for marketing/buzz reasons. I mean, isn't that why we're even talking about this short? And people discussing low light and A7s will likely cite this as an example, at least in the near future. Clever. Looked a bit too fuzzy though, probably from heavy noise reduction. Acting seemed better than what we see in shorts.

  3. It looks atrocious, but the actual film isn't half bad. They'd have been better off going more for a proper night look, than night to day or half-night or whatever they currently have.

  4. Hello everyone! I'm a french film school student (however we don't practice often it's just mainly theoretical courses and film analysis) and we had recently to create a short fiction (we were to do around 7 shots). We had the plan with my teammate to explore an old abandoned coal washing facility and decided to make something with it, so here it is! Sound is important so play it loud Now some explanation. I don't have a lot of money, and our school doesn't have any gear to loan, so we made it a 0$ budget short ahah (well the only thing we paid for was the gas mask). For the prep we had only a few days, so we thought of a story, and we only did the storyboard for the first half of the short (until he enters the factory), as we didn't know what it looked like inside, and we had to improvise on set. It was really run'n'gunning as we only had 9h on location, and some shots are quite rushed... I shot it with a sony a6000 in AVCHD, with for the most part in exterior the sony 18-105G F4, then in interior the Sony 35mm F1.8 OSS and a Leica Summicron 90mm F2 (pre-asph, which I found in my dad's old camera gear). For the lighting setup we used an outdoor LED floodlight (which is what the actor is holding inside the factory) and a 200*160 5in1 reflector to bounce some light back. I edited everything and made the soundtrack on Sony Vegas, then graded everything on DaVinci Resolve Lite. I'm kinda in a love-hate relationship with it haha, during the edit and post-prod there was some moment I just wanted to delete everything, and I was noticing every little mistake or imperfections, but considering the time limitation, budget the result is fairly ok, and initial feedback was good so I wanted to share it more with people working in this field! I'd love any advice or feedback from you!

  6. I honestly love Transcend cards: cheap, fast and reliable! I have the 64GB UHS-1 Ultimate card and it writes at 30MB/s and it reads at 96MB/s even it's rated at 45 max! I believe when you buy Sandisk cards you're paying for the brand since they could be as fast or faster at times but it's a writing speed you don't even need!

  7. Very Nice Pack, I like what I see. Haven't got the time to get deeper in all of them, but I have used a few I personal liked very much in a small piece of a music bands video clip. The band, named Downriver Dead men Go, number The River, played a few weeks ago, outside, for a very good charity (heart for Lungs). I tried three Luts in this piece of clip. Samsung NX1 handheld, no external microphone, 16-50mm S lens. It was just a test. Final Cut Pro X. Thanks for the update I received today. Downriver Dead Men Go - The River.m4v

  9. Jordan did an amazing job with the VLog in the latest TCSTV episode. Colors, DR, and skin tones all look great--and it's just the internal 8-bit! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ye9TrMw_nHI

  10. And it only took a year and a half! Great little short, though. I love sci-fi that leaves most of the actual tech to the imagination. Excellent work by the filmmakers and a really evocative, otherworldly look.

  11. I think you mean the Global Shipping Program and their ridiculous over charging. In reality it just means the seller doesn't want to sell outside of the US. It's like a polite way of saying, "sure, I'll sell to you, but I'm gonna make sure it hurts.". Just refuse to buy anything that uses the global shipping policy. I have.

  12. I've seen it produce visible banding in a lot of photos, particularly when recovering shadows, which is half the point of shooting Sony's sensors in the first place. Also, Nikon offers a more compressed RAW format, but it also has a lossless 14-bit option if you want the best out of your camera. Sony does not.
