  1. I know it's not too much new information, but you can see my thoughts on V-Log in this video starting at 13:45.

  2. Thank you... so nice to read compliments. And I agree on the topic in general, this forum has come on leaps and bounds in the last 2 years. Thanks to everyone who keeps it interesting.

  3. Imo Global Shutter is the key. Then you can move the camera freely and it all looks good instead of weird. No need for IS or IBIS. I will never buy an A-cam without it again. Took me one day with the bmpc to make that decision

  4. Some testgrading of your screenshot @Jordan Drake Used my old 2013 BMCC Teal/Orange LUT for this.

  5. Thanks so much but I'm not - just trying to learn things as I go along. It's a confusing bumpy road and it's an interesting world of taste and preferences, of influence from other forms of better films and life.

Got the Samyang/Rokinon/Walimex/Whatnot 100 2.8 Macro, really sweet lens. Tried a bit of video too with the spider, but it's really hard to keep focus in macro range. Thinking about getting the VDSLR version instead which has more focus throw. However, the lens breathes heavily and might not be for every situation. Stills shot with Nikon D800, might put something together in terms of the NX1 spider video later on.

  7. Thanks again man. I'm really loving the pack. I tried the 9270 out of some Blackmagic LOG footage and it looks great. I had been using Captain Hooks LUT as a starting point but not anymore : )

  8. So I keep trying your free LUT, heres what I got with a Canon T3i (600D). Ignore the heavy compression, but I absolutely love the colors, and you def. sold me on the pack, will be getting it soon Congrats ! Btw, this is the first time I actually try luts and enjoy them.

Got this tiny but solid Pentax C-mount today. Think it might be a bit of an underrated gem. Mainly for its close infinity.

  10. The Arri Alexa log-c is extremely flat - Alister hits it well. It's a log curve that bends as it gets to hightlight handling. The curve feature was first created with Panavision and Sony with the Panavision Genesis. I think. It allows a camera to put more paint into the bucket and expand it later in post. It's basically like a super smooth knee function. Excited for the GH4 v log function - that's great news!

  11. Alister Chapman has a lot of information on the way Slog works here: http://www.xdcam-user.com/2014/12/ultimate-guide-for-cine-ei-on-the-sony-pxw-fs7/ He also talks a bit about Slog2 and the importance of using LUT's before grading, here:

  12. With the pro-activity shown by samsung, I think it's rather odd they are not getting a similar profile ready for nx1, in a fw upgrade!

  13. *THIS*, it is the direction I am going in. I'm going to pick up Sony F3 for a similar price to an old Canon 5Dmk2 (once you've kitted that out with a basic cheap audio recorder and monitor, to at least pretend to match the same basic functionality of a F3!). How could a person say no?? I was planning to (somehow???) get an URSA Mini 4.6K at a stretch, but now my plan will be: 1) once I magically win lotto / get rich, then I'll get an URSA Mini 4.6K 2) once the first price drop happens to the URSA Mini I'll get one (like what happened with the BMPCC, BMCC, and BMPC4K to a greater or lesser extent). 3) once URSA Minis start showing up on the second hand market at a decent discount So in other words, I'll let my F3 last me some 12 to 24 months, and then I'll jump on an URSA Mini 4.6K :-)

  16. The replacement for the NX1 will no doubt be out in the near future. I'm thinking Sammy is on a roll right now, so who knows what they will have to offer. Between Samsung, Sony and Panasonic, good options are within sight.

  17. Well said guys. I've been on dvxuser since 2008 - just got banned yesterday after bringing up a mention that reduser's "who's viewing" count is off by a signifigant amount. They love to ban. This site doesn't really ban which is a good thing - yes more freedom to go wild. Which is good! Good for me because I go wild. But yes a lot of info on dvxuser that I like. Reduser though, is more like a cult - where you can't really call out the red cameras. DVinfo is good, but not really many people on it anymore. Really most stuff is going the way of EOSHD - that's why we need smart and creative people on here to post and say stuff and have fun.

  18. Indeed! I really like the atmosphere here, and many of the users like Ed and Mattias have taught me a lot. Sometimes I wish the forums were better organized--Panasonic and Blackmagic have subforums almost no one uses, and nothing for Sony or Samsung--but that also keeps the "trending topics" up front and fresh for anyone who visits. Thank you to everyone who makes this forum a wonderful place. Who answers ignorance with friendly information. Who responds to attacks by showing their results and staying out of the dogfights. Who go out of their way to help induct people into what can be an incredibly intimidating field. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all for being here.

  19. Sony Pmw-F3L has a nicer image compared to A7s having used both camera, advantage of A7s though is of course low light, external resolution and full frame, but imo I think the Sony F3 is one of the best cameras that definitely flew under the radar.

  20. i am sorry but this s35 4k combination is weird at 800+650 $ why not choose a 1300$ nx1+24$ canon adapter it is cheaper and has better video quality, and for low light the extra stop of light you get from the speedbooster,it is equivalent to the bsi technology also giving a stop advantage for low light compared to non bsi sensors. (and for an extra 24$ you can also adapt nikon lenses )
