  1. I'd suggest it is a bit of a stretch to compare the XC10's footage to other Cinema EOS cameras that shoot 4K like the 1D C I champion and the now available C300 Mk II... Just because it has a Cinema EOS badge on it doesn't mean it is going to match up in post to the 1D C. And certainly doesn't mean it will have a better image than the RX10 II... Well, we will find out... today. Just bought a RX10 II.

  2. Hi there, this is my first post on EOSHD but I've been a long time lurker. I bought the NX1 as my main go to camera and so far I've loved it. I've recently began pre-production on a film I plan on shooting later this year and I'm by no means a pro of any kind but I have some thoughts I'd like to share, mainly regarding the picture profile options that have come with a recent firmware update. The only profile I've used so far has been Gamma DR. First off saturation, I find that if the saturation is lower than -4 the information just isn't there for color grading sake. Balancing out the tone of the image tends to be much harder when really lowering saturation, for me it seems to cause problems from highlights to shadows and this is only after I shot the test that I realized this. I don't think this camera is the end all of LOG in any way and its just there simply as an option for your own simple profile but I have my doubts about the extreme options available, that being said I am very grateful it even is an option. Sharpness I feel is variable but I wouldn't go any higher than -7 for 4k but 1080p seems to be something completely different. I do not think that the profiles transfer effectively from 4k to 1080p, I do think that there must be a separate set of of picture options between all resolutions, I wonder if this has just been me that's been struggling with this but it seems that keeping a -10 sharpness for 1080p just looks like garbage. Anyways I hope to become more active since this is one of my favorite websites, thank you.

  3. I admit, I'm infected with GAS (gear acquisition syndrome). It's time to let go of some of my gear... So I'm selling my SLR Anamorphot 1,33x. Bought it last year like new, I haven't used it since, it's been sitting on the shelve basically. It's the complete kit with 0.3 and 1.3 diopters included, in it's original box, in perfect condition. Current price - new - is €1189 after rebate. Asking price: €900 Send me a message if you're interested. I'm based in The Netherlands, prefer to sell in Europe. Payment by bank transfer or PayPal. (image from SLR website, I can show you the actual set if interested) Since I haven't used it - except for taking a picture of my cat when I received the set... - I can't share any of my own works. Here is some work made with the SLR Anamorphot by others on the forum:

  4. Colors look great, lighting looks great, the food looks great. My only suggestion would be for you to get a slider and use a couple slider shots to add some visual interest.

  6. The only question that needs to be asked is why buy an XC10 for $2500 when you can get an RX10 M2 for half that? Superior in more ways than just being more affordable: Raw stills and much higher resolution S-LOG 2 matches A7S in B-cam role 240fps at nearly 1080p and up to 1000fps in PAL for even more dramatic slow-mo Built in EVF (XC10 has none) Less reliant on touch screen for ergonomics Less ergonomic design flaws (better menus, more direct physical control) 5x cheaper media and 3x more space efficient 4K codec Likely very similar 4K codec quality and dynamic range Constant F2.8 aperture and very similar zoom range 24mm at wide end (XC10 crops in 4K mode from 24mm to 28mm) Considerably brighter long end at F2.8 vs F5.6 Everyone I know who has used the XC10 so far say it is a nightmare to use because of quirks.

  8. Fredrik, your video looks great and it's clear. If your video is just a recipe, only thing it lacks is the text for what ingredients/measures are. I love simple things and in a recipe, the simpler the better. Some movements can add some fun, but are not necessary, not in a 50 seconds video recipe. Then you can think you want to go a step further, so you need some environments, some props, maybe a sexy voice over, some sound effects, etc. the sky is the limit! ;-D

  9. I asked for feedback and I'm not gonna cry if you don't like it. It's better that people are being honest than just pointing out the positives. Thanks everyone for the input! Sekhar and j.f.r: I've actually been testing shooting with camera movement lately and agree with everything else you said. Gotta keep learning! Cinegain: I like to look at what really talented people do and learn from them. This video is obviously beyond reach for me but it's definitely inspiring and I think you make a valid point. I'm considering upgrading to a GH4 or a G7. Besides from the cropping, panning and zooming (4k to 1080p), is there any other major advantages like shooting flat profiles for example for this kind of work? Btw, this is just footage for my food blog and not professional or commercial.

  11. Nah, it should just be regulated properly. But not in a sense that it would be exclusive to companies that have invested tens of thousands to become a legit aerial business, keep logs, have a company specific operator's manual, and so on. Here's my take on it. I mean. Take roads. Is it exclusive to logistic companies and their trucks? Or public transport with bus drivers? Nope. There's your average Joe commuting to work with his own private car too. And Janine who goes out for some grocery shopping. Mark doesn't like cars, he does like nice weather and motorbikes, it happens to be nice weather and so he takes his Harley out for a spin. Regular folks in control of vehicles that are quite possibly killing machines! But you know what? You can't just (atleast legally) decide from one day to the next 'you know what, I think I am capable of driving a car, how hard can it be?', then buy a piece of junk car for next to nothing and with zero skills and knowledge then wreck it, not only possibly hurting yourself, but others and also properties. That's what is the problem now. People think it's a toy and good fun. They're not capable, they're not being responsible. But we need them to be! So... people are going to have to prove themselves proficient. You're going to have to earn it. So I'm for a system where you could go and get your drone license, much like a driver's license. You need to take a test to prove you got the theory down, you have to know the rules. You have to get some hours of practice under supervision and pass a practical examination. You do all that and you might end up getting a drone license! Yay! Now. Having a license is one thing. Being allowed to put it to use is a second. Since you've studied the rules, you know you can't just fly anywhere. So this is where stuff needs to get regulated and a punitive system has to be put in place much like participating in road traffic... mild fines for speeding, going through red, that kinda thing. Then there's getting your license revoked, or even your vehicle impounded if you pull off some really stupid and irresponsible shit. Yeah, depending on severity even jailtime! Don't want that? Follow the friggin' rules. Avoid temporary no-drone zones, stay out of restricted areas, regard safety, privacy and all that. Then you need to inform local authorities on short (but not that short) notice about your activities and how they can get in contact with you. Just like a car, you need to be insured. All that stuff! Hey, like that, it's still for everybody... but not for everybody. Anyways. That's my take on things.

  13. Agreed. And a bit more dynamic shots in there couldn't hurt either. Recently on another forum we discussed some food videos we liked. Maybe it's good inspiration for you: Make a cocktail with Absolut Vodka! Notice the sound effects! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmUQ2vJjiGtR4FLhpUqjUyQ/videos Very visual ad for friggin' sandwich spread pulled off in a great way! Great shots. Love the snappy edit.

  14. Yes, sharper than 1080p, but we're talking 4K here: it's supposed to be 4x the resolution, you need to raise your bar a bit. 4K out of say NX1 puts this to shame. Going by the footage jpfilmz posted, it almost looks like there's a diffusion filter (it has the soft, misty look even if more detailed than 1080p)...unless the jpfilmz crew actually slapped on a filter of some sort. Or it's just the usual Canon soft look.

    Lenses

@EOSHD Maybe instead of a thread, a real forum section. I'd like to discuss specifics - Micro 4/3rds lenses, vintage lenses, full frame lenses, etc. I'm just worried that specific topics would be lost in a single discussion thread.
