Well, I guess that's what you get if you get your hopes up too high. The A7RII and A7SII with the RX10M2 will probably take over. But what the A7-series concerned... I come from a M43 background. I like the M43 lenses that are availlable, I like the adaptability, the compactness, the affordability. With the A7-series the body is not too bad, but you need to cover up that fullframe with some serious glass. Also, the step-in price is way up there. All in all, it's awesome, but you're going to be willing the drop the cash on the body and lenses and be okay with the size and weight of it all. I just wish there were more M43 cameras to get it right, but for the time it seems the GH4 is still the closest we can get.2 points

Pack of original LUTs made by myself
Trek of Joy reacted to benymypony for a topic
Dear EOSHD community, I am an independent french graphic designer and I regularly work in photo and video. Over the years, I created a collection of 3D LUT files to ease the color grading of my projects. Recently I created a pack with my 38 original LUTs. They are profiled on high-resolution color matrix and were built to preserve skin tones as best as possible. I had the chance to work with many different cameras and I spent a lot of time creating these looks and testing on raw footages, from 5DMKII and 7D with Magic Lantern, GH4, A7S, BMPC 4K, and stills from RED EPIC. About HDSLR, these LUTs are calibrated on CineStyle/Cinelike profiles. Also in my pack is included a LUT to properly « flat » a footage and get a good working basis before grading. Website for more infos : http://luts.iwltbap.com Instagram with short video samples : https://instagram.com/luts At the end of this post you will find some sample images before-after. My LUTs pack is for sale $20, but I created a discount code of -25% for EOSHD community. So you can get it for $15 instead of $20 via : https://sellfy.com/p/Ainy/-EOSHD My pack is regularly updated with new LUTs and all updates are free. On my website you can download a free LUT with the famous teal-orange look. Also, I offer for free a 4K film grain based on 35mm film scans (10sec video encoded in Apple ProRes 422 at 25fps). Hope you will like my LUTs. Best, Benjamin1 point -
Selling a Bolex Moller 8/19/1.5x anamorphot in great, clean condition and as well as a Redstan clamp for $1,200. Selling it because I just don't use it often enough (bought it about 8 months ago and honestly used it once). I need the money to produce a short film, so I'm parting with it as a result. It took me about 3 months to track this down when I purchased it and I bought it for $200 more than I am selling it for. The Redstan clamp is 52mm. If you need any info about me feel free to ask. Paypal only please! -Matt1 point

Hello there ! We had the opportunity and luck to be part of the "Dominica Film Challenge" this year, here is the result of our week in this tiny and lovely island from the Carribeans ! Hope you'll like it. We mainly shot with a Red epic, but there is also some 5d III raw footage as we had troubles with our luggage (4 days to arrive..). There are also a few drone shots made with a phantom 2 and a gopro 4.1 point -

Hey Jonesy, I'm a Linux user primarily. Since the death of IRIX, most post production and vfx software that used to run on SG workstations has long since been ported over. commercial post software includes: Maya, Houdini, Flame, Lustre, Nuke, Shake, PF* apps, MochaPro, Mari, Mudbox, Arnold, Renderman, Lightworks useful free software: Gimp, inkscape, ffmpeg, mplayer, mencoder, dvdauthor (for screeners), VLC, OpenColorIO, and tons of vfx utility apps, see a list here: http://opensource.mikrosimage.eu/index.html free communication and f-off related: LibreOffice, Steam, Pidgin, Thunderbird, Chrome, Banshee, Rhythmbox, Spotify, Renoise, Bacula (for project/footage backups) and of course more programming tools than you could list, I prefer to use GNU/Linux emacs. Still need a dual boot option though for certain things like taxes, incoming photoshop files, certain games, commercial audio like Ableton and Max.. listening to my old DRM files (thanks Apple).1 point

I guess Panasonic still has a huge price advantage, whereas Sony has a huge technology advantage. But the price difference is rather substantial and sony is trying hard go crash Panasonic Prosumer Market (G7 and LX100 in particular). i guess as long as they keep pushing each other to make better cameras it can only be good news for consumers. But I feel both the LX100 and the RX100 IV could have done with mic ins, even if they didn't have headphone monitoring. Also, I must say againn THE LX100 NEEDS LOG ALONG WITH GH4, EVEN IF THEY CHARGE PEOPLE FOR IT.1 point

Price is one thing. But I think some people are attracted to the idea of not being chained by the corporate monopolies of Apple or Microsoft. The idea of never ending rent for adobe products grinds with me as well. But as you say, It seems as if we don't have all the same options available with linux, which is why most of us stick with Windows or Os X. Though I am very interested to hear about any potential alternatives.1 point

Did a quick test with my $12 Zeiss. Haven't used it but might need it this weekend for a little project so I took it for a quick walk. And yes, this is text book boring leaves, flowers and pet footage.1 point -

It sure was the most appealing option 1,5 years ago when the GH4 was launched. True. The GX8 is a bit of a let down for us. Panasonic is really protecting the GH4. The GX8 is clearly aimed at still photographers. But still it beats the crap out of Canon/Nikon/Sony camera's in the same price range when it comes to video...1 point

This looks awesome. I'm going to be doing some extended traveling next year - and right now I'm thinking Macbook Air to edit in the evenings or early morning, but I'll need some additional storage. This fits the bill nicely.1 point

Yeah, and the GH5 will cost well over 2 grand. That's the problem with the constant upgrading of new models. They continue to sell the older model at its original price point and then they bump up the price of the new model into a different price/level tier.1 point

Currently, it looks like only electronic stabilization is available during 1080 video. Not much more useful than adding it in post, with the downside of having stabilizer artifacts baked into your footage.1 point -

Almost ready to go for the A7R II -- some questions
mercer reacted to manueldomes for a topic
Been doing A LOT of research today and have come to similar conclusions since my bold statement MattH... For what I would be putting down on the A7R II body I could get a GH2, a speedbooster XL, one of those nifty pistol grip gimbals for stabilization when needed (likely to do a better job than the A7R II IBIS) and a Blackmagic Micro with global shutter for color sensitive stuff and to get rid of rolling shutter when needed. Oh, technology...1 point -
"4K video is a huge part of the FZ300 experience. You can record 4K/UHD (3840 x 2160) video at 30p or 24p with full-time AF, manual controls, zebra stripes, 'cinelike' gamma, and much more - all at a bit rate of 100Mbps. If that's a bit too much, 1080/60p and lower resolution modes are also available. If you want to produce slow motion clips, there's a mode which records at 120 fps (1280 x 720). As mentioned earlier, the FZ300 combines optical and digital image stabilization to produce a 5-axis hybrid IS system, though as we've already noted that only kicks in when shooting HD (and lower resolution) video." If you look past its fixed lens and tiny sensor (similar to a camcorder), then this appears to be a kick ass camera and at very low price! I won't buy it now, but when it comes on sale at half price in a year or two? Hell yeah. (its RRP at release is already under six hundred dollars) 4K video, weather sealing, 25-600mm zoom, constant f/2.8, 'cinelike' gama, 100Mbps, zebras, manual controls, 120fps @ HD, 5 axis stabilisation, mic jack input, and more!! This could be a wonderful run and gun camera for a reporter, or as a back up camera to keep in the car. (need to grab a quick shot but it started dumping with rain? No problem with the FZ300! Got to get a very far away shot that you didn't bring a quite long enough lens for? No problem with the FZ300! Want a wide angle B cam to shoot 4K in an interview so you can punch in later? No problem with the FZ300! etc etc.... This won't ever be a camera which is perfect at any one specific thing, but will serve as a wonderful jack-of-all-trades to keep around in your tool kit "just in case") http://***URL removed***/articles/1065643550/fast-zoom-what-you-need-to-know-about-panasonic-lumix-dmc-fz300?slide=81 point

@Cinegain Lets hope there will be a Sony A7000, affordable APS-C camera. I'm pretty sure it will get 4K and S-Log. If it gets IBIS too, it will be a GX8 killer...1 point

My 2 cents: just beware of operating noise. It's a bit loud, even with stabilization turned off! It does perform ok. Nothing game changing though. Highlight clipping gets a 'mweh'. Other than that, it's pretty much a mini-GH4 with the all-in-one optics range (where it performs rather well, resolving details and sharpness is excellent). Bit unfortunate that it doesn't run f/2.8 throughout, like the FZ200 or RX10 and drops off to that f/4 quite quickly. Lowlight not too great either. Oh. And SD-slot co-located at the battery compartment. Argh. It's an ideal travelcam (great as a hybrid!). It probably works if you work at a company and they need some in-house videos shot (for training purposes or something). For other stuff. B-cam only. I know there's quite the price difference, but the RX10M2 seems to be worth the up in price. Panasonic's G7 would make sense as well.1 point

How to store all that 4K footage out in the field?
Jonesy Jones reacted to abds69 for a topic
5TO for 190€ http://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00185401.html You have to duplicate it to call it archive. 10TO is in sight, just wait a little for the price. http://www.hgst.com/hard-drives/enterprise-hard-drives/enterprise-sata-drives/ultrastar-archive-ha10 JBOD is cheap solution for clustering disks. Duplication is necessary for backup.1 point -

Just what I was hoping for! A E-M5II-like camera (yay! built-in stabilization, yay! tilty flippy screen!) but with Panasonic video! So much vintage glass, couple of cine primes... would definitly benefit from that! Doesn't have to be the same as Olympus's IBIS, too much chance of weird shifts and warping imho anyways. As long as it works well handheld. I can always get something like the CAME-TV Single pistol grip gimbal stabilizer for actual dynamic moving shots. Wait. The answered to that ánd it has a new sensor?! So, even more perfect for hybrid shooting. And I was happy enough if it didn't do stabilized 4K, just proper 1080p, but it does?!! We'll have to see how it is in lowlight... photosites are even smaller now... hope new sensor tech and Venus engine can work some magic. Of course, they don't want you to forget about the GH and G lines. So chances are, no V-LOG or perhaps even CineLike styles. Audio interface?? But hey, exciting. I guess tomorrow is the 'keynote', so we'll know soon. But I guess this means bye bye E-M1, hello GX8.1 point -

Worked with red epic since 2012 a lot of times. But it didn't look like cheap canon DSLR footage... The C300 mk2 footage looks great to me though. But XC10 simply isn't worth its price and easily outperformed by much cheaper cameras!1 point -

3-axis camera stabilizing systems – Overview
Fredrik Lyhne reacted to jurgen for a topic
To me, these handheld gimbal stabilizers are bigger game-changers than the 4K/upped color space push. I'm just an enthusiast, so maybe the "gadgetry" aspect is what's appealing to me, but the effect that smooth motion has on footage is pretty profound. Exciting to see and know that you can have both (4K + a gimbal) for around $4,000!1 point
