Quick play with the A7ii IBIS
Amro Othman and one other reacted to Mattias Burling for a topic
Brought my new A7ii over the weekend and played around a bit with the stabilization. I those of you going for the A7sii or A7rii will be very pleased with it. Combined with a rig or support it would be rock solid. And this is just 3 Axis since I used old vintage glass.2 points -
Sony A7S M2 - what features and specs are likely
Julian and one other reacted to Mattias Burling for a topic
Like I said, I don't think it will be that groundbreaking. Pretty much an A7rii with better lowlight. But if I can dream a little. The a7s conveniently got 4k roughly about the same time as the Shogun. The Shogun is finally implementing it's long awaited raw features. First the raw to prores and then the DNG recording. When they first said it and at a show last spring where a bit floaty answering what cameras would take advantage of it my thought was, "this is not primarily for Blackmagic". One can atleast dream.2 points -
100fps to 1000fps - a detailed look at slow motion on the Sony RX100 IV / RX10 II
Celli reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
The slow-mo capabilities of the new Sony RX cameras are groundbreaking. I've been shooting at 100fps to 1000fps and everything in between. Here is everything you need to know. Read the full article1 point -
If you have access to an RX100 iv please could you confirm what the maximum record times are for 50/60p and 100/120p? (Or at least confirm if they go over 5 minutes). If they are doing a full pixel readout I would expect the limit to be 5 minutes like the 4k due to heat. No-one has yet discovered this information.1 point

Quick play with the A7ii IBIS
Julian reacted to Mattias Burling for a topic
So far I like it alot. It's a nice bring along when the Bolex stays at home. It requires roundrtripp for resolve but the workflow is quite fast anyway. The detail is probably a little bit the camera but also youtube, the vintage glass and that I didn't ad any sharpening. It was just a quick over all grade with one of my presets and I'm not used to adding sharpening. Will experiment as I learn s-log. That's one of the reasons I got it, want to get some hands on with s-log. Will hopefully have some "real" grades soon.1 point -
My OnePlus One (€299) does 4096x2160 @ 24 fps. Not my footage, but it can look pretty good:1 point

ND Filter buying advice
Sekhar reacted to AaronChicago for a topic
Look into a variable ND. It's adds a slight polarizing effect, but it's super convenient. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=857429&gclid=CLqYvJD46cYCFRCCaQodQF8Nqg&Q=&m=Y&is=REG&A=details Use a stepping ring to work with 72mm thread: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/98938-REG/General_Brand_77_72_77mm_72mm_Step_Down_Ring_Lens.html1 point -
Sorry, the antecedent for "this" was pretty unclear. Mercer has my intention correct.1 point

I think Vaga was unsure about the G7, and wanted to do a comparison between the 3.1 point

I use the RX10 mkI exclusively to film the very popular tech channel JoanneTechLover, and while I do like the original a lot, one of my complaints with it (and just about every native Sony mirrorless lenses for my Sony a7S) is that the focusing ring speed is variable, meaning that if you rotate quickly for 1/4 of a turn, it won't land in the same focus as if you rotate that same 1/4 turn slowly. That means that you can't rack focus consistently because the speed of your focus pull will change where your focusing will land. Is that still a problem with the RX10 mkII?1 point

Yeah it does (JPEG/RAW DNG). I happen to know that '1600万' means 16MP. - (ah, the site is changeable to English as well though) The footage on the Kickstarter page looks shockingly bad for trying to sell us on this product that's all about video... But the downloadable promo vid which I linked to actually looked fairly promising. There were just some points when it was painful to see some weird compression side effects, especially in the scene with the boats there's a weird static overlay that doesn't refresh. Don't think it's my computer, but I also do not think it's the camera, I think it's the export. Anyways. It's exciting to see something new. It's cool like a GoPro, for having something small to shoot with, secondary angles, especially for action/aerial kind of stuff. But then has the up in sensor and you can pick the lenses according your needs! Would be cool to see an actionproof housing for the Pana 20mm and 14mm though (for mounting on cars, skateboards, or have it on you when skiing or take it with you on a dive). You might as well compare it to the new Blackmagic Micro Cameras: the Cinema and Studio 4K. But you know, they aren't really the action cams... they lack built-in wireless connectivity as well as a screen, which you would have to add additionally. That wouldn't only make it bulky... but also a more expensive choice. I do think there's a place for something like this. I hope they can pull it off.1 point

Panasonic GH3 vs G6 vs G7 for Video
David Brunckhorst reacted to mercer for a topic
- Are you recording long takes? Because, I have the a5100 and have used it in the hot, summer sun and have never had an issue with it overheating. Although, I have heard that it is a problem. - You can go into the menu and set any of the external buttons to do any of the manual functions you want. For instance, I set the ? Button to work for zebras. I set the up button for white balance and the left button for creative styles, etc, etc... - Yes, I wish it had an external microphone jack. - And a viewfinder would be helpful, but since I use focus peaking, combined with magnification... a viewfinder isn't necessary. Anyway, if you want 4K, then go for the G7. If not, either of the other two should work well, just remember you have a larger crop factor with the Panasonic cameras, not a big deal if you plan on using modern m4/3rds lenses, but if you intend on using vintage glass, without some version of a speedbooster, then your wide angle 28mm lens, becomes a 56mm lens. Your 50mm normal lens becomes a 100mm telephoto lens, etc, etc... Good Luck with you choice.1 point -
