  1. Your CFast media price seems a little wonky. Cursory search reveals that the approved Lexard 3400x cards cost: 128GB = USD 341.99 256GB = USD 677.80 And I mean, those are B&H prices. Guaranteed you can find a better deal. That said, this stuff (media prices) changes by the second, so I respect your compiling effort. I await the published Raven specs. Hoping for some real awesome DR and possibly even HDRx capability.

  2. ursa mini weight is 5lbs, red weapon is 3.3lbs and it is said that the Raven will be lighter weapons bare body is much smaller than the ursa mini bare body, much more compact and better suited for movi type stabilizers. image quality wise I would be surprised if the new 4.6k ursa sensor performs better than the red dragon sensor but wait and see. but the price of a working red raven package will likely be at least twice that of a ursa mini 4.6k though.

  6. URSA Mini 4.6K can switch between rolling and global shutter(but lose some DR) so really it should have an advantage in that department.

  7. From what I have read at REDuser, the thinking is that these sensors are a quarter cut of the 8K sensor... If that is the case, then 4K will be the max. If true, it is a concern, as RED is quite soft (compared to BM with no OLFP)

  8. Sounds reasonable. That's similar terrain to the H1+ and CameTV Single. I like the option using it as 5-axis double handle or 3-axis single handle. The real issue for me with the Nebula 4000 was that people seemed to be really struggeling to get it tweaked just right. This is the most crucial part to get right and I feel like that's one of the reasons so many people are going with Pilotfly right now. They post combinations of cameras and lenses and it appears to be fairly easy to adjust. From another tech point the CameTV Single has the encoders which seem to do a great job. Seems the new Filmpower stabilizers are tool-free, which is a great plus. It's where others were heading as well. Good trend. Some added bluetooth control is nice too. Appears to have enough space to balance a camera and a somewhat bulkier lens, which I like. Feels like they've listened to what users of the Nebula 4000 and other pistol grip gimbal stabilizers said they were still missing/struggeling with. Including the up/down bounce. I was waiting for things to mature to a point that I'd believe it would be a must have tool in the bag. This might just be it. But like DBounce says... I need some more proof of concept than what I've seen so far. I'll probably wait till names like Dave Dugdale, Emm/MrCheesycam, Nitsan Simantov, Tom Antos, Jordan Drake, Erik Naso and/or others have giving it a proper review.

  9. Yeah, for me ergonomics are most important. XLR inputs, build in NDs, goof AF make working a breeze. Sony a7s II looks very flimsy and not comfortable

  12. c100mk2 is a great cam but you are going to be limited to 1080p. Have a look at the FS5 & Ursa mini cameras that will give you more flexibility on the productions that you can take. Very soon you will loose possible jobs if you cannot deliver 4K. In my opinion that's a waste of money. If you want a camera to do photos at that price range you should consider the GH4/NX1/A7rii that all do excellent video as well. Difference between the quality of the pictures is not as much as the internet tries to argue. That is waste of money as well. It might have been fine if you want to be portable and you are working with Final cut, but for everything else get a custom build desktop! You will be editing faster with no need for proxies when you move to 4K...

  14. I think I've already asked you about this before with no answer, but what the heck. Please link to the 4K 4:2:2 +200mbps shooting camcorder with good stabilization, good audio, non dslr form factor, built in NDs, etc that's even better but still cheaper, so I can buy it.

  16. My biggest issue is the quality of the 4K it outputs. The OLFP on the MX made the footage incredibly soft... even 5K downscaled, with alot of sharpening, was still found lacking. I have not used Dragon or the new OLFPs though, so maybe something has changed. Low light is also a concern. Generally though, seems like a very exciting camera.

  17. Hi, Thanks for getting back to me. Well, the RX10II cost as much as the AX1000 and it is as bulky as the GH4... What will make the RX10II superior to the AX1000 beside the S-Log? Better AF like Handycam experience?

  18. big news today: - form factor is weapon sized, smaller than scarlet dragon - lightest of all their cameras ever made - redcode at 5:1 compression - dragon sensor "a bit shy of Academy 35mm and APS-C. All your APS-C / S35 lenses should cover." - canon ef mount with electronic control - sub 10k price now is sub 10k for the body with ssd module included, I would assume so but we will find out friday.

  19. I recently spent some time researching the most compact and light gimbal stabilizers for my A7R2. The top choices seem to be (these are all pistol-grip stabilizers since everything that's not is a fair bit larger by necessity): CAME-TV Single Pilotfly H1+ Nebula 4000 I bought a Pilotfly H1+, just got it a couple days ago.. posted my first-day results here on the forum. Here are some video comparisons with footage for more info (mostly Pilotfly since that's what I decided to buy): Dave Dugdale's Pilotfly vs. CAME-TV Single review CheesyCam Pilotfly vs. Nebula vs. CAME-TV Single comparison Viktor Studios Pilotfly review (in spanish with English subs) GH4 user w/ Pilotfly - unboxing / setup / test footage

  20. Hunt For Red October is one of the most gorgeously shot anamorphic films ever. All the lights and lighting changes in those submarines are fantastically dramatic. Thanks to the anamorphic bokeh and flares, the submarines truly become characters in their own right.

My understanding is they are all share the same optics from the sizes told. The difference might be coatings.

  22. I have had a hard time for years with this as well. Some settings or trick (such as uploading fake 4K upscaled to get a better bitrate) can do a bit better. Many theories fight against each other (but if some have good settings still share it please). But nothing ever close to let's say GoPro official video, why? Answer is simple and was written in Google FAQ (not written in USA anymore): Pros have a specific account whith 50mbps bit rate for FHD, where you are stuck at around 8mbps. Don't look further.

  23. I was watching "Fear the walking dead" 1st Episode and I saw flares, I was thinking they used streak filters but never saw flares like that with this kind of filters. It get my attention, and then I saw oval bokeh, did they use Dog Shit oval aperture ?! Then I went to IMDB Technical specs : Arri Alexa XT Plus, Panavision G-, T-Series, PVintage and Hawk V-Lite Vintage '74 Lenses. From what I know of this is the first tv serie shot in anamorphic! And I loved it! Dispointed by 16:9 format though....

    The new Sony FS5

jax_rox it's not about anyone struggling to make Sony color science look as good as other companies ('par' at this point would be Canon, Nikon, BM, Red (latest color science), ARRI). It's about not wasting time, as well as still not getting a Sony to look as good as other cameras with far less effort. Over the years I've purchased more Sony video cameras than any other brand. I was reasonably happy with Sony cameras until I learned that other brands provide much better color with far less effort. I'd rather spend the extra money on a C300.2 than an FS7 as the final product will look better, namely skintones. $8K in a professional setting isn't really that much money. Why waste time with sub-par color science and buggy designs? The most popular professional cameras have the best color science. ARRI has the best color science and for the last few years is used on all Academy award winning films. Red has really upped their game lately (e.g. Narcos on Netflix). I call it like it is, no religious favoritism: Sony currently provides sub-par color science and their designs are currently buggy and harder to use vs. the competition. Sony keeps adding more features and complexity while ignoring the three most important elements for a camera: reliability, color science, and ease of use. Regarding other cameras looking bad: it's easy to make any camera look terrible, it's a different story making a camera look great. The better cameras get used more (Canon, Red, ARRI) as they provide a means to get better results with less effort. Red used to be unreliable and had marginal color science for skin tones (compared to the competition). While Red cameras are still way too complicated compared to ARRI, they have upped their color science to look really good, easily past everything from Sony except the F65. Regarding Ted2- I only watched the trailer and the skintones and overall color looked pretty good. Again, the F65 looks great compared to all the other current Sony cameras. Sony does have a 'look' and I understand your point regarding 'looks similar' to down line cameras. However, similar isn't enough for skintones- very minor changes provide a strong emotional reaction that something's wrong- the "Uncanny Valley" effect. I can get decent skintones out of the FS700 and A7S, it's just that other cameras get there faster, with less effort, and the final results tend to look better. If cost was not an object- what camera would you choose for skintones for an A camera?

  25. True Detective Season 2 did a 16x9 extraction. They shot with Panavision lenses. And a show called Miracles starring Skeet Ulrich shot anamorphic and extracted a 4x3 frame from it.

  28. Cool, I hope you find the information you're looking for! This got me thinking I should clarify everyone's expectations so there's no confusion later on: In the future I *may* start more lens threads and add Lens-yclopedia info on anamorphics I own or are otherwise interested in. I am *not* offering to sift through other people's threads and collate the lens information for them. What I *am* offering is to add any lens info to the database provided 1) that lens info is sent to me and 2) that lens info is labeled according to the fields in the template, so I know where to place it: Lens NameManufacturerAlso Known AsAnamorphic StretchWeightLengthFront Element SizeFilter Thread SizeRear Element SizeRear Thread SizeYears ProducedFocus MethodMin. CHICAGO - VLog L

Was at a family wedding this weekend. Applied the Alexa C LUT to see how it looks. Colors look nice although it leans toward a yellow tint. I added a little bit of magenta to balance it out.

  31. The AJA Cion looks like a bit of a pain really. It's not going to get any better with the BM Ursa Mini knocking on our doors soon. Big flop? As for this Red Raven... I'm hoping it will AT LEAST come with a bomb disposal kit, or some kind of force field that comes out the sensor and protects us from killer drones at 120fps!
