  1. For anyone that has Magic Bullet Looks, I've been using 4 way color corrector as the first treatment on V Log instead of a LUT, or S Curve. For some reason it works really well and keeps the midtones in tact. Here I crushed the blacks and blasted the highlights in 4 way CC, then added M31 Rec709 LUT.

  2. For me the last Zacuto Shootout showed that no more shootouts needs to be made. Its still 100% current and adding the c300ii, fs7, ursa mini etc would not ad anything valuable to the test. The result would still be, given a good DP and enough lights, they can all look good. Thats why I a while back tested and imo sort of proofed the opposite. If you take a couple of cinema cameras and a couple of cheap once but pay zero attention to lights and grading. It will again look pretty much the same.

  3. I suppose that 8th grade episode might also show the Edvolution some kids are made of ; ) I also anticipate if you all had the chance to personally meet, you'd find more similarities full of proficuous diversity than somewhat substantial differences between you at both sides. You, a lesson for a lot of readers if they could accurately read you... In any case, I also believe you fairly guess I appreciate the way you really are an authentic breeze inside a virtual container and never hostage of somehow politically correct at any rate. God be with you! PS: That thread is a classic today, Ed... I've just had a good laugh each new reading on the characters' dialogue present there. You truly created a legit narrative essay throughout a simple thread: it is now a masterpiece of the web. Emanuel :-) PPS: Ed's other (genuinely ;)) disruptive sin : P http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?133547-Reduser-Viewing-Count-has-Been-Off-Since-Beginning&p=1522588#post1522588

  4. Its nice and small. Very well built. The image is nice if just a bit brittle and the 100Mbps feels limiting. The screen is nice, EVF is ok, price is great. So far it feels like a solid c-cam/still cam. I hate that you often need to double tap record to get it to start (might be a setting, haven't had time to check). 4K Frame Here is my first dirty test, just used vintage glas. No real grading just quick fiddle with curves, LUTs and some presets.

  5. Same here! with the BMPCC as a compliment, I think the G7 will satisfy my need for 4K and stills. I can even buy a nice lens or an Olympus camera if I'm craving IBIS and still spend less than I would've on a used GH4. Here's what I posted in the V-LOG topic: According to a couple of long, rambling threads on DVX User, what I've gathered is that the GH4 has some sort of inherent problem with its processing that causes this magenta/green splotching/accuracy issue. Apparently, this problem is present in all the GH4's profiles to some degree, but the data pushing from encoding and grading from LOG hugely exacerbates it. My understanding is that these color errors occur at the processing level and before compression, so while 10-bit recording reduces compression and helps make the footage more pliable, it doesn't solve the underlying problem. I have to wonder if the G7 would experience this too. Its low-light processing seems to be much improved from the GH4's, and creates far less splotchy color artefacts. See the low light samples in this review: http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Panasonic_Lumix_G7/ Check out the comparison with the GH4 at 5:45: http://dslrvideoshooter.com/panasonic-gh4-vs-g7-video-review/ And Brandon's high ISO samples at the bottom of the page: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?337827-g7-vs-gh4/page4 I wonder if they could improve the GH4's performance by offering the new NR algorithm as a firmware update or something. Maybe it's part of the underlying hardware or LSI. I don't know. But it reminds me of the G6's massive noise advantage over the GH2, despite using the same sensor (and actually reading less of it in video mode). After this V-LOG update, I had my heart set on upgrading to the GH4, but if the G7 is this much better with noise and $400 in the bargain, it seems like a no brainer. Shame, because I already have the batteries and whatnot from my GH3. :/

  6. That's what I like about it. That retro look is the aesthetic that I think lower budget digital video does best, or most attainable.

  7. I agree, but both Brawley and Kholi have tested the SLR Magic and said that they find it better than the Tiffen that pretty much won Dougdales test. I bought my Genus based on his testing but if I was to redo it today I would go SLR Magic.

  8. thanks Ebrahim - well said. That is a place of frustration especially for filmmakers who exist to be critical of the current state of affairs. Filmmakers should not be sheep.

  9. Regardless of the numbers, Ninja 2 does make quite a difference for these kind of artefacts. Set it to DNxHD 220X and you can't go wrong! I don't know why the 10bit makes a difference but hey, at least it does! this was all done c100 ninja 2 in 220x: http://youtu.be/w0o6HRBGhsc

    Laptop predicament

Second hand Alienware PC laptop is a good option. you can put three (!) HDD/SSD in the m14 for example: one msata SSD then the main system drive and replace the optical with a cradle for another. so you can have an msata SSD for your caches, 1tb or 512SSD for system and 2TB for storage, plus 16GB RAM a fast GPU good screens too!

  11. They've been doing really well so far. It was cool when we've gotten 60Mbps h.264. They are the reason why I didn't sell my D5100 and D5200. Bought the NX1 6 months ago though, but I still use them as B and C cameras. Raw would be awesome!!! Long live Nikon Hacker and ML!!!

  12. Hello, I would like to purchase a Rectilux 3FF-W kit for use with my Kowa anamorphic for Bell & Howell lens. Thanks!

  13. Much better than the gh4. Its imo 12 usable stops given that the Blackmagic has 13 (which I use as my personal bench mark). So in my experience it has the same DR as the c100 and D16. Atleast a stop more than the a7s. And again more than the gh4. I have a g7 so I can do a comparing shot.

  15. That was my revenge mission after billionare Jim cussed out two important members of the online cinematography community. For that post and another I was banned. The ultimate in nerddom shame for a kid who's only violation in his life was an internal suspension in 8th grade.

    4th Axis Gimbal

If you're the one behind this, just be open about it. I've personally just about had it with folks registering to promote their brand and then pretend as if they haven't got much clue and we need to check it for them to give advice. Again... 0 post history before this and a campaign that needs more traction/people buying into it. Atleast I guess it has to do with filmmaking unlike that other guy asking our opinions on solar/wind energy charging/power solutions. Still as annoying as those Gudsen/Moza folks though. If it's interesting enough, it will get covered. Anyways. If you would've bothered to follow this forum, you'd have come across this topic: http://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/9273-nebula-4200-5-axis-gimbal/ . With posts like: Although the Nebula 4200 doesn't get too serious, which is great for us GH4/BMPCC/BMMCC/NX1/A7x shooters. But yeah, some might be looking for something that ís more serious... so who knows. If you have the money for a Ronin an a RED, you might just care enough about this.

  17. Sounds reasonable. That's similar terrain to the H1+ and CameTV Single. I like the option using it as 5-axis double handle or 3-axis single handle. The real issue for me with the Nebula 4000 was that people seemed to be really struggeling to get it tweaked just right. This is the most crucial part to get right and I feel like that's one of the reasons so many people are going with Pilotfly right now. They post combinations of cameras and lenses and it appears to be fairly easy to adjust. From another tech point the CameTV Single has the encoders which seem to do a great job. Seems the new Filmpower stabilizers are tool-free, which is a great plus. It's where others were heading as well. Good trend. Some added bluetooth control is nice too. Appears to have enough space to balance a camera and a somewhat bulkier lens, which I like. Feels like they've listened to what users of the Nebula 4000 and other pistol grip gimbal stabilizers said they were still missing/struggeling with. Including the up/down bounce. I was waiting for things to mature to a point that I'd believe it would be a must have tool in the bag. This might just be it. But like DBounce says... I need some more proof of concept than what I've seen so far. I'll probably wait till names like Dave Dugdale, Emm/MrCheesycam, Nitsan Simantov, Tom Antos, Jordan Drake, Erik Naso and/or others have giving it a proper review.

  18. Hot pixel issue has been fixed in Firmware 1.1 - see my comparison pictures between 1.0 and 1.1 Light is very different because the firmware update took like 30mins or so and it went completely dark by that time. So Version 1.0 had more light and F6.3... with firmware 1.1 I set it to F3.5 just because it was much darker. ISO was set to 100 and I pushed the image +5 stops in lightroom. If anyone wants the RAW files... I can upload them.

  19. That shot is a pretty extreme DR example. Sun blasting the pavement. It's also 1080 at 96fps which is the worst in regards to overall res/detail. Look at other shots and you'll see a difference. Trust me I've been shooting with the GH4 ALOT since it was released and the highlight rolloff is much improved.
