EOSHD advises Leica on LOG as SL system gets new firmware update
iamoui and 3 others reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
Yes definitely. Arri should be Leica's benchmark for the SL. Take it to the max! Unfortunately they had feedback from some pro shooters in the US that 8bit was their preference and they didn't want to deal with 10bit file sizes. In fact ProRes is much easier to edit than H.264, runs more fluidly. H.264 is not an editing codec. It's a consumer television / internet codec. I think 10bit ProRes is a much better match for a camera of this calibre than 8bit H.264 personally! Or at least the option for it internally, without having to add the recorder. It's not just a Leica problem though, it is time Sony and Panasonic all stepped up their codecs in stills cameras. Why is it only Blackmagic giving 10bit ProRes for under $7k, indeed under $1k with the Pocket cam!4 points -

A while ago I noted that FCP X was faster editing 4K material on a 2014 MBP and GT 750M GPU vs. Premiere Pro CC 2015 (latest) on a 12 Core MacPro and GTX 980ti. Today I tried FCP X on the MacPro in FCP X with C300 II 4K files. 4K editing was blazing fast- scrubbing instantaneously. This is full 4K resolution, native files (dual 4K displays). Curious to find the limit, I began stacking 4K clips and was able to get 6 4K clips (cropped so all 6 clips had visible elements) before there was visible slowdown (still usable!). 5 4K clips were fully real-time. On the same hardware & OSX, Premiere Pro CC 2015 can play one 4K clip in real-time. On the same hardware and Windows 10, playback resolution must be set to 1/2 to get near real-time performance. Resolve 12 (latest) wasn't able to play the C300 II 4K file in real-time on the MacPro in OSX. For fast 4K editing, FCP X is currently the champ.2 points

I don't know why FCPX continues to be bashed. It's an absolutely incredible editing program, very intuitive, very fast and greatly supported by third party software (plugins etc).2 points -
Kipon / Baveyes medium format speed booster for full frame Sony A7 series
BrorSvensson reacted to liamlumiere for a topic
Surprised no one has mentioned the fastest (and cheapest) MF lens, the Mamiya 80mm f/1.9, known as the Nocilux for Medium Format. It's sharp with lovely characteristic Bokeh. I use the 110mm f/2.8 also, gorgeous glass. I've shot some anamorphic footage also as a taking lens, the image is killer! Yes, the Hasselblads are optimal performers but I find the image less interesting on some versions but that's just me, I love that vintage look. And if we're talking bang-for-buck, nothing touches Mamiya - 200€ for the fastest MF ever made for mass production. Expect that price to go North if Kipon make a Mamiya mount, i'll be getting one for sure. A7rII/sII with this Kipon speed booster and the 80mm f/1.9 Sekor C? *drool*1 point -

One thing that others haven't picked up here is music videos. How many do you do? The 240fps 10bit on the FS5 is a huge feature that music video clients LOVE. Huge selling point. Plus the 10 bit is super useful for Chroma Key. The FS5 partners well to the A7S II for multi-cam. Canon doesn't really have an answer for a C-series b-cam, apart from the limited but lovely picture of the XC10. I've not used the C100, only the C300. That camera is the best camera I've used for docu-style by an absolute mile.1 point -
Nice-a! Ok. Such lushness to the image. The other looks a little stale in comparison.1 point

Recently got my NX1 for a bargain price. The 120fps mode is actually pretty good and can be edited flawlessly with any other Canon DSLR footage.1 point -

Its great that they are willing to improve it. It's something that all companies should do. But I still find the camera way overpriced for what it offers. If I were to spend that kind of money I would either get the A7rii AND the a7sii, or do it right and get a professional camera made for the job.1 point -

Very promising. I find the SL a very beautiful system. Big is beautiful. A full size HDMI connector sold it for me. Their promptness to approach Andrew rather than a typical 'still photography ambassador' for opinions on video functionality is very promising.1 point -
I've very excited. I'm a theater projectionist so I get to test it Wednesday morning. Seeing it in 2D first, then 3D, then at our opening on Thursday night. Then a week later in the new IMAX 4K lazer projection system. Hoping for a great film, expecting a decent one that falls below people's expectations. But I think the film is less a film and more a cultural event. Connects people of all ages. I've had 60+ year olds who have bought tickets in advance that have said this is the first film they've seen in theaters in over 10 years. Over 2000 tickets presold. This thing is a monster.1 point

Glad you got one Michael, I haven't used my d7100 that much since buying my nx1 back in june. It's really really good. Get the latest firmware, You can do this in Camera with Wifi. The DIS is really really good. Don't discount it yet. Especially with the Nikon zooms I know you have. I like it a lot with my 80-200 and tokina 28-70. I actually just found a 16-50 little pocket zoom that you got and am waiting to get that. ( I have no samsung native lenses, only my Nikon mount stuff and other random glass)1 point -

2016... and then having a 1998 looking site. Doesn't really exude confidence/professionalism. But then you see it actually has taken form... and there's specs, pics and video... though, given the specs, it's going to be a pricey one (3000~5000+ USD?). The Craft Camera announcement 'Starting under $1,000', as posted by someone around here earlier, will probably be a little bit more my kinda thing. But then is quite the opposite of the Aurora Camera... no specs, pics and video. Maybe they should friggin' join forces already. - Hum, see KineMINI 4K Basic doing 5199 EUR. Something like that then, probably. What's going on with Kinefinity these days anyway? Created some whirl a while back, but haven't heard people talking about them for quite some time, now.1 point -

It sounds like the C100mkii would be the perfect camera for you. Lightweight, internal NDs, great colors, very small file sizes, awesome ergonomics, great lowlight, XLR audio, auto focus, etc.1 point -

You guys know the "brenzier" panorama thing, take a look at the images and see the difference very clearly. A 30 shot is something like a 4x5", this speedbooster is more like a 4 shot.1 point

Buying a Canon 7D mkII
Zach Goodwin reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
For telephoto / wildlife a 7D Mk II with Sigma 50-150mm F2.8 beats 5D Mark III with 70-200mm F2.8L any day, just so much nicer to carry around than that fat bastard I am using the sigma zoom on the NX1 for 4K at the moment. It is also par focal!1 point -
