  1. You need to build rigs to support long lenses then they work fine , I have rigs to use them on tripods and totally different rigs to use them hand held on shoulder rigs , and they all have rods and lens supports to stop this movement jitters , some long lenses like the Nikon 80-200 I use as lot only work on rigs there is no way you can hold this lens just in you hands and shoot at 200mm .

  2. I know it's hard to spend the money a Macbook Retina costs, even more if you compare it with a similar PC. But if you use FCP X all the money is well spent!!! If you are a Premiere guy, get a PC!

Agreed. I personally dont use anything above 50mm FF-equivalent. something a tad below like a 28mm for APS-C is next to perfect for my style of shooting.

I hear ya, I was thinking about this earlier and wondering what long lenses people use. I have the G7 and the NX500, they both have large crops, so I rarely use anything over 50mm and usually I use a 28mm or 35mm f2. Obviously, there's a need for long lenses, I just haven't come across one yet. That 85mm f2 does look nice though.

  5. It seems there is one bmmcc flying. At least one.

  6. Definitely. Unless the build in camera amp gain cannot be turned completely off that is.

  7. At $650 that would be the professional solution and in that case an external recorder like the H1 would also be advised

  8. Sure, where you in Italy, or am I mistaken? If so... I always check http://geizhals.eu for availlability throughout the EU. From what I've gathered they only get a handful of units in every once and again and Blackmagic doesn't give them any heads-up, it just shows up... (or doesn't). So, best to (pre-)order it somewhere, like CVP, and hope that they'll get some in sometime soon and there's not a whole lot of people in front of you who reserved one... I was particularly interested in the same combo as well. Were two decent topics on the BMD Video Assist and Micro Cinema Camera around here somewhere. I was wishing some company would come up with something that would allow a little something like this: As I found this seeming a little awkward to use like that: There's some signs of life, but I haven't heard or seen anything when it will actually be availlable to go and pick up. I guess it's Blackmagic after all. They've been doing this for some years now though, you'd expect them to have their shit together by now. The button says 'Shipping in February'... but it has said other things before, so who knows...

  10. Yea the Macbook Pro is now spec wise falling behind, but they are not far away from a new release cycle. We probably will see Thunderbolt 3 there. I have a custom built PC as well. It's really hard to beat the price and performance, and most softwares I use are cross-platform or even cloud-based so I'm quite happy with it But just don't consider surface pro/book at the moment, not before they fix the battery issue. It's still horrible, making my SP4 a bit hard to work with.

  11. Pewdipie doesn't make his money from ad revinue, nor do many, if any successful youtubers - I define success as full time and paying the bills for someone not living with their parents. We make our money from promotional deals and brand associations. (And Jim Sterling from Patreon)I personally have stopped monitising my content because the money I earn from running ads is an absolute pitance in comparison. My non paid content is there specifically for audience retention, which gives me guarenteed eyes on my paid content, which directly relates to how much I can ask for.

  12. that improves it by a lot, great tip. Too bad the band already had to release it as is (damn deadlines). This kinda took me by suprise. I knew youtube was the worst (except for fb :P ), but not by that much

  13. I think the new technology is coming, those Thunderbolt 3 external video cards to make laptops more powerful when it's not being mobile. If you only occasionally need to edit on the run, maybe using proxy would be a good idea to save computing power? Windows 10 is working flawlessly on my desktop though, but I would still suggest a Mac.

There exists an awesome wiki about OM lenses, unfortunately it is in German-only. However if you need something translated in particular, let me know.

  16. That's not a real "solution." Sony still struggles so hard in mixed lighting. The canon looks amazing every time.

  19. After having read article again I still do not see any reason why Panasonic would complicate a successful product with such a proposal ...it would be folly to make such a change for what is a very niche sector (essentially a small group of people who can not afford to buy the camera that does everything they want) the capabilities that are stated are available now in much higher end cameras and I put it to you that 90% of users of gh4 would'nt need these features ...those that would ...are likely to be in a group who would bolt on thousands £'s worth of Cooke panchro's instead of these new lens products proposed anyway ...the gh4 is available for £900 it was not (in my humble opinion ) intended to compete in the high-end tv or cinema ,the fact that it can and does is a testament to its capability as it stands you can take almost any legacy lens or high end cinema lens and go make a film, a documentary, a wollace and grommit style animation ,anamorphic epic, 4K internal ,4K photo, journalism and the list goes on what Sony does or does not is bollocks because it's twice the price,it's full frame glass costs more ,it does'nt have the feature set ,menus are hap hazard ,the discussion about the 6300 is irrelevant ,how is it viable to compare a brand new product with a two year old one, Panasonic 4K at that price point, changed the market...everyone reacted ,that means Panasonic are and have been leading ,only now does Sony do 4K internally( at twice the price)....even today you want to beat it you have to buy another pansonic product g7,lx100, the people making these proposals think nothing of then spending £1200 on a shogun,or an odyssey ,thousands on glass, gimbal's etc ,when at the heart is a£900 camera ,the fact that it's there at the heart seems to carry no credit,go buy a red dragon or an arri alexa ...build that up see what that costs (house money). All it has to do is minor improvements, the question is will they be big enough for existing users to warrant the upgrade, and there are a lot of us ...their sole motivation should be that

  20. As interesting as everyone's half-baked lens rhetoric is, can we get back on topic?

  21. Am I reading this incorrectly? It seems to agree with me to a decent approximation. The f8 and m43 lines intersect at about 13MP, which is about the 8MP (in a 16:9 crop) needed for 4k.

  22. omg ? > seriously tho, Zak is one of the most GENEROUS filmmakers on all of the internets, and his insight is exceptionally valuable because of how goddam talented he is i WISH i had a team like Zak does. invaluable. i would feel like "this movie [im making] is gonna be amazing we're gonna make a lot of money" instead of "?????!!!!" lastly, purely in terms of business models, Down and Dangerous is a fantastically educational case study, thanks to the fact that Zak has graciously shared so much information about his process. the trailer itself is so professional it transcends any perception of low budget filmmaking. if i saw the trailer for D&D on television during a commercial break on fox in 2016 it would never occur to me that it didnt belong there. clearly paramount pictures feels the same way so, fyi: Zak Forsman isnt some jabroni, hes an awesome dude*. thanks for the inspiration, Zak *and ruggedly handsome i might add

  23. good night, brave troll. and it's spelled "genius", genius. The movie was distributed by paramount internationally. that included both those countries and whatever rock you just crawled back under.

  24. around the time of the release of the movie, the total seeds for all the torrents i could find was just over 10,000. i don't know how high it got. The Turkish YouTube upload had just crossed 100,000 views when i discovered it (it had been up for more than a month). A torrent was also likely used to make bootleg Blu-rays that one of my actors found in Hong Kong. ps - fuck you, you belittling asshole.

  25. haha, are you crazy? you want to sacrifice everything interesting in the cinema world for huge, safe, superhero movies? because DP is right. it's the big tent pole pictures that stand to survive this. what we'll lose and are already losing are the mid-budget and low budget pictures that were positioned to tell more unique stories from more diverse points of view. If i had to choose, I'd much rather have it the other way around.

  26. I'm talking with Panasonic UK about cameras for the movie I'm working on right now and Panasonic have denied there is a Gh5; when I asked them about the possible spec of this camera , they said the Gh5 does not exist .......

  27. The red circle is caused by the old magnesium fluoride coatings on the spherical components. And considering The Thing used Panavision Super Speed lenses, the spherical components might've been from the 60s or 70s when such coatings were prevalent. The old Todd-AO 35 anamorphics as well as the Dyaliscopes had similar artifacts. If you want to reproduce it, you should pay special attention to the taking lenses you use. Maybe something like a Super Takumar, or even older glass would make it happen.

  28. Astral photography isn't the first thing I think of when I consider the type of photographer I am, but the experience of researching and going to this spot and tirelessly researching the techniques it took to get this shot I think really does sum me up. This is why I love this forum and what Andrew has done with EOSHD. I'm constantly reading what you all share and love the community aspect of being a creative person in this day and age. I very easily could've died getting this shot as I almost was bitten by a rattlesnake in the dark when helping another photographer with her camera settings. Makes it an even more memorable experience for me.
