  1. They have been using it for quite some time with great results. Definetelly shows a segment where the camera is great. This is mainly a "film maker" forum. But we sometimes seem to forget that not everyone of Panasony and Canikons customers are. Some are videomakers like Jared and some are still photographers, again like Jarred. Thats why I sometimes have an issue with the "only an idiot would..", "thats crap because..." and "why does Canon..." type of attitude on every single product that doesnt also serve as a perfect tool for shooting a narrative movie.

  5. Update on the H2! First off all, the unit I received was not working straight out of the box as advertised. I don't know if was unlucky as I got one of the first shipments, 28th March. Unfortunately support was limited to short sentences and the fix was not very intuitive, at least for a Mac user. Here's how I got my unit working: 1. The USB cable that came with the product was not recognized by my Mac or my friends PC. We unscrewed the handle and tried another cable (the lock-ring on the handle is blocking the USB-entrance so you're supposed to use the the supplied cable which is a bit longer). 2. We managed to establish a connection with a PC and update the firmware as described in Team Pilotfly's video, see Cinegain's latest post. Note that you need a PC to update the firmware, doesn't work with mac. 3. After the firmware was updated I mounted the handle and tried to connect with the supplied USB cable to my mac, and it worked. Go figure!? It's also possible to adjust the settings via USB to Mac or via Bluetooth, but you need a freaking PC to update the firmware!! I adjusted the settings as described in the video. I haven't tested the unit outside yet, but it seems to be working as it should. It's exhausted from trial and error and is charging right now. I will post some tests later today or tomorrow. Vari-angle screen mode for GH4 etc 1. IMO the unit is not designed to have the motor on the right to make space for a vari-angle screen but it is possible according to Pilotfly. 2. Only problem is that it's not working for me and at least one other commenter on the video that describes the procedure! The motors are working to hard causing heavy shakes, rolling shutter and noise. 3. Home mode doesn't work, and they haven't said anything about whether they are working on a solution or not. 4. The extra safety pin on the baseplate/cameraplate is not compatible in this mode so make sure to tighten the srew. (Not a big deal) The last thing is that you can hear the motors buzzing (in a quiet room) when they're compensating for movement. I don't know if this is normal for all of these devices? Footage coming soon! hopefully...

  6. You should also look into the Kinefinity Terra, or a battle tested Kinemini 4k for that matter.

  10. Here are two comparison videos with side-by-side evaluations on a number of areas, like low light, slow motion, audio, rolling shutter, and how they key. Part 1: Part 2: In short: Ursa Mini: better overall picture (flatter shooting profile, better color gamut) global shutter, better for green screening Nx1: sharper, less noise in low light, better audio, better slow motion

  11. on a not entirely unrelated note I love the way the walking dead uses color grading to set the mood When the characters are in a safe location like behind the walls in their compound everything is super bright and all the colors are really saturated then they will quickly transition to being super flat and de-saturated. I am not a huge fan of this show as a whole but think it is a perfect example how color grading can really make the viewer feel a certain way eg. safe and comfortable and unsafe and on edge.

    Canon 18-80mm f4

A much larger and more boring market of low end pros, yes. Sort of like the market for the C100 and C300.

  13. Just add a 0.71x SB to your 24-105 and you have a 17-75mm f/2.8

  14. Yep, I got the email too. Curious to see what new players come up with, although their very secretive and vague approach is a bit odd. Maybe they haven't got the patent for the technology and need to protect it, who knows. The camera announcement of the year has to be the Kinefinity Terra so far. I hope this Craft Camera sends a few waves too!

Will have a look at it and here's some info about the transfer-formats to Sonys solution ! https://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/cat-broadcastcameras/resource.latest.bbsccms-assets-cat-cambroprod-latest-hxrifr5.shtml I cannot access the pictures as I'm not a member, but post them here, AaronChicago . 20. TV Dino, the Odyssey 7Q and 7Q+ record s35 4K raw upto 60fps (continuous) and 120fps in 4 second bursts. It can also take the raw signal and convert to ProRes, which also looks great. You need to make sure the Fs700 has been upgraded to allow raw via the HD-SDI, but otherwise it is fairly small and cheap way to get some very high end features. I have seen FS700/O7q combos for $6K or so... I really think it is a better deal than a used Scarlet, but depends on your workflow, image tastes etc. Even just having ND filters is a massive plus, for me... E mount is great... Low light good... Checks alot of boxes

  23. I bought the Shure for $255. Here, it is either unavailable, or in the $450+ price range. Like I said, if "Dual Mono", and a "very wide pickup pattern" is not an issue with you, you will love the preamps, and the ability to record a backup track (you can save it at 10-15dB lower than the one going into the camera, where cameras have headphone inputs). I hope that helps. I didn't realize (/know) that Martin Wallgren had such easy access to Panasonic. Then, maybe, we should All contact him/ troll him, on Facebook and Twitter, and ask him to take it up with Panasonic. I also suspect that the HDMI out is a dud, possibly even worse than the one on the Panasonic G7 I wonder if we should start Another Thread, for the purpose of letting Panasonic know, What they Should add to the GX80/ GX85/ GX7 ii, in terms of Firmware.

  24. I had a nice set of FD and I loved them, now I have a set of Contax Zeiss and I find that they are super: better construction, better feeling when you use them, better sharpness at wide open aperture (the FD 50 f/1.4 and the FD 85 f/1.8 where unusable wide open), great color rendition. The only drawback is the number of blades for the bokeh, most CY have just 6 blades. But wide open they are very close (someone says identical) to Zeiss Primes.

    Canon 18-80mm f4

Notice the 'I'd' and 'just me'. I wouldn't shoot a Canon to begin with, tbh. But anyways... the PXW-FS5K for example includes a SELP18105G. That's the Powerzoom 18-105mm f/4 G OSS E-mount lens. It goes for $548.00. You know. Not that I would go that way either. But it just seems a bit over the top... so, more or less typically Canon. But like the XC10, I know there's always going to be people that will appreciate it. I just don't see it. I'll make do with other set-ups. He asked for thoughts, I gave him one.

  27. Andrew, there is some Glitch wrt to Uploading Pics from a Smartphone. I had to use a laptop, just to be able to Upload this Pic. Anyway, I don't know why people continue to create confusion, when everything is outlined so clearly. Please read and watch everything, and stop misinterpreting things. And, thanks ntblowz

  28. If you're noticing the aspect ratio change instead of the character's actions, that speaks for the movie itself. hahahaha I think it's a powerful tool, definitely underused because there's no clear "rules" on how or when to do it.

  29. It's not quite differently for each object - your brain can correct zones differently, but it's not great at it, and things like hormone levels can affect it greatly, a simple fight or flight state can turn your vision black and white in some zones! Definately think twice, depending on your sensitivity to WB issues, it's not really reliable, and it sounds like you are sensitive to them Try to get it perfect for you in camera, especially with 8bits, but don't expect everyone else to see perfect for you as perfect for them! Even when you're trying to shoot a realistic scene colourwise, you're still making artistic decisions, especially with the limitations of technology and some people just have slightly different expectations of correct WB. It's definately worth investing in a colour card with fleshtone panels on it to play with, set up a few scenes, lit different ways with the card in it, so you can see and get a feel for how your camera handles your white balance adjustments - experience and practice is the real key

  30. You know exactly what I'm trying to say, come on now. What if I told you that in my opinion the Mazda CX-3 is the car to get rather than the McLaren 675LT Spider? Is it really a fact that the McLaren is the actual better car? Doesn't it depend on your own personal criteria of what makes a great car? So the 675LT Spider goes faster, well the Mazda has the better mileage, etc. How's it different when you talk cameras? You might have different criteria, hence different opinions. Non of the opinions are good as facts (albeit some opinions might be more reasonable than others) unless you make your conclusions quantifiable and post proof comparing results. He didn't present a fact, he even said it's his opinion... twice for crying out loud (based on his personal critera). He doesn't have to provide proof as he claimed it's his opinion. Just let the man have his opinion, already. Geez. If you want to go against it... sure. Ask him about his actual criteria. Then you can come up with measurable results and compare it, proving you're right. But even then there's a question of taste. How do you quantify something that 'looks good' to you? That's different from one person to the next. Not sure why you need everyone with the same opinion here. It's a forum. I value people that share their experience and opinions.

  31. Found something decent shot on the Kinemini 4k - nice and organic looking. Also love the use of lenses in this short. https://vimeo.com/159982174

  32. I'm not well versed with many of the lenses that have come up here, I can vouch for a couple of Nikon lenses that are your desired focal lengths being very light though: The Nikon 35mm f1.8 G- although it felt a bit plasticy out the packaging, that plasticy-ness translates to it being light. It's a metal mount still. It's built for aps-c sensor sizes. I use it on a G7 with metabones XL and can confirm there's no vignetting in video modes. Possibly slightly for stills. Weighs under 200g. The Nikon D 50mm f1.8 is even lighter still. In your budget you could get the f1.4 version, which is still lightweight. I also have the Nikon D 85mm f1.8. Seems like a great lens from my use of it so far. Hope that's of some use.

  34. 5 axis... X Y Roll (rotation - this can be done mechanically for stills, or digitally with crop in video mode) Pitch (tilt up / down correction) Yaw (tilt left / right correction) I can see roll, pitch and yaw being done digitally with a crop in video mode or via OIS. It depends if the mechanical sensor movement covers all 5 axis, or just X, Y and Roll, using the lens for pitch and yaw (like Sony's system) Does the Olympus system correct by tilting the sensor pitch and yaw? I think it probably does. If so then Panasonic might be doing the same thing - all 5 axis on the sensor. Then it would work with manual lenses with no electronic contacts, just like the Olympus system. Or it may be that in video mode the electro-magnetic IBIS compensates for 3 axis (X, Y and roll) but uses electronic image shift with small crop to achieve pitch and yaw correction in 4K video mode. Maybe roll would be electronically compensated too. OIS usually compensates for yaw and pitch. EDIT: it looks like they do indeed have 5 axis IBIS so the sensor can move on the X and Y axis, plus rotate, plus tilt horizontally and vertically. So same as Olympus. What they do with the OIS is probably improve the yaw and pitch control by switching the IBIS to 3 axis and doing the other 2 on the lens. This might reduce image warping especially with wide angle lenses. This was an issue with the Olympus system in video mode

  35. Stop shooting with ISO 6500 on a t2i and you won't need noise reduction. ?

  36. Right!? I'm genuinely stunned they haven't stuck the EF-M mount on a Cinema EOS camera yet. Here they've got a great mirrorless mount with speed boosters and adapters for EF(-S) compatibility just sitting there and they're doing precisely dick all with it.
