I'm travelling to Venice, Italy for work tomorrow. I hope I manage to get some shots with the GX80 while I'm there as well.4 points

It would not install if you didn't have the correct firmware, so you don't have to worry about that. If after boot, you see something like [Mod V1.xx], that means Mod is loaded. Now check the key-scan. Press EV_UP, if it works you will get a message "Preset missing" (I wonder if the keyscan didn't load for some reason, or your buttons are mapped differently)3 points

honestly, those cameras are a bit like a black-box, and you never quite know what and why they do it. if your 2.5K turns out "interlaced" is absolutely useless. imho, it is not really interlaced, but looks like it, and you will not be able to fix it. It is not the temperature, as in the span of 15 min, I shot 4-5 clips, and only one was "interlaced". Why - no idea. I don't think I changed the settings then. My own camera can't be used as a reference as it has been messed with extensively, however I noticed that @outerbeat's video looks much more NRed, and at least here (on my nx500), the effects of NR are far less noticeable. In the mod there isn't anything that specifically changes NR. However especially at ISO 3200, I get quite a nice grain, which does not look NRed at all (at least at the very high frequency) I though that it may be due to the different models, and the NX1's are the one suffering a lot from NR, but if you notice fine grain on NX1 footage, maybe it's something else. edit: if you have noticed it only on the NX500, and is different than before, the only difference from NX1is setting the VGA to 2.5K, which I'm not sure how may affect it, but there is also the "silent shutter" which you probably have enabled (but if it affects the NR - I don't know).2 points

Petition for Samsung NX1 hack
Kisaha and one other reacted to Garth Philpot for a topic
Ok, folks, so my appologies to all. I picked this up from a samsung store as a "shop demo" for well below clear-out retail, but it seems some one may have fiddled with it. the map key reset has solved the issue, thank-you all, I will make a donation tomorrow. thanks again.2 points -
This looks totally insane. The stab on the video with the 42.5mm looks almost better than on a gimbal. The GH5 is going to be insane, same stab but with killer features and 4k60p. My only fear is about the AF, if only it could be on par with a6300 or canon DPAF . EM1 mark 2 will have 4K (just has been confirmed) But GH5 will be a whole league ahead for video so who cares. Can't wait for september. This is going to be the best Photokina ever: Canon 5D IV / EM1 mark 2 / GH5 / Sony A9 / Fuji XT...2 points

No this is Samsung NX500 in 1440p and 2160p mode at 6400ISO (highest it will go) There appears to be no NR on in these video modes with Kino's Mod Pack, but I am not sure if his Mod Pack turned off NR for UHD mode for some reasons. Also if you apply noise reduction on these footages it looks way better than NX1 at 6400ISO The fact its not colour noise either means a lot of colour is saved as well.2 points

Real estate video - beautiful home in 4K (+aerials)
Davey reacted to Theuniqueview for a topic
Hi everyone, I shot a real estate video last week with both my Phantom 4 and the GH4. Let me know what you think! Enjoy!1 point -
Is it possibile to see this NR difference between nx500 and nx1 somehow on the same scene?I didn't spot this difference.1 point
-
Yep... it's gonna be big... What is interesting is that it is impossible to show how good it is using text, images, video etc ..... It feels like an exclusive club right now. In 5-10 years, it'll be stunning (once we hit 8k per eye!)1 point

I had about an hour on it and then ordered it. VR will completely change the world of work and entertainment, it's so exciting after the drab 3DTV malarket was DOA. I never got into that, it was just obviously not going to happen, but this... well you use it and then everything has just changed. EDIT: Malarket! an accident but i like it: malarkey + market = malarket.1 point

BlackMagic Micro Cinema Update?
IronFilm reacted to Zak Forsman for a topic
i'm not an expert, here's the suggested minimums. http://documents.blackmagicdesign.com/DaVinciResolve/DaVinci_Resolve_12_Beta_Configuration_Guide.pdf I have a GTX 980 ti 6GB and get realtime playback of HD RAW files until I get upwards of 5 or 6 nodes. that includes NR. the ratio of lens to camera here is amazing.1 point -
That is very true, I think there is a big difference between nx1 and nx500 here in NR section. I can't shoot any video with proper noise, but it's almost two month since we start digging NR in NX. But you know, while I print this, one thought come to mind and I think there is a way to test nx1 about NR I didn't check yet. As always, good talk ))1 point

I might be overreacting a bit, artefacts is something I rather not have in my videos but its something I can live with if its not as visible and the bonuses outweight its downsides. After all, with no NR being applied and no digital sharpening is definitely enough for me to continue shooting 1440p25 which looks bloody gorgeous. But the interlacing look alike artefacts appear more frequent for me for some reasons, I have no idea what causes them, maybe its the heat? Its around 20 - 30 degrees over here so I am giving the camera some workout, I use 140mbps I noticed with DC it uses the pro setting which was set to 150mbps for some reasons the NX500 wont do 160mbps on my 128GB Lexar card but it will do 160mbps on my NX1 just fine but 24fps is not in my taste definitely. Also did the NX500 have NR applied in UHD and 4K mode before your hack is applied? Because as I stated earlier on page 64, UHD and 4K seem to lack the presence of NR and have similar noise patern like the 1440p mode, is this something you can confirm? Or was it already there before the mod was applied?1 point
-
I included the 2.5K as option to be set on the DC channel (for testing), and ran a few test shots today, and looks like there is no difference in quality from when being on VGA. However with regard to the "interlacing" you are talking about, I get it only once in a while - maybe once in 50 recordings. 2.5K does exhibit more problematic artifacts indeed, and increasing the bitrate does not help here, however it's far from "useless", well... I guess it's a matter of personal preference. here is an example from today's 2.5K / 180Mbps test out of camera: applied RGB curves only:1 point

Petition for Samsung NX1 hack
Dean reacted to Garth Philpot for a topic
On a side note, would anybody be interested in working on a pdf with stills or an instruction video that we could embed in the post, so as to make this quite clear for new users. ie check firmware, reset camera to defaults, wipe card, place files in root etc, I can edit it in an afternoon, but would like someone to just check that the information is indeed correct. maybe some small points relating to what cards work best, and what speeds you will get out of them (maybe 5 most popular etc) I have 3 lens adapters arriving for EF, OM and M42 if there is any info that can come from those too...1 point -
I have a Vive on preorder on the way soon, so will definitely try this out!1 point

Reds are plenty sharp enough for me. There's no sharpening applied to the raw, you can select sharpening in standard red debayer which isn't great, or apply your own. Consumer cams use a ton in camera and compress the shit out of the data. Sharpening is part of trying to get detail back from a bayer array. Here's a short test. I was going for Emmanuel Lubezski plus cats LOLOLOL!!!1one!!1! 1st shot 4K 25fps, 2nd shot 2K 50fps. So yes the second shot is cropped in. It's not that noisy, certainly not unmanagable at ISO800 here. I think it was 60mm Macro1 point

Yeap! Future-proof is an interesting concept. The Godfather was filmed on "old" technology. I will watch that 40 years from now. Actually, shooting analog film is probably your best bet for future proof. The film scanning tech keeps getting better, you can scan super 8 into 4k raw now! :D1 point

Yea... the Oculus and Vive are far, far better in terms of reducing nausea, due to the better head tracking, latency and refresh rate (90hz) I've used the Vive for over an hour without any headaches or nausea. Mobile tech will catch up over the next few years.1 point

Still raw images are very good up to iso 3200. With a bit of nr in pp you can get almost noise free images. Hence also video should be the same! There is something going on that destroys the video at iso 1600 and higher.1 point -

Premiere Pro - Re-linking Media After Moving Media - Something is Baked
User reacted to Don Kotlos for a topic
To link media the new files have to be at a folder further upstream from the old data. 1. Move the old media location to some different folder, preferably to another drive. 2. If it hasn't been done automaticaly, select all clips and right click to "make offline" 3. Select all media, right click to "link media" 4. Tick "relink others automatically" 5. Find one of the files that you want to link1 point -

The nice thing about Cine 4 is base ISO is so much lower and you don't have to deal with some of the other issues slog brings to the mix. Even though I shoot a lot of high contrast stuff since I'm always in the sun, its such a PITA to get so heavy handed with the ND's since that creates other issues with regards to color for me - so I never shoot slog with the A7s or A7rII. But I'm not an expert with color correction either, I make minor adjustments and use LUT's for a look with the basic color correctors in Premiere and FCP. I don't do Resolve. Samuel H. has a lot of good technical info with color charts. http://www.similaar.com/foto/flaat-a7s/technical-tests.html#waveform Wolfcrow is another great resource, though he's so in depth much of his stuff is over my head.1 point

Which Tripod for Sliders?
HelsinkiZim reacted to Chris Bernard for a topic
Manfrotto 535 or 536 in carbon. Complete work horses and super sturdy. Both would fit in your budget. I used to put a Kessler Travel Slider on my 536 and it's rock solid. You could probably get away with a 30 to 36 inch slider on one of those and be okay.1 point -
I found the 2K on MX is about as good as 5DII, in terms of resolution.... No amount of post can sharpen it to a reasonable level. The lack of detail, coupled with the poor ISO put me off ever buying one... I have not used Dragon yet... But I would look closely at an FS700/O7Q combo before buying an MX based camera... Better low light, better HFR (4K/120fps, non windowed), better on-board sound, NDs, ProRes and much lighter, even with the Odyssey.1 point

To be fair, all Red cams are soft (even the 8K weapons). But they are purposefully done that way? There is no incamera sharpening and no incamera noise reduction. Redcode is RAW. At which point everything is done in post. I think what people get really excited about when dealing with RAW is the white balance sliders and ISO adjustment... Etc.1 point

Lenses
TheRenaissanceMan reacted to Geoff CB for a topic
They are perfect for me, use them on a D750 and a NX1. Great color, "pop", and the size is is a godsend. Very smooth focus, all metal build. 28, 40, and 90mm work with my SLR magic anamorphot wide open. All have pretty long focus throws (20mm: 180, 28mm: 140, 40mm: 150, 58mm: 200, 90mm: 270), and can focus very close, the 40/90 have macro adapters. All are razor sharp wide open near the center, with the 20mm suffering from poor corners. My least favorite is the 58mm, same great color but different rendering than the rest, and focusing on it is somehow more difficult than the others. I only use it in low light situations.1 point -

Which Tripod for Sliders?
HelsinkiZim reacted to Liszon for a topic
I would go with this one: Manfrotto 535 MPRO. http://cvp.com/index.php?t=product/manfrotto_535 Only heard good things about it. 20kg load capacity, lightweight construction, good price. Also take a look at this ball head: http://www.wexphotographic.com/buy-manfrotto-mh057m0-q5-magnesium-ball-head/p1527869 All you need now is a Manfrotto half-ball mount and you are good to go, still under 800. And probably much more future proof than the 504, this ball head takes gear up to 15kg.1 point -
BlackMagic Micro Cinema Update?
JazzBox reacted to Zak Forsman for a topic
noise is slightly improved, rolling shutter is improved. I personally prefer the micro brain form factor to the pocket's point and shoot design. adding up all the improvements, there was enough for me to make the upgrade. but that's a call each person needs to make on their own -- if the slight improvements and differences justify the expense.1 point -
