How I got scammed through "Ebrahim Saadawi"
jax_rox and 3 others reacted to Kristoferman for a topic
I had the same concerns. There are a lot of red flags in this post. If he is indeed so wealthy to where he makes the amount of scammed money in a day, then refund it. Don't say you'll refund it "someday" and then say you have no obligation to do anything. And the biggest red flag of all is the "this will be my last post, I'm leaving forever". That is NOT something a innocent person would do. Saying you're worried about more scammers is not a logical concern. Someone who was actually trying to make things right would not cut themselves off from us and the victims. But you know who would? A scammer. It all just seems very transparent to me. The whole "this is terrible, I'd never do this! I'm so rich, why would I need to do this? Even though I'm so loaded and people were scammed of thousands of dollars in my name, I have no obligation to pay. But I will! Someday....oh by the way I'm never going to come back here again. Bye!" thing is soooo shady. It doesn't make sense, people!4 points -

Yeah, in the context of what's happening in France this is all peanuts...so so sad for all those people just having a good time :-( Thanks Ebrahim Senior for replying (at least, if that's really you...). If what you're saying is true, I feel for you. However, please consider, and if possible, clarify the following: WU money transfer pick ups require an ID. I provided the name Ebrahim Ebrahim Saadawi. Collection of the money was confirmed. The conversation @IshootbeforeItalk had on facebook was with someone using your grandsons personal account, that's where that chat is coming from. So if hacking was involved, it is rather extensive... I emailed you wednesday July 13th on the emailadress you mentioned above (so before this forum post). You did not reply. Man, this thing is getting super weird. Fake identities, possible hacking. Like a Philip K. DIck novel..."A Scammer Darkly"4 points -

The last paragraph in that Facebook response is the most telling... "But you already know that you're powerless right now to do anything to regain your money from someone you know nothing about his/her name, whereabouts, age, occupation, phone number, nothing, and that's why you're freaking out" It would seem as though this person is admitting that he is not Ebrahim, I think I believe Ebrahim... What would he have to gain? Unless he came onto this board years ago with every intent of playing the long con to swindle a relatively small amount of money. Unlikely.4 points -

Amazing how you guys have improved on the original firmware. That made me buy a used NX1 with 16-50 PZ lens through Amazon market place today for 460 €. Too good to be true? I am a little bit anxious whether this is a scam or I got really lucky... Keep up the good work and thank you for putting so much energy in this project!!!3 points -

Another quick test (this is one of the first test) the lens still is not perfectly aligned, and this creates a little blur in the lower part. Nevertheless, it also corrects distortion, behaving in the opposite way to the way a wide angle. Also, you can see the brightness gain of 1 stop in dark areas.3 points -

I have two 5d mkiii's I need to sell very fast. I'm currently in Dakar (Senegal) shooting a documentary about my great-grandfather who was an african king, and I've lost my travellers checks, and my credit cards refuse to work here. If you send me 500$ (US) for one, or 900$ for both I will send them for free. This is an EOSHD only offer for longtime posters only as I don't trust other people. Send me an PM if you are interested so I can give you the western union wiretransfer details. Act fast, once in a lifetime chance (I will throw in two extra batteries and chargers, and two Komputerbay x1066 128mb cards for each camera)2 points

The only problem with lighting is having lights. Well, knowing how to choose 'em and use 'em helps. I see so many posts from newbies trying to figure out which LED to get as their first light, and man... get on eBay and grab a couple used fresnels and a couple used open-faced lights, some bounce and some scrims. If you need daylight, you can usually get about 3x the power from biax flos than the same expense of LED. Look at Roger Deakins' forum - the amount of amazing work he's done with a couple redheads and a fresnel is amazing. And his rigs of porcelain sockets and household light bulbs. Sure, he's done plenty of work with banks of 4K HMIs and generator trucks, but the guy is a master-class in "use what works".2 points

Don't know about you. But if I'd be going through this, having a mob of people going wild with speculations... doing a skype call with such a mob wouldn't really be in my interest. Notice how calm the thread starter (and victim of a scam) has been throughout this thread? I think it would be great if Ebrahim Sr and Timotheus would have a calm one-on-one call by themselves to try to figure and possibly sort things out. No need to make this into a reality show. If everything said by Timotheus and Ebrahim Sr is true, they're probably both going through some shitty times.2 points -

The real lesson here is never use western union for these kind of transactions. And to be clear, I'm not going down this rabbit hole of searching for proof of the existence of Ebrahim or theorizing about specifics of the scam and his involvement. I was merely stating that the first reply by the account in this thread was...strange.. and that breaking off contact with the scammed community is something that damages his reputation further.2 points -
Right. Joining a site in December 2013, then put in the effort of writing more than 2000 posts in a forum for two and a half years, to do six scams worth of a few thousand USD? If you want to scam, I think you could have as well done that after the first 300 posts or so...2 points

This post reads like bullshit to me.. why not refund the money right now, since you are so well off? Why would you be banned for trying to get on here and sort it out? And why would you say that you have no obligation to refund the money, when you admit it was someone very close to you? Does this not sound like the tone of the young punk and his message on facebook? Is there an Ebrahim Sr, or has it just been a scam all along? If there are 6 people admitted as being scammed, are there really more? Has someone been standing too close to a nuclear radiology machine? Did we really go to the moon? Will a hero solve the mystery, get the girl, and ride off into the sunset? Time may tell:)2 points -

I think we should move on. From now on, it is just speculation, a public tribunal that will only damage the reputation of someone further. Ebrahim Snr. is going to refund all buyers at his expense. If this tread did not bring justice to the buyers, I do not know what justice is. More accusatory comments (subtle or not) are just driven by revenge and desire to harm. Ebrahim Snr. acknowledged that the scammer is someone close to him. He will find out who the scammer is sooner or later and as he is the one most affected, financially (he will refund buyers) and in his reputation, he should decide what to do, not us. He said he will stop using the account, thus there is little chance that the scam will continue. I urge the administrator to close the topic and be in contact with Ebrahim Snr. and the buyers via e-mail to confirm that they were refunded. If that happens, there is nothing more to discuss about it.2 points

Can confirm LED strobes that have 'decay/pulse/fade' option work well. Did a shoot recently where gunfire flashes needed to be simulated as interactive lighting. No rolling shutter /half frame issues. Don't recall the brand but they were consumer grade DJ fixtures. DMX controlled - or 0-10v trigger input (which is what I rigged up to a simple nail board to manually strike multiple flash runs on cue). Should be a cheap rent or affordable purchase. Ideally do a camera test first with one or more units before ordering 502 points

Loving this discussion going on! I am very grateful to hear different perspectives especially if they meander too! Off topic here but speaking of writer/director combo, I'm blown away at Richard Linklater's process for "Boyhood". To have a general structure of the story written for the 12 years, but then to pretty much produce a short episode each year and to have had pretty much full cooperation from cast and crew over the 12 years, pretty astounding stuff! They couldn't sign a 12-year contract either, as anything over 7 was illegal. He must have made an amazing pitch to IFC, getting them to commit to that process.2 points

I think Sony, in their guide to Picture Profiles (including S log), explains it very well why getting it right *in the camera* is the best way to get high quality video that looks like what you want. This is especially true for 8-bit 4:2:0 video: "Picture Profile adjusts colors and the vividness of the image during recording. You can make similar adjustments by using nonlinear editing software after shooting. But there are the following differences. To fit massive amounts of image data in a limited memory capacity, this camera compresses image data when recording. No matter how advanced a compression format is, any data compression inevitably deteriorates image quality somewhat. Applying sharpness, gamma curve correction and other video effects to recorded images by using nonlinear editing software worsens the image condition further by processing already deteriorated images. For example, if video compression leaves the image with poor contrast or block noise in some areas, applying video effects often make the problems more noticeable. Because Picture Profile processes video signals before compressing, it changes the gamma curve and corrects colors before image quality is damaged by compression. This makes it possible to carry out highly precise image adjustments while keeping the quality of the subject intact. It should also be noted that recording images with proper contrast is crucial. If image contrast in dark and bright areas is not recorded properly, this will result in underexposed dark and overexposed white areas with no gradations. This means you cannot change image contrast properly later on with nonlinear editing software no matter how hard you try because there will be no gradations to work with. If you intend to process your video with nonlinear editing software later, it is important that you record your image in the right way. Nonlinear editing software is a very powerful tool, but can’t fix everything. If you adjust various settings to make sure your video is recorded in a way that matches your ideal as much as possible, you will be able to create a video that will be closer to what you have in mind with minimal processing via nonlinear editing software. It will also keep rendering time short and make video editing work more efficient." The italics are mine. Color Profiles.pdf2 points

You are right, of course. It's just that an original, organic story needs to be structured. It needs to be edited, rewritten, polished, trimmed. But the wild and uncensored idea must be first. The content. Even meaning and message come later. Or everything becomes a boring mess.1 point

This second post is just as weird... It's pretty likely someone very close to you is the culprit (if it's really you typing Snr), as they have access to and knowledge about your gear, they also have your password (or worked it out), so surely there aren't that many possible suspects. I highly doubt many people would be able to put all those things together well and also know the finer details about an obscure piece of equipment such as the SLR RF and know it was actually worth something (it just looks like a cheap filter to any normal person). Also a common thief would just steal this product, not try and scam people online... Suspects are fairly limited I would say, unless you have an army of people working for you? Also this stuff has gone missing only recently, which should make it pretty easy to narrow down.1 point

How I got scammed through "Ebrahim Saadawi"
Michael Coffee reacted to dahlfors for a topic
Anyway, I've been here since before Ebrahim Saadawi joined EOSHD, and I've read many posts from that account. From the very beginning there was the note in the signature that two people from the same family with same name used the account. I always found it weird that people share an account, hence I remember noticing it from the very beginning. I do believe that there is at least two people using the account - since there has been a difference in language and style of posts. I have no idea if there has been more than those two using the same account. Possible, I guess. I don't think it's too constructive with all the speculation here. The only constructive thing would be to actually try to get in contact with Ebrahim senior - the most plausible thing is that both him and junior exist. That in itself might prove difficult for English-speakers, since Egyptian Arabic is the main language in Egypt. Hence if you want to google something regarding their persons (or companies) in Egypt - you better do it in Arabic. Also, a good thing to read and keep in mind considering the speculations here, is the infamous case of when reddit tried to solve the Boston bombings: http://www.businessinsider.com/reddit-falsely-accuses-sunil-tripathi-of-boston-bombing-2013-7?r=US&IR=T&IR=T1 point -

Honestly, I don't buy the story, but posting pictures (even when freely available on the internet) is out of tone, even disgusting in the case of an older person. One thing is giving our opinions and a different thing is starting a witch hunt. I mean, its 2000$, I wouldn't get too protestantic over it.1 point

Exactly. There are only two possibilities IMHO: 1 - Somebody nasty who doesn't like or is envious of Saadawi Sr. is attempting to destroy his rep. Hence the arrogant confession message on facebook. 2 - It's his grandson who is behind all of this and Saadawi Sr. is protecting him despite his folly and will give him a good spanking behind closed doors. And for all the naysayers- he already said he plans to refund the people who lost money from his own pocket. What more do you want?!1 point -
