Hey guys First of all, really sorry for what has happened here. I'm still catching up on things, as I am literally in the middle of nowhere shooting in Italy. I am going to investigate at my end and be of any assistance the best I can. RedUser, DVXUser, perhaps we can all get together and share evidence. I'll return with a more detailed reply later. Incredible. I always had the impression Ebrahim Snr was the main user of the account, due to the impressive knowledge, warm and fairness of his comments. It really didn't match this 19 year old beginner/noob thing. Did Ebrahim really go to all this effort of posting very helpful information for 3 years - just to gain the trust of an online community and scam them for just a bit of money? Baffling. Absolutely baffling. I'd do this: 1. Submit a video message of yourself and your Grandfather together. 2. Submit some of your portfolio work and any proof of directing credits. 3. Submit any websites/imagery of your media company - behind the scenes? Projects? Anything? If I was convicted of being a scammer, I could do all the above in 20 minutes. It would go a long way to actually show us you're a genuine person who is in fact says who he is. Myself, like most other people, don't want to mix with anybody involved in criminal activity. All other forum topics are dying because of this thread being stuck at the top. I feel sorry for Andrew. It's not fair. Let's clean this up, nice and fairly, shall we?4 points -

So, he did this scam to help his sister, so she isn't punished, but now because a bunch of faceless people on an Internet forum have bullied him so much he admits to what he's done and tells everyone, on a public forum, that his "grandfather" frequents, that he did this scam to help his sister get an abortion. So in essence he just sent his sister to a public stoning... The same sister he was willing to scam for to protect... Okay...3 points

Short Film Festivals

This is a good list. And I would add the Phoenix Film Festival. It's a crime this festival isn't on that list, as a matter of fact. I've never seen anything like it. Filmmakers get multiple screenings (competition features screen at least three times), they've been attracting 23,000 festival goers each year, and the people who run are awesome. One of the few that truly make the filmmakers feel like the center of the festival. And the audiences are amazing. You will have people asking your cast for autographs and pictures, making them feel like Tom Cruise for a weekend. I had a feature there in 2013 and the festival was so much fun, I've gone back every year since -- wth or without a movie in the program. http://www.moviemaker.com/archives/best_of/50-film-festivals-worth-the-entry-fee-2016/ http://www.phoenixfilmfestival.com Here's a little video documenting my first year there that my buddy slammed together.3 points -

I can read arabic, even though my vocabulary is poor. But I have a lot of Egyptian friends who can read and understand a police report properly. That said nobody here believes there is a police report bro. Or a 1DC. Like others have said, you will feel better after confessing and making things aright with your victims. Then you can repent in prayer (if you do pray). If you are a muslim/ christian/ jew then you surely believe that the best lies and the most perfect scams are exposed in the eyes of God anyway. So be a man and quit this game- at least you can still recover some of your dignity this way.3 points -

Is it possible for the radiation of a old lens to resurrect a zombie thread?3 points -
This is getting boring now. The truth of the matter is this... ES LIED. The burden of proof is on him. And until he proves otherwise, which is actually quite simple. Show a video of the elder and younger ES and a copy of the Police Report that they have claimed to have filed. Until those simple deeds are done, all of the facts point that the elder ES does not exist in the capacity that was represented on this forum and ES needs to do the proper thing to make it right. Timotheus and Tomas trusted ES based upon his long track record and high rating on this site. If he was honest from the onset, his rating may have not been so high because his supposed resume wouldn't have led people to believe what he was preaching was a hundred percent accurate. Just because Timotheus and Tomas should not have fallen for the oldest African Western Union scam in the book, doesn't let ES off the hook. This is still a crime. Since ES is located in a 3rd world country with more problems to deal with than $600, there is little to be done to get there money back, unless ES does the admirable thing. Timotheus has already stated that he was contacted by ES to somehow make things right. Although I still highly doubt he has owned up to anything. If he does, great. That is the respectable, honorable and manly thing to do. He speaks of respect, let's see if he lives by those words. If anyone wants to believe his previous posts were "beautiful" by all means... Everyone is entitled to their opinion... I believe they are lies filled with half truths designed to uphold a fictitious persona. I believe the kid has mental issues and I wish him all the luck in the world. I would love to see his work with whatever camera he does actually own... It may be genius. For now, I'd rather go back to my theory that the elder and younger ES were abducted by the aliens that built the pyramids and after the prodding and probing they put alien filmmaker DNA into the grandson's body... But not enough money to afford the taxes for a 1dC.3 points

Don't beleive ES's lies. I gaurantee you he's not depressed or suicidal. He's just scared. He's just a guy that got caught who doesn't want to pay for the consequences of robbing innocent people. How I got scammed through "Ebrahim Saadawi"

And so again I go full circle. But not malicious, just retrospective. I had a simple idea, so many people talk about the contributions made by this individual and the stark contrast that is to the recent admission by a teenager. I just wanted to satisfy my own mind about these contributions so I did a quick search for duplicate content on the web. The first thing I learnt about digital marketing was that duplicate content is very bad. It is bad because it is unnatural to the search engines and this will be penalised in the serps, and thus, your website will not rank well. So I looked at old comments made by the user and, going back as far as 2015, many of the 'enlightening' post are in fact duplicated on multiple blogs and forums. Every opinion seems to be copied and pasted onto about 3 - 5 websites. Once the original post is made, it is repeated on other sites over the next few days. It is not a bot, but it is an individual who is not acting naturally, but unnaturally. Oh well, I guess we will never know for sure, but you have to be careful because this could be the tip of an iceberg of a community of forum users that build up reps to scam as a full time job. For Christs sake there are bitcoin mining factories in China, why the hell would it be less difficult to have a forum posting factory that snipes off people with a Red or lens here and there and then dumps the account. Isn't it weird that opinions given were almost like a school lecture, I mean, that is stuff you can easily write up from specs and watching reviews. Am I alone in thinking, if this is not the case, then the future is not looking good for forum scams? Dont we need to have a talk about this?2 points -

Since it's based off of the 5.5 micron design, without the EMCCD we'd see a base ISO of 200. But since the sensor has what they call "intra-scene switchable gain" (this happens in the analog realm, not digital like the ALEXA and BMDs), we would likely see a base ISO of ~1600 when using the intra-scene mode. In determining this, I'd basically have to find the operating point of the sensor to see what would give the most even distribution of dynamic range vs noise vs sensitivity. I agree QuantumFilm looks really good spec wise, but based on what they have built into the sensor, I think I'd want to change a few things because I'm a control freak with these kinds of things haha It's a shame that they aren't doing S16, S35 sized sensors. I think we'd actually try CMOS if it were QuantumFilm sensors.2 points

Ebrahim, if you are thinking of suicide, don't because that is silly and this is not that big a deal to anyone in this community. But you and your family need to sit down and have a talk, because our support does not matter. What matters is that your elders need to find you some kind of legal representation to guide you through paying the money back and to also find you counseling, like, tomorrow. Coming forward was the first step, but as an adult that is not enough. You need to follow through and make sure things do not get worse for you from a legal and mental perspective. Other than that, I wouldn't beat yourself up, we have all been there. I apologise if I was was unsympathetic to you, but I have lived in Africa for most of my life and WAAAY too much personal information has been revealed in this thread, so you guys have to be careful now. Even the authorities are not really the authorities, and I know you know what I mean by that. I hope you and your family recover from this horrible ordeal.2 points -

Except only things i lost was my time and hope to sell my gear locally. The only great thing about this topic is that community is reacted and trying to protect itself. Keep this topic and ask for confirmation of sending that rangefinder to anyone it was promised. Or everything that ull get will be another scam deal with the same rangefinder. And correct me if i wrong but here's a thing to keep in mind - in many eastern cultures its a honor to fool someone (just take a look at their childrens fairy tails). Short Film Festivals
Geoff CB and one other reacted to Zak Forsman for a topic
That's because most films that get fee waivers have been invited to submit -- either because the festival is familiar with the film already (because they saw it at another fest or its got a high profile for whatever reason), or it's from a filmmaker who the've programmed movies from in the past. That's why the odds are better. Now, knowing that, if you've got a short film and have never played a film festival before -- something to consider is choosing festivals you would want to build a relationship with. Imagine two filmmakers submitting to SXSW. One is a first time filmmaker submitting their very first feature. The other is also submitting their first feature, but they've also had three short films at SXSW over the last five years. If the festival programmers were split on these two hypothetical movies and their was only one slot left in the program, who do you think is getting in? Festivals love returning filmmakers. That being said, it never hurts to ask for a fee waiver. The worst they an say is "no".2 points -

So, you don't understand that by sending messages agreeing to a deal and giving instructions on how to pay for that deal, then receiving the money for that deal but knowingly not upholding your end of the deal is fraud and theft... Both considered crimes by every society in the civilized world since tribes were trading in cashews? You don't understand that? Seriously?! Close your eyes and put your grandfather on. Now open them so we can speak to your logical side.2 points

This kind of statement is proof why nobody believes you... You cannot even acknowledge that a crime took place. I think it would be a good time to show a copy of that police report. Good Camera for Stills (m43 or Nikon)?
Kurtisso and one other reacted to Zach Ashcraft for a topic
Honestly for product photos, lighting is everything. Lens choice is a close second. If I were in your shoes I'd probably lean towards Nikon - something like the D3300 is more than sufficient even as basic as it is. Combined with that Sigma glass and you should get great results. that being said - GX85 will more than get the job done as well, especially with that 12-35 you have. You might get more use out of this with video work too as stated by Mercer2 points -
For the people that got scammed this sucks and I'm sorry for your loss. On the bright side, this has been one of the most entertaining forum threads that I've ever read In my life LOL. I know this sounds like I'm a jerk(and I probably am), but I'm just being honest. This is becoming like a reality tv show LOL. Anyways, this whole thing is weird and I'm not completely buying that Egyptian doctors story. If his story was true, and if he cares about his name so much, and if he's rich, he should have refunded these people already. If this was done, this thread would have died a long time ago. Him leaving the EOSHD forum only benefits him and adds more question marks to his story. Also, him wanting to leave the forum without wanting to give refunds doesn't make sense. This is not sounding honorable to me at all. If you're a man of honor deal with your problems with the people that have been effected. Don't write a post to say where you live and to apologize to save your reputation. That's selfish and only thinking of yourself. Just PM the victims and pay them back; that's being a man of honor.2 points

I hope i am wrong again, however anyone thinking they are getting their money back is tripping. This is way deeper than we think. No 19yr old would bother with all this creation of accounts and characters etc. Why invent some grandfather who is the guru of cinema blah blah blah why not just claim yourself as the all knowing? Oh wow kid, your 'grandfather' knows camera, where does that get YOU in life? Nowhere. What is to gain from fabricating a person that is not yourself, they get all the kudos and youre just the kid. As others have said, get your iphone or similar and post a video of yourself (and the grandfather for shits and giggles) and explain the whole thing that way. As it stands for now, its not hard to invent a FB or IG account with photos and 'friends' etc in fact that is the simplest thing in the world to do! My dog has an IG account. Collecting money from WU under the name ES is a little trickier however, there is no reason that this isnt as popular as 'John Smith' in Egypt. Hell, if this is deeper than we think, the REAL ES may be a completely unknown victim of ID theft and not even remotely associated with this forum, cameras, or anything. ID theft is a huge problem around the world and seemily easy for plenty of people from developing nations to specialise in. Ed obviously feels he did wrong but I dont think you did wrong at all. If you did this to me (or my dog) and I was innocent, my friends and family who ACTUALLY know me would know within seconds that this was not true. I wouldnt even bother defending the charges. I think you missed the point. Well done.1 point

Some people seem to be able to consider these sorts of crimes soft. Its a faceless crime in many ways. The thing is, internet crime and this kind of theft is cowardly but just as harmful as having someone sneak into your house while you are sleeping and taking something from you. He may not have bonked you on the head and stolen something from you but he still stole something from you. Seriously, its on the news too often how many poor naive lonely usually elderly people are scammed in a similar way out of countless sums of money. Sure, some part of me thinks if youre naive enough to believe someone on the internet and give them all your money then what do you expect, but at the sametime on the other end is a sly scheming ripoff merchant who has premeditated the scam without issue. In this case that same person has then taunted the victims because they thought they would get away with it. As far as I can tell, the image we have of this guy might very well not even be who we are talking about. How deep does it go and across how many different platforms? The FB and IG accounts could be just as fake as anything else. Maybe I am a dick for believing in justice. Maybe if a 'kid' is taught a lesson early on, they might remember that kick in the arse and think twice about doing it again. He stole from people and taunted them about it with arrogance. I hope that it is not actually some kid in a jam who made a mistake and is now feeling like his world just ended because as I did say in an earlier post, the whole internet thing is not worth killing yourself over. I 100% promise every one of you that you are never likely to deal with ES in a professional fashion within the film industry and if you did, it wont be something that you remember and affect his career in any way. The internet never forgets as someone said just up there, but the internet is also the quickest medium for gratification and just like you swipe left and double tap, within seconds something else fills that little hollow space between your ears. I bet you cant even remember the name of the person who started this thread without looking at page one. People barely remember important milestones in history let alone some quick buck camera forum scam. For example; What year was Kennedy shot? What year did the Titanic sink? When did Princess Diana die? Who was Prime Minister of Australia 3yrs ago? Who owns the Star Wars franchise? What year did 911 happen? plenty of you and me will not know the answers to many of these questions off the top of our heads and these are SIGNIFICANT moments in history. ES is a teeny weeny nothing. A teeny weeny scam artist and fraudster but still nothing.1 point -
I don't think the court of public opinion is where this belongs and it is often wrong and there is too much emotion involved. I know it seems like I am attacking Ed, that is not really my intention. I think what he did was done with good intentions but is a dangerous precident to set. The internet is powerful and can be dangerous too the flow of this topic had already turned against ES before he every responded.1 point

I agree, it doesn't look good for him at all but what gives you the right to be judge, jury and executioner? I get what you are saying about moving fast before he can react but you also run the risk of crucifying an innocent victim too. Exactly this. Sociopaths are master manipulators and will say anything. That taunting message to one of the victims stands in stark contrast to the "apology". Many serial killers had families and/or were respected in their communities: Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, Gary Ridgeway, Dennis Rader, The Hillside Stranglers, etc. The insanity defense never works for them because they know the difference between right and wrong, and they don't care. They don't feel empathy for other people. They manipulate and use people. Con artists and compulsive liars share many personality traits with serial killers.1 point -

@veraguth, everyone's needs are different, I can cover most events with a 35/85 and a UWA, problem for me is in most cases I'm using FF for stills and s35 for video. So I'm carrying aps-c and FF lenses. I don't want to buy another A7rII + grip because Sony bodies lose their value so fast and the a6300 is not made for the hot Florida sun, making an all aps-c kit impossible. I don't shoot long continuous takes, so the 10 minute limit without the grip is no big deal, but the grip is almost always on my a7rII, that cost is a wash. New lens prices are a non issue for me, I buy all my lenses used and Fuji's can be found for about 25% below new easily. Like I said, I shoot events with zooms, while the GM's are impressive, after dumping Canon I'm not going back to carrying that much weight for hours on end anymore. Again, this is my own thing, but I'm getting ready to take a year off to travel the globe with my wife, so a smaller kit with better JPEG options is appealing to me. Looking forward to overheating tests and rolling shutter results. Cheers1 point

I made a grade for the 5550 version In DaVinci and next applied the same grade to the 5555 version. All I did to make up for the difference was adding an extra node to the left of the grade with saturation set to 75. Everything looks slightly more blue to me, as in hardly noticeable. The 5550 version without saturation adjustment. The 5550 version with saturation adjustment (from 50 to 35)1 point

Based on your guys highly valuable comments, here is another series. This time i compared STD -5/-5/-5/-5 with STD -5/-5/-5/0 to see how the image looks like with a "neutral" saturation. Lets start with the OOC shots (4K 25p): STD -5/-5/-5/-5 STD -5/-5/-5/0 And here is my grade: STD -5/-5/-5/-5 STD -5/-5/-5/0 My conclusions: I had to lower the saturation by 25% for STD -5/-5/-5/0 to avoid turning my skin orange. After that, both shots look pretty similar. The -5/-5/-5/-5 is a tad darker and the -5/-5/-5/0 offers more detail in the shadows, yet has a bit more noise (although not unpleasing). If wanted i can supply the video files as well.1 point
