Just read all todays madness Time out Please! ES needs to refund the 3 people involved in this matter , it's between him and them . Andrew is away filming and I don't think he will want an internet intervention lynching branded by EOSHD members when he has said if this is not resolved he will get the authorities involved. ES contact the three people involved , keep in regular contact with them and get on with the plan for refunding them in full with a realistic time frame they are happy with and stick to it. or you will be dealing with Andrew Reid direct.

This is the most sensible advice in this thread. Ed needs to relax, we all need to relax. And to be quite honest, I actually don't care about this all that much. The writer side of me has enjoyed the possible narratives but in the end this is just a big stupid scam and some people need to relax over it. This whole idea of occupy eoshd and involving some secret "anonymous" group is so utterly ridiculous, it almost makes ES's stories seem true. Part of me was interested in some version of the truth and hoped the kid would fess up, but the fact is the truth is pretty simple... It's a scam and the herd reaction of LoveFestEOSHD on one side and silly playground vendetta on the other is getting just as creepy as ES's persona. I enjoy this forum... But I definitely need a break from this bi-polar thread. And I really regret my part in it.

Not to put a downer on all this, but shouldn't you guys move off/away from this forum? This is Andrew's forum/blog, after all & he might not take too kindly to all of this. Remember that you might be dragging his name down with yours & this scammer. Have any of you checked to see what he thinks or what steps he is taking? Might be worth doing, before you rush headlong down this route. Just saying, because in the past he was quite quick to ban people for a lot less that what this kid has done & what you are doing.

Except the problem goes much deeper then this petty scam.. see the bigger problem is this kid has been compulsively lying to everybody in just about every forum post for the past 3 years. He's given false advice to possibly hundreds if not thousands of people (if you include lurkers). That type of behaviour is pretty unforgivable, he may have led people to loose thousands in wrong gear investment choices. The kid is an extensive compulsive liar and for that alone he certainly shouldn't be given a free pass to further contributions. The worst part is he is very convincing with his arguments which are often well thought and informed (he probably spends all his free time watching and comparing camera gear footage, reviews, vlogs and knows a thing or two about film stock thanks to grading with film emulations etc) and he enhances his conviction with casual mention of his decade spanning career in high budget film/TV/production work, name dropping Alexas, film stock and all kinds of bogus info to add credibility... Let me just illustrate you this with one example, a single post by ES with his Saadawi Senior Media empire CEO / hospital ER physician/ Senior PhD Radiologist hat on, giving advice to a hesitant C100 buyer :

I'm not trying to blow any smoke up my butt, but I have shot on film (very little) and I use the alexa and red and my sony f65 on all my jobs and I work on fairly higher-end commercials, budgets of probably 250k to 500k. And you are right - he gave a lot of bad information. But all of these forums do - reduser is notoriously bad for this. An incredible amount of nerds on there pretending they know a lot more than they do. The only forums you should really trust for actual advice is CML (cinematographers mailing list) and cinematography.com and Roger Deakins - this has real DPs on there like David Mullen, Geoff Boyle, and plenty more members of the ASC, AFC, CSC, etc. I'm on this forum because I like you guys and I like seeing where this small tech is going. It's fun stuff and useful tools for newer applications. But, if you are making buying choices based on this guy - it sucks, but it's really on you. As I say, again and again, you need to do your own tests. Camera tests, lighting tests, lens tests. I know most of you say you don't have money for this - but filmmaking is expensive as hell and you can rent from lensrentals and borrowlenses, or get the production you are working on to do the test. With that said, I bought a dvx100 in 2004 or whenever when I first started out based on the recommendation of a juggler extra in a CBS documentary. So I was just buying on a whim. I didn't look at tests or charts. But please, don't listen to someone who says, " it's super cinematic like Sonys but not filmic." - WHAT THE BEJESUS does that mean? Cinematic but not filmic? If someone talks, make sure they have tests and charts and test video - and then think about it, and make your own conclusions. Scamming someone of money is similar to scamming someone of judgement - and this ES guy definitely is guilty of both. But like ES said when he gloated - it's on you and you're an idiot if you play into it. ES is trying to teach you guys a lesson - that he's a genius and you are idiots. I'm extremely excited for his excuse tomorrow of why his mother couldn't deliver the package, or that the package was mailed to the wrong place and now he has to track it down, or some other great genius lie he'll come up with. And I'm sure ES is very excited that I'm going to get not myself, but the entire community on here to instagram his friends and family. I will give a VIDEO tutorial of how to do it on your computer. I feel like if 20 people contacted me about my friend about him owing $1000 to people in an international scam, I may actually start to believe the person telling me this. I'm also going to ask my friends at anonymous to start helping. They may laugh at me, or they may think it's pretty funny to f* with ES. We will see ES what they will do.

This whole thread is absolutely ridiculous. First of all you are the most naive people I have ever seen. All saying Ebrahim was amazing, and even a friend. It has always been clear to me that this guy is a pure lier, spending his time advising people based on research saying he used the gear when he did not. I have had a couple of debates in some threads with him and this was clear as water. Then the scam thing. I have to say all this drama has been a refreshing change from the constant posts about motion cadence recently The idea of a short film about this is also interesting. We could each shoot a scene for the film. And the constant changing of locations etc in each scene could be tied into how the protagonist has a multiple personality disorder or something.

Do you need 4K? Do you need slow motion (beyond 1080 60fps that is)? No? If so, then get a Sony PMW-F3. Goes for next to nothing secondhand. I own one, will be shooting a feature film this year with it (hopefully with two at once if we can squeeze buying a 2nd F3 into the budget). Get these lenses (all in Nikon F mount of course): Tokina 11-20mm f2.8 Tokina 28-70mm f2.8 Tokina 80-200mm f2.8 Nikon 50mm f1.8D (could swap out for the Sigma 18-35mm f.18 & Sigma 50-100mm f1.8 pair, but would cost quite a lot more, but either choice is reasonable) You might think you've got plenty left in your $8K budget... but with tripod/recorder/media/accessories/audio/lighting/etc... that will very quickly disappear! If you do "need" 4K or slow motion, then get a secondhand Sony FS700 instead. Third camera I'll mention to consider, is the BMD Micro Cinema Camera, is a wonderful little beast (like a BMPCC v2.0!).

Ebrahim Saawadi came back firstly to try to throw off suspicion, and then to try to throw people off his back when he started to see some real world ramifications for his crimes. He used this forum in a terrible way. He is not one of us, and he is not our friend.

As for myself, I can wait a couple days to receive a payment. If I don't, I already have my legal documents together with all of his information/scanned ID, written confession, and handwritten confirmation. I will take it to the authorities if he tries to keep my money.

I do not feel like screaming it through the vast number of posts. It is not a pleasure I want to learn to find. Anyway, leaving it to the authorities is the legally right procedure in this regards matter, involving the account ES, the scam victims, the forum posters and not least of all Andrew! Andrew suggested that as well to leave it to authorities!

This is a very good point, it is a shame that Andrew has not been able to be more involved in this from the beginning. I personally have no intention participating in what is coming, it is not something that is in my nature or that I necessarily agree with, this is sound advice for anyone thinking about going along with Ed's plan.

Also, some advice to the financially scammed... DO NOT AGREE TO HAVE HIM SEND THE RANGEFINDER BY HIS MOTHER... This is just another stall tactic and con. He thinks if his mother, or whoever this person is, sends the actual rangefinder then his name won't appear on the post, which is an admission of guilt. Since he doesn't believe the Internet is part of the real world and sees it as a fantasy land, he doesn't think any of this is incriminating, but if he physically sends the rangefinder then he will be culpable for his actions. DO NOT TRUST HIM. @Ed_David of course anybody who buys something solely on one person's opinion on a forum is wrong, but so is sending money to some guy in Egypt via Western Union and you are more than willing to go all Alinsky on him for that, but spreading misinformation or at best plagiarized and copy and pasted posts to prop a false persona that was devised to create a scam isn't worthy of your time or concern? You see this is the part I am having trouble with. There are a ton of members and just casual readers that come to this site for information. A lot of times the validity of that information may lead to an expensive purchase. ES spoke with an authoritative voice backed up by the highest site rating (other than Andrew Reid) People trusted him and people were misled by his fraudulent posts. And he still refuses to answer the most basic of questions regarding g his history on this site. I really hope that Andrew completes a thorough investigation of not only ES's IP address, but also his activity as a forum member. As I have said before, I think there are other aliases ES may have used to help prop himself up and in turn he probably used his own "reputation" to prop up other posters... So I would be very interested to know who received a lot of likes from ES... Was there a pattern and a few "members" received the lion share of his fraudulent praise?

I thought I did read in a recent post that Zach was banned, but I sort of thought it was an off-handed joke, not really the truth. Truly, his worst sin, if you even want to call it that, was that he was wildly naive and earnest; dash in a heap of ignorance. Also, I just spoke to SLR Magic - and they are totally cool to have their product featured in the film. I also got the life rights for the film from ES - only cost me $250! And come on, international criminal - come on man - we are in the middle of a peace negotiation and hostage exchange - you do not start insulting the person you are trying to make a deal with during the deal. EOSHD peeps: I have sorted out some payment issues with Ebrahim Saawadi, and the other guys came to an agreement. This was one hell of a thread folks. Lots of mystery and confusion, and a lot of creative stories. I hope I get my money back as soon as possible. I have a hand written letter confirming that he will, in fact, pay me what he owns me. We can drop it. Everyone will get their payments, and E.S. owned up to the dilemma. That's it. What a crazy thread.

you should also take in consideration the motion cadence or the rolling shutter which is so different on these to cameras. Micro being more organic and filmic. On the other hand NX1 got a hack recently and the DR gain a bit haveing more details in the shadows and almost no bending. Also people are working on a speed bosster adapter but nothing is confirmed yet. Although it is a dead system, people are still working on improving it. For me NX1 could be the best compromise if you want good stills and strong video. The only thing you have to work around is the rolling shutter. Choose wise.

I think a critical request is missing here. As crazy as this all seems - there is still a chance that "Ebrahim Sadaawi" could of been robbed on the street and someone is "playing" him without his knowledge. He could of been kidnapped for all we know. Maybe not. One thing that would put the theories to rest would be a genuine video message from ES to EOSHD, about what has happened and what he is doing/has done to fix the situation. He's making films and has made his own lights, so he's fully capable of doing this right? And it would take about half an hour tops? My opinion: He's a clever kid whose made a big mistake, and also needs to see a Doctor as soon as possible. Video message though?

I for one have been been advocating for some restraint and have been criticial of Ed in the past in how he delt with ES. I am a flawed person and have made mistakes so it is easier for me to empathize with people who show the same and I am often willing to give the benifit of the doubt, put myself in their shoes and think about what I might have done. If it was me being handed a second chance to make things right and even very generously been handed money to pay off my debts there is no way I would not have made it to the post office to ship the package, come hell or high water I would have been there before they opened banging on the door to let me in. If the link about the post office is accurate then there really is only one logicial conclusion. Ed it is your call, you will recieve no more critizm from me on what you decide to do (within the realms of social media anyway). At this point he knows full well what he can expect from you and he is making his choice. Ebrahim if I were you I would play your next moves very carfully.

It is pretty effin interesting when you read how well Old ES wrote in English compared to Young ES.

The AF100 with an external recorder was the a-camera on The Raid: Redemption, an absolutely kick ass movie I don't recall a single person critiquing for its visuals. Learn your way around it and you'll be fine.

Hey, Bought my AF100 a few mounts ago. Just finished rigging it. And just got a used Atomos Samurai (not the blade version). The AF100 is a tricky camera. It is easy to use, but you have to master the settings to get the best image out of it. I cannon recommend enough the AF100 book. The package I got was AF100 + Panasonic 7-14/4 + Panasonic 14-140/4-5.6 + 2 batteries and a dead cheap SD Card (which is now stuck in the SD slot) for 1300€ The best thing about this camera is that it is ready to shoot run & gun. No need for external power, recorders or rig for handheld stuff.

If its a desktop, you can get a Mac Pro with a 4k monitor in the same price range. The 5k iMacs have a fan that I found annoying, if you're editing/rendering video or anything else that's processor intensive its on a lot. They also get really hot because there's so little space for air to move. You can get a 6-core with the dual 3gb graphics cards for $3400 from the refurb store. I have the same matching, bumped RAM to 64gb and it plows through everything. Plus you get more ports and its whisper quiet, it sits on my desk next to my monitor and I never hear it.
