How I got scammed through "Ebrahim Saadawi"
IronFilm and 2 others reacted to IshootbeforeItalk for a topic
I'm planning to sell this for EU 500 and split the amount with Tim, only because Ebrahim can't afford to repay us directly. This is a coulance/leniency, because we could've just forced him to repay us all. The extra tax will come out of his pocket. So no yapping here. Just stating facts. James, Tim and I are walking away without any loss. I'm just being clear about it upfront.3 points -

A7s Sensor Size?
sudopera and one other reacted to Brian Caldwell for a topic
Thanks Ebrahim. As always, your contributions here are extremely helpful. What you are reporting is what I suspected, but its really nice to get confirmation like this since I don't have the camera myself. FWIW, I am doing research for a product, but its for a system of anamorphic lenses and not a fullframe Speed Booster, which may not be what you were hoping for but which I promise will be very cool.2 points -

Nobody is depending on it. Being the best apsc camera (and sensor) around, possibly for years to come, it's nice to see a speedbooster for it. Especially when many were uncorrectly reporting that it was not feasible. Biases are bad things ;-)2 points -
After 4 days of comparisons I decided to let t my a6300 go and keep the GX85.I had the the a6300 since March so I'm aware of its advantages but decided IBS,touch screen and affordable lenses were more important than great CAF,S-log and a microphone input.I simply like the image and colors of the GX85 better,no it's not as detailed as the A6300 but it has a certain magic to it.Also I was rather surprised by the GX85 photo quality which has greatly improved since last time I owned a panasonic camera, the famous GH2. I came to my final decision to keep the Panny after my A6300 kept overheating while at the Museum with my kids.I wasn't doing long takes just 40 sec clips and taking photos smh. I hope Panasonic oneday adds Phase Detection AF and a Mic input to a camera of this form factor and stability,a log profile wouldn't hurt either. @jase Nice footage indeed!2 points

My first project with the GX80. Since size / weight does matter and securities are kinda picky, i had no choice but to leave my lovely Voigtländer 25 lens at home and put the Panasonic 20mm on it. I had mixed feelings especially I did not use this lens for a very long time but in the end, I am satisfied with the result. Grading was a breeze, skin tones need little to no adjustment and also this lens works quite well with the Tiffen Ultra Contrast Filter.2 points

A7s Sensor Size?
Pavel Mašek reacted to Brian Caldwell for a topic
Thanks in advance if anybody can help me track down the following information. I need to know the exact dimensions of the 16x9 video frame used by the Sony A7s-II in both 4k and 2k video modes. All that I'm confident about are the following: 1) full still sensor size measures 35.8mm x 23.9mm 2) full sensor resolution in still mode is 4240 x 2832. 3) 1 and 2 together imply a pixel dimension of approximately 8.44 microns square 4) 4k video resolution is 3840 x 2160. SO: does this mean that the rectangle of sensor area used during 4k recording is 32.41mm x 18.23mm? Similarly, what would be the as-used sensor dimension when shooting 4k in "full-frame" mode?1 point -

What gave it away? I shot it slog3 and massage it in resolve with dread as we all know stories of ugly color and thought that it looked good and neutral... Also I was hand holding a kowa prominar in front of a 24mm lens and with the Sony zoom at 1.3 with minimal vignetting.1 point -

I've shot retail product (primarily apparel and jewelry, with various consumer and tech products) for close to 20 years, back to the film days with 4x5" Ektachrome. Done stuff for Neiman-Marcus, JCPenney, Blockbuster video, all sorts of manufacturers and wholesalers, and on and on. My thoughts: Even if "just for the web", shoot full rez and raw. Doing minor fixes or going pure-white on the BG is easier at big sizes. In your bid, note that you'll shoot full print size and archive for future use. You never know when someone will decide to do a flyer or a print ad. With a modern 20+ MP stills cam, you can shoot for billboards. Having shift and tilt is nice for product shooting. If this is a one-off deal, I wouldn't worry about it. I don't do as much product as I did in the past and haven't needed it - I still have a big camera stand which to me is more important, esp. in the digital days. Lighting is more important. A soft box, white reflectors, and a7" and 11" grid head (to "raise" detail in folded soft goods or add sparkle to jewelry) is a basic starting point. If you're doing more of a still-life look or food, grids and even tungsten lights can play a bigger role in sort of a "heightened beauty" look. You really want complete control for each light, either by individual controls or with a symmetrical/asymmetrical pack or nets and ND. (As for tilt-shift - I've built a tilt rig to use Mamiya 645 lenses on a Nikon camera... still need to get a lens and complete it...) I'm a Nikon fan for this work, especially since Nikkors can go on all sorts of modern cameras for video, and there are decades of classic glass out there used for someone starting. You don't need AF or OIS for this stuff. I'd look at a used/refurbed D7100 - really great stills image and nice video. I cite the 7100 since it was the first Nikon to lose the OLPF (low-pass filter). I'd say a camera without OLPF is a primary consideration; as a product and corporate people shooter, it was really a new era in fine detail. To my eyes this was a big game changer - the leap in IQ from the 7000 to the 7100 was pretty astounding to me. (I'm sure there's Canon stuff that's equally good - when Digital first gained acceptance, I delivered many shots from an Olympus P&S for no-rental-budget clients - it was the first full-manual consumer digital with a strobe connection that saved uncompressed TIFFs - six to a card! Each shot took 20 seconds to write to disc... but the IQ was badass). (This when renting a pro digital stills cam was a pricey affair). There must be a zillion product shooting tutorials on the web - check them out, but avoid any "light-tent" style setups - you do want a sense of directionality to the light, to make things look three dimensional, vs. just-plain-flat. Film, no photoshop: Nikon, 50mm lens. Silly Olympus P&S:1 point

Paired with the right lens there shouldnt be too much difference between m43 and FF, but everyone as he likes I just would not invest that money into an a7 body if i knew that i also want to use it a lot for video.1 point

Yet if you have 600 bucks to spend for a body, I would go the GX85 route and use the rest (maybe plus a little add) for a cheap focal reducer et voila, you got your background blurs while having a better camera for video.1 point

Thanks. I was definitely taking in mumblecore films at the time I made it (2009) but I was more influenced by Wes Anderson, Noah Baumbach and Jim Jarmusch. It was shot on a Panasonic DVX100 (original model, not a or b). I may have to buy that pic profile. I'll probably give Magic Lantern Cinestyle a shot first, and if I'm not satisfied I'll buy Kendy's.1 point -

What can Canon be thinking?
DBounce reacted to BrooklynDan for a topic
After spending several months servicing both Canon and Sony cameras at a rental house, Canon's decisions are starting to make sense to me. While they clearly follow a strict marketing playbook and parse out features according to what they perceive as end user needs (like giving LOG to their cinema cameras only), they do spend they time and effort to provide a quality product that lasts. Sony just tends to cram in as much processing power as possible without considering how it might best be used. The FS5 for example cannot output via SDI during 4K recording. The signal just cuts out, so you're pretty screwed if you're using an on-board monitor. The FS7 must be manually switched between SDI and HDMI. It won't do both at the same time. The menus on the Canons are quick and responsive. The ones on the FS7 lag and make you wait for every setting. Takes 25 minutes to upload new firmware. The FS5 is constantly repairing it's image database. And all Sonys are incredibly touchy when it comes to folder structure on the memory cards. God forbid you put in a memory card you used on a different camera, and the Sony won't even be able to access the card in order to format it. I've also gone on and on about how poorly they're built. The C100 and C300 come with a crisp magnesium chassis that is impervious to dents, dirt and scrapes. So while you might not be getting the 4K resolution and high frame rates that you might feel are necessary, you are getting a solid tool that will last long beyond product cycles. Arri brings the same philosophy which is why Oscar-winning movies keep being shot on Alexas, shot in 2.8K. Solid quality over flashy specs.1 point -
I prefer the cleaner kit lens look as I don't want the cinematic look. It can be made wider with a step up ring and Ricoh GW-1, which works surprising well and changes it from 12mm to 9.5mm. I usually use a longer lens but the 12-32 is so small it is always worth taking along.1 point

I used to get a shallow DOF with the DVX all the time, never needed a 35mm adapter: https://vimeo.com/63615369 Sometimes I miss using camcorders and "just getting it done", but I think what I really miss is being 19 and making random movies on the weekends with friends, wanting to be a filmmaker, but not worrying about being professional. I would invite friends over with no idea, then we'd just whip something up, sometimes even staying up all night making multiple films. But most of those are terrible. I made maybe two that I think are still kind of funny and entertaining now. I put out far less work now, but I think it's much better than what I did a decade ago. I hope the new generations are just getting it done and not worrying too much about the best lenses and how many stops of DR they have.1 point -

Liam reacted to BrorSvensson for a topic
Im probably the only one on this forum that uses a Sony A7 to film videos, if you want to check out some samples you can watch my 5 latest videos https://www.youtube.com/user/4cfingers/videos I really like the camera with the headphone and mic jack, the 1080p 60 is decent and for me personally good enough for youtube. DR with portrait -3 contrast is similar to the 5d with -5 contrast. I shoot 50% stills and 50% and i think its a very versitile camera when using manual lenses, its easy to focus with the beautiful and sharp EVF. The A7r and A7 have nearly identical video performance.1 point -
Whatever it is, I think the look is working against them - cartoony, bright colors - no it shouid be crappier looking - iphone-ish style - it's also lit too well - it should have been underexposed - more doc style man I should make my own found footage horror film1 point

Thanks man, that means a lot! Hehe, I don't know about lessons but I can tell how I grade with Color Finale. I'm still learning too. I guess you have you seen Denver's tutorials? I didn't use any LUT as I was going for a natural look and I think most LUT's are too stylized. Some LUT's can be good for a base grade though. I used Standard 0, -5, -5, 0 with WB set to Sunny, which was to blue for my taste. I didn't set A3G3 as in my test it made a white wall yellow. I have to test more in different settings, but for now I prefer to fine tune WB in post. Most shots were f/1.4 btw. In Color Finale I first add Color Wheels and adjust exposure looking at the RGB parade. Then I add another Color Wheels and set saturation, in this case 1,1. Mostly I raise it between 1,0 and 1,1 or don't touch it at all, and a few rare times I lower it a bit. Then I add a third Color Wheels and adjust gain to set WB, which is a little tricky as you probably know. Usually it is enough to adjust the gain, but sometimes I also adjust gamma and lift, although not in this video. The last thing I did was to add Curves and pull down the shadows in the blue channel. This really helped getting that warm feeling. So basically I adjust exposure and WB using 3 x Color Wheels, and fine tune with curves and vectors if needed. The reason I use 3 Color Wheels is to see what every little adjustment does so It's easier to go back and forth. Here's before and after:1 point

My group has a G30 and XA25. I will be shooting some instructional material with the G30 tomorrow, just because it's easy. We usually use larger-sensor cameras but cameras like these are very nice for certain things. They are straightforward to use, relatively inexpensive, and have superb stabilization. Battery life is good, they don't have a 29 min. recording limit and they don't overheat. An experienced operator can get good looking content. When you consider how much material has been shot with the AG-DVX100 tape-based DV camcorder (including Oscar-nominated documentaries) and how superior modern HD camcorders like the G40 are, you might think why would anyone want anything else. The answer is despite the advantages it doesn't have that lush cinematic look of a higher-end large sensor camera, and doesn't do well in low light. Unlike a decade ago when DV was a common doc format, today even a well-operated entry-level DSLR can produce cinematic-looking material. Viewers come to expect that, whether they can verbalize it or not.1 point

Unfortunately, Ebrahim, when you chose to steal from other people, you risked ruining your reputation. I think this thread should remain on the forum, but locked, onced the matter is resolved. You are only refunding these people (if you actually do) because of the pressure brought upon you by this thread. If the OP had not started it, you might have been tempted to scam more people, given your previous success. You are a criminal because you have stolen from (at least) three people and you are a liar because you have lied repeatedly and continuously. These are not desirable characteristics for a Dentist starting out on his career and now future employers will be able to see how untrustworthy you are. Guys. A few deep breaths might be helpful. Believe me, I am as angry as anyone here and I want to be compensated. Ebrahim has committed himself to do something about that in the coming day, and providing evidence of it. We shall see about that quickly enough. Regardless, there is the issue of proportionality one how one should respond, certainly if you're not directly affected. Who decides what the 'punishment' should be and who should deliver it? I think @dhessel made some similar remarks. I feel this community (and it's administrators) can decide how to deal with the situation here. Whether that means a ban or keeping this thread on the site can be debated. Reaching out to a large pool of strangers (Ebrahim's contacts) and dragging them into this mess might be a bit much at this point, though. But that's just my 2 cents ... Emanuel, he's probably an undiagnosed pathological or compulsive liar. This is a real, medical condition. I'm sure the sister's story is false. But that doesn't mean we can now keep attacking him while he is in a very fragile emotional state. Yes he brought this upon himself by stealing thousands of dollars, but now, we can get, without the corrupt Egyptian police the end goal : money back to those he scammed. Isn't that the end goal? Or do you want to see him rot in an Egyptian jail? Or get disavowed from his family. Use empathy. Understand he's in Egypt, they have a different set of rules. How would you feel if he killed himself? Or went to jail? Would you feel better? No, revenge is fleeting. At first it feels great, but then after a while, you feel like a D-bag and regret what you did when you were younger.1 point

Incredible. I always had the impression Ebrahim Snr was the main user of the account, due to the impressive knowledge, warm and fairness of his comments. It really didn't match this 19 year old beginner/noob thing. Did Ebrahim really go to all this effort of posting very helpful information for 3 years - just to gain the trust of an online community and scam them for just a bit of money? Baffling. Absolutely baffling. I'd do this: 1. Submit a video message of yourself and your Grandfather together. 2. Submit some of your portfolio work and any proof of directing credits. 3. Submit any websites/imagery of your media company - behind the scenes? Projects? Anything? If I was convicted of being a scammer, I could do all the above in 20 minutes. It would go a long way to actually show us you're a genuine person who is in fact says who he is. Myself, like most other people, don't want to mix with anybody involved in criminal activity. All other forum topics are dying because of this thread being stuck at the top. I feel sorry for Andrew. It's not fair. Let's clean this up, nice and fairly, shall we?1 point -

Hello, I`m new to this forum, but a long term reader, because it is the best forum for information about NX1 (which I own). The Fuji got my interest for its pleasing colours. I downloaded two original files from http://www.dkamera.de/news/preview-beispielaufnahmen-der-fujifilm-x-t2/ and discovered, that the codec implemantation may not be very good. It uses a "High L5.1" variation of mp4 at 102 Mbps with no CABAC and no B-frames unlike for example Sony RX100IV etc. One I-frame followed by 30 P-frames according to mediainfo and avidemux. Just like smartphones, but at a higher bitrate.1 point -
