Just wrapped our music video shoot with the 1DC using Leica R glass. I directed and had an amazing DP here in Nashville shoot it. He never used the camera before and wasn't used to the full frameish image and got too close to our actor while she was swinging an axe and it put a gash on his head. Blood spewed everywhere but he was ok. Paramedics took him to the hospital and thankfully he only needed a few stitches and was fine. We still were able to finish up the shoot with me operating and having our gaffer also be a DP today. Excited to show you guys the final product. Lots of VFX in this one so it'll be a while in post. 1DC was a champ with the exception of one of the duclos modded lenses (the 24mm). The lens element went too far back and would jam the mirror on the 1dc which caused an error. An issue never faced with an actual "video" camera. Basically we had to take the lens off, then turn on the camera, then go into live view mode... Then put on the lens. Other than that the camera worked great. Plus the weather sealing really helped protect the camera from all the blood! ............. some images from our shoot below: Here is all the blood on the camera. Here is all the blood after I wiped it up this morning...2 points

So I had a good run with the camera today and I am pretty pleased with it. The 5-Axis is almost steady cam level... Not quite because I don't want to over play it, but I was able to track with my actor pretty darn well. Here's my first attempt at trying to color some c-log... And here is my graded version.2 points -
How I got scammed through "Ebrahim Saadawi"
IronFilm and one other reacted to IshootbeforeItalk for a topic
I'm planning to sell this for EU 500 and split the amount with Tim, only because Ebrahim can't afford to repay us directly. This is a coulance/leniency, because we could've just forced him to repay us all. The extra tax will come out of his pocket. So no yapping here. Just stating facts. James, Tim and I are walking away without any loss. I'm just being clear about it upfront.2 points -
Thanks man, that means a lot! Hehe, I don't know about lessons but I can tell how I grade with Color Finale. I'm still learning too. I guess you have you seen Denver's tutorials? I didn't use any LUT as I was going for a natural look and I think most LUT's are too stylized. Some LUT's can be good for a base grade though. I used Standard 0, -5, -5, 0 with WB set to Sunny, which was to blue for my taste. I didn't set A3G3 as in my test it made a white wall yellow. I have to test more in different settings, but for now I prefer to fine tune WB in post. Most shots were f/1.4 btw. In Color Finale I first add Color Wheels and adjust exposure looking at the RGB parade. Then I add another Color Wheels and set saturation, in this case 1,1. Mostly I raise it between 1,0 and 1,1 or don't touch it at all, and a few rare times I lower it a bit. Then I add a third Color Wheels and adjust gain to set WB, which is a little tricky as you probably know. Usually it is enough to adjust the gain, but sometimes I also adjust gamma and lift, although not in this video. The last thing I did was to add Curves and pull down the shadows in the blue channel. This really helped getting that warm feeling. So basically I adjust exposure and WB using 3 x Color Wheels, and fine tune with curves and vectors if needed. The reason I use 3 Color Wheels is to see what every little adjustment does so It's easier to go back and forth. Here's before and after:2 points

How I got scammed through "Ebrahim Saadawi"
Zach Ashcraft and one other reacted to DevonChris for a topic
Unfortunately, Ebrahim, when you chose to steal from other people, you risked ruining your reputation. I think this thread should remain on the forum, but locked, onced the matter is resolved. You are only refunding these people (if you actually do) because of the pressure brought upon you by this thread. If the OP had not started it, you might have been tempted to scam more people, given your previous success. You are a criminal because you have stolen from (at least) three people and you are a liar because you have lied repeatedly and continuously. These are not desirable characteristics for a Dentist starting out on his career and now future employers will be able to see how untrustworthy you are. You brought this upon yourself and risked a huge amount.2 points -
GH4 Timelapse from Norway

Hello everyone! Few days ago I finished editing my last short timelapse video. I put a ton of work into this (shot last year, edited in 9 months, just because I couldn't focus on in completely). Edited in ACR and Premiere Pro. Opening title in AE. Please read the video's description for camera info. Almost every shot is done in silent/electronic shutter mode, works like a charm for timelapses. I have some complaints about camera, I'll post it if anyone will be interested, but other than that, it is a great little tool!1 point -

Lenses
BrorSvensson reacted to Nikkor for a topic
Hey bror, I like the idea of a 105 1.4 lens, but let's face it, imho most 35mm lenses faster than 1.8 are sort of pointless because they aren't good enough to resolve fine detail on medium distances, and on close distances anything faster than 1.8 is total overkill. And yes, for wedding photographers the fuzzines/softness of 1.2 35mm lenses can be a plus. My very personal view on the whole fast expensive 35mm lens thing is that for the money you need to buy a good 35mm setup ( 105 1.4 is 2000$ plus another 1500$ for the camera body) I can buy a used mediumformat backand it's going to look way better.1 point -

I was given the same advice from a festival programmer who recommended I cut my stuff down. But festivals are just one route. There are lots of online venues. You're right, but it's also the filmmaker's job to do research into the festival. Eh, forget the AF100. Get an XC10 or a C100. Also, get a book on the aesthetics of color grading. What can Canon be thinking?
kaylee reacted to Michael Ma for a topic
Remember when the consumers strong-armed Canon to put 24p on the 5D Mark II via a firmware update? That's one for the books. At least we have that. I guess what I want really is a 1Dc Mark II, in a 5D body with C-Log at 5D prices. It almost sounds unreasonable but what I'm asking for is mostly a 5D with a color profile. Considering that Canon is gonna make it probably impossible for the 5D Mark IV to be hacked, it seems like even less capable than the 5D Mark III. That's the problem.1 point -
I've shot retail product (primarily apparel and jewelry, with various consumer and tech products) for close to 20 years, back to the film days with 4x5" Ektachrome. Done stuff for Neiman-Marcus, JCPenney, Blockbuster video, all sorts of manufacturers and wholesalers, and on and on. My thoughts: Even if "just for the web", shoot full rez and raw. Doing minor fixes or going pure-white on the BG is easier at big sizes. In your bid, note that you'll shoot full print size and archive for future use. You never know when someone will decide to do a flyer or a print ad. With a modern 20+ MP stills cam, you can shoot for billboards. Having shift and tilt is nice for product shooting. If this is a one-off deal, I wouldn't worry about it. I don't do as much product as I did in the past and haven't needed it - I still have a big camera stand which to me is more important, esp. in the digital days. Lighting is more important. A soft box, white reflectors, and a7" and 11" grid head (to "raise" detail in folded soft goods or add sparkle to jewelry) is a basic starting point. If you're doing more of a still-life look or food, grids and even tungsten lights can play a bigger role in sort of a "heightened beauty" look. You really want complete control for each light, either by individual controls or with a symmetrical/asymmetrical pack or nets and ND. (As for tilt-shift - I've built a tilt rig to use Mamiya 645 lenses on a Nikon camera... still need to get a lens and complete it...) I'm a Nikon fan for this work, especially since Nikkors can go on all sorts of modern cameras for video, and there are decades of classic glass out there used for someone starting. You don't need AF or OIS for this stuff. I'd look at a used/refurbed D7100 - really great stills image and nice video. I cite the 7100 since it was the first Nikon to lose the OLPF (low-pass filter). I'd say a camera without OLPF is a primary consideration; as a product and corporate people shooter, it was really a new era in fine detail. To my eyes this was a big game changer - the leap in IQ from the 7000 to the 7100 was pretty astounding to me. (I'm sure there's Canon stuff that's equally good - when Digital first gained acceptance, I delivered many shots from an Olympus P&S for no-rental-budget clients - it was the first full-manual consumer digital with a strobe connection that saved uncompressed TIFFs - six to a card! Each shot took 20 seconds to write to disc... but the IQ was badass). (This when renting a pro digital stills cam was a pricey affair). There must be a zillion product shooting tutorials on the web - check them out, but avoid any "light-tent" style setups - you do want a sense of directionality to the light, to make things look three dimensional, vs. just-plain-flat. Film, no photoshop: Nikon, 50mm lens. Silly Olympus P&S:1 point

Canon XC10 versus Sony RX10 III. The Canon is underrated!
MattH reacted to tomsemiterrific for a topic
The XC10 can use Canon's wide angle lens (WD-H58W wide converter lens) mounted on the XC10 lens. It's not all that heavy, easy to use, and you're only going to put it on for wide angle, so lugging it around on the camera won't wear you out. I use it when I want wide angle shots and it works very well. The downside is the H58W doesn't have threads for a Variable ND. Still, with just the XC10s internal ND you can get the vast number of your wide angle shots without clipping highlights--especially if you shoot in Log. I actually took an 80mm variable ND which, as chance would have it fit snuggly over the H58W with only a bit of tape inside of the rim of the Vari ND. Using it on the end of the H58W it works great in the harshest sun the light is easily controlled and you never clip. Once I'm done with my wide angle shots I simply take the lens off and shoot the rest.1 point -
Well, I just called my local camera store and ordered a XC10 (I try to buy local as much as I can, as we only have one decent camera store). They were a bit like 'you're sure you want one of those' so the initial bad reviews have certainly made their mark. I am now in a bizarre situation where the largest sensor I own, is in my smallest camera (a ricoh GR).1 point

After 4 days of comparisons I decided to let t my a6300 go and keep the GX85.I had the the a6300 since March so I'm aware of its advantages but decided IBS,touch screen and affordable lenses were more important than great CAF,S-log and a microphone input.I simply like the image and colors of the GX85 better,no it's not as detailed as the A6300 but it has a certain magic to it.Also I was rather surprised by the GX85 photo quality which has greatly improved since last time I owned a panasonic camera, the famous GH2. I came to my final decision to keep the Panny after my A6300 kept overheating while at the Museum with my kids.I wasn't doing long takes just 40 sec clips and taking photos smh. I hope Panasonic oneday adds Phase Detection AF and a Mic input to a camera of this form factor and stability,a log profile wouldn't hurt either. @jase Nice footage indeed!1 point

@mercer With the hoop, It is one node making the difference with an almost inverted S Curve. Then putting that layer in layer mode Hard Light in the edit section of Davinci. To make the hula hoop more intense in its luminousity I stapled the same layer on top of one another, four times. I remember your 35-70 video, had super beautiful greens in it:) Have four FDs, the 50mm 1.4 I almost never used, 28mm most of the time, got a 20mm 2.8 like brandnew. At first he told me (see previous post), but since then nothing. I also tried to contact him privately on dpreview.com but even there he did not answer. I continue with my work, however, it goes very well, I hope to have a pre-set ready by the beginning of August for the NX-Nikon adapter system, which, in addition to providing me different information on the operation of SB lenses, it is cheap compared to an intelligent system. I can say with certainty is that the system is very sharp, and coupled with fast lens offers a beautiful Boke.

I didn't ruin ES's life and career. I threatened to. There is a difference. I wasn't asking for a pat on the back, anonymous person. And you know, I have been scammed before. I lost $2000 when I was younger. And back then, I would have died to have an older, crazier person whose been around the block a few times help me back then, get my $2000 back from a corrupt production company that prayed on young talent. I worked 10 friday nights from 6pm till 6am when I was early 22, and never got paid a dime. And then two years ago I was owned $6000 and fighting tooth and nail I got that money as the company was collasping from a Ponzi scheme. Again, I would have just loved to have someone older help me. And, what, the guys didn't ask for my help right? Well that's right. So why did I do it? Because one of the scammed victims was threatening violence, very early on. I was actually scared for ES. and because not everyone asks for help, but the guys came on the forum and thought it was a lost cause so they kind of opened the invitation to find out more, and a lot of other people helped too - we all backed each other up. And if that stupid rangefinder that doesn't even work that well actually makes it to the guys, that's something, I guess. That we got back and got organized and got a scam artist who was using his leverage and thinking he could play the crowd for what they were, seeing those yankees stripes and thinking nothing past it. But people were able to rise above it, just as everyone should always do.1 point

That is one of the reasons why this thread should remain on the forum. So that in future his previous advice can be assessed in the light of this thread ie be treated as suspect. I suggest to @Andrew Reid that he must keep this thread on the forum but lock it when ES has refunded the people he scammed. However I also suggest that Andrew writes a short summary on the first post that summarises this thread so people don't have to trawl through the endless pages to find the relevent points : ie Ebrahim Saadawi was accused by the OP of scamming him Two other people came forward to say that they had also been scammed by him After a lot of persuasion Ebrahim admitted to the scams and attempted to verify his identity Ebrahim also admitted to extensive lying about his circumstances and experience in cinematography and consequently all his advice should be treated as inaccurate and possibly misleading Ebrahim eventually refunded the three people he admitted to stealing from (Hopefully) Ebrahim has now been banned from the EOSHD forum (hopefully) If Ebrahim is banned, then I think that will be shown on his status with every one of his previous posts so that will help alert future users to the unreliability of his advice.1 point -

One thing is not paying back a credit card company, loan office etc. due to money lack of wages etc. and another is to STEAL and DECEIVE someone of their money with no intent of repaying them back. I see two options here, jail and fines or you repay everyone back immediately and be gone forever. It doesn't matter if you have to work 2 jobs, sell things you own etc. Also the thought of you not paying anyone back is really beyond amazing, especially when you stole form them. They have a place for people like you and it's called Jail, I would not hesitate to give you 6 months in jail and several 100's of hours of community service........
