It is worth noting the the 1.7 crop on 4k is purely an educated guess from Andrew... people seem to be using it as a stick to beat Canon with already.... seems odd.2 points

Perfect thanks again for the info it's been a great help! Finally have the Kowa in my hands and it looks pretty great! Some light cleaning marks on the front but otherwise very nice from my eye. Just working on making a nice hard mount for it on some rails to start. Next step is order the Core DNA and send the pair off for machining and fine adjustments.2 points -

So to sum up: Canon are stupid for not focusing on video in whats probably the most successful DSLR line in history. Even though the video shooters are just a tiny tiny tiny minority among the buyers of still cameras. The professionals as well as amateurs that buy it are just stupid and uneducated. No way they could actually like it. Its better to have a +$3000 camera overheat in the middle of a job than to make it work. Me who own 0 products from canon but have bought pretty much every camera Sony ever made obviously work for Canon. The absolute majority of professional still shooters buy Canon or Nikon. But they will now switch to m4/3 because the 5D doesn't have C-Log. Yeah.. I'm not sure. This is my prediction: It will be the most sold fullframe DSLR for the next 5 years.2 points -

I be interested to see your setup once machining is done. I shot this with my Inflight with three different taken lens. Two vintage and one modern. Was slightly off on my height calculation. I had it at 62% and it should 57%.1 point -
What is the source of this information? My understanding is Skylake already has full hardware support for 8-bit H.265/HEVC (such as output by the NX1). It was Haswell and Broadwell which had partial support. This was tested here: http://labs.divx.com/hevc-hwaccel-skylake Kaby Lake will have hardware support for 10-bit HEVC but this has nothing to do with whether Skylake has full hardware support for 8-bit HEVC. It does: http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2016/01/28/understanding-the-biggest-improvement-intel-corp-i.aspx1 point

Oh how refreshing, a sensitive fanboy doesn't agree with someone else's decision and calls them an idiot Also, please link to page, forum or blog where I've said that I have bought 0 canon cameras. I had a discussion at work yesterday and asked the others if they could figure out why this camera (as well as others) is such a hot topic. I mean, do you guys attack people on the streets for not hitting on your girlfriend? Or do you call people at the pizza shop "idiots" for not choosing the same toping as you? All of it kinda supports my theory on it being mostly the assburger part of the film community on forums. The once that sends you a graf or chart when you ask for an example image. Any who, I don't agree with wolf33d that buying a Sony makes one an idiot, nor buying a 5D. Being upset about it on others behalf though... Maybe not idiotic but definitely a bit disturbed Since the thread is already 100% derailed I will wait until footage is out. Feel free to call me what ever you like while I'm gone. My favorite candy is black liquorice, in case you want something to be upset about1 point -

That's exactly what I do. Have enough cheap 2tb and 4tb externals for storage. For my projects, the least internal storage I had before exporting a finished version from FCPX was about 450gb - that was a wedding with two hours or so of XAVCS 1080 footage from my A7sii in events and a 40 minute film on my timeline all graded. Biggest 4k projects are all under twenty minutes, so not a problem either. I nearly fell for the need for an external array set-up (which would have cost over £1000), when I noticed that the 2015 iMac came with a possible 1tb SSD inside. The main reason I went for the iMac over a Mac Pro was the screen. Researched loads of monitors and they all had their issues when paired with the Mac Pro. Turned out that for most of what I would be using it for, the iMac was faster as per Max Yuryev's much viewed comparison.1 point

You praise Canon and say Sony sucks the whole time but you have bought EVERY camera sony ever made and 0 Canon. You must be a real idiot? Exactly... He does not work for Canon, but I agree this is really funny. "Specs look great, codec is the main selling point and the crop is welcomed." LOL. Awesome to buy a FF body with huge FF glass to have a M43 crop indeed. That's a revolution! Matthias you are amazing.1 point

Thanks Mat, this is ok, I have a spare camera (GX7MKII) and I can survive for a week without the GH4. It is just that this Vlog story from Panasonic is a mess from start to end. They should have give it for free. Adding all steps was the prefect recipe for stories like mine. Bottom line if this happen to more people, this upgrade will cost them more than they earned by selling it.1 point

The amount of posts here everyday is just another proof of how well this camera will sell. If only Nikon would wake up and set up a video division they could destroy these crippled DSLRs.1 point

iMac or specialist editing rig?
Bioskop.Inc reacted to The Chris for a topic
I dump all my footage to the SSD and edit, then move finished projects to external drives. I don't save unedited footage, just high quality versions of the finished piece or clips trimmed down for B-roll if I need to repurpose. I have about 800gb of free space on my 1tb drive, that's usually more than enough for what I do.1 point -
The a6300 doesn't overheat in 1080, has similar readouts to the 5d3 at 1080, has axis display, has built in EVF, has focus magnification and peaking without custom firmware, has very usable autofocus, has slow motion up to 120fps, has a log profile and does have a nice colour rendition. The a6300 is objectively good for run & gun, and really has a lot of advantages over the 5D3 for other stuff too.1 point

lol quite obviously. we are talking top bill FF DSLR versus a consumer pocket camera without even a viewfinder. I'd never consider a A6300 over my 5D3 or even a 6D. Too many compromises on usage but fact remains that sony gives access to full readout APS-C 4K, zebra/peaking & S-Log3 for $1K. Add a speedbooster and it's FF 4K! And of course native FF 4K with clean 4K HDMI output, EVF, SLOG, IBIS etc.. for $3K on the A7S2. Sony offers all this, even though they also have a pricey FS cinema cam line. So my point is simply that Canon could include a few of these goodies on their 3.800 euro flagship 5D4. But no dice. Also, sorry for beating a dead horse here but 1.7x crop is just a real bummer. I buy a Full Frame for a Full Frame look/experience. It becomes even more important with 4K where you'd like the possibility of a jump-in crop in full HD timeline. Well now on the 5D4, my 35mm 1.4 L becomes a 60mm native in 4K.. and my widest 24mm L becomes a 40mm.. that just makes me cringe..1 point -

gelaxstudio reacted to forofilms for a topic
Here at EOSHD forums we are a highly-specialized, niche segment of the market. We speak and critique from that perspective. I really don't care what the weekend warriors, vloggers, Japanese tourists and moonlighting wedding photographers do with their resources and purchasing decisions. I'm sure Canon will sell well. That's not what we're discussing. The question to debate is whether the 5Dmiv is a competent tool for this community and whether it delivers the performance and value that we would expect from a $3200-3800 body. Canon is free to turn up their noses at any segment they wish - yes, they will still sell to the hordes - but we are free to critique their merchandise and when we feel it's not up to par in the marketplace, free to state so. Just because they sell tons of cameras doesn't necessarily mean their cameras are adequate tools for sophisticated hybrid shooters. This is the perspective I'm critiquing them from. Sony is releasing products geared to what you call a "tiny tiny tiny minority" - now why do you think such a big company is focusing on such a "tiny" segment? I guess Sony is jsut stupid, right?1 point -

gelaxstudio reacted to forofilms for a topic
But because of this segmentation, some consumers (such as myself) are not purchasing Canon bodies. Yes, I could invest into the cinema line, but I'd paying more for the equivalent I get in Sony and I lose the stills capability. The segment that Canon is choosing to ignore is the hybrid shooter out there who has a need for sophisticated video features. Sony (and Panasonic to a lesser degree) is exploiting this segment because of it. Yes, Sony products are far from perfect. But where else can you get a full frame, 4k camera with video assist features and log that can competently shoot stills? Is that too much to ask in 2016? Is that too much to ask from Canon?1 point -
You have obviously never used these cameras. When in capable hands they can be more than just capable tools. GH4 is far more operator-friendly than a 5Dmiii. a6300 works well when used in the right way. Overheats, yes, but the results are stunning. In all seriousness, do you work for Canon? The specs are underwhelming, the codec is a prehistoric albatross and the crop is certainly not welcomed.1 point
-
Full spec completely updated. Say bye bye to C-LOG http://www.canonrumors.com/full-specifications-images-of-eos-5d-mark-iv/ This is completely underwhelming. The only think left to Canon is DPAF and the lenses. Nikon make way better stills camera (the D810 2 years old explodes any canon on the market), Sony and Panasonic make better video cameras. Yet half the planet will buy this shit.1 point
-
The more i think about these specs the less excited I am.. 1.7x crop would be pretty bad, especially at 3800 euros.. having to transcode a 500mbps outdated codec also sounds like a PITA... no log or focus assist.. no 4K output.. pixel-binned 1080p.. really DPAF is the only good news here. I'll reserve my judgement until final specs are released but it ain't looking pretty..1 point

That's a mean looking rattlesnake. Having a camera nearby at a time when the light was interesting was cool enough, but when I'd framed the shot and set the exposure, and a bloke happened to cruise by on a snazzy motorbike...well, what more could you ask for. It's a form of hunting, and it triggers a primal drive.1 point -

I've gotten that weird ghosting before, but I haven't noticed it since I've updated to the newest firmware, though I haven't been shooting a lot of 4k lately. I do notice weird black dots over the image that looks like dirt. I think it shows up at higher iso's but haven't spent the time to test it yet. Here are a few still frame c-log shots. These are all ungraded straight out of the camera, just exported via resolve.1 point

Alright, many members of the forum kept up with the charades that happened with Ebrahim Saawadi (one of the highest contributors on EOSHD) on this link: It was an extensive mystery case involving a scam that 3 members (myself included) paid for a SLR Magic Rangefinder for a cheap price, from a "trusted" member. He took approximately $250 each from Timotheus and Tomas, and $340 from myself for the item. Long story short, he got away without paying anyone their money back. He eventually sent the rangefinder to Tim and Tom, which turned out to be a test type (that had unusual thread sizes" that wouldn't work on most DSLR's as the original does. We got scammed. Just a friendly reminder that even "trusted" members can still be criminals trying to rip you off. Be aware of the many profiles and personas that Ebrahim Saawadi has on this forum, and more importantly, DO NOT TRUST HIM! Here are two different profiles that I am aware of: http://www.eoshd.com/comments/profile/33816-ebrahim-saadawi/ http://www.eoshd.com/comments/profile/20775-ebrahim-saadawi/ Stay alert folks, and learn from my mistake. P.S. Thank you all forum members that participated in the most interesting posts I have seen on this forum. Especially those trying to help make things right between those involved.1 point

Samsung NX Speed Booster
SMGJohn reacted to lucabutera for a topic
This discussion is an example of how complicated a simple thing. The speed booster increases the amount of image that is acquired by the sensor, consequently the sensor receive more light, increasing the brightness of the image of about a stop. Everything else is relative to the type of camera you use, make a technical discourse is useless, for each shot you have to set the elements in order to get the best. A light increase is positive and always helps, rather a worsening of light is always negative. In practice, if with your samsung nx you use a lens that has a maximum f1.4 aperture, you can use it at f2.0, getting the same light you had without the speed booster, but with better picture quality (in addition to other known benefits). Please if you want to continue this debate (already thoroughly discussed in the Internet), open another topic, please.1 point -

I see that I am not the only one who wish a good still photo video FF body. I want a Canon 5D mirrorless body with tilt screen (with canon durability and ergonomics) with A7SII video specs (4K, good slowmo, IBIS) but with Canon sensor and color, Nikon D810 DR for stills and canon DPAF. How on earth this is still not available ? Asking this since 3 years here on EOSHD. This will never come by Pana who does M43 which is shit for stills. So we have SonyCaNikon. Canon will never have the specs. Sony well apparently they do redesign their menu and will release a good specced A9 and A99 but at what cost (price and flaws..) and Nikon well they disappointed clearly in 4K but who knows with their first FF mirrorless next year they might surprise us.1 point
