  1. It's a fantastic image for the price! Prices in Norway: GX85 is 590 euros, G85 is 1050 euros and A6300 is 1335 euros. If the price keeps dropping I might have to keep it as a B-cam when the GH5 is out, which isn't so bad as it's a perfect match for Hercules with PL 15mm and PL 25mm:

It includes a mount and everything! And only €82!!!! Wow! Get it while you can!!! If anyone else comes across any ads where the seller, like this one, clearly is asking for a fair deal please share

  3. Not good news :P First I tried with Canon 40mm pancake, the lens wasn't responding at all, I suspect that the protocol has expanded a bit. Spent that weekend trying to get any kind of response to no avail. Good-ish news, during the week I tried the 28-135 and there is definitely movement in the lens, but I've had no time to explore further. It seems like I might need to get a logic analyzer to have a shot at it working with newer Canon lenses. If anyone wants to leapfrog me, there is someone that claims to have made such a working adapter for basic manual control using buttons on the adapter for focus and aperture, and was actually using it on NX. Scroll way down to the post by a Peter S on January 2, 2012 at 14:15 https://pickandplace.wordpress.com/2011/10/05/canon-ef-s-protocol-and-electronic-follow-focus/ Need to adapt that code to Arduino Nano when I get a chance, very similar microcontroller used in his project. http://blueringlab.com/2016/03/canon-ef-lens-aperture-control-test/ It's too bad he didn't post that code, the answer to his unresolved precise aperture setting is in Peter's post. http://howiem.com/wordpress/index.php/2016/07/07/motion-control-canon-ef-lens-hacking/ Is an informative post, he also has code available, but it is a bit different, being driven from a connected computer rather than a microcontroller, etc.. but still possibly useful. In my searching about, it seems that almost everything the public knows about the EF protocol originates from this German thread: http://www.dslr-forum.de/showthread.php?t=649529&page=61 Which is unfortunately a jumbled mess and all the useful compilations of the info some members made seem to be defunct. Still, it's worth combing through. The next step for me I think is to re-verify the physical integrity of my connections, then start working with the 28-135 instead of that obnoxious 40mm. Not sure 100% about the logic analyzer yet... but since I'm thinking it will be needed eventually I'm starting to feel like I should order one soon. The NX side is easier and harder. I think I have quite a bit more concrete information on the protocol, thanks in part to rockymountain's blueringlab site, but this side likely involves fooling the camera about certain aspects of the lens and spoofing lens responses. Luca: If I want more than one focal reducer should I donate that number of times? <- in bold because the site is merging my posts and I thought this should be separate.

  6. To me it is pretty good! The shot on the roof shows that moire is not too severe... so it is already a good point in my opinion. Two days ago I shot a music video and there was also an operator with his Phantom 3 Pro, it seems more "digital" to me from the shots I have from it.

  7. This is right on the money. For me, I could have spent more getting a somewhat higher end cam, but being on a budget ( and being purely a hobbyist) I would rather have a mid range camera with a few different lenses, than one high end camera and only a kit lens. Although the 12-23 is actually a great wee performer! It's very easy to get caught up in the gear side of things. I spent way too much money and time on cameras for still photography over the last few years, thinking that better kit equals better photos and while obviously it's a contributing factor in certain areas, it really comes down to the skill of the user in 90% of situations. Now that I'm more focused on trying to learn video, I'm determined to do it to a budget because as I mentioned it's purely a hobby. M4/3 often gets slated, certainly in the photographic world as there is a huge amount of gear snobbery, but I actually don't mind because there's nothing more satisfying than showing a great picture and then explaining that I didn't need a huge full frame DSLR and £1000 lens to take it!

  8. I would wait and see what initial reviews say about rolling shutter, battery life, and overheating. All are big issues on the current Sony cams, and it remains to be seen if they've been improved at all in this model.

  10. I'm more excited for the Nikon DL cameras to finally drop. 4K pocket cameras with Nikon's excellent codec, flat profile, ergonomics, and battery life= my ideal travel camera.

  11. There is also a third model which I think Sony has taken (it's also quite a new approach). Don't you think Sony delivers features but a lot of the time they're not 100% reliable like on Canikons? They're unreliable to the point that some people after initial OHs and WOWs switch back. The third model is based around Lean startup method in which you intentionally release lower quality products in order to improve them later on.(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lean_startup). The idea is to get a "good enough" product on the market ASAP and improve it over time (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lean_startup#Minimum_viable_product). This way you can release cutting edge technologies earlier and more often, cut the costs (less testing time etc) and get feedback from customers earlier. The downsides we all know, don't we ;)? We're all unpaid beta testers all the time in a way. There is also something called split testing in which "different versions of a product are offered to customers at the same time" - sounds familiar, doesn't it? It'll be interesting to see which model will come out first in the end, though!

    Canon XC10 4K camcorder

Here's a few clips in c-log Hd, as well as some 60p shots. I'm not a very good at color grading so I know it could be better. I had my daughter in a pack on my back of all these shots so the stabilization helped a lot.

  13. It's not so much sharpness/contrast as it is actual details and most importantly color... as said before, that top down mode looks real good, everything in one plane. Once you start to add depth, things just seem to get messy and that doesn't just have to do with the new lens and AF. And colors are just weird to me. I'd say footage shot with the Phantom 4/Inspire 1+X5/X5R(OSMO) and probably GoPro Karma, might look a little more hyperrealstic/picture perfect and nicer. To me. So of course it's subjective whether you like that kinda thing or not... you might call it 'digital' or whatever. Also, you saw there that it's not quite as smooth as they as well mentioned separately. I mean. Hands down awesome small camera, no doubt. But not sure about praising sub-par image quality in order to justify buying one. But then again 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder' is what they say...

  14. Hey, don't judge a book by it's cover! Or a slider by its use of cardboard and hot glue. Too legit to quit! All 'bout that streetcred! Hipstermatic! They should take the concept to Indiegogo/Kickstarter. Would be a shame to let this be a one-of. I bet it would take off big time. Like that potato salad , or the shrimp cloud . In the hopes it won't end up like the ShitBag .

  16. I was using the transitions wrong, I didn't realise that you needed to overlap the clips for them. I've found out now how to use them, and also to use the simpler fades, and everything's running fine now.

    Canon XC10 4K camcorder

Welcome aboard... I look forward to seeing your results. Have you tested the 1080 and the 4K? Once you get the hang of the slip into f/3.7 and start riding the aperture wheel, the low end... 24-50 really shines.

    Sony Will Announce the A6500

In real terms though, you knew what you were buying when you bought it and you thought it was worth the money. It's the same camera that can do exactly the same thing whether or not a newer camera comes out. You aren't in anyway disadvantaged any more than if they hadn't brought it out. What you are asking is that sony innovate less in order to moddycoddle your irrational sense of camera inadequacy. Maybe they did have it ready when the 6300 came out, in which case its fair to say you wished it was released then, but maybe they threw it together after they'd taken a look at the competition. It that is the case, how would it disadvantage anyone releasing it as soon as its ready.

    A7sIII - Get ready?

Very likely to be fabricated spec, CMOS sensors only benefit from BSI when the individual photosite gets really small, think A7R II/RX100 V, a 15MP FF sensor won't gain anything at all from using BSI design, the photosite area is already big enough for high quantum efficiency.

  24. Sony seems to be practicing the same disastrous environmental policies that Apple does...breeding this concept that something's already obsolete by the time you get it home from the store...must be taking it's cue from Apple and it's iPhone mania...oh well...all the Lemmings jumping happily off the cliff!

  25. As already said, I don't see it in that way. I've never interested myself for any of these toys based in so small size sensors. Always refused to sign GoPro or Phantom-like signature. Actually, I've always planned to use something from 4/3" format to begin with, when not S35 as much as possible. This is the first cinematic outcome I've seen from such tiny category of drones. Really promising to my eyes. Able to shoot wherever a bigger bird won't fly. Without such ridiculous oversharpened lines to scream the use of cheap gear every time you go with aerial shots in your material.

  26. Again from my native country, where DJI has invited a few reps of the 'Internet press' to the European presentation in the sunny Portuguese soil. Here's another sample of the Mavic Pro look. But, that plastic cover shouldn't be there to cover the camera lens when the bird is flying for sure...

  27. The GX85 seems like the best value on the market if you're a shooter desiring 5-axis stabilization. It's a cheap cam with good IQ and the 5-axis works quite well. Who can argue with that? Would I say it's a great camera overall? No. But it's an AWESOME camera if you're buying it to do what it's strengths allow you to do --'kuz you get more for less.

  28. Plus 20% VAT = 1507 euros, plus import duties = something higher + hell knows what else = 1700 Personally I miss the days of bargain GH2s and NEX cameras... the whole thing seems to be shifting higher and higher with every passing month as the consumer market dies and smartphones take over. At this rate there won't be an interesting camera under $3k. And also, the A6300 should never have existed. Majorly flawed, with a shelf life of approximately 30 seconds. There was absolutely nothing to stop Sony putting a touch screen in that and 5 axis stabilisation. The A6500 is a very interesting update but their game is clear, and I am angry at them, as I feel we have wasted our money...not once, not twice, but many times now with these quickly obsolete cameras.

    Never Satisfied

As above, enjoy in moderation. All camera movements are designed to evoke an emotional response - gliding should never be used to reflect grit (unless being pretentiously stylised) any more than over the shoulder shake should be used for a tender moment between a bride and groom (unless being pretentiously stylised). I saw a terrible wedding showreel the other week that was three minutes of zooming and sliders. It made me ill.

    Never Satisfied

Started watching the new season of Narcos the other day. I started noticing how quite a few shots had some shakiness to 'em. There's no smooth hovering with a locked feeling. It moves. It adds something raw. It's organic. It's real. That's the thing if you don't take care of overdoing it... everything is just articially floating, like a virtual camera through 3D space. Now that has its use, surely, but like everything, it's a tool. You shoot stable footage when a situation is under control... when a character's thoughts are running around or there's an intense dialog, you shake things up a bit. Like just about everything in life... enjoy in moderation. Put it to good use, but don't overdo it. To have the possibility and choice though, I think is great!

  31. Never heard of a Canon that didn't deliver in practice what they promised on paper. But the exact opposite can be said about pretty much every single Sony (outside cine alta). In fact, Sony is the only brand I can think of that never lives up to its hype. Pretty unique. Panasonic, Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Olympus, etc. Their stuff works as planned or have bugs that gets sorted out. Sony sell flat out broken cameras as if they where ok. My prediction is the same as I had about the rx100iv and a6300. Great specs, crap camera. But thats just me. I wont judge it until Ive tested it my self. But statistically it will suck ass

  32. Take a look on this cinematic outcome... To whom comes from film realm, such called 'softness' (when not missing focus) is a bless :-) PS: Thanks for the compliments on 'I Cento Passi' (dal cuore : ) Speaking of missing links... our memory is, though, full of team work worries, past today. Such as two weeks of shooting to be repeated only because of a DAT tape lost and recording sound irremediably missing, respectively; missing parts to still be credited; €300 to remain as credit card limit in the main method of payment for (shooting) expenses such as mere flight tickets (main cast); the female lead character to be completely erased from the script made with so much love fulfilled by many only a few months before in order to cut off the budget and tighten up efforts or there wouldn't be feature film to show up in the end + the whole participation of a co-production team and checks to sign at one time and follow accordingly, go figure... Finally, all this became multiple awarded in Venice since a decade and a half ago, oh well, crazy craft this industry is *Phew*
