Ed, you can watch the C500 in action in the current IMAX film, A Beautiful Planet, which was shot entirely on the C500 (and the 1DC for time-lapse): There is also an interesting article in American Cinematographer on why they chose the C500's uncompressed 4K RAW over other cinema cameras that they tested: http://www.theasc.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/AC-A-Beautiful-Planet.pdf3 points

Here is my first attempt to intercut the XT-2 with my C100mkII. I had hoped to have the XT-2 as a companion in this way and I'm pretty happy about it already. Camera settings in the video and more info in the description. Short report is that I used Wide DR and ProNegStd dialed down. I shot the XT-2 in 4K. pswd: twocam3 points

Canon XC10 4K camcorder
Kisaha and one other reacted to tomsemiterrific for a topic
Yes, this is the XC15. I sold my XC10 to purchase it---I never noticed any issue with the XC10, but perhaps I'm not as skilled or attentive to details as i should be. I do a lot of education videos and the new XLR attachment and audio processing offered on the XC15 is excellent--had to have it, and now the XC15 is complete, at least for my primary purposes. Note, that a firmware update is coming for the XC10 that will give it the Cps and color space of the XC15--and (I hope) the waveform as well. It is very, very helpful, especially shooting in Log. Could it not be possible that Canon knows about this issue, and has silently addressed the issue in the XC15, and plan to do the same for the XC10 in its next firmware update???2 points -

BasiliskFilm and one other reacted to Mattias Burling for a topic
Disclaimer: I did an experimental roll of Kodak Vision converted for C41 today. I seriously underexposed the iso800 film. I than let it sit waaay longer than it should in cold and very very old chemicals that I was planning on taking to the dump tomorrow. So, grainy and instagrami as f..ck. I only had 5 frames left of the roll and was going to just let them go to waste when I saw the gimbal. So here are a few very rough images The Gimbal Very little play for heavy cameras and still keeping the 360 ability. The Remote (optional extra) Love details like the hole where you can store the mounting screw.2 points -
Finally got some new products out by this year. When busy with the Rapido Mod project, realize I would need a real solid clamp for adapting larger anamorphic lenses. Thus, here comes the Clamp V2 with rail support. This clamp is designed based on the original M67-M77 verion of the clamp with additional features: 1: Anti-slip feature, the front of the clamp has standard 82mm male thread, and a lock ring is screw on to prevent the anamorphic lens from fall off during adjustment 2: Rail support feature, the external ring is connected to a beam, which can be assembled with standard 15mm rail based lens support bracket, like the one from Neewer, to provide rail support of the anamorphic lens. 3: Additional mounting options, the external ring has multiple standard M4 screw holes, which can be used for mounting additional accessories, like monitors, and etc. 4: Fast & easy change of anamorphic lens or taking lens, loosen the lock ring and three screws, the anamorphic lens is ready to be slide off from the clamp. Changing another taking lens is possible without readjusting the front anamorphic lens, just loosing the lens support bracket, and unscrew the taking lens from the camera, then you can screw in another taking lens to the clamp, and carefully locate the lens mount into camera. 5: Compatible with your existing step down/up rings, you can reuse existing step down/up rings, and pair them with this clamp. Say, you purchased a package before from us for your KOWA B&H lens, all you need is the V2 clamp to work with your KOWA and taking lens. No additional purchase needed. Following is the setup process using Rokinon 85mm as taking lens, pair with Hypergonar H.F. 2X anamorphic lens on GH4 camera: Step 1: screw the correct step up ring on the taking lens Step 2: screw the external ring onto the taking lens Step 3: assemble the rail support onto the external ring, having the beam pointing down Step 4: attach the lock ring onto the anamorphic lens Step 5: screw the step down ring onto the anamorphic lens Step 6: secure the camera on the rail Step 7: attach the rail support to the Lens Support Bracket Mount Clamp from Neewer Step 8: slide the anamorphic lens from front, and screw the lock ring onto the external ring Step 9: adjust the orientation of the anamorphic lens by rotating the anamorphic lens Step 10: lock down the anamorphic lens by tighten three M4 screws1 point

Canon XC10 4K camcorder
kidzrevil reacted to hyalinejim for a topic
I sure hope so Tom. That's very exciting about a firmware update. Even though I don't know anything about this CPS colour space. Must google it. Y'know I'm pretty sure you would have spotted ghosting on your XC10 if it had it. All the same, I'd still like to see a similar clip from an XC10 without ghosting. @kidzrevil It's looking more likely that we should send ours in. We know now that not all XC15s have ghosting. But it could still be the case that all XC10s do, and the difference is due to software processing. We still need to see a high ISO XC10 clip without ghosting. I tried one in a shop yesterday and it was like Ghostie McGhosterton. Who else owns an XC10 round here?1 point -

Ghost free! Big thanks for that @tomsemiterrific. Looks clean as a whistle on my end, no motion ghosting. It's barely noticeable at low ISO. Everywhere in between is more or less noticeable, depending on what ISO, how much motion, and in what tonal range. It's not that I ever intend to shoot at ISO 20000, it's just that it's incredibly noticeable and is the best test of "Does my XC10 have ghosting artifacts?" There are 2 possibilities: 1. Only some XC10s have ghosting and kidzrevil and I should return our units. 2. All XC10s have ghosting and we should ask Canon for a fix. All it takes is one sample clip to falsify no.21 point -

No idea, it's not my vid. Ghosting is independent of shutter speed though - SS only changes the shape of the ghost due to motion blur. I agree that in this case it's not the end of the world - a test video / tourist vid. But there are times when this sort of motion artifacting is flat out unacceptable. I would hate to be in a situation where a client points and says "What's that? Can you get rid of it please?" In short, no, because if you play back frame by frame 25p footage the traces are from the previous frame, not a 50p interpolation1 point -

Yes at 1000 there is a slight smearing of the image in HD, but 4K shouldn't be affected as much. I didn't notice a difference between the two when it came to noise - both were at ISO500 so not that much noise anyway except for shadow areas. Yes, that video has very clear ghosting in some shots - like double vision! 43s, back of the man's head - or the lady. Or when the white truck goes past, pause it and you'll see 2 sets of tail lights!1 point -

I also find it hard to believe that other people have not spotted the image ghosting and that makes me think it might just be some models. Only way to know for sure is to see footage from other units. It looks like @tomsemiterrific and @mercer are on the case and will post something in the other thread In other news, more tests today confirm for me that the image is already losing detail at ISO1000 in HD. Also, WideDR is better than CLog in HD because there's less banding and the colours are nicer. CLOG: WIDE DR: It also makes it easier to see the screen. I don't think there's any difference in dynamic range. I also learned that there are superwhites and 100 zebras are not necessarily clipped - I can get that info back in 32bit workspace in After Effects.1 point -
I thought it was a good share. I bought a SLR Magic 12mm T1.6 second hand and I'm very happy with it. I'm thinking about selling a couple of other lenses so I can get the SLR Magic 25mm 0.95 mkiii.1 point

Canon XC10 hardcoded noise reduction issue
hyalinejim reacted to tomsemiterrific for a topic
I'll try to get it done this evening. Work today. In the flowerpot scene I can't see any ghosting; the ISO was 20,000 and sharpening was actually set about half way up the degrees---normally I shoot Clog so I haven't actually turned sharpening off--as it my habit with all CPs.1 point -

Two guys said in the other topic related to ghosting they are not having the issue, I think first an example from them is imperative, if they are not having the issue then we are in serious problem, since it is a problem related to camera building instead of firmware update.1 point

Thank you for this topic as I wanted to create one asking about this camera. Sor far DJI has always fell on me and I m tired of their XXX = Bought a Ronin that barely worked, OSMO with X3 : Crappy Camera, Osmo Mobile : 4K problems and can't access video files if you do not have the Osmo mobile turned ON! (Each time I returned what I purchased after a week. BUT... the Osmo was a really good Gimbal, the X3 Camera was crap. So I am really looking to get some nice feedback on the X5 before doing anything. The Osmo with a X5 is a nice combo, better and easier to carry around than my GH4 or GX7MKII and a Came TV Single for example.1 point

Canon XC10 hardcoded noise reduction issue
kidzrevil reacted to hyalinejim for a topic
I agree. I went into a store in town today and checked out their display model. It had the exact same behaviour as mine. I've sent the files from both cameras to my Canon CPS rep, because I haven't heard from the regular support guys in a few days. In the meantime I'm trying to keep ISO at 500 whenever possible. Interiors are manageable at 24mm f2.8. If the ISO goes up the image goes to mush and the ghosts start coming out. I'd like to see Canon release a firmware update on October 31st. If you want to chance sending in your unit, ask Canon for a loan replacement. You might be entitled to it under the CPS programme. If kidzrevil and I are correct in our hunch, this affects all units and not just ours. In that case the only solution is for XC10/15 users to contact Canon and ask them to offer an option to disable noise reduction. Can you check this @HugoS316 and upload a quick example at ISO 20000, waving the camera around in front of something sharp and contrasty with underexposed areas? If your unit doesn't have ghosting, this will encourage kidzrevil and me to send our units back to Canon. Thanks in advance.1 point -

Nikon Flat Profile Question...
August McCue reacted to Flaaandeeers for a topic
It's really that bad. But it's also really cheap and i use it a lot for stills with the D750 since the glass is pretty sharp and the AF amazingly fast for the price. For video I only use AI/S glass, because the focus feel is essential for my taste. Nonetheless I'd like to get a VR zoom lens as an all rounder for more casual stuff but I can't afford any of them right now... And I've been there myself regarding Nikon's image. I've had Canon, Panasonic, Olympus and Blackmagic cameras and there is something about the dynamic range, color and cleanness in that small but robust file that makes me love my D750. With all the recent camera releases and announcements I've been considering switching to the A6500, the EM1 II or even the XT-2... but when I make an overall analysis of the trade-offs and my personal priorities, I cannot find a good reason to let the D750 go.1 point -

Lintelfilm reacted to UHDjohn for a topic
I've used it with a Shogun and Pix-e5h. I can't see any quality gain over the internal UHD 305 codec but haven't done any motion tests. I tested it to see if I could eliminate banding in blue skies but it didn't improve. ( HDMI out is 8 bit and not 10 bit)I found ETTR not the best way to expose for C-Log. Firstly the zebras are on the green channel so you can clip other colours ( inc blue skies) and mainly because the image just looks better to me about 1 stop under ETTR and the banding is under control. The banding is a bit of a shame and I don't get it with my A7s S-Log HDMI out which is also 8 bit. One good reason for an external monitor is to have scopes which I hear they have introduced on the new x15. Probably no technical reason they can't do this with a firmware upgrade but I guess they won't for commercial reasons. One thing I hate ( And on the A7s) is the lack of a quick WB set button. I would just like to point it at a grey card or pop on my expodisk and press to set the WB. This camera generated so much hate when it came out but is now gaining a lot of respect due in no small part to a superb C-Log / 305mbs codec and the now sensible pricing ( the launch price was just ill judged). Couple of tips; don't stop down past f8 in UHD or the resolution drops off due to diffraction. it can't trigger the recording from the camera on the video devices recorder but it can with then Atomos. ( kind of pointless putting a monitor on it anyway as it ruins it's compact point and shoot nature) I'd also like to see user selectable NR and more options for assigning functions to the buttons.1 point -

I spoke with Billy at the Fuji booth at PhotoPlus (NYC) on Friday - compliments and feedback on the XT-2. He asked how the XT-2 has changed my work and obviously I talked with him about video and that the camera was "almost" to the point that for certain events, I could use it exclusively for photo/video vs. always bringing my C100 mk. II and using the XT-1 for stills. I emphasized the shortfalls for me was the lack of exposure tools in video to which he was very acknowledging - "That's a priority for me too." I also mentioned the desire for internal FLog - "We are hearing that from everyone..." He will be in Tokyo next month and said he would be bringing two months of feedback with him. His tone was appreciative and optimistic. It was clear to me that they don't feel at all complete with camera's video as it currently stands.1 point
