He didn't have to. It's impossible that you thought he meant "there are rapists of every nationality, which must mean a handful of mexican immagrants have also been rapists, though generally we are all the same, and there are mexican immagrants I would be proud to call my friend"... He said his racist thing, you can't defend it. Wasn't the only instance. And we, as straight white men, don't get to say he's forgiven for all his shit.3 points -

There is an old legal principle called 'The Plain Meaning Rule" which is basically that people say what they mean, and they mean what they say. It's interesting to see the contortions some people are going to to say that Trump didn't, in fact, mean what he said, or that what he said was just a code for something much more palatable. While a lot of people are trying to convince themselves that Trump doesn't really mean what he has said, many others are fearful that he does indeed mean what he has said. I recall some similar commentary when Rodrigo Duterte came to power recently in the Phillipines, promising a spate of extrajudicial killings for anyone involved in the drug trade. It turns out that good old Rodrigo did in fact mean what he said. The jury is out with Trump, because nobody actually has any idea of what he is going to do. The American people have unleashed the unknown onto the rest of us. Let the experiment begin.2 points -

Oh, I think you can speak for at least about half of Americans with that sentiment. Make no mistake, POTUS campaigning is a game of rhetoric. Clinton is not good at it, which is why she was unable to turn out the vote. She only needed to convince about 1 outta 200 voters in the swing states to win enough electoral votes. More absurd rhetoric and concerted outreach to uneducated rust-belt whites would have helped her, to be honest. A little more verve with some "I'll totally create jobs for you, absolutely!" stuff. On the other hand, that's not who she is. She knows coal is doomed, for instance, so why promise jobs to the sector? Things like that. Pragmatism in a campaign is not a good strategy. It's noble and honest, but not a winning game. And really, I'm not going to poo-poo Trump in everything. He gets a chance from me. A very very skeptical chance, but a legit one. He's talking about an infrastructure WPA-type program. Which seems like that would make the GOP's leader's heads explode, so we'll see. Totally bummed about the SCOTUS thing though.2 points -

I think the big question is: what camera should you use to film a Trump face? Do we need a new revolution in color capture for our cameras, or do we need better tools for post production?2 points -
The reason why Trump won is because Hillary Clinton and the democratic party tried to force their will on the American public. They stacked the deck against Bernie Sanders and basically cheated him out of the nomination. They then continued to use all of their connections to try and stack the deck against Trump- getting debate questions beforehand, getting sent articles and news reports for editing from the media, etc... If it had not been for wikileaks exposing all of this we probably never would have none what they were trying to do. The DNC, Clinton, and their connections int the media tried to supplant Clinton as president. It wasn't about what the people wanted it was about what they wanted. In doing so they had a canidate who is one of the most corrupt and hated polititans out there. Looking for someone to protest, someone to blame, look no further than the Democratic party. They tried to force Hillary on us, they failed and this is the result.2 points

Exactly, Sanders, and a couple more, for sure. I believe the problem was that people had to vote for Trump, we all know (we that didn't vote for him, because he was ELECTED, do not forget that) how bad he is, but the Clinton family is not the most democratic of the Democrats, so people vote against the "establishment", and Trump and Sanders were the anti-establishment vote, Hilary wasn't. Right now the world goes left or (far) right, Clinton was center-right, and that was it. Already Trump - Putin - Erdogan are.forming an unholy alliance, who is going to stop them? And who are going to devour? I see that US people do not have the whole idea of how the president of the United States affect the whole planet, maybe you worry about your salaries right now, but aggression and negativity goes around and comes around. This person supports the idea of teachers teaching with guns and punish women that want to have birth control. Seriously..2 points

I use a lens hood to minimize flares. I shot at f/5.6 Quick coloring in Film Convert. Super harsh lighting but quick real world look. Flares would also be totally horizontal if I were on a tripod but it's mostly handheld.1 point -

The media created Trump. The Apprentice. A top ten show in America. Where every week Trump is a smart hero to everyone who wants to make it in America. A successful billionaire to those who don't better. The man who can fire you. A man in his Trump airplane, with his fancy suits and beautiful woman and a vision of success, of the American dream, to those who know nothing better. The media gave him coverage during the primaries. Nonstop coverage. Waited on him to speak. "Did you hear what he said?" "Did you hear what he tweeted?" Put on the screen his rallies even before he got on the stage. While they gave a third of that coverage to Hillary Clinton, the best choice in defeating the monster. Trump the monster. They made this monster. Because - he was GREAT for RATINGS. Because he was a carnival backer. Entertaining as hell. It was a fun reality show for everyone! He knew what to say - what soundbytes work. He was a natural extension of our TV culture's endless reality-show culture that has been going on since the 90's. Leslie Moonves, CEO of CBS was quoted as saying in reference to Trump: "It May Not Be Good for America, but It's Damn Good for CBS." The man who will most likely appoint supreme court judges to destroy Roe vs Wade, the Paris Climate talks, the marriage equality act, and any sort of green energy reform. So what do we do? Take away the one thing the mainstream media cares about: their RATINGS. To sink the news divisions of any mainstream media service that potentially destroyed the planet in exchange for a quick billion dollars. THIS IS REVENGE for them destroying our future. It's time to get angry. To not be reserved. These fuckers just took away female reproductive rights because they wanted to buy a new private jet. Why couldn't they get their ratings from their entertainment division? You greedy little fucks. I am calling on all of you to work on and create alternative new sources and docs and FB videos that steals away their eyeballs. Media that is more engaging and more thoughtful and ethical enough to not resort to ratings grabs above all else. Above human lives. There are so many causes that need videos - that need larger audiences to get behind - green energy movement, human rights movements, international policy movements, college education movements, b-corporations, local politicians and efforts. Critical looks at the world's major banks and international powers - so much stuff. We can do this. We have the talent and skillset from our 10,000+ hours of learning and learning and learning to use our powers for good. Let's get organized. Let's all talk about this. Let's figure out how to divide up our limited time to do this all.1 point -

I am against Clinton and Trump, I am only pro-logic, and people declare Trump a surealist poet is too much. I can't really see the metaphor in grabbing a female's privates, and I am really well read. Trump is a populist. That's it, there isn't anything mystical or magic behind him. He is a raw man, the kind of "I grab what I want" man, and " I'll tell you what you want to hear" and that is why he won. People want to be Trump, billionaires, don't pay taxes, bankrupt and saved by the system, being a tv persona, have a trophy Slovenian model wife and a beautiful daughter that "if I wasn't his father I would date her". There is nothing metaphorical, or lyrical, or surrealistic, or anything, he is what ALL the uneducated simpletons want to be. The issue no one is talking about is the voting system. Why there are only two (very similar in reality) political parties? Why can't we vote NONE OF THE ABOVE? How people with less than the 1/4-1/5 of the electoral capacity rule whole nations? Hitler was voted by themasses, that didn't really go that well (ofcourse they are not the same, just saying). And.."democracy is the worst, but is the best one we know so far". Whoever cares about political systems, let's check the Swiss democratic system, the most democratic I know, and ofcourse the Athenian democracy, the most advanced social experiment, 2500 years ago.. Also,Trump's latest words are very moderate. He lied to his own voters?!1 point -

jgharding reacted to Trek of Joy for a topic
I'm always so paranoid about my tripod flopping over, I have a Benro S8 carbon and the head weighs twice as much as the legs, so it feels really top heavy. Fortunately I don't use a spreader and with the legs in the first locking position its rock solid. I still hang my bag on it photo style to keep the center of gravity lower in case the operator (me) bumps it, which frequently happens.1 point -
this is going to be a bit of a daft question - but the shutter mechanism that "moves all the time" - you hear the "rattle" when moving the camera about does it do any harm if you go for a long run with it say and its constantly moving around my Sigma 30mm on my NEX rattles like its broken until power is applied - like the GX85 body it feels "wrong" even though you know there is no fault1 point

The problem with the idea of creating our own political content is to remain truly independent and not just push our own agendas, which then feed to our friends and connections with similar agendas, creating an echo chamber. If you can't empathise with the people you think are wrong/not well informed, you have no chance of reaching them.1 point -
Is it easier to "blame the media" rather than face the reality that it was the American people who wanted (and voted for) Trump to lead their nation? How long ago was it that we were rallying to bring down the Saadawi empire? Or criticise Zach for his off-topic ramblings? All good fun!1 point

I use a Tiffen Vari ND outdoors and combine it with the internal ND to keep it from creating uneven skies at strong settings. I know there are recoverable superwhites but the banding occurs with C-LOG when you pull back the exposure in post so I don't find ETTR to be that useful on this camera.I found C-LOG to have a wider DR than Wide DR (as seen on my ext monitor scopes) but depending on the scene's contrast range C-LOG may not be ideal low contrast situations. It would be great if it had inbuilt scopes to see the brightness range of a scene and choose the profile which best fits it. I'll check out the gain settting and hope Canon issues a firmware update for some of the obvious issues like baked in NR and the ghosting but I predict they won't bother now the XC15 is out......1 point -

The Bolex is sold by now, I only have an one 2x ana for sale. The bolex was really nice, but there is no perfect lens, every lens has its down and upsides. The bolex had awesome IQ, sharp at f2, but was really bad at infinity focusing (had to stop down). I wasn't afraid to use it on a run & gun gig. But like Caleb wrote with the UHD you can crop the image to your needs. If you're looking for a lens that is easy to work with (no rack focus) and it's sharp, you'll have to get some funds. If you just want to try it out, or do some artistic filming, where you have the time to set up everything, get a Prominar for 300 euros, or an ISCO which is pretty sharp, or a Sankor.1 point

I have the D750 and the D500 (and a D3s and D800), and they're both excellent. The difference between the two are mostly to do with features rather than image quality -- both images are pretty much the same, you have to push pretty hard to see the difference. One place where you can see differences is at high ISO -- the D500 might have a 1.5 million ISO headline, but it's pure BS. It's just acceptable for certain applications* at 12,800 ISO in RAW, the D750 is definitely better at 12,800 (not a massive difference a la A7s, but noticeable.) The D750 and D500 has the same colour, they mix and match perfectly. Not sure if that will be the case for any new cameras, since I've noticed that Nikons do change in look from generation to generation (as you would expect). It changes enough so that I keep slightly different Lightroom presets for each of my cameras to get a consistent look, even in RAW stills. Another thing I'll note is that while each new Nikon I've bought have feature differences, they're not hugely different. Nikon is at a place where they're happy to do 4K in crop mode -- I wouldn't expect a new upcoming Nikon to do 4K without a crop. Nikon is incredibly conservative when it comes to adding new features, it would not surprise me that it would take a D6 (probably 4 years from now) before you see un-cropped 4K. No one buys Nikon for bleeding edge tech, they buy Nikon because it always works, under any circumstances, all the time. (That said, the 4K crop is about the same as the GH4 with native lenses at 2.3x, and I never had a problem with either camera. I do have a Tokina 11-16, which is a lovely looking lens) For what it's worth, if I absolutely had to only go with one camera I would pick the D750 with the 24-70. But only just, since I also have a D500 with the Sigma 17-50 2.8 with OS, and that is a pretty sweet combo. * I'll go right up to 12,800 for events in a dark room, but in any situation where I have some control over lighting/set/talent, I'd keep it no higher than 6400.1 point

This is where I disagree. I believe for many the monster was Hillary and not Trump. Trump with his polarizing views (and equally polarizing responses by many in the media), just attracted more viewers and raised ratings thus the extensive coverage. Did that influence voters? Sure it did. But are the media the one to blame? The main takeaway from these elections is that many voters are disgusted by the system, mainly the political system. Its the same system that denied Sanders a fair vote. If you don't trust wikileaks I can tell you with certainty that the DNC was asking for donations to Hillary long before the end of the primaries. So while both Trump and Sanders were trying to represent people, Sanders was f*cked by the democratic party itself. After people seeing this, many of them democrats, how could they on earth vote for Hillary? So don't blame the media. Blame the democrats, blame the system. Yes, I am all for that. Can we learn from this? Yes, we always do. But will it be easy to change the system? No. Do I believe that voting for a president can change it? No. It requires good education for everyone. It requires motivated people and constant effort. And most importantly it requires time. Let’s keep in mind that our feelings of disappointment with Trump might be similar to the disappointment that plenty of people had with Obama, or the disappointment that many people would have with Hillary. Democracy, even in its most distant form in US, is still as good as the people inside it, and we have to accept that in order to change. I regard Trump as just another noisy sample in history’s long long, curve towards better societies. And here is a far left philosopher that argued a similar thing:1 point -

We influence and affect so many people. I think we should all be aware of the bigger picture. Anyway thank you. Did he? During the primaries? No the HRC camp it seems from wikileaks emails had him as a "pied piper" candidate - for them to take seriously. And seriously they did. My vari-ND lives on the cam when using log. However, after reading @kidzrevil's posts I've recently been playing with EOS Cinema Standard, where the problem doesn't really occur much as you can shoot as low as 160 ISO - the results are actually really nice (and FilmConvert has the correct profile) - I'm starting to think that log should really only be used in the situations where that extra DR is needed. There's supposed to be a firmware update coming that will add Canon Log 2 & 3, so I guess we'll see what happens then! My only other tip would be that if you're shooting scenes with lots of movement it's generally best to use push-to-focus in manual focus mode, as the focus tends to wander in auto as the camera picks up faces.1 point -

Hey, months ago I get the same lens with the same problem, unfortunately I didn´t accept the deal with the seller, which was that I had to send it back to him and pay the shipping, and I kept the lens hoping I would be abble to service it myself. Nothing "normal" worked. I can´t get a focused image in the gh4 and I did some experiments. This is not that the image is soft, it is not focused. Now the lens is servicing in a lens specialized, but they called me saying they don´t know how to repair it. Any advice? I can send it to a trusted servicing that you recomend, I can not sell or use it now so only way is to try to fix it. Thank you very much in advance!1 point -
A successor to D750 will most certainly have 4k, since D750 has been positioned to be a good allrounder for photos & videos. Sooner or later they will add 4k to the APS-C models below D500, but according to Nikonrumors.com it doesn't seem like there's any 4k in D5600 (and his sources are usually correct). I wouldn't expect 4k in Nikon's APS-C cameras until early spring 2017 at least. I'd expect the next Nikon camera to be released with 4k would be a D750 successor.1 point
