have you guys used the new touchbar? ive spent some time with it and imo it is THE stupidest gimmick. dont get me wrong, a mbp is still a mbp... touchbar doesnt add any functionality... it just makes me want to TOUCH THE SCREEN. The ACTUAL SCREEN. its like appl engineers came up with the laziest possible way to have a 'touch screen computer' lmao

The filmic look comes from dynamic range, but unfortunately not all cameras have enough to have that filmic look, therefore we raise the black levels to mimic that style. Its a stylistic choice, I dont like vibrant looks, to me, thats as vibrant as I would go. But I dont think its the cameras fault, its as versatile as any other camera. This is a friends work, also with NX1 : I think the NX1 has a much more pleasing look than any of the sonys for example, specially after trying my new a7sII, its very easy to have terrible skin tones.

I did also... So I bought a maxed out Surface Book. Then I tried to use it to edit some 4k video. After that I packed it neatly back into its box and returned it. The SB is a nice computer, and I much prefer "Hello Windows" to Apple's "Touch ID". But when you buy the Mac you are paying both for hardware and well optimized software. And the latter justifies the price. That said my fully spec'd MBP late 2016 model has been on order since the 15th of November, and it still reads as "Processing" at BHPhoto. Would love it if I had some clue when I might actually receive my unit.

Auto exposure, manual exposure, ND-filters, exposure tips, exposure tools, different exposing styles and looks, old rules and new ways, etc. Not about favorite lenses or audio or only for very talented film makers. @Jon Jacobs Auto-ISO in M mode is a frequently requested feature among still photographers, and many other camera manufacturers have had it for a long time. It has a number of useful applications. For example, when shooting sports on a field with some variation in light (shadows in an area of the field), you could set your shutter speed to capture the action without motion blur, aperture to ensure enough DOF, and allow the camera to adjust ISO for a proper exposure. And if you can accept that auto exposure (P, S, or A mode) is ever acceptable for videography, then surely you could think of a use for it in video. Set shutter speed at 1/50, aperture for whatever DOF you're looking for, and then allow the camera to moderate ISO to keep a proper exposure. But it seems like you're of the mind that any time someone is shooting video with a DSLR they can NEVER use any form of auto exposure in any circumstance. I think that's a bit short sighted, but I guess you feel pretty strongly about it.

I did some test with the Gamma & Density chart then pulled it into resolve to see what was happening with different settings. The GX85 was set to Standard profile. Each picture is labled with the different settings. You can see what happens when you change the settings.This set is changing contrast.

Hello all Gear Acquisition Syndrome sufferers, I would say that I don't have this disease, but I usually want a piece of gear because I feel there's a need for it. Currently I have an FS5 with EF lenses, and a DJI X5R Osmo - the latter of which I'm thinking of selling (for an actual gimbal like the Letus Helix Jr). I'm not really getting what I want from the Osmo (limited movement) and I don't have a stills camera, because I sold them. (Sony and Panasonic cameras). I'm drawn to the Canon 1DX II because of the DPAF and 4k60p for gimbals and motion slider shots. The autofocus and 4k60p combination would really help me out (better camera movement, better focusing, high quality, increased production value = more profit). The stills capability would be bloody great too. I have the money to get the 1DX II, but then again I want to upgrade my car. Been having these weird thoughts about buying the Canon 1DX II, making my money back quickly, recouping the funds and then upgrading my car. Sounds perfect, but we all know it isn't as simple as that. I'd get the camera in a heartbeat if I knew I could make my money back quickly. So i could get the car upgrade later. What do you think? (p.s, if you suffer with GAS - please be mindful I believe in money well spent rather than impulsive, expensive mistakes).

It's a no brainer... You've been on the fence with the 1DXMk2 for quite some time. The 1DXMk2 is not a camera you need to second guess. It is 100% professional and will get the job done. DJI cameras are still a work in progress. Granted I do like the potential of the X5S, but I would wait until the smoke settles before committing to that. Also, flagship Canons do not become obsolete evey six months like Sonys do. So you can be assured of decent resale within the next few years. Plus you already own Canon glass. Trust me, having used the A7RMk2 and A7Mk2 with the Metabones, I can tell you with absolute confidence that Canon glass performs best on a native Canon body. Take the plunge, you will be happy you did.

Personally I like to set ISO/SA(180)/f5.6/8 and ride the ND using a combination of zebras and waveform (@Stanley - the SLR Magic one is ace!). When I'm using my Shogun Flame I'm almost confident enough to do it by eyeball - I said almost. Dunno who made you thread boss, Jon, but you seem to have issues that might be better off kept private.

I am trying to match the GX85 to my Canon 70d. I love the colors that the Canon produces. I have found on the GX85 that Standard +4 -5 -5 0 Highlights -2 Shadows +2 I dynamic off comes close. On the Canon I am using Vision Color Profile sharpness 2 Contrast -1 Saturation 0 Color Tone -1 I am flying the GX85 on a steady cam and needed them to match to save time in post. Testing highlights and shadows. Compairing hignlights -2 or -3 shadows +2 or +3 I am liking -3 +3

Here Here! Goes without saying... Think I've said it all in my previous posts, but lets be clear about this once & for all - this is NOT an Iscorama, not by a long shot! It's a focus through & NOT a single focus anamorphic attachment like a true Iscorama, which will focus from 2m to Infinity. If it works like the Isco Widescreen 2000, then it does produce really nice images but it's a PITA to use. I came on this thread initially to warn people about this lens - there's a lot of bad info about these sorts of lenses. So, lets be clear about it - the 2000 will not focus to infinity, not now, not ever. It's blurred & not in focus. The 2000 is fixed at 5m & it's focus through range is from 4m-6m, at best. When you're filming with it things will kinda look in focus, but if you zoom in it's soft/blurry. Project your footage on a big screen & you'll have a fit/curse the day you ever believed this was a good purchase. However, if you get some diopters & stick to the 5m mark on your taking lens, then you can change it's focus range - you can also use different lens for close-ups & wides etc... At 5m it's stunning, everything else is meeeeeeh!

And you need dongles for everything... maybe time to join the dark side? I like the Surface Book as a concept. But... I think I'll end up with another Asus or MSI once there's a couple of interesting choices with new Nvidia 10x0-series graphics.

5DmkIII ML RAW? Not exactly a cinema camera or ticking the boxes. But Andrii's stuff for example I just really like... It seems to compliment your appreciation for what Canon's doing and that 'soft, clean, smooth cinematic feel to the image' in combination with the bitdepth you're after. Trading in some specs on paper for pleasant results.

imo no, for an english speaking audience i would avoid those words. im tryin to produce something catchy for you but im having trouble coming up with something better than or Invite Clips... hmmm. I agree with @hyalinejim that 'invite' sounds better than 'invitation'.... what i really want is a synonym for invitation~! and i cant think of one~! i would also suggest having a fairly illustrative element in your logo more or less explaining what the business does the general public's lack of video terminology knowledge combined with a dearth of synonyms for 'invitation' makes this a little challenging

I think not. AAE is an ancient software that could be rewritten from scratch, because there are more elegant ways of representing layers on a timeline. But few complain, because they know the program, and it works just fine as it is, it's reliable. Merging PP and AAE (and make the jackalope an expensive Hitfilm) would scare off the faithful clients. Don't you think? The problem is that PP has too many old and redundant features and over the decades became bloatware. But PP imo should be rewritten to seamlessly include the functionality of Prelude. Organizing media within PP is so marginal. Wiki: As I see it, these are all core tasks of an NLE. None of them should be awkward clunky processes.

F3 seems to tick the most of your boxes. 10-bit 4:4:4, insane DR, excellent in low light, 60p, great motion cadence, impressive battery life, XLRs, and can be had for ~$1500. Otherwise, the Kinemini with 4K upgrade will fulfill most of your wish list, although its low light performance isn't up to the F3's standard.

Hey man. I liked this a lot and it got me interested in the whole story, so the trailer's main goal succeeds with me :-) It also showcases a lot of technical skill and polish (aerial shots, editing, grading and varied camera work/movements). If there's anything to critique, I'd second @mercer's point. The antagonist / danger is somewhat unclear at the moment we see her hiding (0:47-0:51) so perhaps a slight reorder might be even more effective. Another thing I realized when I watched it again, is that we only hear the score. Some ambient sound could elevate tension even more (running footsteps, breathing, screaming etcetera). But I realize that adds a bunch of work... Keep us posted on your progress, looks great!

Cheers. The Sony F3 produces stunning results, but I'm looking to shoot 2x anamorphic w/ a 2.66 delivery, as such, need the extra resolution to compensate for cropping - and as we know, the F3 only shoots 2K.

Would it be impossible for Mitakon to make a Lens Turbo with interchangeable rear mounts, being as they are just dumb adaptors of slightly different lengths. Going with the EF version, and finding 3rd party adaptors to F, MD, M42 etc seems a bit kludgy.

Perhaps it's the i/o controller and sd that heat up that much? I noticed the sd being really warm after 8-10 minutes of recording at 180mbit.

120-140-160 I believe is best for hard disk drive space/camera heating (mine gets really warm)-sensor annihilation/file problems created. For casual use and time long projects I do not even bother. Otto is Gandalf the Grey, Kino Seed is Frodo Baggins, and Vasile was that human Boromir(?) that his pride and recklessness made him vurnable to the Ring's power. He also dies at the end of the first movie! The pitty is, we need more allies from the elves and dwarfs, for Otto the White evolution, and the lonely Kino hobbit carry the ring further; so maybe there wont be 2 or 3.

Thanks, I only bought it recently from ebay seller Mario Gorlas (die_bitsbox http://www.ebay.de/usr/die_bitsbox?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2754). He had it serviced by a former film technician. They met each other at WDR station, where he also used to service analog film cutting tables. He's also familiar with anamorphics and now services all of Marios lenses. I would not know how to open the Bolex but I can tell from my recent experiences with the Rectimascop that front and rear elements are correctly aligned (...that's the case if the horizontal flares of front and back lens are parallel and the image is perfectly sharp also if you look directly through the lens). The Rectimascop is a great lens to learn such things as it's very simple to disassemble. Also the focus marks of the Bolex hit precisely.

"Invite" is also used informally as a noun that means "invitation". Video invite sounds better to me than video invitation.

Hey all. Thank you for your comments. After much research and posts on multiple forums, I went with the OWC 16tb thunderbolt and configured it to raid5 using soft raid. It seems to be the best bang for your buck with good user ratings. So far, working on it a few weeks, it has been an absolutely god send. Editing is no longer a pain. No need for proxies, especially coupled w the iMac 5k + 32gb ram and internal SSD. NOW I can work uninterrupted!!!!!!

GH4 4K files dont have that big a bandwith compared to prores for example - that would put more stress on the hard drives. However since they are encoded in H264, they require a lot of cpu power.
