Don't know where someone said that Sony, Fuji or Oly performs less than a Panasonic. I guess we can all agree that they've always been a little behind on juicyness of the image; just can't squeeze as much out of a smaller sensor, simple as that. But that's not the point. It's being completely oblivious to that and going with it anyways, because it's by far a more productive camera and arguably the better value. Panasonics are workable and you can get some really lovely results with them. Being more attracted to the GH5 than the X-T2, E-M1 Mark II or A6500, doesn't make you a fanboy anything, so I don't really get the 'being attacked, defend!'-mode. Doesn't mean you think the image trumps all else. Just means you really like what it does nontheless and have the confidence that you can make it work. And remember not everyone has the resources to pull off a two camera inventory.6 points

In that case, please make a GH5 without ibis, so people who dont want ibis can have a GH5 cheaper. V-log is just a software update not even hardware. Everybody has already bought it for their GH4 to extend the GH4 life, now we need to buy it again on a brand new camera....? Well maybe were speaking too soon, lets wait on the actual broadcast.3 points -
I dont know, I would have to test that again. Could try to do so this weekend. I bought a Tiffen Ultra Contrast Filter as 37mm Version. Then i took a metall saw and removed the filter housing very carefully, so that I ended up with just the glas. At first I had the impression that it might be too thick, but when I put it inside the speedbooster it doesnt touch the speedbooster glas because it is a bit larger than it. The glas of the rear element of the Sigma lens doesnt protrude as well. Anyways, I put the glas inside the speedbooster and then carefully mounted the sigma lens - no issue at all. The filterglas stays at its place - seems to be a perfect fit.3 points

Tons of problems with new Macbook Pro
kaylee and one other reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
Bit of a warning from James Miller: "The MacBook Pro touch bar has to be the worst Apple product I have ever purchased. £3,329.00 for endless crashes using Adobe CC products, renders that crash the graphics card resulting in green screen, lockups. The touch bar and the actual keys I really don't seem to be feeling the love for. Everything sounds angry whilst typing with these noisy keys. Fed up with pressing multiple times on the touchbar to adjust screen brightness and volume. Default layouts are rubbish on the touch bar and even when configured don't really do anything useful. Been an Apple user for ever but thats the last Mac I'm going to buy unless they produce something that actually works. 2.5hrs to render a 3 min red film on old MacBook Pro (2 years old) it takes just a few minutes." Sounds like between Adobe and Apple they have managed to truly embarrass themselves.2 points -

What I think is unfair is the fact that GH4 users that already paid for VLOG need to pay again if they want it on GH5. Panasonic should at least provide a reduced "upgrade" price.2 points -

It was a paid upgrade before so it's nothing new, sony charges 500dollar for a 4K upgrade on their x70. Panasonic has always released their camera's at a very competitive pricepoint and cheaper then the competition so even with the VLOG upgrade it's still very good value for money, also, not everyone needs or wants VLOG and for those who do it's 100 dollar which is peanuts.2 points -

Keeping the price as low as possible on the GH5 (don't most people hate Vlog?) and making Vlog a paid upgrade is preferable it seems...or is there anyone here who would prefer to pay say $2200 and get Vlog included!...does it not make sense to give people who don't like it, the option to not pay for it? WTF!!...I use and love Vlog personally...what I find dizzying is all the discussions on this and that camera and what will beat what on a camera that has'nt even released yet...anyway, IMO the image one can produce on the GH4 shooting with lights...production value crew etc. is already excellent!...in other words as if you're shooting with an F35 or Alexa or Red cam!...what I want is reliability, so the camera does not fail me on a set!...of course everyone's needs are different, but the rumors on the GH5 already has anticipation high!2 points -

Wow that's Canon logic, upgrade the camera to 10 bit 422 to improve vlog quality and then don't include vlog. Panasonic, sort it out, this is your top of the range camera, both Canon and Sony have log in cheaper models. This is a mistake on your part.2 points -
Panasonic G85 review - is there any need to get an Olympus E-M1 Mark II for video?
Stanley and one other reacted to Fredrik Lyhne for a topic
Haha, I the guess the tripod has some value after all Love the IBIS though! If you look closely at my video the focus is on the forehead and cheeks while the nose and chin is slightly off. It may not matter but it would have been a better test with a smaller aperture. It's great to see other people test/footage and compare them to our own. To learn from each others "faults" and discuss these things is very valuable to me. Thanks for sharing!2 points -
Valid argument, thanks! Maybe the GH5 is shit, but neither you or I can tell until its out in the wild.2 points

Production Dairy - Using Hacked NX1 and NX500 on YouTube Channel
lucabutera and one other reacted to Drew Veeneman for a topic
WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! I noticed one of my footage files from the NX1 dropped frames today. It was a single isolated incident. At first I thought my non-linear editor was crapping out... but I traced it all the back to the original H265 file from my NX1. I'll describe what it looked like for the good of the community. It occurred during a 8 minute clip with my camera running at the 180 bit rate. At about 3:45, the white balance jumped in a weird way and then five seconds of frames dropped. I could tell because I had to re-sync the audio and patch the hole with my C camera. Following the glitch, the camera continued recording to the file without anymore issues. The NX1 only did this once during my long shoot with 13 clips and about 100 GB worth of footage. My conclusion from this is the 180 bit rate presents some risk with my SD cards... My setup is almost reliable. I think I'll dial it back to the 175 bit rate next time.2 points -

If the GH5 was shipping now, I would seriously sell off a lot of lenses to buy it. I love IBIS, but by the time it ships I should be about done, so the GH4 it is. Yeah that Noam Kroll beach video is what sold me on the 200mbps 1080p. The All-I seems to handle motion just a tad better than IPB and since I am working on a crime thriller, that motion is really important. Thanks for helping me out with the test. Btw, I usually shoot handheld with the strap method (keeping it taut and my elbows pressed to my sides) If you have a strap for the test, that would be great.1 point -

Sure thing! Will be fun to go out and shoot a little! It's getting dark here really fast but I will see if I can get it done by tomorrow. I see what you're saying about the GH4, I guess you've already seen Noam Kroll's 1080p 60p shoot on the beach? It still looks really good! And your reasons for not buying the G85 is actually some of the same reasons I will be getting the GH5 over the G85. The G line is really good now, but I just love the handling, size and controls of the GH cameras, + high bitrate 1080p, slow motion, headphone jack, battery life etc.1 point -

I don't see anything mentioning H.265 there. Just plain MP4. What I see is: * We still can't record DCI 4K in 25p or 30p (to have some horizontal wiggle room when delivering UHD) * We still can't record anything internally when outputting 10Bit on the HDMI port. This likely also means still no Wifi remote control and likely no scopes when recording externally. (The missing Wifi really hurts.) * All the nicer bitrates are for bandwidth-hungry All-I MP4 and regular IPB that makes efficient use of that bandwidth is crippled to 100/150Mbps. No ProRes or DNxHD that can be edited without transcoding unless you add a Shogun or Ninja Flame. * no build in flash to carry it around and a "small" photo camera all these OTHER times. On the plus side: * screw-in HDMI cable holder is included * better denoise and anti-rolling shutter by processing previous frames * IBIS * program 3 focus point and have smooth transitions in 5 speeds. * more slow motion options1 point -

"Like many other recent cameras the GH5 also has a built in stereo mic. What’s different is that it has an extra little internal mic that acts as a reference to cancel and reduce noise." Is this a counter noise tech for IBIS hissing? Same battery as GH4. Good. I have 6.1 point

@Neumann Films Million dollar question: can you zoom in to check focus while recording? Can you monitor VLOG recording in REC709? Is there really a waveform monitor implemented?1 point -
A lot of recorders record a safety track at a slightly lower volume. The new Tascam DR 10L also records a safety track at at lover volume (I am guessing the difference must be 10 dB or so, not too sure or one could probably chose the difference in recording volumes). https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1281085-REG/tascam_dr_10l_mini_portable_recorder.html1 point

Yes. Here is one example. If you look around you will find plenty of cases with broken articulating screens. This is not specific to Panasonic cameras, I just consider the hinge of an articulating screen the weakest point of a camera.1 point -

Fredrik Lyhne reacted to mercer for a topic
Thanks Fredrik! A test on the GH3 would be great if you have the time. For this particular project I am working on I will be using the full zoom range as it will be more about framing and composition based upon my location to the subject. I will mostly be standing still but maybe a slight drift back and forth but it depends on how well the OIS does. I really thought about the G80/85, but I find the high bitrate 1080 at 24p and 60p to be such a thick image, but specifically the slow motion of 60p and the ability to use shutter angle instead of shutter speed will really help me keep everything straight with the run and gun nature of the project. And although I will be recording double sound, I'd like to try and get some usable ambient tracks in camera and the headphone input will really help sort that out.1 point -
