Download the raw files from Neumann films. In particular the one where he walks around the waterfall. Put a 5% warp stabiliser on it. Be amazed.2 points

Don't trust auto-focus for anything critical, even if you can see the image momentarily magnified. Again, seeing raw stills could help, as those images should bypass a lot of the in-camera image processing.2 points

MJPEG (5DMK4 VS 1DC)
webrunner5 reacted to Dunjoye for a topic
Thanks guys, Yeah, I have decided to settle for the the 1DC. I will probably do same as treb999 and upgrade to the 1DXii later down the line. Thanks Andrew. I have been following this forum for years but never posted. Some great reviews over the years.1 point -
I need A7s3 !!
Kisaha reacted to Mattias Burling for a topic
Big Sony fan. Have made very positive Sony reviews. Loved the A7, FS100, RX100, RX100ii, Nex-5. Liked the A7ii, a6000, Z3. Could live with the A7sii, if I could get one at half price. That banding does not justify $3K. Super disappointed by the a6300 and RX100iv. Biggest issue is that they sell broken stuff and say its supposed to be that way. Overhype their own specs. And the lovely colors of the fs100, f3, f35 has been replaced by puke. All imo of course. I can still see the appeal. Totally respect people who likes them. No camera is perfect. Wouldn't mind owning a RX1.1 point -
I thought both shot in C-log looked very similar after grading and the 1dc downscaled. I think the c100 has more detail than the 1dc even in 4k though; they are different animals. They both have that MOJO for sure though.1 point

I think the A7s7 is really gonna be the sweet spot1 point

Vintage lenses are enjoyable on modern cameras. Really takes the edge off if you're going for a less clinical image. I've just shot a series wherein the a-cam was usually an old FD 55mm 1.2 on a cheap Chinese speedbooster. It can be a flawed image when you really look at it closely, but that's fine when it's what one wants. It's "character." I can typically rationalize imaging stuff like that. And FD and Nikkor lenses on a dumb adapter look awesome regardless. (as long as not used wide open) I've also dabbled in Pentax stuff, which has been a lot of fun. Just depends on what one's going for, I suppose.1 point

MJPEG (5DMK4 VS 1DC)
Dunjoye reacted to Francesco Spiezia for a topic
I was waiting patiently for the 5D IV to be met with major disappointment ... Just grabbed two 1DCs for work and I am very happy. I worked with the 1DXii but honestly we dont record in 60 and have no need for auto focus. I prefer to have the Clog and also really love being able to change the crop in 1080 when needed. I also like the 'look' of the 1DC as it just says film to me over some of the other options total personal preference. Its a large codec but when you go in and pull a 4K frame you will see why. I have worked with the Sony A7 line and in low light the images pulled look blah... Andrew has offered us an excellent Clog alternative which we are using on the 1DCs so we can match our 5Ds when needed. I think the 1DXii is awesome but for me I really love the 1DC.1 point -
MJPEG (5DMK4 VS 1DC)
Shield3 reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
This is a complete no-brainer. The 1D C is the one to go for if you want the best 4K. The sensor crop of the 5D Mark IV and poor low light performance kill it. The only reason to even consider it is Dual pixel AF. The 1D C is also a MUCH better stills camera, with a pro body - which means build quality is in a different league altogether.1 point -

i-Zoom works for stills without an i-Zoom lense if controlled from app nx. Would be more useful if we got it to work with video. Do you have any experience if it's supposed to work on video?1 point

Panasonic G7 or Sony a6300 for feature film

The the extra cost with lack of any significant improvement over the g7 other than stabilization which isnt a worry of mine. The extra cost of the a6300 almost seems worth it unless people think otherwise1 point -
[SHORT REVIEW] Feelworld FW760 7" Field Monitor
Ronnie Amighetti reacted to elgabogomez for a topic
I have the 760 without the update so all it can ingest is 1080, and even in hd there is a latency issue where the image lags and you could see a kind of divided image where it resolves the top third of the frame then the middle then the bottom, sometimes it´s just half the frame... I´ve learned to live with it since is the cheapest monitor with an anamorphic desqueeze mode. Do you know where can we get the firmware update? It would be helpful for focus.1 point -
It's not that my g80 is too soft on it's own, it's too soft compared to my other panasonic camera's and the difference was noticeable if I shot side by side, since the intention is that I use my 3 panasonic camera's on a shoot I either have to dial the sharpness down on my other camera's and turn the sharpness up on my g80 in order to make them match. I have to see first how noticeable it is in real life shooting instead of pixel peeping that I"m doing now.1 point

[SHORT REVIEW] Feelworld FW760 7" Field Monitor
Ronnie Amighetti reacted to dosdan for a topic
Ronnie, in regards to the latency, since this is a 1080p monitor in which the firmware has been updated to handle 4K input, the long latency may be due to the performance of the in-monitor scaler. Have you tried setting the HDMI output from the camera to 1080p and seeing if the latency improves? I would not be surprised if the in-camera's scaler performance for 1080p HDMI output is superior to that of the monitor's. Also, selecting "P2P" will disable the in-monitor scaler and 1920x1080 input should then appear on the 1920x1200 LCD monitor with small black bars above & below. This setup should produce the least latency. Latency is important to me because I shoot soccer with a HC-750. I've tried to use a Lippitut 7" 5DII (480p) with this camera. It's OK for framing the action, but the res is too low to closely observe the action. (It works better for semi-static athletics like High-Jump and it's nice to have in the field for review purposes when working with a coach.) Even with its supplied hood, the reflectivity of the Lilliput's screen is very high and wearing a cap only helps a little. Have you tried the FW-760 outside yet in bright sunshine? What is the Firmware version in your monitor, so we can see if later revisions appear? Dan.1 point -
Mark II gives 60p, which was the only real achillies heel of the first version I think.1 point

Petition for Samsung NX1 hack
lucabutera reacted to Blah Blah for a topic
I was playing around with settings on NX1: I noticed I could set colorspace to Galaxy: [root@drime5 ~]# st cap capdtm setusr 48 3145730 UserData is set [root@drime5 ~]# st cap capdtm getusr 48 UserData is COLORSPACE_GALAXY (0x300002) Whatever that is, the other ones were SRGB and AdobeRGB ----------------------- I could use the iZoom feature: [root@drime5 ~]# st cap capdtm getusr 67 UserData is IZOOM_X1 (0x430000) There were multiple zoom factors, it zooms on the LCD screen but the photos don't show it and it didn't work with video, maybe with some settings it could work. ------------------------ I could set the burst rate to 30fps. [root@drime5 ~]# st cap capdtm setusr 10 655360 UserData is set [root@drime5 ~]# st cap capdtm getusr 10 UserData is BURSTRATE_RATE30FPS (0xa0000) It shoots with burst but I don't think the camera did 30fps, sounded like 15fps.1 point -
The DXOMark results from the E-M1ii also seems to suggest a base ISO of 400 as there is no additional DR at ISO200. https://www.dxomark.com/Reviews/Olympus-OM-D-E-M1-Mark-II-sensor-review-New-standard1 point

Doubt it. A gimbal will still be essential for sweeping and moderate moving shots. The combo of gimbal and a powerful IBIS will be excellent.1 point -
NO!!! Digital Bolex has stopped making cameras!
TrueIndigo reacted to mercer for a topic
Congrats on finishing your artwork, and good luck with the pitches. I am currently doing the same with a half dozen scripts I rough drafted over the past five years. I bought a 50D a few months back for a couple hundred bucks and the image still astounds me. I took the easy route and process the footage through ML Raw Viewer directly to prores but even with a little less latitude in post, and no sound, it mops the floor with any image in that price category. I hope to get a mark iii at the end of this year or in 2018 when the used prices drop a touch more... beautiful image. Please report back when you have some footage to share. Even a shot similar to that one you posted from the RX a while back... I think it was your dog's head out the car window? Good stuff.1 point -
Canon XC10 4K camcorder
Justin Bacle reacted to mercer for a topic
Idk, cameras aren't supposed to look good at 3200 ISO, that's why they make lights. I was getting clean results up to 1600 ISO, which was a first for me with any camera I have owned, but I still never used it... I'd light for native ISO in c-log... but everyone's different with different needs. And I don't know what kind of camera budget you have but I can't afford a camera that loses about 40% of its value less than two months after I bought it.1 point -
XAVC is such a good codec, it doesn't need 10-bit desperately. Do you really think that the 10-bit of the GH5 is automatically better? I don't see any evidence for this so far. What I expect is a camera that just has so many good features that it will be a joy to shoot video with it. EDIT: ... and I really don't think Sony is going to cannibalize their FS7 by making their hybrids 10-bit. But who knows. The Alpha-series should actually be called the Beta-series. The minute you hold a brand new model in your hands, the successor is presented at a trade show, and it's successor is boxed in the factory (slightly exaggerated).1 point

SLR Magic Anamorphot 2x vs Kowa 16H

16-H and SLR Magic Rangefinder.1 point -
Yea, you can get a faster lens, or switch to a booster system, but sometimes you need a deeper-than-two-inch DOF, though... and that's when high (6400+) ISO performance becomes irreplaceable. Shooting a naturally-dim/dark scene at F8 with very little noise is a unique look, and really only the Sonys can do it right now.1 point
