Thanks. IBIS really works well with the 20mm. This was shot using the Standard profile; in post I slightly tweaked the WB in some shots and altered luminance and some curves. I do not know what ISO was used; in this light aperture is wide open, shutter speed is fixed and thus all my exposure control was via ISO, and I exposed based on matching what I saw in the scene to what the viewfinder was showing.

I've been a Panasonic user since the GH2 and each upgrade has been fantastic. They've successfully delivered worthwhile improvements in every area of function and image and seem to really listen to their user base. It's an exciting yet reliable system to be a part of. The GH5 looks certain it will continue this trend and two areas of promising improvement seem to be low light and colour given the current videos (an area where Canon has historically had the edge). However, like @Flynn says, a lot of Canon users love the colour science and can't let it go despite the cameras lacking functionality and features. If that specific mojo inspires you to make films then you may struggle with a switch to Panasonic. How do you use your cameras? For earning money, for filmmaking on the side, or a mixture of both? I use them for both so the practicality and features of the Panasonics win the day. I think I would feel like I had one arm tied behind my back if I tried making a living as videographer with a 1DC now. My other thought, was that if your dream is to clear your debts and get to LA (not far off mine!) then I would be making all my decisions based on what would get me there faster. At the end of the day, mojo, lowlight, codecs, and all the jazz we are all guilty of getting sucked into on this forum, are secondary to having a great idea, writing it and shooting it. If you've got something dynamite, it can be shot on anything and other factors such as writing, lighting, acting and editing will be what get your piece noticed. Final thought, networking in LA will probably advance your career more than any camera ;-)

My point exactly! Accept for the last part. Your knowledge can definitely protect you from hardware flaws in the same way it protects you from the horrible consequences of using camera A over camera B. My point is: The shooter is the key. Learn how to shoot and use light and almost any camera will do. But learn your cameras pros and cons so you can work with and around them. Get the camera that suits your needs. Every camera out there, every single one, has huge deal breaking flaws. You just have to pick the once you can live with

That's a complicated question. At the highest setting there's a benefit. Whether you'll see it or not is an entirely different question. At high ISOs it makes a difference and with some very high detail scenes it can, too. Below 422 HQ I think AVCHD is better. It's cleaner than the lower prores flavors, that's how good it is, or how bad Atomos' prores implementation is.

@kidzrevil that video above sums up for me how I feel about the XC10. In good light, like the outdoors shots, the camera gives a lovely image which can be pushed quite hard in grading. But when light is low, the image is not good - it's mushy, falls apart in the grade, colour rendition suffers and ghosting is a PITA. For what kidzrevil needs to do - fashion, music vids, etc. - image quality is paramount and the XC10 doesn't cut the mustard. For more casual stuff like travel vids and documentation it's absolutely fine. I promised to post a few frame grabs to show off what the camera can do when conditions are right. The weather was great the other day so we went for a walk. I brought along the XC10 as I wanted to check out how an X-Rite Colorchecker might improve colour separation using MBR Color Corrector 2 plugin for AE (it did help). No look LUTs here. Everything is EOS Standard, corrected for colour using the X-Rite, and a simple white balance, contrast and saturation adjustment.

Looking at his site and videos it seems he can control both EF and NX lenses via Arduino. To me it seems he could be very close in making an active adapter if he has time and motivation.

Is it impossible at this stage to make an electronic adapter? Techart Pro with electric connection to lens for stabiliser would be amazing, its no point if the electronic lens is not activated and it just adjusted it as if was a manual lens, there was a guy who managed to make the Samsung communicate with Canon lenses with a conversion board.

This is the video that convinced me to get the Zhiyun for the A6500. I think it's the best gimbal you can buy, when considering price / performance. It's an absolute joy to use, especially with the A6500 autofocus voodoo.

@andrgl Sure...Some of it, at least...Shot last weekend with the 5dm3 and the stellar 300mm F2.8 at the WorldCup Grand Prix in LElPZlG (Germany) - only altered ownership and serial number in EXIF because of privacy... And now one with the phantastic 17-40mm F4 USM lens...That's me in a composition (shooting against light and exposing ETTR) visualizing the flaws of the 5D mX: ZERO dynamic range (compared with Nikon / Sony sensors), no shadows can be recovered in post, because dark tones getting noisy as hell, etc....OK, when carrying reflectors and wireless HSS + strobes with you, it should work...But at this time our Sherpas were on vacation... ;-) Shooting more than 1.000.000 stills and more than 800 hours of film, I could say to have some experience...Even considering that I still go to school and do digital imaging as "professional hobby"....So, it's not necessary to enlighten me about Canon DSLRs advantages and flaws... @andrgl & @hmcindie If you would have seriously shooted video with the D750 (1.700 Euro) and the D8xx (about 2.500 Euro), you would have to admit, that even these two DSLRs offer by far more 1080p quality than any much more expensive Canon DSLR...So, no reason to advocate Canons mushy 720p packed in 1080p marketing bla bla... ;-) BTW: Put the 300mm 2.8 or the 400mm 2.8 with a cheap 20 Euro adapter on the 1.300 Euro NX1, shoot (stills & 1080p video) and compare with the 5d m3 (up to 300 ISO)...You will be shocked, how the NX1 (APS-C) blows the 5d m3 away...A cheap APS-C camera blowing a expensive FF flagship away...In stills and 1080p video (again: in stills up to 300 ISO)... @kidzrevil Well said, and so true...It's all about content and an impeccable IQ, corresponding to todays "industrial" standards...When doing serious work, it's about delivering best possible quality...For your clients, for your targeted audience and/or for your own eyes. He had huge hands and the camera was not a good device for this guy...But a good deal for us...First I will take it to a buddy of mine (electronics and hardware programming freak) to make some changes - making the cam to not overheat at all...After that, I will begin shooting with it and sending the footage to a professional colorist, who promised me to help in fundamental Sony colour grading/correction (mainly skin tones, greens and sky gradations to avoid banding and other artifacts with a 4:2:0 8bit footage). GH5 hands down. neuman raw footage proved good color can easily be get from GH5. GH5 has millions of advantage over 1DC which is a old piece of tech. Put a 42.5mm 1.2 Leica on the GH and tell me about mojo

Well, I didn't say he said it was horrid. I said he said something like that. In his recent review of the G85 he said this: "I didn’t expect to like it when it came out. On paper and on the shelf it looks a bit boring. There’s Panasonic’s colour science, which is dreadful and a bit like what Sony do. Nothing like a Canon." So, there you have it. He called Panasonic's color science "dreadful." Now, we can debate the weight of these words, but neither "horrid" nor "dreadful" are what anyone would call complementary. Nicht Wahr?

Probably at the same time when pigs can fly, you just need to be patient. Why not focus on what is available today, hoping for things that might never happen will only frustrate you. If I understand you right, you have a 1DX mk II, XC-15 and C300 Mk II? Why would you even consider getting a GH5?

Yup, 12-bit on BMPCC. Actually it is now possible to record both 12- and 10-bit raw on the 5D3. However, its still at an experimental stage, but will potentially be two really nice features!

I see your point and respect it. I enjoy testing cameras and attempting to find one that fits perfectly with my style and plans. So far, I have not found the perfect match. But I really hope people do not listen to a word I say about anything, even if I knew everything... which I obviously don't. Look at specs, look at samples and then if they are still unsure, rent one or purchase from somewhere that has a good return policy. All I can say about the XC10 is that I really enjoyed the camera and had to push it to a high ISO to see the ghosting. Or it's very possible you guys have better eyes and standards than I do. For what it is, a native ISO point and shoot cinema camera, I think a lot of filmmakers could do worse.

I've used the Zhiyun Crane on 2 shoots now with the A6500 - and it's the first time ever that I've been really pleased with a camera / gimbal combo. The Zhiyun is a beast and operates brilliantly. Works very well with the A6500 autofocus. The only real downside is that the A6500 doesn't have 4k60p, the 1080 60p is just ok, so I'd say it really depends on the GH5's autofocusing capability. I'm covered for cameras, the GH5 would be a treat if anything. How long until we see 4K 60p in Sony cameras? (But it likely won't be 10 bit in a firmware upgrade!)

There is a damn big void in Cameras, in the 2500 to 4000 Dollar price range, new or used ,that can do 4k. Black Magic only one that has more than anyone that has a quality output.

Not sure I would part with a 1DC for a GH5. The image from the 1DC looks great. But I would certainly consider it as a B-cam.

Last week the DOP of Laconia, a well received BBC TV mini (not the German voiced over talking heads edit!!:) gave us the honour and pleasure to stop by at our school. One of the things he told us how much of a pain shooting on 35mm was and how modern cameras allow you to get away with so much. He also said, that a lot of what we remember regarding the 35mm look is due to its scanning process and digital projection and distribution. With the GH5, just don´t go higher than 1250 or 1600 and you will be in wonderland:)

I had no intentions of getting another one - long story short one was offered to me with 4 batteries, a 18-135 STM, the box and all accessories for $1950 cash. All legit with receipts. I couldn't jump on it fast enough - it was the Mark II and the seller was a professional photog - just needed rid of it. I have felt somewhat guilty, but he told me he priced it half off just to move it. Twice in my camera buying career I've gotten very, very lucky - last year was a XC-10 with 2 256 GB CFast cards for $1200. Otherwise, I normally take a bloodbath / beating buying and selling gear.

We were recording live events for decades. I do that so many times every year and I have never use a A7s for such a job, usually these venues have some kind of lighting anyway, or else they do not want the crowds to see anything. I am just amazed that people these days believe that with no IBIS, and no A7s, you are doomed to oblivion. I face every day a market that expects from one person to do lights, camera, sound, edit, sound editing, grading, driving, droning, everything. It is not right.

Will give you a concrete idea of what to aim for. Some of the examples in this thread are very poor, as has already been pointed out - the visual equivalent of the "music" generated by someone who has never played an instrument picking up an electric guitar and thrashing around like a madman. Yes, it's fun and that's good. But don't expect your neighbours to like it! So if you are a "tone deaf" fledgling colourist making a lot of noise, it might be possible to improve with careful study.

You're not wrong about Oly. And I shoot Fuji as well, so all these things are part of the mixed bag. The thing is, when we're talking price, when we're looking at cameras within similar classes, the difference is typically a few hundred bucks. At a certain point, determining my camera purchase can turn into a "penny wise and pound foolish," decision. A few hundred, or even a grand, is a small price to pay to own and use a camera that I'm comfortable with and does the things I need it to do. You know how it is. You balance liabilities of the gear with the needs of your work and one's own biases. For instance, I just did 6 30-min documentaries in 6 months. I did it with the GX85 and EM5II. I'm not lying when I say that I'm glad I did the job on these consumer cameras rather than something like an Arri. One would look INCREDIBLY better than the other, and I would love to use that camera for many many many things, but I wouldn't have been able to do half the work load (nor the radically informal work that yielded a lot of good results) without the flexibility of these goofy, small, hybrid, IBIS, 8-bit, cams. I know it's hard to fathom among a forum like this, but having the best IQ is not always a priority. My favorite industry idioms comes from the National Geographic guys. It's simply, "f8 and be there." And I think you can understand the sentiment of that saying. That's why I can't get caught up to much in the IQ debate. My factors for my particular work rely on a lot more than just IQ. You'll have other needs. Someone else will have other requirements as well. For instance, I'm doing a cinematic doc/narrative in 2017, and I plan on using a Sony F5 and 100% static shots, so it's always always an "it depends" sort of answer with tools one decides to use for a project.

Tried this on my Canon 60D w/ Sigma 18-35, and I didn't check for focus. Sorry please forgive my rookie mistake. Shot internally and it held up quite better than I imagined. Remember using CineStyle when it first came out and never got the look I wanted consistently.
