  1. Good idea! gonna do too. I do believe if manufacturer will receive a few emails on regular basis they might start thinking about possibility. that was my first question to the moondog labs when i got their iPhone 1.33X adapter from kickstarter, if there s35 version anywhere on the roadmap, didn't get the answer

  2. Not following on a few things here. I love my A7SII too, but I think you've got a few things mixed up here unless I'm mistaken. And, caveat, this being the problem of the ridiculous caveat machine that is the A7RII. - The reduced rolling shutter mode is full frame 4K. Which has a little less detail, and a lot less rolling shutter. - The shaper, more detailed mode is Super 35mm. But you get added rolling shutter. But this isn't a problem for lenses, you just get a little crop. No need to change mount and I wouldn't bother with a focal reducer for such a minimal crop. - ISO performance was supposed to be very strong on the A7RII, equal until around 25k. I rarely ever shoot higher on the A7SII. I doubt many do. - A7SII real benefits are SLOG3 support, in-camera LUT for SLOG, that slightly higher ISO performance. Again, I'd still rather have better AF. Annnyway, these topics are boring. Get what works for your needs and your budget. I only photograph for a hobby so I couldn't rationalise buying the A7RII over the A7SII. If you have a project coming up, buy something in your budget. If you just want to buy and play around, wait and see. There is no right camera, as thousands have said. In 2 years you'll be wanting the latest and greatest all over again.

Pretty cool. Nice imagery and composition and subject... I want to see more. What camera was this shot with?

  8. He has posted some really nice footage. I'm impressed he's able to get such nice bokeh from 1.5x. And the bokeh in the recent 1.9x footage is ridiculously beautiful imo. Who knows if the lenses will ever happen, especially at a price people could afford. I'm skeptical but also extremely impressed with what he's accomplished and hope he can make it happen. Exciting. I really hope he can find a manufacturer to partner with and make it happen. Here's the 1.9x footage I was talking about.

  9. Sadly I don't know much more than you do, but I think he's working on a prime set initially. I would love to see an adapter actually but primes make sense too. Find him on vimeo, he posted a test a month ago.

  10. Thanks for mentioning Forrest Schultz. I wasn't familiar with him but just read a thread he started a couple years ago on the Blackmagic board. Very interesting. Do you know if he is designing primes or an adapter? He mentioned both. Also, any recent word on cost?

  11. I shot some high contrast scenes to test out what's the maximum dynamic range you can achieve without F-Log.

  12. It just occurred to me, with the ability to shoot 60 fps in 4K, would be too crazy to think about HDR video in 4k 30p? something like RED's HDRx.

  13. Better to wait for the a7s4, which will fix some of the problems with the a7s3. There are ALWAYS problems.

  14. Isn't the BMCC referred to as a Mini Alexa? They are so cheap on the used market right now, it may be worth looking into one of those instead of trying to get the GH4 to look like an Alexa.

  15. To give you an idea this video (again just a test nothing really good) I took it after 7h of total fly time: Attempting the same maneuvers with a toy drone as you have I would have crashed 50 times:-). If you come from the toy drones that are great to learn the basics you will find the stability of the phantom another world. Prior to the phantom I did fly maybe a total of 2h with the hubsan toy drone (5 min max flight with a battery:-( ) Btw the two videos are not my style of work, I do mostly sports/action so I'm just learning to be able to use it for MTB, Ski, Trial, Horseback riding, Icehockey, etc... to intercut with normal gimbal and tripod work. For me the key point is always if I will use it or not. I only add stuff to my arsenal that I really use.... so I tend to have a few but great stuff that tons of gears that I rarely use.

  16. Look's great Matthew19- nice job editing and touching music choice. With a little post sharpening it can be sharp enough for tight and medium shots, which looks like most of your shots. For wides it's still not going to looking like 4K downsampled to 1080p. For YouTube which is watched heavily on mobile devices these days, the in-camera 1080p is detailed enough. I still have a 5D3 (haven't shot H.264 video with it in a long time) and don't feel that the 1DX II is improved in sharpness/detail over the 5D3 post sharpened (here's a test I did after the 5D3 debate that it was too soft): For anything serious and short in length I use the 1DX II in 4K and downsample (lately only for 4K 60 paired with the C300 II as the primary camera). In any case, the 1080p from both cameras is sharp/detailed enough for people/closeups/mid shots and the colors look great out of camera. People have been using diffusion/softening filters (e.g. Black Pro-Mist, nylon stockings) to take the edge off over-sharp cameras for a long time

  17. s Great color and motion cadence, does not look like much rolling shutter at all.

  19. Here's a trailer for a short film I've been working on, called Homecoming. It's a neo-noir revenge film set in the mid-90's recession era Finland. We shot it on and off during the early spring and late fall of 2016. Originally we were supposed to wrap the whole movie during spring with one flashback scene shot in the summer, but we had continuous trouble with the weather and with the health of several crewmembers. I spent the first week of shoot on a high fever and was functioning on painkillers alone, and later when we were supposed to shoot the finale our lead actor became bedridden with measles and we had to postpone the finale to late fall. But now it's slowly coming together and it's starting look like an actual movie. The trailer is NSFW, it contains some extreme violent images. (Click CC for english subs) We shot the movie 95% on BMCC 2,5K EF, with some shots here and there taken with 5D2 ML RAW and Sony RX10 MK2. I'm using kodachrome LUT as the basis for the post-process, with heavy color separation and high midtone sharpness to give the BMCC footage an 80's film/RED footage kind of pop. A lot of visual cues are taken from Scandinavian/Finnish films from the 80's and 90's. The movie was mainly shot with Sigma 18-35 1.8, Super-Takumar 50 1.4, Samyang 85 1.4 and Tair 11A 135 2.8, with some special shots shot on Petzval 85 2.2. I often use diffusers and other physical filters but here they're used very sparingly, only on flashback scenes. Instead I went with self-made vignetters to shape bokeh on the daytime scenes to look like brushstrokes or scattered drops. The effect is not very obvious in the trailer as it focuses on nightscenes. If you have any questions about the process or the movie, shoot away!

  20. @DaveAltizer what year was your 1DC made? Asking because I know there was that pixel/heating issue that was affecting models of the 1DC, so just trying to get a sense of whether it was models made before a specific year/period.
