Hardly a 'political rant' to disagree with a ban on cameras in hand luggage He'll be calling me a nazi next?! If he's a trump supporter surely he is used to people, even some of his friends, disagreeing with his political views... Anyway it just goes to show how insufferable people are becoming You can't even joke about feminism in front of some people without them blocking you or unfriending people are far too sensitive perhaps the irony is that Amook is the one that really needs a 'safe space'!7 points -
I don't know... no offense to anyone's opinion, we're all entitled to them, but who gives a shit what Andrew's political opinions are? Or mine? Or yours? Or anyone's? Arent you the member who used to own an XC10 and D750... and if my memory serves me, you recently bought an F3? If this is you, you have posted some good work, focus on that and ignore the rest... or don't and let some random guy from the internet, who you obviously disagree with dictate your time spent on a video site... I mean, I disagree with almost every dipshit, crackpot political theory I read on this site... from both sides of the aisle... it doesn't mean I cannot learn from their video experiences... But whatever...7 points

After abandoning the NX community just after releasing two news cameras (NX1 & NX500) and pro lenses, I don't see anyone in their right mind investing any of their money again if Samsung ever had the idea of coming back to take more of our money. Camera market is not a market where you can just come and go. Reputation is (almost) everything. Samsung were given the benefit of the doubt but most professionnals did not switch from their Canons or Nikons to Samsung because of their lack of history in the PRO camera business. Mark my words - which are just my analysis and don't come from anywhere else - if Samsung ever comes back to the camera industry (which I HIGHLY DOUBT THEY EVER WILL) it would be a total economic failure. Because no one will trust them again - especially people who will own by then GHx and Sony A7R x cameras-.3 points

In order to be angry at someone, you've first got to have something in your own mind that you are projecting on the other person to be angry about. Think about why that is and you can start not being angry at others (as often ). If someone tells you you are wrong when you are right, who are you really getting angry at? If you are completely confident and at peace with yourself, you won't get angry, maybe even chuckle in those cases. Sometimes they'll be right- accept that too, then you'll be right again!2 points

There is a psychological war going on between the powers that be and this is the fallout. If each of us people can refrain from being unkind, no matter what anyone says to us, while still kindly stating our views, and having empathy for those who don't realize they are victims of programming, we can start making progress to having better relationships with each other. We are not separate beings on this planet, we are not separate from our environment, we are all one continuous living being. Separation is an illusion: this is nature and quantum physics. What good is the hand yelling at the foot? Creating another process in your mind, another level of awareness, that watches all your thoughts and actions as a separate being, is how to get started. Another way is to imagine there is always a camera pointed at you, and watching the camera is your ideal self, your significant other, your best friend, God, a jury, whatever construct works for you. Then start meditating every day for at least 5 minutes.2 points

A 50mm f2 lens on a .72x focal reducer becomes aprox a 36mm 1.4 lens. Doesn't matter what sensor size the format is. If you put the 50mm lens on a non focal reducer adapter on M4/3 you get a 50mm f2 lens with the FF angle of view of 100mm with f4 DOF (while still being a 50mm f2). With the focal reducer it has a 72mm FF angle of view with 2.8 FF DOF (while still being a 36mm 1.4 lens). It makes NO difference to the sensor at all. A native 35 1.4 lens is not really any different to a 50mm lens on a focal reducer. I believe some fast wide angle zoom lenses are constructed using a focal reducer internally. The thing is that mostly focal reducers seem to be used with fast lenses for more exotic results or to make slow kit type lenses more useful especially on M4/3.2 points

Keep an eye on UK Digital, Mundus and Wöltje listed at: https://geizhals.eu/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gh5-schwarz-gehaeuse-a1558055.html?hloc=at&hloc=de&hloc=pl&hloc=uk&hloc=eu . From the G80 release I believe they were the first ones to sport a few units. I probably have the best chance again picking up one from the local A-S Elektro, they don't ship, it's pick-up only. More places in town like it with some fair odds, like with the E-M1 Mark II was the case (actually didn't end up buying one... for now). Actually think the E-M1 Mark II was for sale two days earlier in The Netherlands, so maybe also keep an eye on here: https://tweakers.net/product/537687/panasonic-lumix-g-dmc-gh5/ . For people in Switzerland or close-by, keep an eye on: https://en.toppreise.ch/index.php?search=gh5&sRes=OK , also, I believe somewhere someone dropped a hint that Panasonic has some % off until the end of the month or something? If the situation applies to you, maybe worth checking into (-- ah, over here , 2906 CHF (~ 2699 EUR) incl. Leica lens, battery grip & audio unit, not too bad).2 points

TSA bans cameras in cabin baggage, on flights to the US from 13 countries
Richard Bugg and one other reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
That's the thing though. Guys like Bannon ARE engineering an invasion. The current administration wants a Christian vs Muslim war and they see it as divine destiny to win it. It's going to be your armed forces, men and women, who die in this, in far greater numbers than those who have been killed by "terrorist" wannabes, which are actually incidents of crime and murder, rather than acts of war and terrorism as the media and government portray it as. For example what happened in Berlin recently, was extremely tragic but the act of ONE SINGLE petty criminal murderer. Just because they have certain beliefs doesn't make them an army. No it doesn't make you white supremacists. It does make you a fearful paranoid bunch, unable to take responsibility for why people hate you. When these terrorist nutcases speak about defeating Christians, they're not talking about Canada and Sweden. Trump is making you a target. I can understand the US culture of gun ownership, it comes from protecting isolated farms and houses from a hostile lawless wild-west society. Those days are over if only you'd let go Tom! Fox News constantly spins this propaganda about Europe. There are not a million refugees on my street in Berlin or piling into bars in Manchester. It just didn't happen that way. 99% of the people who came over just politely blend in and just want to get on with their lives and bring up their children, then return to their homes once the fighting stops and the country of origin is ready to rebuild. Some will settle but that again is nothing new to Europe or the UK. The UK in particular has been a melting pot of nationalities for centuries. It gave us our best food, our best music, our best doctors and scientists. If only we could replace our lazy fat British chavs with refugees who actually have a work ethic, the economy would be even better. Merkel made a mistake by not controlling or keeping track of who came in but that's the price you pay for true freedom. Under Trump you're not actually free, you're not actually safe, sadly it's just an illusion. Trump and Bannon talk-up their Christian values all the time. Merkel did it as a good Christian deed and she did save millions of lives... I don't see Fox News praising her Christian values, or the fact she's an ex-quantum physicist whereas Trump has issues spelling the word 'tap' correctly. Yes, a few of the refugees who came in abused the situation and took advantage. A few more happened to do that and at the same time harbour mental illness. A few crimes occurred, as they do every day with people born here and raised here. Every single crime has been blown up in the media and put under the spotlight, because it's a foreign perpetrator. The media is heavily biased and has an agenda to get more clicks and sell more newspapers. That's how propaganda works. Look it up. It's fine to reject the globalist agenda You'll be left behind though Because it's a global world now, with the internet, out sourcing, mass production, consumerism and hugely beneficial trade links... You may not like it but you can't buck the trend of world history just by stomping your feet like a child and voting for Trump. It's not going to be rolled back long term over the next 200 years and next will come A.I., robots, and a whole other world order you can't do anything about... Leave a good legacy for yourself and your family and work hard. Alternatively, be remembered as that sad guy who got caught up in the short-lived wave of hysteria and supported a joke-president who is an even smaller footnote in the history books. Oh the irony. You have a 20th century European-style tyrant as your president and I assume you voted for him. So if anyone hasn't learnt from that it's you. LOL. This is Info-wars level batshit crazy. The global economy has pulled millions of people our of poverty and put food on their tables. Sony have camera factories in Thailand. Those factory jobs are NOT coming back to the rustbelt in the US. Manchester in the UK did not get the factory jobs back either. We adapted and went with a services based economy which is why there's now the BBC's second HQ there and a ton of film production studios. Who wants the miserable factory jobs back any way? We do have one thing in common - we both dislike political correctness. I'd like you even more if you were sane.2 points -
Best IS lenses for C100?
webrunner5 and one other reacted to Tim Sewell for a topic
As far as I'm aware it's only the Canon STMs that support face recognition. I have the 17-55 2.8 (which I'm assuming is the one you mean above) and the AF works great (if a little noisy) and the IS is a treat - but no face AF. I also have both the 18-135 and 55-250 STMs and they work perfectly and near-silently. They're reasonable lenses optically, with all the usual provisos, if a little bland; but if you're looking for something to throw on the camera and forget about while it does the work for you they're hard to gainsay. Obviously not the fastest glass out there, but the C100's (well the mk ii anyway, I haven't used the mk i) low-light performance means that upping your ISO a couple of clicks is a relatively pain-free experience in all but the lowest-light situations.2 points -
Anyone with access to both the 1DX-II (or 5D4 etc.) and the 1DC could perform a test to see how much better CLog is vs. the log-like picture styles for both dynamic range and skintones (the harder part). @Luke Mason noted the 1DC with CLog has more DR but not much more info here:1 point

Btw @Phil A If you shoot ProNegStandard with -2 highlights and shadows you get quite a lot of dynamic range. Test it out yourself by shooting a RAW still and shooting a video with the same settings. When you reduce the contrast in post it looks close to FLOG footage. Make sure you expose to just before highlight clipping and you'll see the shadow recovery is not far off from a RAW still. @jonpais Nvm. Forgot face detect only works in 1080p1 point

I have the E-M1, so the 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO came with it. It's a very well-built lens and I love the MF de-clutch and optical solid character. From what I had gathered back then, there wasn't that much reason to be getting the 12-35mm f/2.8 apart from the stabilization, so I never gave it a whirl, really. The new Leica? I don't really like the fall-off to f/4 and I believe it's not really up to the quality and character of the recent Leica gems (mainly primes). With the G80 I went with the kit, because importing it from the UK, I basically got it with a free 12-60mm Lumix lens (which is weathersealed btw), 64GB card and battery grip for body only mainland EU prices. The Lumix 12-60mm provides a very useful range and does okay in daylight for like photography. Even for video it's not terrible, as you do gain that Dual IS compatibility, but you might not use if for more than homevideos. The Leica. Well, not sure, the range is nice, but if it doesn't have those Leica qualities and falls off to f/4, then I hardly have better use for it than the cheaper Lumix. Since I don't own the 12-35mm f/2.8... it seems that for the GH5, it would make sense to get the newer version, of course, I could just still be using the Olympus, as now we have sensor stabilization. But having had the oppertunity to try out Dual IS, I can't deny that it's really really good compared to sensor stabilization alone. Of course, if you have the older one, you still get Dual IS, just not Dual IS 2, which shouldn't make the world of difference.1 point

Sony A6000 : i miss my Canon 600D....
BrorSvensson reacted to Inazuma for a topic
Quick answer: Yes, only Canon does Canon colours. If you want colours somewhere as good, whilst keeping somewhere as good AF, then get the Fuji XT20. One thing to consider is that the a6000 had a firmware update which enabled XAVCS encoding at 50mbps. This mode has less aliasing and moire than the pre-firmware a6000. Personally when I had the a6300 I loved the colours compared to the Panasonics I was using before (skintones in particular were much better). But then again I've also been known to say the C100 "isnt that good". So what do I know?1 point -

Whatever the angle, NX still offers great value for the money. Some of my favorite lenses are: 10mm fisheye (most APS-C systems do not even offer one, amazing tiny and very near focusing lens) - 30mm pancake (incredible sharp, great for video, very very small, very slow focusing though) - 45mm (advertised as) pancake (my favorite NX lens, rendered all my 50-55-58mm legacy lenses useless, and that is the reason I was resisting this lens for a few years! very fast focusing also) and of course the unicorn 16-50S (2f in the first few mm that cover 3 common prime focal lengths, best AF for NX, great Dual Stabilizer with the NX1 - for non action scenes), 16mm on NX is 24.something mm, the usual 17mm in Canon EF-S is 27.something mm, quite a difference. Amazing value for such a cheap price (so I had to own them to fill holes): 16-50PZ/12-24/50-200 Probably near the top of their respected lists: 60mm macro, 85mm (a truly amazing lens), 50-150S There are also two small pancakes (16/20mm), and a few other kit zooms (20-50/18-55) What I am missing? Only an S ultra Wide Zoom, some people something longer than 200mm. If you bought for cheap (which I know you did!), the loss is minimal, and the enjoyment vast! Just melt it from the use, it will be very difficult to need something more for a while!1 point

Lots of useful info in this thread and I thank you all for taking the time. I've gone for the NX1, it just seems to offer everything I want and a lot more in terms of features and image quality, the only real negative is that it's a dead system. It doesn't offer the AF lenses I usually use for stills but it seems manual focus is the way to go over time anyway. I have some rokkors laying around to try in the meantime and will also look at FD. Thanks again1 point

Trading 1DC for a7R II?
Kisaha reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
A7R II autofocus isn't that great for video, not that reliable. And you'd have to replace all your EF lenses with E-mount to benefit from the video lock-on AF at all. Of course the 1D X Mark II is the best 4K camera for Dual Pixel AF but it's pricy. Do you only do YouTube and nothing else? What I'd do in your situation is keep the 1D C and just get a cheap 2nd camera with good AF for the YouTube like the Samsung NX1 or if you don't care about 4K, the EOS M5, which does at least have Dual Pixel AF!1 point -

He's been watching Fox News. Had he bothered to travel, he'd have noticed Europe has a much lower crime rate than the US and is generally safer. Hardly any terrorist incidents. Do you lock the door to your house when you go to bed at night? If so - why? I do because I feel safer. Am I realistically in danger if I don't lock it and I am fast asleep and defenseless? Maybe, maybe not. Do I want to find out if I am being overly cautious? I don't, so I continue to lock my door at night when I go to sleep. Am I xenophobic? Maybe, maybe not, but I sleep better at night with my door locked regardless of if my perception of what is and isn't a threat is realistic (or politically correct.)1 point

TSA bans cameras in cabin baggage, on flights to the US from 13 countries
FilmMan reacted to tomsemiterrific for a topic
Really disappointing to hear how many useful idiots there are ready to tear down the USA for anything we do or advocate. And why? Just because we want to protect our citizens from killers---who have said they're coming. Just because we don't want our leaders to engineer an invasion of our land that will change its culture and character and polity for the worst we are monsters. Wanting to be safe doesn't mean we're bigots and white supremacists. It just means we don't want to open the flood gates to those who hate us--it means we don't want in America what we have seen happen all over Europe, where leftist useful idiots holding the reins of power have put the lives and safety of their own citizens in peril and their culture at dire risk. I'm sick of being called a bigot and a racist because I reject the Globalist agenda. That's the low garbage of the cad who has no argument and is incapable of reasoning and weighing the evidence---and has learned NOTHING from the European tyrants of the 20th century. Globalist centralized command and control power is a river of blood, of Kristallnachts on steroids, and massive starvation "for the greater good" than Mao ever dreamed of. The poison of collectivism has untold millions bamboozled under the rhetorical flourishes of various "isms"---all with the intent of creating a prison planet for the few of the cognoscenti to rule and bind us all. I do video to escape this crap. Could we just stick to that here?1 point -

Plastic explosives could be hidden inside a working LiPo battery (Lithium by itself can explode and burn just by contacting water). Checked bags get heavier screening for bomb chemistry via high-energy devices: http://www.sds.l-3com.com/products/explosivedetect.htm. Additionally, checked bags are stored inside more resilient containers in the cargo hold vs. the relatively thin airframe where passengers sit. A bomb might also be used to gain access to a locked cockpit. These directives come from intelligence agencies and were also implemented on various levels from the prior administration, only now becoming politicized and amplified by people unable or unwilling to seek the truth, unaware that they are pawns in a much bigger plan. The programming is brilliant as the victims aren't even aware of what's been done to them, where their first unconscious reactions are typically expletives, irrational behavior, silliness, ad hominem, and complete inability for calm, rational, and polite discussion when their programming is challenged. How effective and deep does this unconscious programming go? Does Shaq really believe the Earth is flat, or is he just trying to get traffic for his podcast? http://gizmodo.com/some-photos-of-earth-for-shaq-who-thinks-the-earth-is-1793422926 I've been studying the comment sections on MSM sites (all sides), comments on this forum too, and most people don't realize how close we are to nuclear annihilation. Everyone is acting like children insulting the previous and current leadership and each other. No one is trying to get along or solve the bigger issues. This is what the people behind the curtain want- everyone fighting each other! If the rumors of alien overlords here to protect us are false*, we're in big trouble if we don't start working together to live in harmony with each other and the planet. It looks like a highly advanced civilization on Earth was destroyed about 12,000 years ago. Are we going to repeat it? Will the iRock and iStick become the cool new gadgets? * UFOs look more like advanced terrestrial vehicles from everything I've seen. 99.999% look like hoaxes (nice job decorating your "UFO" like a Christmas tree). We have talked about your short numerous times and I think I had some of the same theories as Juxx. I know you're not trying to change it or make it different but here's an idea anyway... if you filmed one wide shot for the end of the piece that showed you sitting next to a mirror, the whole short would come together. I know you don't like "twist" endings but in all honesty... you wrote it in a way that just begs for that twist, so why fight your own material? A good friend of mine always makes a really interesting point... he is a writer/director/editor and when he shoots his script, he calls the writer a moron... when he edits his footage he believes the director had his head up his ass.1 point

Maybe because the masses who buy this camera will film everything - and I mean everything - at 4K60p for the first six months until the novelty wears off and the views die down. They will not care for bit rates or efficient codecs. Those who buy the GH5 as a production workhorse are in the tiniest of minorities and will likely only use its showcase feature very sparingly. Just as the YouTube viewing market was swamped with rats scurrying about at 4am in deserted cities when the a7s first came out, it will shortly be swamped with slow motion skateboard gimbal videos from the end of this month onwards. None of them will care for h.265, let alone Anna Morphic or whatever her name is. Panasonic need to make money and they do that via the masses and not the serious filmmakers, just as every company does that sells prosumer gear.1 point

I used a couple LUTS by luts.iwltbap.com and FilmConvert in post. Filmed in 4K converted to ProRes for editing in Premiere. Yes, I know Premiere supports H.265, but I've had nothing but problems with H.265 files since the last update. Exported to 1080. What's it about?
