  1. ..Kinshasa I agree with you completely. I have both, Samsung NX1 and Sony A7s II, and no doubts.. I love, really love the NX1. It is able to make me want to shot video every day. In few words: under the 1600 iso is now, in 2017, still unbeatable!

  2. The DJI ones are optically very good as they have a good anti reflection coating and don't interfere with the gumball operation BUT they are fiddly to fit and very easy to break while doing so and for sunny conditions you ideally need a 32x as a minimum and they only go up to 16x. I'll report back on the PGYTECH once they arrive.

  3. @Henry Silvestriz Depends, if you can find a great combo with the 16-50S, then I say it will be great for the next few years, and cheaper than the new future cameras (as you see the flagship models are reaching 2000$ territory body only). If you like to have the best and the latest, then wait for the next Fuji or Sony (the next ones, not the current ones), or buy the GH5. Definitely NX1 is a peek to the future, unbelievable ergonomics, battery life, H265 codec, some excellent and cheap lenses (fish eye, 30mm + 45mm). If you add more info about your intended use, we may be more helpful @Santiago de la Rosa If you have NX500 and you know what it is, then you would find NX1 just amazing. Completely different cameras though, the one is a pro hybrid, the other ain't!

  4. Hey guys, I´m a great fan of classic Andrew Reid stuff like this one telling about Richard Gales Nex5 mod. Are there any other cool mods going on by Richard or others? I just think this looks so pretty:) Here is this super cool article by Andrew: http://www.eoshd.com/2012/07/mystery-camera-revealed-sony-nex-5n-in-cine-housing-with-cooling-mod/

  5. This is my debut work, that took me 2.5 years to finish. I've learned so much from this community, that I just had to post it here. This is a music video for the band where I sing. Shot on BMMCC with contax glass, rangefinder and isco s8 2x. Big shout out to @Tito Ferradans @richg101 @ken and @Hans Punk. You guys are all listed down in credits for providing so much help with getting into the whole anamorphic thing. I was making those credits in hurry and totally forgot to include @Bioskop.Inc so a special thanks and an apology goes to you!

  7. Im using Sigma 18-35mm with nikon adapter, lot of detail and sharpeness and manual focus. The problem is that its huge in the nx500. Now Im waiting a 16-50mm S to test auto focus.

  10. I've not seen 'aliasing' but there are plenty of artefacts from the compression. I keep contrast and saturation at 0 as the bitrate is too low to pull back contrast in the NLE without introducing banding in skies. I also add a bit of softening and if you shoot at max res and output at 1080p it looks OK. I'm very happy with the quality considering it's such a tiny camera.

Good music videos are very rare, imo. I can't imagine why any contemporary white pop band or singer consider themselves superior to this funny brazil guy. We can't relate to that, right, but what does that mean? I'm working full time as a nurse for the elderly (people with dementia mostly), and the music they like to listen to makes your gums move back and your teeth fall out. Again, what does that mean? Are they wrong and I am right? In a way rappers are more authentic than any white pop, for that matter. Why? They openly pose, and in their rap battles they try to find false notes in the other's performances. Very funny. 'I have a dream!' - 'What dream?' - 'That I have a dream!'

Low quality standards for sure. Compare this to music videos you deem perfect. Wouldn't you agree that the differences are gradual? Better music? Definitely. In the end, it's mostly a matter of more refined taste - whatever that is supposed to be - and successful in not being too unashamedly embarrassing. Obviously placing a plastic Coke bottle on the table is a NoGo (label ripped off? What happened to it?). Are better music videos actually better? Everybody is just posing, and once you see through this, you can't see too many differences.

  17. Yesterday I was shopping in China with my wife and walked into a giant camera store - much to my surprise there was a A9 demo event. Despite not knowing anything being said from the Sony rep, everyone in the audience, or even being able to decipher the menus - it was awesome. The body improvements make it really feel good, more chunk in the grip, better control layout - lord the new record button is just great compared to the ball point pen tip they've used on every other e-mount body - and jeezus its fast. 20fps is not my thing, but the A9 is a beast. AF and tracking are next level for mirrorless - much better than anything I've seen from the EM1.2, XT2 and the A6500 or A7rII. Everyone in attendance shot stills, so when the rep reviewed images on a big 4k tv, I didn't see any video. If I had a spare card I would have shot some stills and tried to shoot video - they were letting people take away images, but the menus were in Chinese so I don't know if I would have been able to tinker with framerates and bitrates. Very cool though as this was the first time I've seen a camera pre-release like this. Funny side note - a guy was pairing the A9 with his phone to download images and he knocked over a cup of water sitting on the counter next to the camera and it splashed the A9 body and a a6500/18-110 cine lens combo sitting on the counter next to the A9. A shop staffer gave him major stink eye as he wiped water off the everything, but the weather sealing did its job. That cine lens is sweet too.

  18. I used your settings today, been getting a little bit bored by my regular ones and wanted to try something different for the bridal shoot I shot today, awesome look right out of camera! My previous settings were very hard to match between my NX1 and NX500, so hopefully it'll be nice in post that I shot them both with consistent settings across the board today. Thanks for sharing!

  19. I've only used the C300 II VF a few times outdoors. I wear glasses most of the time, though it's possible I was wearing contacts when looking through the VF, and perhaps oil from eyelashes created this pattern: Thought perhaps the coating was cracking/spiderizing on it's own. However after cleaning with ROR and microfiber: It came off. Microfiber is tricky in this small space, it's not perfectly clean. Going to get some optical swabs (vs. q-tips) to carefully (with very little downforce) get the edges and remaining spots. It's not really needed, it's clear enough to use (and was before cleaning, the pattern only showed up at that angle with light hitting it as shown). Since I rarely use the VF: I agree that it's insane and super not cool to have to pay over $700 to replace the entire VF assembly vs. just being able to replace the outermost element for around $100 (at most). I'd pay Zacuto $1950 (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1242176-REG/zacuto_z_gre_gratical_eye_micro_oled.html) before I'd pay Canon $710 to replace this part (would probably get this package: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1293748-REG/zacuto_z_c3002ergreb_c300_mark_ii_gratical.html). Photos with 1DX II (will post some production info for video soon).

  20. @mercer I am with you! Give me raw for 200euros! why not?! I am not against the workflow (even though it doesn't fit my profile at all), high end features are always welcomed, in whatever price range, my point is that in this entry level category, not a lot of people care about raw, most just need dependable, reliable machines to work well day in - day out, and even cheap media and less backup space play their role in this category (NX's H265 rule! as I keep 2 backup and 1 working project). That's is why the most used camera in my country is still C100 (even the older versions), and FS5 sell as well, mostly because of the e-ND function. Ursa mini Pro with the EVF, SSDs and battery options are almost 10.000 FS5 needed a 600$ update for that (I am not sure what's the policy now) and you needed a top of the range external video recorder, while the 4300euros Canon C100markII does 35Mbps 1080p. I am not trying to bring you down, I just like to be realistic with my expectations and the market we are in. If you don't understand why someone would choose a Canon C100mark II, a FS5, or the new Panasonic instead of the GH5 (even in this market) then these cameras are not for you, GH5 or an older Black Magic are just fine for your workflow I guess. To be honest, I would prefer a price closer to 5000euros, and let Canon/Sony to worry about their pricing, with or without raw.

  21. I'm speaking under correction here, but I don't believe the Varicam LT shoots RAW without an external recorder....if I'm correct about this, and can't see how there would be any business incentive for them to put it in their next down the line Cine cam.

  24. Quick update here: I had projects to shoot so I returned the Kipon adapter and managed to get my hands on a Metabones SB Ultra which works flawlessly. I did send an email to Kipon and asked about the compatibility issue to which they responded that they'll fix it in FW eventually. I can't confirm nor deny whether it works with the 1.1 FW in the GH5 or not as I don't have the adapter anymore. So for anyone looking for answers it's inconclusive! I'd recommend keeping an eye on Kipon's update logs and try the adapter in-store if possible to see if IBIS and everything else works as intended with the adapter before purchasing it. Metabones is pricey but it works, which is more important if one is doing client work on a regular basis.

  27. I was just at the Sony press release and spoke to a Sony Rep. there was literally nothing interesting at the press release. I told the rep I was hoping for a Sony a9s and he asked me why? I told him it's because I want Slog and better video features. He then asked me "why why don't you just get an a7S II?" I said I want phase detect autofocus and the better battery. He then said "well you're going to have to wait a long time." conclusion: nothing new here. Looks like we will wait at least another 6 months before we see anything. At least I got a free cookie.

  28. I think the problem is in LOG mode the Sony cameras apply a wide gamut to colour which leaves it at the mercy of compression and bad colour paths in post. The white balance...something is going on there too... If they had just adjusted the gamma curve like Canon LOG and left colour alone we wouldn't have all these threads and messed up grades in the first place so the blame has to lie at Sony's door really

    4K for Nikon D5

If it's just timelapse you're after at 4096 x 2160, the D5 is probably overkill. The D750 would serve you just as well and the 6K (24 megapixel) images will go nicely to 4K in post. You would however need to frame in 16:9 and then crop to the very slightly narrower 1.85:1 aspect ratio. Just a very tiny slice off the top and bottom of the image required. The D5's 4K looks to be limited to just 3 minutes and 3840 x 2160 so pretty useless for timelapse. I'm not sure it has a built in intervalometer like the prosumer Nikons? The Canon 1D C has very similar colorimetry to the Nikons and shoots 4096 x 2160 at 24p or 25p. Do you need 30p at all? If not, then get the 1D C and simply fit your Nikon glass to it via an adapter. If all this seems like too much of a workaround then the D5 would of course be very good in low light and fit the bill for timelapse but as it isn't out yet nor in my hands, I can't really be too sure about its suitability. PS - the best resolution stills camera in the Nikon line is actually the D810 at 36MP or close to 8K... D5 is 20MP to keep the high ISOs sweet.
