  1. Man, you're starting to get some color mojo.., I am digging the muted colors. The first few seconds I thought were ProRes but when you started panning, I wasn't so sure. Either way, the color is looking pretty damn good.

  2. Yeah, f'da internet these days. Not happy at how it's been callously appropriated by wanton algorithmic enterprise. I understand it and why it's happening, but certainly don't appreciate the results, even though I'm guilty as everyone else of being manipulated by it...and manipulating it to my own advantage, if I'm being honest. The world is currently in a mode where rewarding BS is status quo. (maybe that's our default mode anyway) And until things change somehow, the whole thing is devolving. Minimizing individualism is, in my mind, minimizing humanity in general. Perhaps that's our path, but I'm old, so it's my right to think everything's going to hell. At the end of the day, aggregation is theft and the only way to attempt to curb it is probably to regulate. That absolutely wouldn't be possible nor effective anyway.

    GH5 Cages

I know...even corrected it in an email to them...but ahh!!...the Italian design is so good...the cage fits so closely, that the camera strap buckles had to come off and it has to be assembled around the camera...truly a 2nd skin, and incredibly robust craftmenship...good eye Jon!!?????

  4. What do I think 6 months on? LOVE IT. As a former user of an A7sii, I have come to learn that the GH5 is so much better in almost every way. However, I do find the native lenses don't give me the look I want but am getting amazing results from speedboosting some EF mount Sigma's and some old vintage Nikons. Shooting almost exclusively V-Log too and finding the low light is good up to 3200, which is perfect for most uses. Colours are so much better than GH4, V-log easier to grade and doesn't break or have wired colour/noise issues. Slow mo is great, IBIS is great. Thumbs up all around.

    GH1/GH2 Hack

How about the 'The SUPER 8 BIT Challenge' -back to basics filmmaking with extra kudos for older cameras such as GH1 and GH2 and the less gear that is used, the focus is on working around limitations and maximising creativity -3 to 5 minute short by end of year with as many submissions as you like -any genre allowed -No 4K -All footage to be captured in 1080p and glorious 8bit color I've had good results using a shorter camera strap around my neck and then pushing against this so the strap is taut, can get some subtle camera movement with this that looks fairly fluid and stable. The other thing I use for low-profile filming is a gorilla-pod with the legs pressed against my chest.

  7. This weekend I had the chance to get out a little with the GH5. So I geared up and headed out to take some footage with the new SLR Magic 40 Compact and the Panasonic 35-100 f2.8 ii. All the shots in this video are using the aforementioned combination. I was not expecting much as the anamorphic lens are not supposed to like low-light. But in the end I feel the combination might have some use at night. I am becoming quite impressed with the GH5. It is a very inspiring and liberating camera to shoot with. In any case, check out the video below, and feel free to add your two cent worth.

  8. I wrote SD card, panning speed, etc. are sorted out as faulty parameters due to fast card, slow panning speed, with and without IBIS still worse than Lumix G6, etc. That makes encoder and other parameters left for consideration. I´ve read the linked thread. My SD card is a Samsung EVO UHS-I Class 10, model MB-SP32D. With HD and 4K pans having the same jitter problem, it´s not a writing speed related issue. Its write speed is at least 19 Megabytes/ 150 Mbits per second, so plenty for HD and enough for 100mbit which UHD barely reaches. Jonpais has provided his first experience doing a well executed test. Thanks again, Jon! More GX and G85 users might chim in as well. cheers

Yeah the motorized module looks nice. For panning, look for a mount for security cameras I bought one at WalMart years ago and it work pretty well. I think it even came with a remote control.

    Mini Slider

I guess it depends on what type of slider moves you need. I still have my Konova 32" slider which is also motorized and is hacked to do continuous back and forth motion but I've been using the Edelkrone slider + motion module for about 6 months now and have never felt like I was limited by its length, at all. I haven't even thought about using the Konova since getting the Edelkrone motion kit. The one thing this unit needs to make it completely indispensable is a pan and tilt module (maybe something built into the flex tilt head). I will agree that it's expensive but it helped that I was able to buy the slider component used on kijiji for half the original price.

  14. and ...ever reflected on the fact that EVERY news media nowadays produces it's news about 90% on releases from news agencies? There are 3-10 news agencies spreading the same news...and hundreds/thousands of "news media" buying this "content" from leading agencies, changing a little bit the text (no duplicate content from Googles POV), doing some internal linking (link juice for news categories and older articles, etc.) and the firing out the articles... But in fact, more than 90% of today's news base on news agencies releases spreaded to their clients...Hundreds of media publish the same news, sometimes with different title and a little bit of text differentiation...So news media - even of the most famous/appreciated ones - is nothing but about 90% copy & paste and aggregation. When copying the content of smaller sites, German media mostly DON'T CREDIT the original source... The such called "journalists" are more SEO pundits than journalists....The good one is, most media working like this, drives down...Consumers should NOT REWARD copy&paste journalism, content theft, etc...

  16. This could be fun- create a bunch of different shots which can be easily edited together to tell a short story (really short, less than a minute). People can download the clips, add their own dialog- narration and ADR, then assemble them into something entertaining. Basic minimal story format: Show the hero's goal/desire/problem Show the hero overcoming obstacles to reach goal (drama) Celebration and close A way to get people creating content vs. obsessing with gear

    GH1/GH2 Hack

No I'm pretty sure that lens, due to the rear element's design (maybe the macro function) doesn't work with any speedbooster. Btw, I read that you can use a "slim md to ef adapter" with an ef speedbooster and get infinity focus. I still think that lens won't work but other MD lenses might. The Minolta MD 24-35mm and 24-50mm are a set of primes in a zoom. I like the 24-35mm better because it is tiny and faster. I think it was a really old article on Lens Bubbles blog. I tend to doubt it but the guy did have photographic proof.

  20. Too much fanboyism, envy and hate out there...Too many self proclaimed (but clueless) camera business analysts...And THIS is simply useless for interested people. Real interested enthusiasts and working shooters are gone - now replaced by "gear lurkers only". They spend weeks upon reading reviews, then buy, use, read even more reviews, then upgrade, replace, resell gear and finally repeat this process ad infinitum...without even producing only one piece of really useful content. Nothing wrong when doing this - just useless for people mainly interested in shooting and NOT in endless talk... In fact, the indecision of gear talkers is the factual bread-and-butter for most review sites. During the old days, I got much inspiration from many sites. Now...I am mainly disgusted by hate, envy, misconception, factual misinformation or even misleading and false statements...Gear talking became more and more boring and useless... BUT...Though there still are many useful sites out there with people who really help and inspire one... Yep...My POV: Shoot first and talk then...

  21. I will know the answer to this question soon enough. But for now I think the Canon has the edge. I can take magical pictures all day long without even trying with my 1DXMk2... It's more work with the GH5, as I refuse to ruin the system again with the SB. The 42.5mm Nocticron has magic, but so does most of my Canon L glass.

  22. I like what you're doing here. Looks good. There's an alternative method to creating the same technique that I've employed in the past (used it on a low budget CBS promo I made a decade ago) Basically I wanted to create the look of sequential time-lapse but shooting with a video camera. (all I had at the time) So, I shot scenes wherein I had the subject(s) stand still in the middle of San Fransisco and I would then slowly walk toward them, around them, behind them, etc. People would swirl around 'em and sometimes I'd shoot through traffic, etc. At the end of a single shot I would have about 30 seconds of video. I took that 30 seconds, sped it up in post so it lasted 3 seconds...and *this is the important part* applied a 6 frame strobe effect to the clip. Viola': it looked like image sequence time-lapse. Which, when you think about it, is exactly what it is anyway. *note: to really heighten the look, I shot with a very slow shutter. 1/3, I think. Anyway, that adds a lot of cool motion blur, enhancing the "looks like a photo" effect. So, with any footage you can adjust the speed, (ramping up footage makes it look more like time lapse) add a strobe effect filter to hold frames on screen for however long you prefer, and there you go. Play around with it. It's easy and it works. No need to torture your stills camera. Just shoot and then build it easily in post. BTW, the CBS promo spot was pretty lame to be honest, but figuring out a new process to emulate time lapse was fun.

  23. I'm no Canon fan anymore but the option of putting the touchscreen with DPAF and raw at 4k 50p 10bit is enticing. I have the feeling Pana expected what we all expected, that Canon would produce a 25p 4k camera and call it a day and they were caught with the pants down and off guard. In fact, I'd rather mix the gh5 with the C200 than with the EVA.

  24. I didn't read your post because its was to long and probably just useless insults. But to the rest, here meanwhile is actually showing and proving exactly my point in the first post. He haven't even read the article from Reuters that writes about a successful outcome for an investor in a profitable company. Instead he goes by NOFS click bait fake news headline that was first started by a hatemonger/blogger that nows squat about pretty much anything. So what we have is a chain where everyone only reads and takes in the fake sidetrack story while at the same time believing that what they say originated from the original source. And we all know this is a global problem in actual news as well. People want to believe the fake version of things rather than reality. We see it in politics, war, you name it. And it is a problem.

  25. If it matches the video of the A99, also has decent AF, and lets folk use their Nikon glass natively, that would be an decent option for those invested in Nikon glass. On the other hand if they brought out a video oriented D750 upgrade, 24 MP full frame sensor down sampled to 4K (A9 style) for half the money, then you can keep the 40+ MP camera.

  27. The next month or so should reveal more information apparently. The problem I have is that the go to source for info about it should be the reduser site but I can't last more than a few more minutes on there because of the sycophancy. I went over there earlier to see what it was all about regarding RED selling the cameras through the Apple store and pretty much did this.

  31. google translate "he who can do more can do less" Unfortunately this is not the case here, as usual …Since the time we understood the lesson… (Panasonic, sony, canon are a Japanese company that shares the market with well-established strategy, there is no competition between them And the two new camera of canon and panasonic demonstrates it very well) From this imposed logic, for me the C200 is the competitor of the RED and not the PANA EVA When you buy a red it is for the RAW, It should be the same for the c200 Generally the must used compression in REd is the redcod 5.1 in 4k it gives 30 min of video in a card of 128G It's very very manageable for a fiction This is one of the great big advantage of red, the compressed RAW Redcode The c200 record in 4K RAW " light " 15 min of video on a 128 card, is double! Of an RED. The advantage of the c200 on the RED is the price ! (camera body and Recording card media) Autofocus and canon optics , low light performance ,built-in ND Filter, Weight Size, ergonomie. Unfortunately the c200 does not record in Raw 2K otherwise it could record 30 min of video on a card of 128G " Of course, It's cool to have the optional 4k :p " I worked on movies participate in festivals such cannes Berlinale venise, all the projection are always in 2K even in cinemas at the distribution . And many are waiting to go directly to the 8k, and will not invest in 4k DCP projectors And I can tell you that the most important in an image is the color dynamic range and (Organic noise, if there is) And the C200 canon She has this, "in theory"

  32. This comparison will be mute once Canon add the XF-AVC codec, which will likely be 10-bit. The idea of comparing the C200 to a hybrid DSLR is a bit silly. Where are the XLRs, Timecode, SDI outputs etc, on the GH5? I think this person put across the differences of working with a dedicated video camera vs a DSLR hybrid best.
