  1. When the NX1 came out Philip Bloom bought it but didn't use it very much as he said the dynamic range was limited. I thought it was a bit limited too, turns out we were both wrong... Here is the effect of Fast Colour Corrector in Premiere changing output levels to 16-235 for NX1 clips recorded in 0-255 RGB range mode. Original file - blown out clouds... And here is an additional 1-2 stops in the highlights from enabling Smart Range + in-camera - I'd put this camera right up there for image quality now... Right near the top of the pile. Both sample images shot with the superb NXL adapter by the way with Canon 50mm F1.2L full frame FOV and DOF. Thanks Luca

  3. That place used to be cool. The comments on the page and their facebook have been so toxic lately that there imo is absolutely no point in having any sort of discussion there. There is not one single article, about anything that's not met with nothing but hate. It could be an article about world peace and everyone gets mad and want war. No moderation. At least the articles where decent imo. And then they started to slip, click bait, bad fact checking and so on. The latest example was the success story that Leica has gone so far into the green that the investor that holds a minority share of 45% is ready to make a return and become rich. Some bogus bloggers made up a story about it and that's what NOFS is reporting. Not the original content from a credible news agency. They are actually speculating that a bank selling a share with no money passing through Leica would "save" a very profitable an growing company... sigh. And that's just one example. Normally I don't get to upset but I actually liked NOFS. I thought it was a great blog. But lately.. I don't know. There still is alot good stuff and fascinating articles. Forums have been on a steady decline for a few years. The whole positive video movement is long dead imo. But there at least was the blogs and this forum is still on the up-n-up if you ask me. I don't really know what my point is, just venting. Lately I have accepted that its mostly just the "Ass-Burgers" left online (wrote a blog about that a year or so ago). The pros and artists are out shooting and the rest have moved on to other hobbies. This blog and forum I think is the only place where creativity and art can coexist with the charts people. But its a battle, I see the scene in 300 where they are pushing them out of the passage with their shields. Sorry for the rambling. Like I said, just venting. Stay strong

  4. IMO, for video the GH5 is the best hybrid to date. The jury is out for stills. I think Panasonic needs to add more glass like the 42.mm Nocticron. Great build quality, fast and accurate. It can produce awesome images easily. Perhaps they need to buyout Leica?

  5. Leica 12-60 has a new firmware with improved stabilization and focus. (maybe less jitter?) http://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/dsc/download/fts/index2.html I can do slow pan test with G85 if needed.

  6. This weekend I had the chance to get out a little with the GH5. So I geared up and headed out to take some footage with the new SLR Magic 40 Compact and the Panasonic 35-100 f2.8 ii. All the shots in this video are using the aforementioned combination. I was not expecting much as the anamorphic lens are not supposed to like low-light. But in the end I feel the combination might have some use at night. I am becoming quite impressed with the GH5. It is a very inspiring and liberating camera to shoot with. In any case, check out the video below, and feel free to add your two cent worth.

  9. Take a look at RED webpages, a lot of films are shoot with RED Cameras. So I guess, if you really are professional, RAW is the thing. Those who are not there yet, are still on the 8 or 10 bit track. Soon you can head over to Apple Store and buy a RED Raven.

  10. Thanks for sharing this information. I really like my GH5 - Metabones Speedbooster 0.67XL - Minolta Rokkor PG 58/1.2 EOS mount and B&H Kowa 2X combination. I use the great Rapido anamorphic lens clamp V2. I recently purchased a Porst 55/1.2 in Pentax K mount. Need to get a dremel tool to mod certain parts of the mount to have this fully useful for my configuration. Hope to do this soon.

  11. Do you recommend always activate the Smart Range + ?? In all the recordings?

  12. Yeah! People who do these kinds of videos are SO DUMB I would NEVER do that. . . **Goes to personal youtube channel to hide a dozen anamorphic-flower videos**

  13. With a speedbooster XL the gh5 has me questioning my 1dxII - better files sizes, ibis, small size, flip screen, and the colors are nipping on Canon's heals.

  14. Thats one of the internet problems nowadays. Everyone has always something to say...something to add to a certain topic but the reality is that thats not true at all. Society as brought us here and keep forcing us to do that (to post something, to write an opinion, to share your own life and so on). And in most cases that results in posts and dialogues with insults and etc. Thats why i rarely post on facebook and although i visit eoshd everyday i dont respond or post a lot simply because i dont have anything to add in terms of knowledge.

  15. I've had mine since day one and use it for video and photo. Aside from the remarkable video features, this thing is a wonderful stills camera. I shot a wedding this past weekend with it. Had to boost the ISO to 4000 for the reception and it looks fantastic. The AF-C with 225 point AF worked amazingly. Normally I use my Nikon D3s for receptions due to the low light IQ and focussing ability, but the GH5 blew it out of the water focussing-wise.

  16. @salim Thanks for advice! I shoot drone footage for more than 2 years now. My first drone was a DJI P2 with a GoPro 3 BE. I am familiar with drone flight and shooting - but only with smaller drones like the DJIs. I ALWAYS shoot drone footage with a second person. It's NOT all about stiching. A m4/3 camera will NEVER get similar IQ as a A7R ii + an excellent/outstanding wide angle lens. I've done already some test shots with a A7R ii + Nikon 20mm 1.8 from a very high building to simulate a little bit perspectives of aerial photography and the results were amazing. Stiching with a m4/3 is NOT an option...An A7R ii + light weight Nikon F1.8 primes (20mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm) give me a lot of options for excellent IQ and different focal lengths, even for my second important requirement - low light.... My requirements are all about maximum of photographic quality (OK...maximum for this kind of budget) Thanks for the tip with the M600 / S1000. As I am NOT a do-it-yourselfer with drone electronics and remote/transmitter systems, I need a reliable, professional solution for cameras up to 1,5kg. I have to buy a ready2fly-drone, capable to fit my requirements.

  17. The only thing to bear in mind with the lens throttles are that there is no ND0 setting so you'll always be losing some light. If thats going to be an issue for you (doubtful with the camera you're putting it on!) then you'll need to carry 2 adapters. I only have the dumb version for M43 so I don't know about the AF aspect with the smart one you're looking at but the ND performance is very good and its a neat product. As an aside for anyone looking at one of these for M43 mount, its actually an EF to M43 converter and they supply it with the converter to EF of your choice. So when I ordered it as M42 to M43 it actually is two separate pieces which is great because to use it with Contax Zeiss or Nikon lenses, I just take the M43 to EF part off and replace it with the C/Y to EF or Nikon to EF. Without any adapter I can of course use it with EF lenses as well so essentially its 4 adapters in 1 for me. Plenty of reviews on YouTube including this very nice one from our very own @Mattias Burling

  18. You're going to spend more money on CFast 2.0 cards than the actual camera.
