We filmed Sammy the dog touring around Asheville, NC. Filming a dog is a crazy man's work. So difficult, but working with the cutest actor makes up for it haha... Let me know if you have any comments or questions!8 points

Hi, Wanted to make something new so I worked on this video for several month. Most of the tilt-shift effect is simulated in post (masking in AE), it's not as good as the real out of focus blur created by TL lenses but much more practical than having a huge drone carrying a DSLR camera. I also modded a GoPro lens that was mounted on a custom made drone (TBS Discovery with Pixhawk FC) to get the "native" effect. The inspiration for this project came from Keith Loutit, the god of tilt-shift timelpase.6 points

You may not agree with what Ed has to say, but he has been unfailingly polite in saying it. Perhaps you should dial back your aggression and disdain, as it is of no use to anyone and paints you as an unpleasant individual. And I agree, by the way, that administrators should abstain from approving posts containing aggression and profanity aimed at other users.3 points -

The US solar eclipse and footage

Is that Bush on the phone ordering a nuclear eclipse? Wondering if I can get my Sony ready for that. By then they might have it built in?! I did a timelapse of the meteor shower recently with the Leica SL and old version Noctilux. That lens even at F1 is surprisingly sharp and several bits of space debris were successfully detected. A good job it burned up before hitting the lens. I would do my next timelapse on the Hasselblad but I think the shutter might fall off after 12 shots2 points -

Gear is for art. Art are politics
Ed_David and one other reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
In the UK the other day there was a news piece on this guy... Karl Popper https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradox_of_tolerance It's interesting because it shows the paradox of today's liberal society... The US society is tolerant enough to allow the display of nazi flags outside houses under free speech laws and right wing protests in the streets under expensive police escorts, and it's tolerant enough to allow these people to arm themselves with several automatic weapons at once. The more tolerant we become, the more the door opens to the intolerant ones, the more freedom they have to wreak havoc and destroy tolerance. So Karl Popper argued (in 1945 no less) that for a society to be truly tolerant it has to be "intolerant of intolerance". I suppose in the case Ed raised of alleged discrimination by a photo company, we shouldn't tolerate it, he's right on that. But I am also against building a wall between us and every single person in the company because of the wrongdoings of a few of their management, and I still really don't know if Ed is talking about a shop or a manufacturer. I suppose the point of Ed's post was to get us all talking and I'm fine with a bit of politics every now and again. I just don't agree that race has much to do with talking about cameras. It's a privilege but not just a white one.2 points -

Defending a photo company that discriminates against women and race. - who, what ? Tilt-Shift Dronelapse - Trying something different

Thanks. I broke a GoPro lens and mount doing FPV racing (Dquad obession). I ordered a spare lens with longer focal and no distortion. I plugged the gopro video out cable to a computer monitor and played with the lens position to adjust the "blur". Then I secured the position of the lens with a tad of hot glue.1 point -

Why? Did i ask for that? Should i instead let people defend corportions discriminate against people of color and women? Also using my real name is more courageous than hiding behind an anonymous name and swearing a lot. Because as you guys think im risking my job by my thoughts. Oh no- a production company would never hire someone who stands up publically online against domestic abuse and corporate discrimination against women and people of color. Did i mention i work primarily for liberal people who like that i am opinionated. You know other dps who are opinionated? A ton. Also i dont think admin jonpais should be liking posts that are full of swearing and hate towards another member of this forum.1 point -

Hum, interesting. I knew about new techniques to cut the glass differently as to avoid the onion ring effect, but this trans focus stuff is pretty new to me. I kinda like hard edge (or even soap bubble) bokeh balls though. But there's something to say for some optics rendering the out of focus areas a little too nervous and distracting. Nice diffuse smooth backgrounds really enhance the shallow depth of field look.1 point

I don't really like the new Leica zooms. They're f/2.8-4 which is a bummer and the rendering, like I don't see that signature Leica look (of their primes) back at all. Concerning the 12-60mm, I hardly see a reason to pick the Leica over the Lumix to be honest. It is nice that a wide angle has a filter thread, the beast that's the Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 PRO just hasn't. But then again, you could get the Laowa 7.5mm f/2 and solve that. :P1 point

EOSHD Pro Color for Sony Cameras
mercer reacted to Gregormannschaft for a topic
Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but I judge picture profiles by the results and not tests. Don't get me wrong, these can be very useful and it's great to know that we should all be shooting on Cine1, but the best results I have seen have been with SLOG2 and Cine4 – when I film, the best, most natural results that I've achieved, have also been with these two profiles. This, for instance, is one of the strongest A7SII videos I've seen, and it was shot using the Cine 4 and SLOG3.cine gamma combo. It's a real shame this conversation is still happening to be honest. Hopefully Sony's next cameras give us further colour improvement and we move on.1 point -

I´m lousy, I NEED HELP, best WW adapter in 52mm + Berlin residents around?
PannySVHS reacted to HockeyFan12 for a topic
I don't know the first thing about lens design, either (well, maybe the first thing, but definitely not the second). I've just been playing around with wide angle adapters for a while. I also have one of these for my Iscorama: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/464579-REG/Canon_1724B001_WD_H72_72mm_0_8x_Wide.html It's 72mm and I think it's the very same adapter Chris Probst uses on his Kowa 40mm. The only problem is you might need to find a machinist to grind the mount down a bit. But optically it's really good. There's significant barrel distortion and CA but it's very sharp. There should be some on the used market for good prices; I got mine on eBay and then found a local machinist to grind the area in front of the threads down to fit. For some reason they protrude too much. It was around $100 total in but I got a good deal I think. The machinist only charged $20 but I was lucky to find someone so good who charged so little. Now you're making me want to buy an 18mm f3.5 Nikkor to use with it.... I'm going back to vintage lenses.1 point -

Hey Jon, I read Noams article a few days ago due to cinegains recommendation. These Veydras look tasty indeed. The affordable Rokinon models look boring from the outside:) And they have a rather cheap tactile feel, though focussing is smooth, as is their aperture wheel. That SLRmagic 12mm version I is indeed a soft sucker, as you stated. I didnt wanna believe you, but it is at F4 when it is starting to considerably sharpen up and becoming nice. Would shoot it at 2.8 for macro and distorted POV stuff. Still a fun lens, making me want a 12mm native prime with nice T 2.0 or 2.2 or 2.5 performance or a 17 or 18mm 2.8 or 3.5 speedboosted with nice performance wide open. Still not buying that Leica 12mm. Oh heck yes, that Laowa 7.5mm is looking tasty! And a Black Pro Mist 1/4! You need some Black Pro Mist just like I need myself some cowbell!:) By the way, watched GX85 HD footage, shot with my FD50mm F1.4 at 5.6 at 8, on a large screen with a nice 8000 EU projector, the aliasing with that high resolving Canon lens in hair and skin pores was fugly, digital brutality, so to say. So for the pure beauty of the image, HD for big screen is to be avoided on the GX85. It was with -5 for noise and sharpness.1 point

I think the Merrills are the best of the bunch regarding image quality. Their best images just look thick, to say in forum speech. The Quatros, when viewed at 100% on a monitor sometimes look dithered to me, when browsing through Flickr. The three Merrills lens sensor combinations are unbeatable for the price.1 point

Like many people world wide, I think David is feeling powerless as he realizes that the world is not what he was led to believe. Perhaps he's trying to contribute something meaningful so his life has meaning. Based on his world view as helping right wrongs. We all should speak up about discrimination, wherever it happens, in a kind and stern way. The "photo company*" that everyone references and won't say the name, everyone really knows who it is, and this is disingenuous. I didn't read that thread but saw recently that it was locked when someone posted that they lost a class action lawsuit. Give them positive energy and love and see if they have changed their ways for the better. If they have not, give them reasons in a kind way to stay the right path (as in kindly, without hate remind them, and if necessary do business elsewhere). I personally like this company and hope they will stay on course and do the right things moving forward. If not, I'll take my business elsewhere. It's important not to call people names: perception is projection. You must see those traits in yourself before you can use those words on others. If someone is acting in a harmful way, talk about the actions and how they can be improved vs. ad hominem. What's happening right now in DC is theater: who knows what's really going on. All we can say with some confidence is that there is a force at work to create division and hate, to divide and conquer the USA and the World. What we, the people can do, is ignore the messaging of hate and division, and instead spread love and kindness, knowing that it's all of our responsibilities to unite and come together in peace. We have the true power, and if we don't unite together in peace we'll lose all of our freedom and maybe our lives. The stakes are high. This political storm is happening because the US/Global FIAT petro-dollar currency system is on the verge of collapse. Crypto currency is a direct result of this, that's why bitcoin and similar are going crazy right now. A new system of currency/energy-trade is needed, and the people controlling the current/old system aren't ready to let go of power: absolute power corrupts absolutely. The trickle down effect is people feel powerless and helpless, and want to do something positive (in their mind) to help. Which is what I think David was doing in these posts. There are also powerful psychological tools being employed through mainstream media, as well as through artificial intelligence systems reading social media posts for feedback, which I won't go into in more detail as that is controversial in itself. All I ask is do your own research and look for patterns and try to see the bigger picture. I encourage everyone to share the knowledge about what is really going on in the world / politics / currency / war, in a kind way, and even better, create videos using messages of love and unity, even better through metaphors and simple parables, to help people see the light at the end of the tunnel, and more importantly, to help everyone have hope for the future. To help clear the mind, avoid processed foods and sugar, eat more vegetables and organic foods, avoid tap water (fluoride), take boron supplements to excrete fluoride in food, take DIM to excrete xeno-estrogens from plastics and insecticides, magnesium malate to excrete aluminum and lead, alpha lipoic acid to excrete mercury, and CoQ10 for energy (instead of caffeine or tobacco). Stanley Kubrick knew a lot more than he could tell us directly and he may have lost his life as a result of what he was trying to tell us in his last film. * BH1 point

@Ed_David “And where are we?” I get it, but placing various labels or using anecdotal phrases is just too easy, especially if one has the means to approach things differently. They (labels) can also be misinterpreted or misrepresented by those who have different life experiences or just ignorant for whatever the reason, willfully or not. In such cases it may be best to try to educate or raise awareness in some way. If you feel the need to help, share, enlighten or educate others in this regard, I would recommend that approach. Less talk more doing, not only sounds better, but it also comes across as a more genuine when a real effort with actions are made rather than assuming with labels. If you honestly feel you have so much “privilege” then maybe use it in a more effective and positive way. I see people quite often with much less “privilege” still doing great things to bring awareness and positive changes to long standing issues found in their own communities around the world. If they can actually do something, you and your “privilege” surely can. Sometimes you just have to get out of a comfortable narrative zone, and to hell with the consequences really. Often one has to be at least a little bit crazy. So slightly crazy can equal crazy good. Use your well established professional “chops” that have developed, along with your immediate network/connection resources when needed to create things (documentaries, films, etc.) that you find interesting, meaningful or worthy to further promote and bring awareness to such issues. I’m sure you are surrounded by like minded individuals that believe in doing such non-commercial side projects already… get new friends if not. It can be difficult day-in and day-out and somewhat unsatisfying at times by being involved in the creation of maybe less meaningful content that is sometimes generated when working in the commercial production space. Use any longer downtime between intense gigs to work on your own project ideas covering privilege, discriminatory practices, workplace conditions or any other issues that you have raised in the past. When you’re busy focusing on some side passion projects or just out to create something more positive through awareness instead, that passion project itself also helps to prevent your mind from wandering a bit towards any negativity floating around. Positive thoughts help lead to positive things. One cannot effectively communicate or create such a genuine message to possibly share if negativity clouds the airways. Create something positive to educate using your obvious passion and strong convictions, but just don't tell them (viewers) what to think during the process. Maybe show a different perspective and some viewers would arrive at similar conclusions, have on their own realizations, or just maybe agree to disagree. Regardless, such an approach could start a real dialog and something interesting to share. One also doesn’t have to be a philanthropic billionaire to contribute to society by helping their communities or focus on the different issues that they are passionate about. Use whatever you personally have access to. So use whatever “privilege”, knowledge, opportunity, or ability you feel you may have to bring awareness by actions and create things that maybe you could make a difference or positive contribution towards. Let the negative actions of some condemn themselves, while focusing on any “positive actions” that could ultimately bring a positive influence or encourage others. Whatever project ultimately created in that spirit would be taken seriously and you could then bring your ideas to a wide/broader audience. Most rational people, whether or not they agree with each and every stance you may have on various topics would respect the efforts. At the least you would be putting thoughts into action while others would maybe still be offering nothing, just the same labels or unfortunately perhaps further negativity. Look Mr. Charlie Chicken deep into the eyes and ask him… he seems like an honest bloke. If you ask him nicely maybe he would even help you work it out, if he is not to busy with his Art Retrospective. Good luck1 point

Ignore all sides who preach hate and division, brothers and sisters. They are all coming from the same source, the same people pulling the strings, a layer above and invisible to most. Their goal is to create division and civil war, WW3, to consolidate their global power. DC is locked in self-destructive corruption, so we need to manifest miracles to bring about peaceful change. Perhaps best case scenario is to pardon them all if they'll all leave peacefully. They have most people looking down at minutiae, when we really need to be looking up at our rulers and working together in unity to create real change, at the root source of all the world's manufactured problems. Spread the message of love and unity. Think in terms of what you want, as opposed to what you don't want. What we think becomes reality.1 point
