  1. There are two users appeared on here called "Evgeny Magata" and "evgenymagata" both of whom have only posted about this project. Are you Evgeny Magata Snr or Junior? Paranoid? Haha, yes that is funny to be fair. Just to clarify, I'm not paranoid as I don't really give enough of a fuck about this to do more than a Roger Moore slight eyebrow raise. I probably would be paranoid if there was someone called "btmpix" posting more or less the same content as me though. All on the same thread. At the same time. But that's just me. I didn't say YOU had been on dpreview so, by your own measure, if me mentioning someone who had gets you all paranoid then that's funny. Just to be on the safe side I'm putting you and lowercase you on ignore as I really can't be arsed debating something with someone with such an obvious agenda.

  2. That first video does not look particularly "cinematic" to my eyes. Many blown highlights, underexposed subjects and poor framing. I'm going to replace the word "cinematic" with what it really means... "good cinematography", that is to say, shot by someone who understands the art of cinematography... which is defined as the art of making motion pictures. There is no camera setting at normal playback speed that will do this for you. Light you subjects, compose your shots, have purpose to your camera movements. All should support your story. The second video is again mostly all slow motion, save for one scene that last only a couple of seconds. The title is correct... the GH5 can look quite cinematic... but as we have seen demonstrated time and time again... so can a smartphone. But only if the shooter understands the art of cinematography. At this point in the game it's not the cameras that are lacking, it's the users.

  7. Totally agreed. Ad hominen attacks are highly frowned upon in most forums. Granted, this is a forum about using mostly still cameras for video. But still, if things do go and get heated, things do need some moderation, and someone with enough of a temperament to not put themselves into the equation. I really am not the type to be a moderator, especially on this forum, when several users have it out for me. I understand completely why they would - based on how I word my posts. In the future I will not post from my cell phone in a hurry. Words really can hurt people, and I am trying, day by day to be more empathic, and less seamingly preachy. I am in no ways in any position to preach to anyone, and to explain my original post that was deleted. I see B&H as not an ethical company, and yet, I still buy from them. That was the point I was trying to make - at what point do we actually stand behind our own ethics, and when do we cave because B&H has the best deals and fastest shipping? That's all I was trying to say. And I said it poorly and I revised that post. So I apologize. Apologize for past posts as well. Apologize to everyone who I have offended.

  8. IF the 6DM2 had 4K60, or hell, even 4K24, I'd have had to SERIOUSLY consider switching from Nikon to Canon, which would have meant Canon would have sold new lenses, cameras, and accessories. I suspect that I wouldn't have been the only one, either. I've been waiting, and waiting, and waiting, and waiting some more for a DSLR that could do beautiful 4K, have decent dynamic range, excellent high ISO performance, with functional AutoFocus in video and could take stills that would knock your socks off, all on a full-frame sensor, for a reasonable price ($3000 or less). My D800 has served me well since 2012, but it's very long in the tooth. I bought a used GH2 a while back, which was a lot of fun to play with and gave me some pretty exceptional quality video, as long as the lighting was good, but it wasn't what I was looking for. I looked closely at the Sony A7S II, but it has some pretty big issues and it's not exactly a photography powerhouse, not to mention the slim lens selection and all the headaches people experience if they have to service their camera. The GH5 came along and I watched every youtube and vimeo video I could get my eyes on, I read every review that I could find, and decided that it was the camera for me. The GH5's low light is...well, not so great, my D800 blows it away in terms of low light, and it's a 5 year-old camera, but the GH5 produces some of the most beautiful, detailed video I've seen from any camera, and it does all this for less than $2000 AND I can use just about any lens on the planet. I waited until the 6DM2 came out, hoping it would have what I was looking for, because the price would be right. The D850 rumor that it would have an EVF piqued my interest, but when that panned out to not be true, I pulled the trigger on the GH5, I was tired of waiting for Nikon and Canon. And I may still buy the D850, but it will be purely for photography, since Nikon gimped that camera in the video arena too, by not allowing 4K60, or peaking to work in 4K (which is where you need it most). I can't say I'm excited about the features of the D850 though, it's just that I'm due for a new photography camera and the GH5, while taking beautiful images in good light, isn't really useable, for me, beyond ISO 1600. Canon needs to stop gimping their cameras. Nikon needs to get off their asses and buy, or create a FUNCTIONAL video autofocus, like Canon's Dual Pixel AF (which is one of the reasons I was waiting for the 6DM2 before I purchased the GH5)...there's no better video autofocusing system on this planet than Canon's DPAF. Of course the GH5 has abysmal AF performance too. If I wanted decent AF, my only choices were Canon 5DM4 (bleh) or Sony A6500 and I think the GH5 is a better overall camera than the A6500 by quite a bit and the 5DM4 is a bit of a bear for video (what were you thinking, Canon?!?) The whole thing is silly. If any of these companies had any brains, whatsoever, they'd make one PERFECT camera, with EVERYTHING that videographers and photographers want and put the other companies out of business. Imagine a D850 with GH5 video specs (and lack of issues like moire/aliasing, along with 4K60, 2K180, 8/10-bit, 400mbps, many codecs, full-sensor readout, etc), Canon's Dual-Pixel AF, flat picture profiles of the Sony A7 line, Dynamic Range of the Black Magic Cameras (along with the ability to shoot to Pro-Res or H.264) and the low light performance of the A7S II, combined with the photography features of the D850 (even at a lower resolution). People would only need ONE camera, for the first time ever. I'd pay $4000-$5000 for that. Of course we'll probably never see a camera that does both photos and video perfectly, because of all the gimping and lack of thought that goes into cameras today. After owning the GH5 and seeing how much better it is than the GH2, I'm pretty sure that DSLRs are going to go the way of the dodo, not just for video, but for photography, as well. Perhaps not this year, or next, but it will happen. There are so many huge advantages to mirrorless and the only real drawbacks are "full frame aesthetic" (which is mostly nonsense) and low light performance (which is a legitimate concern and one that I share). Unfortunately, for Nikon, which has outright REFUSED to innovate, they will go away when the DSLR does. I've been a Nikon shooter for many years, over a third of my life and I really, REALLY wanted them to succeed, but they're just not doing enough...they just keep throwing out the same stuff, with tiny modifications, but no true innovations. I'd be surprised if Nikon was around in a decade, and a lot of people have already given up on Canon, because of their incessant gimping of their mid and upper range cameras. Canon had such a winner with the 5DM2 and 5DM3, if they'd continued that with the 5DM4, they wouldn't have lost so many customers to mirrorless (primarily Sony and Panasonic), but if you look at the youtubers who have traditionally shot with Canon cameras, almost all of them have gone to mirrorless. Sony is winning, they saw the end of the DSLR over a decade ago. It's just a shame that Nikon can't accept the fact that the DSLR is dying.

  9. Hi Kino, In relation to this I think it changes little if the heir of Samsung is in prison. The data is clear, Samsung's strategy to focus their employees on commercial products and smartphones has proved to be a great success. http://www.bgr.in/news/samsung-records-85-percent-jump-in-profit-in-q2-2017/ I just hope that Samsung (also for a prestigious issue) continues to shoot professional cameras with NX2 release, also because Red has decided to enter smathphone market with Red Hydrogen damaging the Samsung Galaxy market , So I hope that Samsung to discourage Red (which has 100% sales of professional video cameras) is to produce professional cameras and camcorders, for professionals, invading Red's market. These are just my considerations, but the only certainty I have is that if Samsung comes out of a new professional camera, whoever has a Samsung camera will definitely run to buy it.

  10. Curious that you'd start two accounts purely to cast aspersions on a specific project. I have no connection to this project whatsoever but I can't see the issue even if someone HAD just bought an off the shelf component and wrote optimised code for it and packaged it as a new product. Its the same process as camera manufacturers who don't make their own sensors use so what's the problem? In point of fact, it is better for the end user if the company behind this project do source the hardware and bundle it with their software instead of offering a software only solution as you're getting a guarantee that the whole solution works as designed. The Achilles heel in this respect won't be the input device but the hardware its running on as there is as much variance in android phones as there are variants. As I say, I have zero connection to this project (and I'm pretty neutral about it as a product as well) but can't understand why you'd have such a problem with their approach to such an extent you'd create two profiles on here to cast aspersions on it. I could have this completely wrong of course and your intentions are purely as a public service to warn everyone here of what you describe in your post as a "borderline scam". If so, its to your credit that you'd join here specifically in response to this project to do that and it'll be good to have you add more posts with either of your accounts to contribute to the community about other stuff. Interesting and purely coincidental I'm sure though that your view of this specific project being a scam are also echoed so closely on DPReview by a poster formerly known in these parts. He seems to have a real bee in his bonnet about it too. And if there is one person who knows about scams..... #MyIronyMeterHasExploded https://m.dpreview.com/news/1746775569/lukilink-turns-your-smartphone-into-an-external-hdmi-display-for-a-dslr

  11. Analytics can help show the way. Something new is needed. Something like Functional Spirituality. That is, spiritual activities which if practiced can show real results: such as meditation, yoga, organic nutrition, and 'right thought'. Acknowledging that there are things in the universe that we don't currently understand. That we can mysteriously heal our bodies and help others heal theirs as well as change the world with our thoughts. Even more so with our actions and communications. Put these ideas into the Zeitgeist: get as many people thinking and talking about it as possible, by every means possible. Documentaries, narratives, poetry, music, live streaming, festivals, film festivals, health services, coaching, nutritional products, etc. I'm thinking of starting a 501(c)(3) non profit organization for specifically this purpose, including local fellowship gatherings, perhaps held in traditional churches in Beverly Hills and/or Hollywood. A buddy is an amazing musician and he already plays in a church- we'd have live music too: fun, educational, with real tools to deal with life, and no preaching.

  12. Absolutely. Here's my first go at creating a documentary along those lines, shot on the Canon 5D Mark III in 2012, created after I faced death and took a completely different view of the world (5 minutes long): "How to Live" was a simplification of many ideas, and upon later reflection is perhaps too preachy as a title. Perhaps better: A Way to Live. The ideas are all based on science: math, physics, biology, and simulations. I now also look into the spiritual side of things, along with a lot more psychology. After watching my documentary, someone recommended I study Alan Watts, and that changed my life too: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=alan+watts As amazing as Alan Watts was in explaining very tricky Zen and Taoist ideas (and more), it was (is) still perhaps too long and too deep for most people to have the patience to watch, listen, and study. To start a viral change in global consciousness, we need very simple, easy to remember ideas that people can easily understand and share with others.

    Media bias and Google/YouTube

Today a model I am working with brought up the google employee who was fired recently. I had skimmed his article and also saw that mainstream media was outraged and that he was ultimately fired. I asked her if she had read what he wrote, and she replied she had not. So her support of the firing was based solely on reporting by mainstream media (MSM). It took a bit of googling to find his original document: the MSM sources I found had removed all external links and didn't post the original document. Here it is: https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/3914586/Googles-Ideological-Echo-Chamber.pdf Here's a couple examples where the external links and all graphics have been removed: http://gizmodo.com/exclusive-heres-the-full-10-page-anti-diversity-screed-1797564320 , http://www.wnd.com/2017/08/googles-ideological-echo-chamber/. I didn't check them closely for other deletions and omissions. As an executive and manager of both small and large corporations, I was made well aware by legal departments what is acceptable and not acceptable practice in the workplace. I believe he put google at major lawsuit risk for writing the following: The harm of Google’s biases I strongly believe in gender and racial diversity, and I think we should strive for more. However, to achieve a more equal gender and race representation, Google has created several discriminatory practices: Programs, mentoring, and classes only for people with a certain gender or race A high priority queue and special treatment for “diversity” candidates Hiring practices which can effectively lower the bar for “diversity” candidates by decreasing the false negative rate Reconsidering any set of people if it’s not “diverse” enough, but not showing that same scrutiny in the reverse direction (clear confirmation bias) Setting org level OKRs for increased representation which can incentivize illegal discrimination Stretch, BOLD, CSSI, Engineering Practicum (to an extent), and several other Google funded internal and external programs are for people with a certain gender or race. 6 Instead set Googlegeist OKRs, potentially for certain demographics. We can increase representation at an org level by either making it a better environment for certain groups (which would be seen in survey scores) or discriminating based on a protected status (which is illegal and I’ve seen it done). Increased representation OKRs can incentivize the latter and create zero-sum struggles between orgs. These practices are based on false assumptions generated by our biases and can actually increase race and gender tensions. We’re told by senior leadership that what we’re doing is both the morally and economically correct thing to do, but without evidence this is just veiled left ideology that can irreparably harm Google. This post is related to other posts discussing women in the workplace and now I raise the issue of media bias in reporting, which relates to all of us who create filmed media and are trying to help heal our divided country and planet. From a purely legal risk basis, I understand why google fired Mr. Damore. However, here's the problem for google: if what Mr. Damore wrote isn't true, they could defend themselves, showing that what he wrote isn't accurate. Given what he wrote, firing him might harm google even more. It appears this was an internal document, never meant for public view. The fact that it was released to the public has harmed google, and is now being used as a divisive tool and weapon by the MSM. If what Mr. Damore wrote is true, then some good can come from it to heal division, not just at google but anyone affected by these issues. I realize that both the extreme Left and Right are just tools for division, and see them for what they truly are. I can see how some of what Mr. Damore wrote could be inflammatory for some individuals, however in his favor he did provide links to other sources which support his statements. Which is why it's very misleading when MSM removes these links (and graphics) from his original document. Here is what appears to have triggered the Left and the people funding MSM (see his full document for the rest of suggestions and reference notes, there's a lot more): Why we’re blind We all have biases and use motivated reasoning to dismiss ideas that run counter to our internal values. Just as some on the Right deny science that runs counter to the “God > humans > environment” hierarchy (e.g., evolution and climate change), the Left tends to deny science concerning biological differences between people (e.g., IQ8 and sex differences). Thankfully, climate scientists and evolutionary biologists generally aren’t on the right. Unfortunately, the overwhelming majority of humanities and social sciences lean left (about 95%), which creates enormous confirmation bias, changes what’s being studied, and maintains myths like social constructionism and the gender wage gap9. Google’s left leaning makes us blind to this bias and uncritical of its results, which we’re using to justify highly politicized programs. In addition to the Left’s affinity for those it sees as weak, humans are generally biased towards protecting females. As mentioned before, this likely evolved because males are biologically disposable and because women are generally more cooperative and agreeable than men. We have extensive government and Google programs, fields of study, and legal and social norms to protect women, but when a man complains about a gender issue issue affecting men, he’s labelled as a misogynist and a whiner10. Nearly every difference between men and women is interpreted as a form of women’s oppression. As with many things in life, gender differences are often a case of “grass being greener on the other side”; unfortunately, taxpayer and Google money is being spent to water only one side of the lawn. This same compassion for those seen as weak creates political correctness11, which constrains discourse and is complacent to the extremely sensitive PC-authoritarians that use violence and shaming to advance their cause. While Google hasn’t harbored the violent leftist protests that we’re seeing at universities, the frequent shaming in TGIF and in our culture has created the same silent, psychologically unsafe environment. Suggestions I hope it’s clear that I'm not saying that diversity is bad, that Google or society is 100% fair, that we shouldn't try to correct for existing biases, or that minorities have the same experience of those in the majority. My larger point is that we have an intolerance for ideas and evidence that don’t fit a certain ideology. I’m also not saying that we should restrict people to certain gender roles; I’m advocating for quite the opposite: treat people as individuals, not as just another member of their group (tribalism). My concrete suggestions are to: De-moralize diversity. ○ As soon as we start to moralize an issue, we stop thinking about it in terms of costs and benefits, dismiss anyone that disagrees as immoral, and harshly punish those we see as villains to protect the “victims.” Stop alienating conservatives. ○ Viewpoint diversity is arguably the most important type of diversity and political orientation is one of the most fundamental and significant ways in which people view things differently. In highly progressive environments, conservatives are a minority that feel like they need to stay in the closet to avoid open hostility. We should empower those with different ideologies to be able to express themselves. ○ Alienating conservatives is both non-inclusive and generally bad business because conservatives tend to be higher in conscientiousness, which is required for much of the drudgery and maintenance work characteristic of a mature company. Confront Google’s biases. ○ I’ve mostly concentrated on how our biases cloud our thinking about diversity and inclusion, but our moral biases are farther reaching than that. ○ I would start by breaking down Googlegeist scores by political orientation and personality to give a fuller picture into how our biases are affecting our culture. Stop restricting programs and classes to certain genders or races. ○ These discriminatory practices are both unfair and divisive. Instead focus on some of the non-discriminatory practices I outlined. What many of us are seeing is the Left is completely intolerant of any view other than their own, and have been resorting to violence. If one states they are neither Left or Right, the Left calls them Right, and the Right calls them Left. So while the Right might at first seem to be more tolerant, if one is not "on their side" they can be labeled "Left" simply because they are not Right. Fortunately, the well-armed Right hasn't been violent (we can get into "conspiracy theories" with Charlottesville, so perhaps best to agree that so far only the Left has used guns recently). If we don't start creating counter-momentum of healing the dividing forces, we're headed toward major civil unrest, and we know the government has been preparing for this for a while, so it's best we don't go there. What does all this mean for us filmmakers/vloggers and video hobbyists posting on YouTube? We can help heal the divisions, by creating content designed to bring people together, to better understand the issues, and to always take a position of understanding, love, and kindness. Metaphors and parables are more effective vs. lecturing (is this post lecturing ?). Think about how to better communicate with those who think differently from yourself. If you are posting online, think twice if you are angry. Understand that anger comes from your own ego, not from external sources, and certainly not from a person who has angered or annoyed you: that's coming from within yourself. Debating online is an excellent place to practice kind debate. Because you can take a moment or a break to think more deeply before replying. And by all means don't drunk post or post when upset in general: that's not the real you. Peace brothers & sisters

  16. I did a treatment for a screenplay based on this a while ago - on the afternoon of the inauguration the new Prez is driven to a nondescript house on a nondescript suburban housing estate to meet with some badly dressed old men who take a break from arguing about football to let him know that while he might think he's in charge, he really isn't - and outline exactly what will happen to him and his family if he mentions any of what he's been told. Times now are such that I'd be rather reassured if I knew there were puppetmasters pulling the strings, because nuclear war, unlike the other flavours, is definitely very bad for business. Of course Harrison Ford (for it is he) turns the tables on them, defeats them and takes his presidency on to great things for God, truth and the American way. And explosions.

My idea would be to create different channels for different audiences as a part of a decentralised system. This way one team could focus, for example, on a direct approach and another on a metaphorical one etc. It would help to target people better, split workload and maximise potential of each team.

  20. The idea is one thing, but implementation of it is another. We should create a secret society of filmmakers dedicated to change the world and work as a decentralised system to avoid shutting down ;). Stories with metaphors are good, but some people need more direct stories. I wouldn't limit myself to metaphorical stuff only ;). We should be producing all kind of stories and work on a lot of different levels to maximise reach ;).

  22. Absolutely we can change the world through education! As well as through creating entertaining content which gets people thinking, without having the ideas preached down their throats. Anyone feel powerful emotions when Darth Vader sacrificed himself to save Luke from the Emperor in Return of the Jedi? Those kinds of scenes are emotionally powerful. So here's the metaphor from Star Wars in 2017: Luke represents the people struggling to reduce oppression from the Ruling Elite (the Emperor). Darth Vader represents people in government/military who rise up and overthrow the Rulers to free the people from oppression and slavery. The same thing Daenerys Targaryen does using dragons in Game of Thrones. Those two examples are direct confrontation. Using the internet we can have a peaceful, more gradual change by walking away from the system; creating a new one that works better and self-protects from the primary issue of corruption: secrecy. Some things are best kept secret, however it's a slippery slope and incredibly dangerous when secrecy expands along with fear generated by those in power. So we can tell powerful stories where the underlying theme is an honorable way to live differently that everyone can follow, driven by spirituality and psychology, without divisive politics or religion (spirituality with divisive politics).

  23. You are a brave man shooting 2x anamorphic hand held.... ;-) Very nice framing, and I like the choice of color grading. I've only had the experience of one clip hand-held with the SLR Magic 2x adapter but on a GH4. It did show it's possible but not something I'd undertake for a lot of footage. I was surprised at how much distortion (curvature) there was in your footage, since my experience with a 50mm taking lens and other footage I have seen shows very little. Again, I was shooting on a GH4 where there is a crop factor, so perhaps that helped mitigate the distortion if it was there. Shooting with the combination on the GH5 is on the project list. The one thing I find is of the utmost importance when shooting anamorphic, is keeping the horizontal plane of the camera as steady as possible. As you mention, minor motion on that axis leads to issues. It is a little less critical with 1.33x lenses, but still necessary. Thanks for sharing.

  24. You can call people on BS in a polite way by asking questions or politely stating facts (from your point of view). This can still trigger an NPD response, however with proper moderation the threads won't degenerate into fighting. Think of it like a proper, live moderated debate, or alternatively, all parties making cases in front of a judge, jury, and audience. The judge holds the debate together and if it gets out of hand the bailiffs start removing folks for contempt of court. Or, alternatively put them into a ring and allow them to experience the Rule of the Jungle and see how manners change.

  25. Here's the math again: Bayer sensor resolution * .58 = resolution without aliasing, *.8 = max resolution before extinction of detail. 4096*.58 = 2376 before aliasing starts, then up to 3277 before extinction of detail (and progressive aliasing up to the extinction limit). Just remember those two numbers .58, and .8 (true resolution up to max aliased resolution). To get true 4096 pixels without aliasing, we need 4096/.58 = 7062 Bayer sensor photosites. To guarantee little or no aliasing, the OLPF would cut detail much sooner than the .8 limit, just past the .58 detail level. To get "4K", or 3840, we need 3840/.58 = 6621 (6.6K) photosites.

  26. Perhaps all of us at some time in our lives exhibit traits of NPD. Ideally we become aware of them, so we don't exhibit them, in order to get along better with others: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissistic_personality_disorder: It's very important not to label anyone as NPD, narcissist, or exhibiting narcissistic behavior. The act of labeling will trigger their ego and result in reciprocal escalating attacks. Best to kindly ask them to stop the unkind behavior itself, and if they don't respond politely, this is where moderators traditionally step in and perform private warnings, editing or deleting posts (very tricky and must be done carefully), and finally banning users. This is especially challenging as one suffering from NPD traits can go into a rage and 'stop at nothing' until they feel they have been validated. In summary, we do our best to treat everyone with kindness, even people suffering from NPD traits, however it must also be made clear that persistent unkind behavior is not permitted, and there are consequences for their actions. Years ago in a corporate gig, someone found out I had negotiated a better deal than they had (pay and hours). They exhibited NPD traits, and even went on a campaign to get me fired. I was always kind and professional to them, however I did sternly ask them to stop trying to get me fired. A few years later this same person recommended me to a high level management position at Microsoft. So no matter how bad the situation might seem at the time, following the right path of kindness is worth it. And again, kindness is not weakness.

ISO is now supposedly pretty solid up to ISO3200. Nice 'n grippy for handheld shooting; especially with the 5-axis B.I.S. and optional Dual I.S. (2.0). Vari-angle display with well-implemented touchscreen. Tons of compact native lenses as well, as you know. Keep it light and throw it on a gimbal. And... people seem to be enjoying it for stills as well, for which it also has numerous interesting features. Like, don't get me wrong, the pixel level results from the A6500 sensor are pretty great, like, the amount of dynamic range, level of detail, high ISO noise performance, really great stuff and all. But once you look beyond that, it really falls apart. The body is just rubbish. Like, Sony... c'mon, take notice, all other crop sensor mirrorless camera flagships are pretty nice bodies. GH5, E-M1 Mark II, X-T2, NX1, even the Canon EOS M5 for Pete's sake. But no, they went for a super cute small footprint camera, because that's what Sony envisions the people want. Btw, there's not other choice, there's just one model of this generation APS-C Sony mirrorless camera, atleast the other manufacturers are giving you the smaller ones as an option, not forcing you to go along with it. With flagship cameras you expect great things, but that's hard to realize when you've got only so little space to make it happen... so, chip infrastructure is baaaaddd. That's why you get massive rolling shitter. Heat dissipation is more or less non existent, leading to recording interruptions and camera shutdowns. They've come up with a 'solution': tripod mode! So basically you raise the threshold for overheat protection to kick in, that however renders your camera sooo friggin' hot, that you are no longer supposed to shoot handheld with it. I mean: c'mon son! Anyways, some people are willing to make that work or claim it's not that bad, all I know is: I can't just rely on it at any given time. But ok, we'll shut our eyes and pretend we didn't see anything. Still, the body is terrible. The cardslot is co-located at the battery compartment, you can't imagine how happy I was when the G80 had gotten a dedicated cardslot on the side, rather than the G7's one that's at the battery compartment as well. The battery itself is tiny and doesn't last very long, don't you just love changing batteries all the time? Yeah, well, me neither. There's no dedicated headphone jack for monitoring. It lacks a sizeable grip for comfortable holding. The screen flips, but not all the way up, nor is it of the vari-angle type that flips up from the side so you can still mount a mic on top and still see the screen. It's a touchscreen now, but the implementation is rather limited, you'd expect more from a manufacturer who's in the smartphone game (although, I'm not suprised they're not killing it, the new XZ1 for example looks amazing on paper... just like their cameras, in reallife... they just don't win you over). Like honestly, what were they thinking here. Back to the image, atleast that's alright, right? Well, like I said, tons of rolling shutter and especially color at its default settings is appaling... even generates color channel clipping. You can make it work, but it takes you a lot of tweaking... don't know about you, but I rather get stuff done than dicking around. That's why people love Canon so much, they're like the opposite of Sony. Don't care about innovation, about specs, how it looks on paper. They just want you to pick it up, shoot with it and find the results pleasing with the minimum effort that went into it. Their AF is on point, colors are pleasing right of the bat, light codec 1080p only on many of their cameras so NLE's slices through the footage like a hot knife through butter. But you know, for how long can you really ignore con-/prosumer need for 4K? Slowmo? Sensor stabilization? Vari-angle screens & mic-in port? Etc. So, you're kinda in between these two extremes. And with the Sony btw, lenses. Argh, their lens philosophy. For a good 3 years now their mirrorless lens line-up has been dead (if not taken into account big bulky expensive ENG/Cinestyle zooms), no development no releases whatsoever. At this point the APS-C E-mount cameras are entry level fullframe cameras for poor souls unable to afford the A7 line-up. Atleast with the A6x00 they can start building their fullframe lens collection and wait until they have enough money to upgrade. Don't know man, not cool! For me one of the main benefits of a crop sensor mirrorless body is the fact that the lenses are small, the body itself doesn't even matter all that much, but if you can keep lenses compact, you've found the secret to a compact system! Sony fails to embrace this. Another big no-no for me! It just all adds up... to something that's disappointing, but like, I was looking forward to the A6300 when rumors of it were leaked and it got closer and closer to launch, because I do like the APS-C performance, I think it's a sweetspot. You get a bit more dynamic range and are able to squeeze a little bit more juice out of the colors. High ISO lowlight noise performance is really respectable. Obviously the crop is less, so your options to go wide angle are better. It's easier to establish a shallow depth of field. All true. Like the occasional fullframe look? Throw on a focal reducer! Still, you have the option to keep lenses small... atleast, with those manufacturers that are willing to embrace that path. Like honestly, I'd probably pick the APS-C Fujifilm X-T2 instead (there were rumors of a videocentric X-T2s, but it has been pretty quiet for a couple of weeks now I believe) or the good ol' Samsung NX1, though, that one really doesn't cope very well at high ISO either. Both the Fuji and Samsung have a bit similar issues that make 'em less appealing. First is the less flexible lens mount option, with no electronic adapters either. No sensor stabilization is a biggie for me. And no vari-angle screen, plus the X-T2 isn't touch sensitive either. To me both Panasonic GH5 and Olympus E-M1 Mark II are what mirrorless crop sensor bodies should be all about. Like, there's hardly anything bad to say for them. You might only be able to 'blame' them for not having APS-C/FF sensor performance. But if that otherwise gives you everything you could ever dream of wanting and be compact at that as well... it's easy to find ways to make it work out just fine. So until someone comes up with something like the GH5 in terms of body and features and throws in an APS-C sensor, for me: Micro Four Thirds it is.

  33. Canon are very frustrating. Their feature choices between models are so trivial. So intricately, and purposefully strategised to the point of almost complete bafflement. The 1DX II doesn't have C-Log. The 5D IV does. The C300II has 10 bit 422, and crippled high frame rates. The C200 has RAW, has 4k60p and non-cropped 120fps. But doesn't have a 10bit codec. The XC10 has 422. The C200 doesn't. The C300 MK I does, which is 6 years old. You could go on forever. Canon should just combine the C200 and C300 II together and sell that. Now that would be a blockbuster! But they won't. At the end of the day, it is just cameras, with specs and buttons and other stuff. We're actually lucky to have so many options in order to tell good stories. But still....

  34. Signa 18-35 f1.8 is a beast! you can use it with ex.tele, and you will have 1.4 crop in 4k. with speedbooster you will have 0.75x 2 so the lense becomes (efr numbers) with speedbooster: 25-50 f1.3 sigma without SB: 36-70 f1.8 and in ex. Tele: 50-100 f1.8 Ex. Tele looks really cool, i cant see any IQ loss compared to original mode. so, with only one amazing speed lense and SB you can get 25-100 f1.3-f1.8

  35. Well, actually that video grabber you mentioned in your link, was the thing that started the whole idea for us. We did our first tests, the videos, app prototyping andwhatnot with it. Though LukiLink will be manufactured by the same company (Hint: it's not Pearl, they just resell it), we have our own custom made board inside (without going to deep into this here, but it has a lot to do with latency/lag, and some other parameters, which don't really mater for a video grabber, but for the main usees our product), and we also want to implement some features in the future, that would not be possible otherwise, like LUT upload to the device, an SDI option and some other stuff, which I can not talk about here, because of NDA. Also - if you look at the Kickstarter site - we have a female USB output connector implemented for us, not the fixed cable of the grabber. We made sure that both female connectors withstand the rough handling on set, and don't break as easy as the one of the video grabber (don't ask me how I know). That also makes a custom made housing necessary. Also we developed our own apps that will provide a ton of functions like peaking, waveform, markers etc. - also that grabber does only work with Android and not iOS.

  36. I completely understand this because I think President Trump is an African American Woman because I choose to use a different definition of the words African and Woman. What in the hell are you talking about, Ed? You don't get to choose the definition of words to suit your narrative. I know it's a political tactic to do so, but this isn't a political forum. You know... I also was trying to stay out of this conversation but after reading this nugget, I had to have my one and only reply... Words have meaning and power. People can choose to use words incorrectly, but that would make that person ignorant and subsequently make their opinion moot. Or it's deliberate for a very specific political motive. Neither reason is acceptable. A major issue in our society is the misuse of words and the miscommunication of intent. If you're unsure of the proper definition of a word, look it up. Your argument may become clearer and your points not so divisive. Or maybe you know exactly what these words mean and this aww shucks routine is the character you play? Trump is a lot of things, but a white nationalist is not one of them. It's a moronic argument used as a scare tactic to like minded people that don't think for themselves. There are plenty of valid arguments to be made for President Trump or against President Trump, but that ad hoc attack just keeps the narrative and debate in the whacko realms of the Far Left and Far Right and I would rather hear discussions and points made by the rational center, where most humans reside.

  37. Why are you heading from sausageville to jerksville? Can't I discuss what I like? On a forum setup for video shooters using DSLRs? I shoot a couple of times a week with these things. This stuff is damn relevant. Any time I can save using the same sodding camera to shoot decent stills and video improves my profits. Expecting a camera to not have some compromises is ridiculous I agree. But please refrain from pointless bashing of people who have reasonable expectations and a specific requirement: especially when 422 10 bit for instance already exists in a ~$2000 camera.

  38. For me, it's a great shame the world seems to go from racial and religious division, through political division and onto cultural division so often, like a cycle, and it looks like we're going through one of those phases again, which leads to a world war. The first thing to happen is the mob mentality, where dissenting voices in the crowd are dismissed even if they might be reasonable and logical. Be it a far-left uprising or a far-right one, I hate all extremists. Fighting Nazis is very noble but there are quite a lot who now consider all conservatives or anybody slightly right of centre on certain issues to be flat out evil people. I don't buy that and the Google thing shows that there's a huge, uncontrollable politically correct mob at corporations who can't have an honest debate about certain subjects because they're taboo.

  40. You may not agree with what Ed has to say, but he has been unfailingly polite in saying it. Perhaps you should dial back your aggression and disdain, as it is of no use to anyone and paints you as an unpleasant individual. And I agree, by the way, that administrators should abstain from approving posts containing aggression and profanity aimed at other users.

  41. Why? Did i ask for that? Should i instead let people defend corportions discriminate against people of color and women? Also using my real name is more courageous than hiding behind an anonymous name and swearing a lot. Because as you guys think im risking my job by my thoughts. Oh no- a production company would never hire someone who stands up publically online against domestic abuse and corporate discrimination against women and people of color. Did i mention i work primarily for liberal people who like that i am opinionated. You know other dps who are opinionated? A ton. Also i dont think admin jonpais should be liking posts that are full of swearing and hate towards another member of this forum.

  42. I feel that Sigma are now one of the most innovative of Japanese manufacturers, certainly the most adventurous. Just look at the products. There are 3 Sigma creations I've invested in recently that have blown my socks off and bazooka'd the tea out of my cup... Read the full blog post
