  1. I was Born in Bosnia former Yugoslavia i was 14 when civil war erupted in my country this video reminds me of Serbian Cetnik and Croatian Ustase religious hate group that collaborators with the Nazi in WW2 that rounded up Jews, Roma, gays ect for the Nazi to be send to concentration camps. And that one night in 92 they come for my family just because we happen to be Muslims they rounded up every man of the age of 17 and they wore never seen again they did this all over my town i remember it like it was yesterday. Don't tell me bullshit that you are here to save your self from jihadis terrorist. You have hate and are paranoid and think that every Muslim is after you just like cetnik and ustasa thinks, they think that they have to protect the mother the land from the current threat. You will not fight Jihadis face to face like in Syria, but as always will sooner or latter will target innocent Muslims, Jews, gays ect or who ever you disagree with. Who volunteered to come to Bosnia to kill it was Serbian soccer hooligans, Russian hooligans, Greek religious nut bags and they did exactly the same as you preparing training for some Muslims apocalypse by training with guns like a Rambo, sooner or later when you live in that world of hate and fear you will end up regretting it whens something tragic happens. I lived in a war zone for over 3 years almost lost my life for being Muslim lost family members and friends seen them being taken away in to local hills and never seen them again who did it it was my Serbian neighbors 4 houses down who come at night with guns took my brother and father away but it was my Serbian neighbor who saved my life it was Serbian farmer who brought us milk and bread at night under sniper fire so us kids can eat. When i see this video it sacred the shit out of me because i know where it leads i seen same rag tag military uniforms with some military emblems and religious crosses home made staff like Gregory in this video marching and walking at night through my town when the opportunity come. 25 years its been since the war and to this day I have PTSD not as bad and guns is not the way to regain control of your life after traumatic experience you need help from a professional. And if you think oh shit he is Muslim let me blow your mind my wife is Polish and she is Catholic we have 3 kids with Catholic names been around guns, tanks, artillery seen dead bodies it does not make you a man it just gives you PTSD 2 years down the road thanks god for my wife and family without them i am nothing . Peace and love people for one another that is what we need not more guns and fear

  2. Wow, just wow... Respect for Panasonic just went up big time. Canon who? This is amazing, Panasonic have gone above and beyond my wildest expectations with this update. My decision to invest in the Panasonic system now justified. Canon never did anything like this for us. I am still waiting to see what EVA1 brings, but if the lowlight performance is there, I can see it making a nice addition to my tool kit. If not, another GH5 will be in the cards. In any case, this is massive. The competition is surely looking stupid right now. Hey Sony, Canon, Nikon etc... this is how you earn customers business and repeat business.

  3. I bet you Nikon are really chuffed they let him have a go with it, aren't they? I mean, I have to say that based on this test, the D850 is absolutely off my list now if it can't even be used for shooting wide open on an f1.4 non VR short tele whilst waving it round randomly.

  5. Yes, Andrew, it is impressive! I´ve been a fan of the potential of the Panny codec/color from G6 on. It´s been giving me exiting possiblities for color work. This weeked I shot my short on a GH5. I completely trusted that pixel perfect HD and its least color mode: the glourious 8bit 420 REC709 Natural profile with contrast at 0. This is a screenshot, quickly graded. Hope to get it through the edit and music and postprod quickly. If 8bit rec is already of such beauty, the other modes will be massive. By the way, I shot it 8bit and rec, because of older hard- and software infrastructure available at the moment:) Nothing more uncomfortable than having footage laying around unedited EDIT: We know about the advantages of contrast 0 in rec709 on the new Lumix cameras, sharpness and noise at -5 of course:)

  6. I will be putting a good word in for you with Panasonic Hopefully they will do the extra stretch factors, we need 1.5x as well for Iscorama! Awaiting the anamorphics Brian... To say I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with is an understatement

  7. Glad to see a de-squeeze function, although 1.79x should be included since this is required to go from 4:3 to DCI 2.39:1 without cropping. Of course, I'm biased since I'm currently developing 1.79x lenses! Need to start lobbying Panasonic to add a few lines to their firmware . . .
    4 points
  8. Yes it is possible to use 4:3 as a normal recording mode and crop to whatever aspect ratio you like, such as 16x9 It is only just dawning on me for some reason, that they added a 5K video mode, haha. Just like that! Bang, first 5K mirrorless camera.

  9. Every time. It doesn't matter how many new cameras gets released. Every time we have to go through the same debates based on clips like this where some guy is hand holding a long focal length in a store. And people base opinions of the gear from it... instead of trying it first. Or someone sees a promotional video and say "crushed blacks"... And every time we wait a few months and every single commenter changes their minds in silence when they see what actually can be done with the gear. So like every time before my tips are, Promotional videos always crush blacks on purpose. Some dude in a store shooting with the camera attached to a cable isn't a good sample. Wait. Try it first. Promotional pictures are often very mainstream and stock photo looking. Wait. For gods sake wait! There is no rush. A new camera is released again tomorrow

  12. The SLR Magic 1.33 40 Compact looked like the one to me but the price differential between Europe and the states for it is ridiculous. £699 isn't outlandish really but compared to the $499 it is at B&H then it is an absolute piss take.

  13. That is a most foremost thing, staying on topic! About working and training muscle memory and beforehand being in a good shape: At one thing handheld shooting made my shooting better conceptually, simulating a jib, a tracking shot, pan- helpin all in laying out and planning a sequence. What it also did though, it made me miss that one or two important locked medium shots. So best is to have physical practice and to have the very basic film grammar down. Anything else can be rooted from that. Having shooting styles of the greats boiled down into one liners and standard vocabulary. Tony Zhous video essays are great examples of that. And writing or writing stuff down improves cinematography fundamentally, as a great master of cinema gives a great example of:

I thought of ANOTHER refrigerator related incident: one time an actor was getting some ice out of the freezer above a fridge at the studio we were shooting at and the freezer was stuck a little bit and when she gave it a pull she managed to hit herself in the face with the freezer door causing immediate swelling and what turned into a black eye

  17. All while I'm reading this post and thinking "Why has Panasonic crammed so much value into this camera?" at the same time that Canon plays the protectionist game of doling out features on a tiered "pay-as-you-go" system. And then I read this sentence and it all made sense. "Also the GH5 now has a HEVC H.265 4K mode for HLG added, which allows files to be played directly on home AV equipment compatible with HEVC and HDR, such as Panasonic’s latest HDR TVs." Panasonic is thinking organically of the whole customer, not just some new camera body. A happy GH5 owner who loves their feature-rich camera also begins to love the brand. We buy lenses and accessories sure, but how about the EVA1 or an HDR capable Panasonic TV to proudly show our new footage. So while Canon and Sony may be thinking Panasonic is foolish to put so much value into a $2,000 mirrorless camera, the new GH5 owners are beginning a new relationship that will eventually show the same loyalty many of us had for Canon for decades. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I used the GH5 exclusively on a client gig last week and never brought the Canon bodies out of the bag!

  18. Lurking the forum for ages...and used the GH4 for ages, but haven't commented for quite some time. But I cant resist the urge to comment here...I downloaded all the files and looked at them. Honestly...especially the colors are just crazy good The Wall and The Field AF tests...perfect!!...color wise!! I would love to see those tests without the AF, just nice smooth focus and filming. Panasonic seem to have nailed it, the color depth is great, perfect balance of reality with a touch of saturation and pop to my eyes, Canon gets that too, but for me sometimes the Canon colors move into overdone territory and lose that fine balance. Thats a personal observation tho, others opinions obviously differ. Anyway its very clear that you can get amazing results with this camera without a heap of extras. Motion cadence is another thing that I also have issues with, its something that has always bothered me more than the usual complaints about low light, dynamic range, DOF and almost anything else. The All I does look promising, but I would love to see more shots to see how this looks overall, the Greyhound shots were too fast to really tell, the Dog Spike tho...Stunning in so many ways! But overall...just frikkin GREAT!! I am definitely getting one soon...thanks Andrew, and so glad that Panasonic got you the firmware early, as one of the pioneers of the GH series, they did the right thing, because your reviews are always very comprehensive, excellent review, cant wait for Pt2.

  19. I made a quick video about these GH5 Firmware 2.0 files work great in AVID 8.9.1 You have to 'link' them in - not import - and you need to let the GENERIC plugin link them NOT Quicktime. There has been some discussion on the AVID official forums about "frame counts" - which is why I'm prattling on about them. :-)

  20. Hi Andrew....one of the best camera reviews I've read....and not just because I own one, but for the thoughtful way you laid out what's important for shooting motion....and maybe the most important thing for me personally in your review, was the part about motion cadence...the Achilles Tendon of most cameras....I knew that motion would be improved with the 400 bit all Intra, but that they held on to the image quality too, is such an achievement....Panasonic has now brought the GH line into Varicam territory with upgrades that are significant (actually considering anamorphic desqueeze huge IMO) I almost no longer consider the cost of the camera...it is a little monster by any cost measures really...and I love this companies philosophy of selling you the camera, and then continuing to build that same camera out to it's potential over time....like @DBounce it's making me think of a second one...I've already dismissed the EVA due to the EF mount, but one built out GH5 on sticks and one in the hand makes for a great production package...looking forward to your 2nd part of the review, and the Shooters Guide to follow some time....I think you'll have many takers as this is no camera for a beginner, but it's so capable in a package of this size, it's almost comical....again, thank you!!

  23. Yep...Every writer/puiblisher begging for attention and more coverage...But - as it seems to be - a majority of audience likes titles like "...the new Sony killer...", "...the real Canon killer...", etc. Will an factual article/review/test get the coverage, or does it need a bouncing title and wording? They position themselves as "pros", knowing cameras and the "magic sauce" for professional work. It's some kind of gear and knowledge elitism. And elitism is - from a business point of view - not bad when used as unique selling point. There are many potential customers out there who like this attitude, as they suppose to get the best DP/shooters on the market to work for them... In my eyes, Cinema5D runs a business - trying to get very good paid shooting jobs AND trying to position themselves as "market influencers" too...It's a kind of "dual channel" business...They simply don't care about sub 2.000 USD buyers and shooters, as - they want to express - "pro cameras" are much more expensive...

  24. They are really on the ball. I feel the respected as well and they have really supported EOSHD with this roll-out of the firmware. I feel every penny of the investment I made in the GH5 has been rewarded with this update, and the ALL-I codec is stunning. This is a Hybrid Log Gamma / TV thing, you are best off using H264 for everything else especially the 400Mbit ALL-I. Due to the high efficiency of H.265 it only needs half the bitrate of H.264 for the same quality so it is good for saving space, but it doesn't quite have the filmic motion and fine grain of the ALL-I H.264.

  25. My most (very) recent one was shooting an entire goal celebration sequence on the 'grab camera' (basically a backup with a wide on it that we have on the floor in case of crowd/arty/players coming over the ad board shot opportunities) of probably 40 frames of the scorer deliriously celebrating a vital goal right into the lens and then discovering I had no memory card in it. No, really. I've had a few mishaps with long lenses in the heat of battle. One being falling down a grass embankment at the Le Mans 24 hour race while carrying a Sigma 300-800 over my shoulder and tearing my shoulder ligaments. It was hour 1 of the race so I had another 23 of shooting to go in excruciating pain. The residual damage from that is the reason for my pro mirrorless experiments. Another was spinning a Nikon 400mm f2.8 AF-I on a monopod from behind my shoulder (we have them pointing backwards rested into the shoulder for quick access) a little too fast and hitting myself on the side of the head with it. The reason I quote the full name of that lens is that its the heaviest 400 f2.8 that Nikon have ever made (just under 7kg) so it was quite a knock. Being hit with long lenses is quite an occupational hazard though in big games when we are so bunched together but thankfully most people have got the more modern sub 4kg varieties! I could write a good few thousand words recounting my mishaps while shooting the Tour de France, which would include but not be limited to, a head on collision in a motorhome on a mountain, being punched by a police officer, being hit by collapsing metalwork when a team coach crashed into the finish line, having a fight with a farmer who was trying to steal my tripod and the time I was running really late and was waved through a checkpoint by a steward only to see the entire field bearing down on me in my rear view mirror as we hurtled towards the finish line. I have also routinely forgot things. Like batteries, monopods, remote triggers, memory cards. And that I'd taken two lenses up to the very back row of the Nou Camp to do a wide stadium shot, meaning that someone got a very nice gift of a fisheye when they took their seat for the game a few hours later. In my defence for all these mishaps, it is a very frantic and pressured working environment and things like this are inevitable. Especially when you are as incompetent and accident prone as me

  26. IF the 6DM2 had 4K60, or hell, even 4K24, I'd have had to SERIOUSLY consider switching from Nikon to Canon, which would have meant Canon would have sold new lenses, cameras, and accessories. I suspect that I wouldn't have been the only one, either. I've been waiting, and waiting, and waiting, and waiting some more for a DSLR that could do beautiful 4K, have decent dynamic range, excellent high ISO performance, with functional AutoFocus in video and could take stills that would knock your socks off, all on a full-frame sensor, for a reasonable price ($3000 or less). My D800 has served me well since 2012, but it's very long in the tooth. I bought a used GH2 a while back, which was a lot of fun to play with and gave me some pretty exceptional quality video, as long as the lighting was good, but it wasn't what I was looking for. I looked closely at the Sony A7S II, but it has some pretty big issues and it's not exactly a photography powerhouse, not to mention the slim lens selection and all the headaches people experience if they have to service their camera. The GH5 came along and I watched every youtube and vimeo video I could get my eyes on, I read every review that I could find, and decided that it was the camera for me. The GH5's low light is...well, not so great, my D800 blows it away in terms of low light, and it's a 5 year-old camera, but the GH5 produces some of the most beautiful, detailed video I've seen from any camera, and it does all this for less than $2000 AND I can use just about any lens on the planet. I waited until the 6DM2 came out, hoping it would have what I was looking for, because the price would be right. The D850 rumor that it would have an EVF piqued my interest, but when that panned out to not be true, I pulled the trigger on the GH5, I was tired of waiting for Nikon and Canon. And I may still buy the D850, but it will be purely for photography, since Nikon gimped that camera in the video arena too, by not allowing 4K60, or peaking to work in 4K (which is where you need it most). I can't say I'm excited about the features of the D850 though, it's just that I'm due for a new photography camera and the GH5, while taking beautiful images in good light, isn't really useable, for me, beyond ISO 1600. Canon needs to stop gimping their cameras. Nikon needs to get off their asses and buy, or create a FUNCTIONAL video autofocus, like Canon's Dual Pixel AF (which is one of the reasons I was waiting for the 6DM2 before I purchased the GH5)...there's no better video autofocusing system on this planet than Canon's DPAF. Of course the GH5 has abysmal AF performance too. If I wanted decent AF, my only choices were Canon 5DM4 (bleh) or Sony A6500 and I think the GH5 is a better overall camera than the A6500 by quite a bit and the 5DM4 is a bit of a bear for video (what were you thinking, Canon?!?) The whole thing is silly. If any of these companies had any brains, whatsoever, they'd make one PERFECT camera, with EVERYTHING that videographers and photographers want and put the other companies out of business. Imagine a D850 with GH5 video specs (and lack of issues like moire/aliasing, along with 4K60, 2K180, 8/10-bit, 400mbps, many codecs, full-sensor readout, etc), Canon's Dual-Pixel AF, flat picture profiles of the Sony A7 line, Dynamic Range of the Black Magic Cameras (along with the ability to shoot to Pro-Res or H.264) and the low light performance of the A7S II, combined with the photography features of the D850 (even at a lower resolution). People would only need ONE camera, for the first time ever. I'd pay $4000-$5000 for that. Of course we'll probably never see a camera that does both photos and video perfectly, because of all the gimping and lack of thought that goes into cameras today. After owning the GH5 and seeing how much better it is than the GH2, I'm pretty sure that DSLRs are going to go the way of the dodo, not just for video, but for photography, as well. Perhaps not this year, or next, but it will happen. There are so many huge advantages to mirrorless and the only real drawbacks are "full frame aesthetic" (which is mostly nonsense) and low light performance (which is a legitimate concern and one that I share). Unfortunately, for Nikon, which has outright REFUSED to innovate, they will go away when the DSLR does. I've been a Nikon shooter for many years, over a third of my life and I really, REALLY wanted them to succeed, but they're just not doing enough...they just keep throwing out the same stuff, with tiny modifications, but no true innovations. I'd be surprised if Nikon was around in a decade, and a lot of people have already given up on Canon, because of their incessant gimping of their mid and upper range cameras. Canon had such a winner with the 5DM2 and 5DM3, if they'd continued that with the 5DM4, they wouldn't have lost so many customers to mirrorless (primarily Sony and Panasonic), but if you look at the youtubers who have traditionally shot with Canon cameras, almost all of them have gone to mirrorless. Sony is winning, they saw the end of the DSLR over a decade ago. It's just a shame that Nikon can't accept the fact that the DSLR is dying.

  28. Hey guys!! I was thinking it would be fun and even therapeutic to have a thread about production disasters – war stories about our own mistakes as well as those of others (feel free to omit names to protect the innocent) that have been embarrassing, tragic, etc. It’s fun because we have such a limited camaraderie in our little filmmaking tribe and we can all relate to each other, and also, of course, this is how we learn~! I find that when these things happen, and I say, “I’ll laugh about this one day”, that’s usually the case, but it might literally take years for that day to come. Here’s an example… Once upon a time I was doing a photo shoot with a midget wearing prosthetic makeup. I designed the makeup, built it, and worked for months on it with another artist. Some talent was flown in. Makeup, photographer, lighting, etc. At the time I was living in a big loft/industrial space in downtown LA, so we did the shoot at my place. And of course, being a good producer and host, I had a plethora of snacks representing crafty. Along with all the food, juice and sodas, I got a 12 pack of beer for my friends to enjoy if they wanted to hang around for a minute AFTER THE SHOOT. Naturally I put that beer in my fridge with everything else. As things were getting set up and Bob* (*name changed to protect his precious professional reputation) the midget was getting his makeup applied, I noticed that the lil guy was sitting on his stool sipping a beer. “Ah, he’s having a beer,” I thought. “Long makeup process. Enjoy.” Sometime later, after hours of makeup being applied, I noticed Bob going to the fridge for another beer. I said, “Hey Bob, I was saving those for later, but I can get some more, do you think I should?” Bob slurred, “Yeah, this is almost gone,” and held up a box formerly containing 12 beers, a box that was nearly empty. It was at this point my friends, that reality started to melt just a little bit. The calamity became apparent. I immediately started thinking, “I’ll just do it again, I’ll do this whole shoot again…” Things started getting a little visually trippy despite my sobriety, think Fear and Loathing. Bob was completely, absolutely plastered. He was literally falling off his stool drunk. My friend the makeup artist persisted as Bob began fussing like a child. “MY WIFE…WHERE’S MY WIFE?” he howled. “Your wife is in Chicago, Bob. That’s where you live.” Then the pizza arrived. Bob was hungry. He sat down on my couch and proceeded to eat half a pizza AS WELL AS HALF THE PROSTHETIC MAKEUP FROM HIS FACE. I was in awe. Things did not get any better from there, but everyone on my crew reacted to this hot mess like a champion, they all hung in there for me, and after a ton of work in Photoshop that I should’ve never had to do........ I got images that were pretty close to what I’d originally wanted. I can laugh about this now, but this is the kind of shit that they don’t teach you in art school. Expect the unexpected. Be aware of variables you can’t control. Limit them. It’s become a mantra. HERE’S ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF ME SCREWING UP: One time earlier this year I was shooting some personal stills on my 5d3 with my sunglasses on, cuz I’m so good at photography that I can’t be bothered to take them off at 9am, and I completely fucked up the settings and a bunch of the exposures were ruined. I’ve never done that with a digital camera in my life and that happened this year, in 2017. Thank God this account is anonymous Wow, that WAS therapeutic, I feel great now~!

  30. E-Infinity. The price of stuff on that site is incredible. For instance, the Olympus zoom I got is around £1200 in stores like WEX - whereas I bought it for £639. Had zero issues with them. It seems there's no VAT included on the product, and even then, it's still cheaper when you compare prices when it's excluded.

  31. Well this sounds bloody fantastic. Just this week I sold my FS5 + Inferno and ordered a GH5, which cost £1319 brand new. I also got the Olympus 45-150 2.8 Pro for £639 brand new, along with some specialised lenses (macro, fisheye etc). Bought a Sandisk UHS-II to test out, very expensive cards. Anything cheaper that works? I really really really want to do some anamorphic stuff, Im a big fan of the look however I've never done it, and I'm not too sure how to enter it nice and smoothly. (I'm not into big rig stuff and too much messing around with workarounds). Anyway really excited. Lots of GH5 videos coming this way!

  33. I think this is currently how a lot of people are over the GH5. Not by putting an EF mount on it and offering less reasons for your existing customer base to upgrade to it thats for sure. The EVA1 is going to have to rock people's world image wise because for all people talk about it being a different market, they have to remember that the current safe bet in that market is not Panasonic so its going to take something special to bring people from Canon or Sony. They're not doing it with price thats for sure.

  34. Pretty much. I respect that it's a really tough balance, especially nowadays where even lower end cameras are getting really good. I mean, how do you make something genuinely 4x better than a GH5 at this point?

  35. I wouldn't even care if they only catered to expensive cameras if they were actually adding to the discussion in meaningful, transparent, and honest ways. Prolost still does some great articles that actually inform. For instance: https://prolost.com/blog/rawvslog?rq=log "raw is not magic" helped me learn a lot about how code values are actually recoded in camera and better understand the pros and cons of raw and log. It's night and day more helpful than cinema5D's "You NEEEEEED raw. What's that? A brand new, expensive camera that shoots raw happens to be affiliate linked in the post and mentioned first thing? That's so weird... Totally not planned, we swear."

  38. Hey guys, I've been tinkering away for the past couple months and have finally come across something I'm very excited about. I cracked open the Sony VCL and, unlike the Helder, it is made up of 3 optics. I found by mounting the front two elements of the Sony adapter in front of the rear focal element of the B&H, you not only get a much wider, but acceptably sharp from edge to edge, but you also have a non-extending focus unit. Focus is accomplished by pushing or pulling the center optic of the now three focal elements. This quick tease is on s16 with a 35mm lens.

The major credit card had about 300 bucks of remaining limit. Flights to pay. Weeks of shooting to repeat for direct sound and dialogue. Script re-written with Marco Tullio Giordana on the purpose in order to fit the Portuguese actress (Ana Moreira) casted for the lead female character had to be reduced. And the character had to be cut off. The actress had no role anymore for her contribution and ours as co-producer despite the hard work and participation in the movie as such, after never ending hours of working time. I went to hospital with heart arrhythmia (my 1st experience with Inderal) following two nights and days with absolute no rest for the weary. In the end, the movie is still considered one of the major hits of recent Italian cinema (won five awards in Venice BTW, nominated for the Golden Globes, USA and so on) and helped to launch both Marco Tullio and Lo Cascio careers in their next collaboration together La Meglio Gioventù / The Best of Youth, an epic of 2003 all Italians easily recognise as the History of the second half of their XX century. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0238891/

  45. Look at Formula 1 drivers. Usually they're starting out picking up daddy's interest/legacy. Their environment enables them to get into it at a young age, to start with karting and progress to the big leagues. It's about showing interest, having the environment and possibilities to pursue said interest and put it the time and dedication to learn and gain experience in that field. A big part of one's personality or ability is upbringing. And especially at a younger age you're an easy learner, same for languages or picking up stuff like skateboarding. That said, if your interest is with video games rather than playing the piano... more likely you'll be better at the stuff that you're actually interested in. And you might want to play tennis... but it can actually be that you just naturally aren't very gifted at it somehow, it just doesn't come as second nature. Some people's brains are just wired differently, we have different aspirations and abilities that do set us apart. Wanting something alone isn't good enough... it's not a guarantee of it actually happening. But at lot is possible if you put your mind to it, that much is true. And like that kid that followed in his dad's footsteps... just make sure you have the environment and possibilities to grow and put in the time and get the experience to do just that. One step a day might appear insignificant, but you will have come quite the journey over time.

  46. I'm surprised at how defensive some people are about the blacks. At first we were wondering if it was on purpose or a camera trait. Turns out it's the former, no biggie. Not like everyone's going to agree on creative factors. No different than music, art direction, editing style or anything else. I also don't understand why it's weird to analyze the image qualities of the GH5 in this instance, given the thread title. If it was, "hey what do you think of my movie", that's one thing. But the thread title specifically mentions the cinematic qualities of the GH5. Of course that's what we're gonna discuss! But we get the too cool for school crowd who scoff at paying attention to the very details the thread invites us to talk about. Forums are strange sometimes.

  47. The choice of "crushed" shadows (not really crushed, check waveform, but strong compression and pulled down to 0-3 IRE range) was an artistic one to achieve a very vibrant, dark and colorful look. I honestly would love to work with a Varicam LT instead, or a GH5 with the Varicam sensor and processing, lol... A bigger camera would limit me in many situations, but would be a great option for a way bigger budget (with assistance, another operator etc...). 3 times better wouldn't be the case, some images would profit (way better color science, better DR, better lowlight, no noisereduction nor sharpening etc...) others would be worse (this camera is just big and heavy and would therefore limit my work I guess). I didn't have any worries about doing extreme colorgrading on the internal 10 bit GH5 footage, grades like butter without introducing any artifacts. The codec is just great and miles better than my GH4/V-Log experience tbh.

  48. Since this work looks great already what would be improved exactly by using a different camera? Maybe extra stops of DR or better color in some respects, but what would that really accomplish? Lensing, composition, cinematic craft are strong already in this example. Not being snarky here, truly interested at how images these days could be "3 times" better? Certainly cameras can have more IQ over others, but to what end? Would images in this sort of narrative be all that much discernible? (Unless you're doing some wild grade with RAW for more extreme effects) Aren't we to the point where it all looks good if you know what you're doing?
