  1. Yep easy to trap. "Please send to Ebrahim Saadawi, 1 scam street, fraudtown."

  2. The problem with the 'real' (old) media is that instead of standing their ground and weathering the storm against 'new' media and actually upping their standards, they shit themselves and joined in. You only have to look at the websites of traditional newspapers in the UK to see whats happened as they are culling more of their content from social media and trying to sensationalise it. You regularly now see what 20 years ago would have been a disagreement between two anonymous people in a small town elevated to national 'news' because its so easy, cheap - and natural - for the new crop of journalists at these publications to source these stories and amplify them. We now have a situation where there is a generation that hasn't grown up with any real depth or quality to the media that they are exposed to. If 'real' media is now just a randomly compiled, delayed and watered down version of 'new' media then why the hell would anyone pay for it anyway when you can get the other stuff for free? The future of online might actually be semi-offline for many of us as we seek higher quality of everything from journals, to music, to films but we will have to pay for it directly and properly. If we want people who are providing the content to be serious then we have to be too and accept that we'll have to pay for it. I think it is actually doable and the burnout that a large number of people are feeling about the internet could make the timing of it not far off. The great thing about the internet can be that there is no filter between creators and consumers but sometimes we need to accept that that filter sometimes wasn't a bad thing. These days, everyone wants to celebrate that the big corporate monsters of print, broadcast, music and film have been bypassed but to my mind they've now been replaced by corporates that are far, far more sinister.

  3. Hey, someone put some effort into creating a petition for keeping NX line alive. He even got an answer from Samsung Korea Ceo in which was requested for a better number of people to sign the petition. BUt overall the feedback was positive. If we can show Samsung that we are many, if we all stay together, maybe we'll have a chance if not for a NX2 at least for some new updates for NX1. Let's take a bit of time and sign the petition. It only takes 2 min. Thanks https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/samsung-keep-nx-alive

  4. I always thought it was the Phillip Bloom woodgrain pocket dolly that gave that authentic organic look to footage. It makes sense to me that the playback device is a pretty major factor in perceived cadence. Once you eliminate variables: playback device, frame rate, shutter speed/angle, rolling shutter, jitter (introduced at any point in the chain), scene and lighting, codec and compression, is there some "thing" that makes one sensor or camera subjectively better than another? It almost seems like audiophile territory trying to define the marginally perceptible, but I think many of us would agree that there is definitely something there to perceive and define. Gimme a good motion cadence mixed with that Canon color science.

  5. @Neumann Films sure, of course. But... ^this sounds a little bit like saying, "It's not that difficult to be a great writer." Which I would think most writers disagree with. And if we aren't all amazing writers, we might want to realize it could be a better story without the part where we realize there should be another scare near the end of this 6 minute film and do our best to force an unwarranted one in the 30 seconds we have left, for instance. I was just thinking like, make it twelve minutes instead of ten if that's less jumbled. Have 13 episodes, sure. Convenience and standards are nice, but better is better.

  6. Well, I mean, has this group ever been the cutting edge bastion of science? Or is it, just a bunch of filmmakers and shooters trying to help each other with tips and tricks to improve? And if one person asks the question, and another person tries to help and answer it, should you, dear friend, Can'tSin, be upset? These are great mysteries of life. If you want true, science-based research and answers, go on cinematography.com and ask Art Adams or David Mullen. If you want to have a little fun, stay here.

  7. It would appear the primary factor in motion cadence would be the clock / sampling interval. If the sampling interval is perfect, e.g. each frame sampled at very close to 1s/23.976, that will have different a perception vs. a system with temporal jitter. It would seem film would have some temporal jitter, vs. a digital system would could be a lot more precise. The question is what 'looks better' and if temporal jitter is helpful, how would a digital camera implement it? (statistical sampling: average interval, variance, magnitude etc.). Likewise, if temporal jitter is pleasing, why aren't there post tools which specifically address this? (I've seen film effects which 'damage' footage, however nothing so far that subtly creates temporal jitter based on specific camera systems in the same way e.g. Film Convert works for color/grain). With a precise motion pattern, cameras could be measured for temporal jitter / motion cadence (it would appear that cameras with genlocks could be jittered live).

  8. In the same way cryptocurrency (bitcoin et al) provides a new means for energy exchange/currency, we need a non-government global identity/trust system. After the 143 million person Equifax breach, I received a phone call from my own phone number, stating it was from the phone company and there was a security issue, enter last 4 of social etc. I did nothing and the call hung up after 30s. Called phone company and they acknowledged that the phone network can be hacked and is not secure. So if the phone system can be hacked, calling 611 might not route your call to the actual phone company, and thus any information you provide may not be going to the phone company. HTTPS (AES encryption) is designed to provide a secure connection over the internet, however it's not 100% secure either (it's mostly secure, the likelihood at this point for exploits for most things is low). There's currently nothing like HTTPS for phone calls (or email that is standardized/widely used). It's interesting that most people in this thread so far are using their real name (I'm using my initials with links in signature that can be followed to see my identity). I think there is value in real identities (Facebook tried to make this case, though it's understood that it's not a 'kind' system nor is google ('Do no evil' lol)). So it's understood that some people may wish to remain anonymous (as much as possible) when dealing with 'unkind' systems. However for a forum such as EOSHD and other friendly communities, perhaps it would be cool if there were 'game theory' -based reasons / rewards for people using their real identities as well as positive reinforcement for desired community behavior. Maybe a "Verified ID" badge or similar. For email between trusted friends / colleagues, folks used to use PGP, however it doesn't appear to be widely used anymore. Seems like a great business opportunity for folks to tackle- a universally trusted crypto ID system that is pervasive and not owned or controlled by any government or corporation, similar to bitcoin for currency. Rawlite OLPF- was curious what camera this was for... http://rawlite.com/ EDIT: 'Edgar' was hacked at the SEC: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-09-21/all-about-edgar-and-why-its-hack-shakes-the-sec-quicktake-q-a . This is a very big deal. The world could really use a new trust system...

  9. I don't know.. I honestly thought 1-5 minutes was more of a youtube standard. And I don't see any problem with infinity episodes (or as many as you need). Even if the end is just perfect, I didn't think people were really bothered by "waiting to see what happens next!!" and "wondering how it's all gonna end!!!" for a loooong time. If the end never came, it might be better than if it was only two episodes. But I'M obviously more interested in you making the story right, not caring about the rules. Not that that's the most valuable principle in a webseries.. just maybe keep it in mind, if you start to feel like you're making too many sacrifices

  11. The disaster artists at DPReview have a new headline article for us today. And the main takeaway from the repost is this: As for capturing the photo itself, we asked Hofman if he would like to share anything with our audience of photographers directly. This is what he had to say: "The thing I would really like to tell photographers is to a) Listen to your gut and b) Don't worry so much about gear." *Shrugs* So yes, this is DPReview telling us after 1000's of in-depth reviews to not worry so much about gear after all. Not that this message runs counter to their overall purpose as journalists and camera reviewers, nooooooo Not that by placing this clickbait front and centre on the home page distracts from their core business of reviews and puts off 90% of their existing readership, of course not! Once the novelty of q-tip holding seahorses, microscopic close-ups of peacock feathers and tips on shooting macro photos of boiling water* wears off, maybe we will get to why we browsed to the site, maybe a review or 2... After all it is called Digital Photography Review, as is about cameras. So I did a small sample of one day in September, yesterday in fact, it was a real vintage day for content at DPReview with 12 articles going out and only 2 of them were reviews. So now we can conclude that DPReview is approximately 10% reviews and 90% seahorse pictures, with the readership currently 90% looking for reviews and 10% for seahorse pictures. What I assume DPReview wants to achieve is to switch that readership to 90% looking for seahorse pictures because who the fuck doesn't like seahorse pictures? Suddenly DPReview is going to explode into the mainstream with more clicks than they can handle... Just look at the CUUUUUTE little seahorse!!! * actual articles on DPR Yes even the BBC and they are publicly funded! They have a special place reserved on their main news home page for clickbait, it's the 4th square across under the main headline of the day. The seahorse picture is right up there with a journalist reporting from a war zone. It's what people want. Yes they love a good controversy generated out of nothing. PewDiePie on YouTube owes 70% of his popularity to the Wall Street Journal. And we see the results in their voting and consumption behaviour! I really hope this happens. I hope people get so burned out by trivial, repetitive junk content that there comes a golden age of the internet where the amount of content drops massively and the quality of each piece skyrockets. It would do us all a lot of good to go on a digital diet. This is an interesting point, because the corporate influence is so much more personal and subversive now. They are able to influence which friends we interact with, which ones we see the updates from and which ones we don't, the machines are acting as a filter rather than us. I think by and large machine algorithms are even influencing which articles get written and which don't, despite their original purpose to filter for quality.

  13. I would say make your episodes 3-5 minutes long and then base the number of episodes on the structure of the season/series arc. The soulless children is a great reveal for an episode... is it the first... or the last? From reading your previous posts, you seem to understand story structure, so let the structure of your story dictate the number of episodes... write the entire piece as a long short film or short feature and then it will be pretty obvious where the episodic breaks should be.

  14. I have the 85, 50, 35 and 24 - I had the 16 but sold it. I'm sure they do have high repair rates for a rental house - I mean, they're robust enough for general usage but I wouldn't want to subject them to much rough and tumble - they're clearly mainly plastic budget lenses. Nonetheless, for me, they perform really well. The 50, especially, I find to have a lovely character and almost a 3D quality in the way it separates subject from foreground. My set are also all fairly close in colour rendition. I've got a whole shelf full of older manual lenses that I like to use for both stills and video from time to time, but the Samyangs are what come out if I have the opportunity to put together something 'proper'.

  15. Following Mattias I'd suggest three - if it's good then your audience will let you know that they want more. Making it too short and having an enthusiastic audience is much better than making it too long and risk everyone getting bored. Once you've introduced one idea or joke or theme don't assume the credits last - you'll need to keep them coming (your "black eyes" will result in an initial one-off "wow" but you won't get the same reaction in episode 9!) This comment based on experience of live productions rather than film. "I wish I'd done more" is inspirational and a motivation to keep going...

  16. Start with a few but leave it open to sequals. If you write three episodes so that they stand on their own it won't be to overwhelming. Its always good to have short term goals. But leave a window that sets the story up for more. If you commit to 10 episodes and get bored after 5 it might be a pain.

  17. Yes, agree...the image out of the camera is lovely...very detailed...And I've seen enough great shots from the camera, that I would have rseriously considered it...but the EF mount is of no interest...perhaps in a version 2 of the EVA, they will address that need!

  19. I guess it depends on you priorities. Both combo's give you roughly the same field of view, both are sharp. The Nikons + SB will give you al lot more light and more shallow DOF. But they will be a quite lot more expensive, and the whole package will be significantly larger/longer/heavier than when using the Sigma lenses. (BTW, the Kowa needs to be well aligned to be able to perform at wide open apertures, see Tito's video on the sharpness fix).

  20. "It's now 2017 and the NX system is still alive and going strong. In some cases, the NX cameras still offer technology still missing from other manufactures to date. Think about how impressive this is? That's how ahead of the curve you were." Very true! The technology was an incredible achievement. If they wanted to just do an NX2, an update, I am sure they could swing the factories back into action. Problem is, they have to justify the business plan to the Samsung board and CEO, who has his eyes on sales numbering in the millions. I hope Samsung can see the advantage of doing a smaller scale brand prestige project with the NX2, ahead of a full frame camera launch in the future that grabs a big chunk of the market.

  25. Hey, I've been lurking for a while now, and now it's time to post something. I have a GX80 for a few months now. Last week I found the following video about a DIY windbreaker for the built in MIC. Now I thought that I could design something similar that could be 3D printed. So I did tonight. I still need to find some fabric to test it, but if it works I'll share the files.

It seems, the GH5 and the a7r ii have to "move along" in some case... No offense for Pana and Sony fanboys and pathetic mirrorles advocates, just a suffisant remark... Disclaimer: I use Nikon gear, but emotional investment in a brand is absolutely counterproductive.
