  3. The science is far from settled, for example on the topic of renewables and the management of food, land and the agricultural economy. Further research is needed there to gauge the impact losing all that land to wind farms will have on food supply. Furthermore, it's interesting to hear what Freeman Dyson says in the film about the computer models - that they are a good tool for understanding the climate but a bad tool for predicting it. I'm no climate change denier but the discussion is getting way too dogmatic on both sides of the fence.

  4. Maybe if films like BR 2049 had real suspense people would keep quiet. That's the elephant in the room no one wants to talk about. Yes, there are people who are simply rude in theaters (as in every other place). I've turned around and pushed a guy in the chest to get him to shut up. Which was stupid; three of them. So I hate people who talk in theaters too. However, once I get over my initial annoyance at someone talking, I often think about it and conclude I would have talked too if I had no interest in film-making itself. I enjoyed the cinematography of BR 2049. Hearing the dialogue added nothing, if anything, it made matters worse. The filmmaker has someone's undivided attention to start. The audience has paid real money. The saying in stand-up comedy that you must "kill" your audience is almost literal. The audience will show no mercy and "kill" the stand-up comedian if they're not funny. Hollywood gets lazy; good for the independents! In short, I no longer blame the audience when many people talk. Ironically, no one talked at my showing of BR 2049, but I respect my audience-mates less for it

  5. Where is "in here"? In Germany a used A7r II will run you upwards of 2000€ and the A7s II is never to be seen on the used market. You'll still pay 2999 € for a new one, considering it came out over 2 years ago. Price development roughly comparable with the Canon 5D III I think. The times where the Sony prices plummeted like nothing and a new model came every year are obviously over (which is good and bad, depending on perspective). I'd expect a new A7s III to MSRP around 4000€ in Germany.

  6. UPDATE: okay ive got it!! (that was a long bath) im basically gonna make a pilot, like 14 min long, divided into 3 parts, so theyre 4:56ish (under 5 min episodes) thereby acknowledging all the folks on this board and irl who have said "45 min?!? you might as well make a feature!!!" as well as peeps who have wisely stated "Keep the episodes short, thats what I watch" netflix, here i come~! p.s. been working on show themes. mind u this is spooky and supernatural. thinking about using this as a background track

  7. Hard to argue with Slashcam's results but you will notice in 4K FX the horizontal resolution is very good indeed. This counts for a lot in the real world. This is not a moire camera. It may show some on a chart, yes. All do. I very much doubt it is line-skipping. The results would be much worse if it was. The difference in real-world resolution between the full frame FX mode and Super 35mm is tiny. The other advantages over Sony outweigh the difference in res anyway... better codec for starters. D850 FX 4K: 5D Mark IV 1.7x crop 4K: You will see that the D850 actually out-resolves the 1:1 full pixel readout of the 1.7x crop 4K on the 5D Mark IV horizontally... And that the Canon 4K has worse moire issues... even without binning or line skipping. So whatever the D850 pixel binning is doing from 46MP down to 8MP for 4K it is doing it well enough as to not be noticeable in the real-world vs a 1:1 readout... Very impressive. Let's throw in the A7S II, 1D C and GH4 as well... 1D C... Soft, and moire patterns especially horizontally.... A7S II full frame 4K... Still moire. Oversharpened PP settings used though. GH4... Moire present again! These all look worse than the Nikon's 4K in this test and as we know, in the real world they offer some of the best images around. https://www.slashcam.de/4K-Kamera-Vergleich-u-show_von-i-49-u-mode-i-docompare.html

  8. "Are we doing the right thing?" That's the question The Uncertainty Has Settled explores, and you may ask yourself the same thing about shooting Magic Lantern for the big screen! Crazy or inspired? My friend in Berlin, Volker Schmidt was behind the camera on this film, and the decision to shoot Magic Lantern raw video on the 'vintage' 5D Mark II... Read the full blog post

  9. You're completely missing the bigger picture, literally. The A7R II Super 35mm is fine, but it isn't full frame. The GH5 is not full frame. The D850 is full frame 4K and much better than the A7R II's full frame 4K, better horizontal res and less moire, it's better even than the A99 II full frame 4K which I am very happy with and which was an improvement on the A7R II's image. The codec and colour science are superior to the Sonys. The sensor size and stills are superior to the GH5.

  10. Forget GH5 pricing. GH4 came out a $1699 yet A7SII was $3000. Full Frame is always going to cost more than M43. I have my doubts on it being A9S, more likely A7SIII. A lot of A9 features don't make sense on a video centric follow up. Better battery life, dual card slots & touch screen however would be most welcome. I highly doubt 10-bit 422 4K internal, that would place it above FS5! at best 10-bit 422 1080p and I even doubt that. Probably just ergonomic enhancements and PDAF with new BSI sensor. Maybe a bump in HFR or no crop 120fps.

  11. In my day, all we had was a balsa wood box that captured the nickleodeons with potato starch spread on the intestines of a dead goat. We'd project our film using the miller's windmill and 10,000 candles. At the end of the night we'd have wax burn scars on our hands and genitals, but the images of old man Johnson waving his pickle jar and holding an onion pitchfork kept us in stitches! That's all we had, by gum, and we liked it! http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/weekend-update-segment---grumpy-old-man/n9908?snl=1
