"The Uncertainty Has Settled", a feature film shot using Magic Lantern raw video

The science is far from settled, for example on the topic of renewables and the management of food, land and the agricultural economy. Further research is needed there to gauge the impact losing all that land to wind farms will have on food supply. Furthermore, it's interesting to hear what Freeman Dyson says in the film about the computer models - that they are a good tool for understanding the climate but a bad tool for predicting it. I'm no climate change denier but the discussion is getting way too dogmatic on both sides of the fence.3 points -

"Are we doing the right thing?" That's the question The Uncertainty Has Settled explores, and you may ask yourself the same thing about shooting Magic Lantern for the big screen! Crazy or inspired? My friend in Berlin, Volker Schmidt was behind the camera on this film, and the decision to shoot Magic Lantern raw video on the 'vintage' 5D Mark II... Read the full blog post2 points -

Wrote up a little guide for people new to this and looking to buy their first recorder. And is the way I see the world of low budget recorders is they're ranked like this (starting from worst/cheapest to best/expensive): Tascam DR22WL / Zoom H1 (I'd suggest skipping right over this tier of recorders! But hey, my first ever short film I did years ago was with a chinese shotgun running straight into a Zoom H1!! :-o Shocking but true... everyone starts somewhere!) Tascam DR60D mk2 (the DR60D mk1, before the mk2 came out, is what I myself started out using for no budget shorts as a budding location sound recordist) Tascam DR70D (the *minimum* I'd recommend for a location sound recordist, even if you're just a student / no budget guy. Although in desperate cases, you could scrape by with getting the DR60Dmk2, but doing the opposite and stretching for an F4 is very worthwhile. Certainly, I could travel back in time I'd just have gone straight for the Zoom F4 from the starts! *Except* the F4 didn't come out until a few years later... you live in a very lucky time with so many wonderful options to choose from!) or Tascam DR680 (these can be found at bargain prices secondhand, which is what I did before I then later on purchased a Zoom F4 once that came out & I spotted an F4 at a good price) Zoom F4 / Zoom F8 / Sound Devices MixPre6 (I skip right over the MixPre3, as the MixPre6 is very similar yet does so so much more at only a relatively small extra cost. Also I regard the three of F4/F8/MixPre6 as all on broadly the same level to each other, just varying slightly from each other in one area or another that ones might have a small lead over the other one. This is the tier where I'd see you're now reaching the semi-pro level) Sound Devices 633 / Zaxcom Maxx / Sanosax SX-R4+ (finally you have now got up to the "industry standard" when it comes to recorders people use for small shoots, especially when mixing from the bag. If you're doing this full time as your job or hiring someone who is, then likely this is what is being used. Either that or similar gear, or even something better above this) And if you considering ones priced above those last three.... you're surely doing this full time as a sound recordist and getting a healthy income from that, so why are you asking us here on Frugal Filmmaker? ha! :-P But yes, tonnes and tonnes more options exist at the higher end as well! Finally, if you're considering something in the budget range within what I just covered, but isn't one of those that I mentioned, then it probably is *not* a good idea to buy if you're intending to be a location sound recordist. Something else only might *maybe* make sense if you've got in mind some other purpose for it, such as perhaps you want to record a band in a studio (which has very different needs / constraints), or you're the rare exception which proves the rule, or you are getting lucky finding some amazingly priced deal which can make an otherwise bad purchase decision then make sense if "the price is right". For instance I didn't include the Roland R88, as I feel it is extremely poor value for money in 2017! However.... there was a time at the end of 2016 when the Roland R88 got a huge price drop because it was being discontinued. Even with that massive price drop, the Roland R88 probably still wasn't a smart purchase vs the Zoom F8, but the big drop in price at least made the R88 a somewhat competitive option worth mentioning in a round up of all the various choices. However, that sale is now long since ended, and the prices I see on eBay for a Roland R88 is even higher than what you used to be able to buy it new from B&H Photo! Clearly those eBay sellers are dreaming. Anyway, that was just one example which might have been applicable but isn't now, so I don't rule out the possibilities of something like that perhaps popping up again in the future especially if you very keenly look around for secondhand deals. But for over 95% of people reading this, that won't be applicable, and just stick to going with one of the main ones I mentioned earlier. http://ironfilm.co.nz/which-sound-recorder-to-buy-a-guide-to-various-indie-priced-sound-recorders-in-2017/1 point

Iscorama 36 non-MC: does it exist?
valery akos reacted to mdominic20 for a topic
Thanks guys! So if it doesn't say "MC," it might be single coated or it might be multicoated. That ebay listing looks nice, and definitely looks single coated. The price seems a little crazy though, compared to other lenses I have seen being sold.1 point -

Looks non-MC (single coated) like the Pre-36. Seems to be the best of both lenses, rear element size and Non-MC. "Journalism has become so polarised. Right-wing or left-wing? 99% of the the debate happens in an extreme bubble on one side or the other." Absolutely Incorrect. 90-99% of the Main Stream Media is Left (/Libertarian) Controlled and Funded. Therefore the Majority of Right (/Conservatice) Wing Media is relegated to Alternative News Streams and/ or channels with high viewerships but very uninspiring monetary models. Also a Leftist Reporter or Documentary Filmmaker saying it was an effort was exaggerating the effort only 1000 times.1 point -

I was Born in Bosnia former Yugoslavia i was 14 when civil war erupted in my country this video reminds me of Serbian Cetnik and Croatian Ustase religious hate group that collaborators with the Nazi in WW2 that rounded up Jews, Roma, gays ect for the Nazi to be send to concentration camps. And that one night in 92 they come for my family just because we happen to be Muslims they rounded up every man of the age of 17 and they wore never seen again they did this all over my town i remember it like it was yesterday. Don't tell me bullshit that you are here to save your self from jihadis terrorist. You have hate and are paranoid and think that every Muslim is after you just like cetnik and ustasa thinks, they think that they have to protect the mother the land from the current threat. You will not fight Jihadis face to face like in Syria, but as always will sooner or latter will target innocent Muslims, Jews, gays ect or who ever you disagree with. Who volunteered to come to Bosnia to kill it was Serbian soccer hooligans, Russian hooligans, Greek religious nut bags and they did exactly the same as you preparing training for some Muslims apocalypse by training with guns like a Rambo, sooner or later when you live in that world of hate and fear you will end up regretting it whens something tragic happens. I lived in a war zone for over 3 years almost lost my life for being Muslim lost family members and friends seen them being taken away in to local hills and never seen them again who did it it was my Serbian neighbors 4 houses down who come at night with guns took my brother and father away but it was my Serbian neighbor who saved my life it was Serbian farmer who brought us milk and bread at night under sniper fire so us kids can eat. When i see this video it sacred the shit out of me because i know where it leads i seen same rag tag military uniforms with some military emblems and religious crosses home made staff like Gregory in this video marching and walking at night through my town when the opportunity come. 25 years its been since the war and to this day I have PTSD not as bad and guns is not the way to regain control of your life after traumatic experience you need help from a professional. And if you think oh shit he is Muslim let me blow your mind my wife is Polish and she is Catholic we have 3 kids with Catholic names been around guns, tanks, artillery seen dead bodies it does not make you a man it just gives you PTSD 2 years down the road thanks god for my wife and family without them i am nothing . Peace and love people for one another that is what we need not more guns and fear1 point -

GH5 with SLR Magic 1.33x 40 Compact
salim reacted to Zak Forsman for a topic
The 1.33x SLR Magic Anamorphots don't look great under an f/4. the 50 performs slightly better than the 40. and their 2x is no good under a f/5.6. I've owned them all, briefly. If you want to shoot at f/2.8 or better, you need to go the route of a Kowa or Cinelux ES. I have shot as low as an f/1.4 with each of those and they still look great, meaning, no loss in sharpness due to the anamorphic. the only deficiencies would be attributed to having the taking lens wide open.1 point -
