    Yeah, I have the impression you enjoy the freedom of just shooting whatever YOU like and how you like to shoot it as well. That you're so kind to go 'well, I might as well share my experiences with others' is just a superb bonus for us folks. To start to cater for others in order to grow your channel would kinda be like betraying your own believes and interests, so I'd say: just stay true to yourself, then you'll enjoy it the most.

Having owned all 3 cameras (A7S, 5D3, D750) and used them on a multitude of paid events here is my opinion from a stills perspective: - 5D3: workhorse all-rounder. best sealing and build quality of the 3. best ergonomics (thumb wheel, joystick, ISO button). superior AF point spreading. better AWB. best skin tones. Magic Lantern which adds peaking and a bunch of stuff also useful for photography. - D750: also a workhorse but body & ergonomics are prosumer level. incredible DR (mainly useful for landscape photography) lightweight & tilt-screen - A7S: a speciality camera mainly geared towards extreme low light performance & video. consumer body. terrible ergonomics & battery life. not a very good choice for general pro photography imo. I'd give the clear advantage to 5D3 (especially if you're already in the Canon ecosystem) and even as a hybrid it's still very relevant thanks to ML Raw video. But of course D750 will also run circles around a A7S. Personally, I sold my 5D3 expecting to upgrade to 5D4.. but I've totally fallen in love with the XT2 using Fuji & vintage Nikon prime lenses. The size, weight, EVF, dials & lens aperture control have been a complete game changer for me and I have a hard time imagining going back to bulky DSLR's with no EVFs. The only aspect where (FUJI) mirrorless doesn't fully hold up is flash department which is unreliable as well as the occasional hiccup that could cause missed shots (I've had the AF go haywire a few times). For that alone i still go to Canon and rent a 5D for events where failure isn't an option.

  5. Hello mate, with the evolution of 3d jetprint, I'm getting good value for money. The biggest evolution of NX-L is the Plus version, this is the maximum for use as a videomaker, For color and quality I prefer NX1 + NX-L Plus to Blackmagic Ursa mini. The AF adapter without speedbooster is frozen and I will not go any further until Samsung decides to go back to producing cameras. I hope that in December I will be able to make a special offer to Eoshd friends.

  8. Agreed, while I do find A7rII have more solid colour than FS5 the GH5 is definitely better. (had a7RII for 2 years) Below one is on C500 on RAW to 7Q+ and one on GH5

  9. After too many hours I came to @IronFilm's conclusion. Get the mic close to you lips. Speak fully and stay below 0db and you're good. Anything else, and audio goes south in a hurry! What BLEW ME AWAY is how difficult it is to get good levels through your MIC on Windows. I ended up downloading shareware/freeware from here http://www.darkwooddesigns.co.uk/pc2/meters.html And the camera makers. WTF x 1000! Why don't they have a feature where, like white balance, you have the subject talk and have the camera analyze the sound and set the a value at 0db, or wherever you tell it to set max db. Or allow different gains for each channel. UNBELIEVABLE. Fck, rant coming on Setting levels on all cameras stinks! I'm with sondreg, headphones can't be trusted. And why can't Panasonic have a way to integrate smart phone audio with the clip, or any of them. We're still in the dark ages of audio recording when it comes to these cameras--even the professional ones. @jonpais I'll go where you're polite to go. Hey filmmakers, if you can't set audio in a low-budget vlog then check your fame-and-fortune delusions at the door

  10. Had the A7R2, it’s a great camera, but imo, the GH5 is the better of the two for video. The codecs hold up much better in post. Personally I was never wild about the lowlight performance of the Sony, I think the 1DXM2 is much more organic in this regards. The GH5 checks most of the buttons. But if stills are the main use, Sony > GH5.

  12. @Dimitris Stasinos at this price point and tier, just whatever, get the Deity if you will, or the NTG4, or the 600, or anything from AKG or BeyerDynamics (these are excellent sound companies by the way, with decades of manufacturing professional sound equipment). It is not really that important. I probably buy myself a Sennheiser 440 for this Xmas, as in my opinion, all the other mics are backup, 3rd or 4th options, which is good to have in case something goes wrong, or you really need an additional shotgun, and for that reason the 600 is perfect in my opinion.

  13. Or you're just in your early years of your career. Or you're not a specialist / owner op in the camera department (maybe shooting is just a side thing, and you're usually a director/producer/whatever, then having a mirrorless camera to shoot with is a lot of sense).

  14. I bought these semi-permanent mounts to from Leitax. Well worth the money, perfectly solid. No play like you'd get with an adapter because it's basically bolted on. http://www.leitax.com/conversion/Contax-Canon/Contax_AE/index.html I have a tiny bit of play. It's never come unlocked though. That being said, Panasonic announced they improved the side handle and will ship replacements. I would join the EVA1 Facebook group if you haven't already. Mitch Gross (the Varicam and EVA1 rep) is posting details in there.

  15. @nooneIf 7s is so good, I am wondering why most of us are waiting eagerly for the IIIrd version, and Sony had a second version out almost immediately - in camera's timeline. We too have used a lot of cameras and systems in our time and A7s, honestly, from the perspective of a professional videographer is one of the worst, but with the best High definition high ISO performance, and then, C100 is one of my favorite cameras ever (where it counts) and is definitely on par with the 7s on low light performance. Also, it wasn't that far away in price when new, considering that you are taking the camera, putting 2 SD cards, and you shoot from day to night without worrying about anything at all. There are ways around most issues with tools and equipment, but some cameras have far less issues, and when you are a pro, and run and gun, in the heat of the action you want to worry about as less as possible. Ergonomics and battery life are very important, par example. I know people going Fuji and m43 for pro photography, not one to A7s.

  17. That's an exciting looking rig. Looking forward to seeing images from your Kowa BH set-up. I share your passion for color rendition and dynamic range, and I suspect the EVA1 will perform well with these. Also nice to see that Wooden Camera in Dallas has created a PL mount for the EVA1, albeit one requiring shims and may void the camera's warranty. That's welcomed news nonetheless as I have a happy marriage with my PL glass. Bottomline... Panasonic... needs to provide access to 2x anamorphic shooting via menus, like the Varicams and GH5 do. Then their line will be unbroken. Meanwhile, looking forward to seeing those images.

  19. On YouTube Mattias is a simple man who loves his cameras and dog. Might be a wife or girlfriend there too. On this forum, he's just another raving lunatic Cracks me up! We all need a place to let our lunacy run free. Thank you Andrew Anyway, I'm running out of cameras to try. I want to sell most of them but each camera has a "thing". The C100 perfect video in any light. The 7D shoots raw. The A6300 does 4K and let me run it all day through the USB. Have an a6000 too. The EOS-M3 (a recent edition) has a pop up LCD, mic in, and is small. The X3000 is really portable and has great stabilization. The GR--love poem there. A nikon D80--might want for my copy stand. An A7R, for real estate and portraits. However, I'd LOVE an D850. I'd love a Leica. I want every camera Mattias talks about. A point. I lose some money on each camera I sell. It's the cost of my lunatic hobby. I estimate that it costs me $1,200 to $2,400 a year. It's part of my photo hobby. If I was a full-on professional photographer, however, it would be bad business. Each camera has its strengths and weaknesses. None is the clear-cut best. So it's time wasted figuring it out when it would be better time learning how to deal with camera X's limitations. Or just spending time preparing to take better photos. I hate myself when I spend time on this forum. But here I am Where were we...?

  21. I hear you. There is a huge place for DSLRs that mirrorless haven't been able to fill. DSLRs are still outselling mirrorless to consumers and on the pro scene its still the standard. BTW, this thread inspired me to do a video on the topic. I'm starting to get all DSLR nostalgic. Enough, its not my fault you choose to be a negative nancy instead. I wont debate this with you.

  22. I just rigged my EVA1 up with my Kowa BH (in a Rectilux housing) using my Leica Summicron 35, 50 and 90mm set as taking lenses, and it is awesome. Was also happy to note that i can get away with a 35mm taking lens without vignetting given the fact that I'm doing a 2.39:1 center extraction. Received mine 10 days ago. I honestly thought I'd be posting a bunch of footage with it, but the truth is, I'm having so much fun with it that I haven't had any spare time for uploading to vimeo. Hopefully soon, during the holidays. But broad strokes for me is this is a fantastic cinema camera. the two most important factors for me are color rendition and dynamic range and this excels at both. here are some quick pics from the day I received it, all rigged up and stripped down to almost nothing.

  23. HANDS DOWN the D750 over the 5D3 for stills. Dynamic range on the 5D3 is a joke. Your canon lens are a no problem situation. Just easily sell them and buy used nikon lens instead. I do not understand why all the internet makes a big deal about being invested already to a lens system. You are not being married to your lenses guys..... I have changed 4-5 times of "system" and selling a few lenses has never been an issue.

  24. Thanks Jonesy, I really appreciate that. Man, this movie is so Lo-Fi it’s kind of taken on a mind of it’s own. Due to a family medical issue, I lost some filming time this Fall and due to casting issues... nobody likes working for free... I am constantly rewriting the script to accommodate actors and tempt them for casting. Over the next month I am going to put together a 30 second teaser to try and drum up some interest from a couple actors I want to cast... so to make a long story short... soon hopefully. I’ll leave you with another screengrab from my last shoot and best location I have found...

    Magic Lantern Raw Video

    So, I’ve been using the histogram with ETTR Hint since I started shooting ML Raw and for the most part it’s been pretty good to me but during my most recent shoot, the exposure seemed off and perhaps too high. It was much harder for me to use my regular color workflow on the clips. Here are a few shots I did that turned out okay... Anyway I remember reading that most people like using the spot meter... or recommend it for the most accuracy? I had a few minutes today and I tried out the Histobar with clipping warning and even though I couldn’t see which color channels were clipping, I preferred that it was at the bottom of the screen compared to the Raw Histogram. Does anyone else use the Raw Histobar and do you have any pointers?

  28. Thanks for the tips - but we're all different, shooting different things in different scenarios for different purposes and a different audience. On this most recent shoot, the A6500 + Zhiyun Crane was a huge, huge asset. The fact that you can now use tools like this instead of rigged up, expensive stuff and get professional level results (with operator skill) can't be underestimated.
