  1. He has the X-T2... I just see it as someone really appreciating the thought that went into the GH5, like to me both it and the E-M1 Mark II are how you do a camera body, there's really not much else to wish for. In terms of features, the GH5 is killing it as well. On paper it's one of the most well-rounded cameras out there. In the end everyone is right, though, so no need to argue. Different folks, different strokes. Priorities, needs, wants, stuff you're willing to compromise on for the sake of something else. In the end the most important thing is that you've got a camera, that doesn't stand in your way of creating, with emphasis on 'your'. If you're loving the process and results, it's all good.

  2. Pretty sure I'm the first person outside of China who has the new Kinefinity TERRA 4k. I've been a bit of a ghost on this forum since going all-in on the Kine pre-order, but here's an unboxing video by way of saying hello again:

  4. I'm pretty excited to see what this new GH5 model has to offer. I'm happy with the GH5 and see the prospective GH5 "S" very intriguing. My favourite modes are the 1080p 200m All-I in 25p and 50p. The quality is exceptional for "lowly" 1080p, haha. Been shooting a traditional Christmas video this week, all in V-Log 1080p 50p All-I....

  5. There’s a line from the classic baseball film, Bull Durham. In this particular scene, the veteran player on the team, Kevin Costner, is trying to convince the up and coming pitcher, Tim Robbins, that he needs to take his talent more seriously. Tim Robbins replies... “I have a Porsche with a Quadraphonic Blaupunkt.” Kevin Costner calmly states... “You don’t need a Quadraphonic Blaupunkt, you need a curve ball.” So as much as I see the positives in the GH5 and am constantly surprised by how many damn features the camera has... I wouldn’t need half of them, or more. If I was going to shoot small sensor, I’d rather shoot with some form of S16 digital sensor... be it with a BlackMagic or with a 1” sensor bridge camera. So everybody has different needs and wants.

  6. Dont agree with this at all. Find the ergonomics of the Fuji excellent. Not as good as a NX1, but certainly better than any Nikon, Sony or Panasonic I have used. Much prefer the ergonomics of the X-T2 to G85 or GH3 or GH4 ... never used a GH5 though. BTW ... I despise swivelling screen so just a matter of taste I guess. Thank god Fuji do not do a swivelling screen Really looking forward to this camera. IBIS, top plate LCD and internal F-Log. All the things I thought were missing from the X-T2 will be delivered Should be a nice hybrid cam.

  10. With the new firmware 2.0 update, the Panasonic GH5 becomes the first 5K 10bit H.265 mirrorless camera, and you don't even need an anamorphic lens to join the party. Read the full article

  11. Now downloadable from Appstore: 10.4. Upgraded to High Sierra with APFS today, clean install. No glitches detected so far. New version feels more responsive. Only plugin: Neat (seems to work, but slow as usual). Existing libraries need to be conformed. So beware - a one-way. But no cul-de-sac. CC tools make me believe (after an hour of playing around) that I won't use Resolve anymore. Apple stole the HSL curves, which I use the most anyway. To monitor HDR, you need very expensive third party hardware, so I skip this for now (long thread I started a year ago). But I was right with one thing: Apple promises an easy SHARE option for various distributions. If PQ (HDR10) needs two versions (one in SDR), Compressor exports the film as a bundle, allegedly fully compatible. We'll see.

  12. @mercer are you on Sierra or High Sierra? If it's working that smoothly on just Sierra then I'll probably go ahead and update FCPX after this project is done

  13. Updated... Holy Crap... it runs so smooth. The color tab is so good now. I’ve been using the color board for a while, but I had to jump back and forth between the Color Board, Colorista IV and Color Finale and now there really is no need to... Everything can be done in the color tab. Since I’ve never used the Hue/Saturation curves in Resolve or Colorista, this is something I need to learn more about. However, I don’t love the way they implemented LUTS... going into Inspector first seems like an unnecessary step that could have been a subset of the color tab and I don’t like that you can’t control the strength of the LUT, but at least they have made it insanely simple to import LUTS. Again, if FCPX could just import CDNG files, then I would be completely satisfied.

  16. This is not about IQ & I'm not "hung up" on sensor size, it's a question of aesthetic preference, and I'm currently infatuated in the Super35 zone. I prefer it over FF and obviously M4/3. . FWIW i love Digital Bolex and was sad to see them go and have shot many commercial projects with Blackmagic gear and continue to do so.. So yes, depending on the project I absolutely would and do use other cameras "over my XT2".. never claimed it was the end all be all of cameras.. unlike your statements with the GH5! Sadly this is starting to sound like fanboy defense talk...

  17. I seem to remember a lot of chat about these Kinefinity cameras: many interested alas many people a little hesitant to go for what seems such an unknown quantity (compared with all the usual suspects of manufacturers) so I salute you for taking the plunge

  18. @Cas1, color has greatly improved, GX and G85 cameras offer great colors already. GH5 has great color as example above and others show. But it´s always easy to screw color up:)

  20. Also, I shot eveything on a7Riii using pro color 3.0. I had to dial it in a bit as the color science seemed a tad off

  21. @mercer the wait was crazy! I actually ordered the 5k a year ago, full-price. Was considering asking for a refund but was really intrigued by the specs of the 4k. Will post again when I shoot something legit with exteriors.

  24. Thanks for the reply. I've been rather busy as there is a wildfire in my area. Thanks for the information. I think I'm going to rent one of each and try them for myself. I might post a video comparing the two. I'll let you know if I do.

  25. It happens with most smartphone cameras since they only compensate for pitch and roll, and not for the yaw axis.

  26. Without disagreeing with the overall need to overcome our internet addiction, we have to be careful of what effect abandoning these net neutrality rules could have on the society. The problem is that SOME sites could have 56kbps and OTHERS could have 1000000Kbps. And guess what, people stay longer on sites that load faster. Now what happens when my ONLY internet provider doesn't want me to read certain news outlets? We have a very easy way of biasing and manipulating masses of people. What do those people do? Elect idiots that are getting the world closer to catastrophic event, either by global warming or nuclear holocaust. And it is not that I am being gloomy, that has already happened in the microenvironment of Facebook, and now it is allowed for any type of internet interaction.

  27. That's awesome. 60P 10 bit is really great. 1080 @240 is also great. Since this is a new different sensor, having Phase Detection AF would be EVEN more great. I am not buying it without that, even if it would do 4K10bit @ 240p (well ok I would...)

  30. Hi Milton Nice shots and once again a very nice example for the beauty of vintage glass! Congrats to your tiny sweet YashicaScope! Why buy boring overpriced knew projection lenses? They are only great for projection!

  32. Please don't put the XE3 (or XT20) in the same basket as the XT2 or upcoming H1.. That camera does pixel binning with it's 4K image whereas the XT2 oversamples so you don't get any aliasing and have a much cleaner/detailed image. Here is an XT2 video promo.. all footage ungraded and mainly shot handheld.. as you can see zero problems with hair or other fine texture:

  33. @Milton Lopes Hey Milton, great post and fun to read. A lot of people here are not native speakers of English. Your text was written in perfect English and moreso in perfect manner. Those shots you did have beautiful color.

  34. Welcome and congrats on a nice deal! Not that you asked (or that you didn't already know), but I'd recommend checking out a Rapido set if you're thinking about more anamorphics down the line, particularly those 8mm babies. They're cheap and often universal to other lenses: http://www.rapidotechnology.com/ Nice tests, too!
