Veydra Mini Primes vs. SLR Magic Hyperprimes for MFT
webrunner5 and 2 others reacted to John Brawley for a topic
SLR Magic are legit. I've been buying for them for many years and I have many of their lenses. They are Hong Kong based and they've never been great at marketing. But you can order them with confidence and they're now available from big box retailers like B&H. You can also contact them directly and they'll generally get back to you. The hyperprimes are indeed their stills lenses "cinevised", so de-clicked etc. If you want PL, then they make their own VERY nice APO primes. I recently shot this and am finding few people can pick the SLR Magics from the Panavision Primos and Zeiss CP2's that they're being compared to. JB3 points -
G85 my next step?
Dustin and one other reacted to webrunner5 for a topic
Ahh well stated. I know it is easy to spend Your money LoL, but I think that will end up being a good upgrade, I think even a Panny G7, which I had, is a great camera for the money for video. The G85 is sort of a outgrowth of the G7 with better colors and IBIS. Nice upgrade. Jon on here, the Moderator, has done some really nice stuff using a G85. Now he is rich and using a GH5 LoL. I am a big fan of Nikon colors but they are just too far behind on their cameras to use on a daily basis for Video use. Here is a reason I mentioned the Panny G7. It is, and can be this good. I would still go the G85 route if you can, but if not a good option. http://www.4kshooters.net/2017/12/18/canon-c200-vs-panasonic-g7-can-you-guess-which-is-which/2 points -
So why would anyone buy a C200 then? Crappy raw and better battery life for only $5,000 more? That's not how Canon rolls....2 points

Canon 1DC vs Canon 5D Mark IV
Dunjoye and one other reacted to Ollywood88 for a topic
Guys, Love this @dunjoye I shot this with The Canon C500 IN 1080p and the Canon 1DC. It is such a special camera. I was also looking at selling for the 4k 60p auto focus of the Canon 1DX 2. If the 1DX 2 just had that lovely super 35mm mode I would be gone. Still love my 1DC.2 points -
What will a mirrorless camera be like in 2023?
IronFilm and one other reacted to Don Kotlos for a topic
But it is getting better. A novel made with the help of AI actually got pretty good reviews http://bigthink.com/natalie-shoemaker/a-japanese-ai-wrote-a-novel-almost-wins-literary-award I expect AI to significantly improve color grading as well based on the content of the image. And if you haven't heard AI generated music before I strongly suggest visiting this link and playing with the parameters: https://deeplearnjs.org/demos/performance_rnn2 points -
Panasonic was going to release the GH5s yesterday but after reading this thread they realised it would never live up to expectations and cancelled the whole project.2 points

Kinefinity Terra 4k has landed
Marco Bentz reacted to Raafi Rivero for a topic
Pretty sure I'm the first person outside of China who has the new Kinefinity TERRA 4k. I've been a bit of a ghost on this forum since going all-in on the Kine pre-order, but here's an unboxing video by way of saying hello again:1 point -
I got my G85 for about $550 (got an open-box kit for $800, sold the kit lens for $250), and it was worth every penny just to get IBIS. The slightly improved lowlight and colors over my GH4 were also nice bonuses. By far the best value for money for video right now IMO.1 point

G85 my next step?
Dustin reacted to webrunner5 for a topic
Trouble with the bargain stuff you sort of always find some excuse to Not go out and shoot either Photos or video. Ah It can't do that, oh it doesn't have that on and on. A person needs to get a proven older camera, ergo a Panasonic GH4, a Canon 5D mkII, Panny G85, on and on that works and you have no excuse. You know it works so make it work LoL. I know a person can shoot good video with about any cheap gear but why unless you just want to make your life harder, and it is hard enough to make good stuff with a Arri Alexa if you don't learn it, use it, figure out it strengths and weakness.1 point -
G85 my next step?
webrunner5 reacted to Dustin for a topic
Just put in a low ball offer on eBay for one. If I get it I will consider that a win. Will probably start saving up the Christmas money so I can purchase a good used g85 body/lens and somethinf like the lens turbo for the tamron. I don't need 10 Bit of the GH5 and it seems this camera is everything I need in a camera right now. STILL looking forward to the manfrotto grip1 point -

“The Middle Path”: A Lumix GH5s Short
Cas1 reacted to sam rides a mtb for a topic
Thanks Luke! This looks great! Thinking if it's not the EVA S35 sensor that's the "big" thing, then it may very well be much improved SNR for cleaner, noise-free images with a greater range of ISO. Also DR seems to be pretty spectacular in all of the images you shared with us. Perhaps this is due to not a larger sensor, but maybe larger pixels due to an overall lower pixel count. Please keep the teasers coming - not asking you to reveal anything (don't want any trouble for you and your Panasonic NDA), just rather a few more frame grabs and BTS shots until official launch would sweet. Sure there are others here too who would like to see more. On another note, congratulations on the new family member And totally get it if you spend less time here and more time with family as that will always be more important than teasing us with frame grabs lol.1 point -
G85 my next step?
Dustin reacted to webrunner5 for a topic
I have had one for awhile. I really like it. I can tell you though unless the newest ones have been updated there was a cheap ass "C clip" that holds the 1/4 tripod screw in that broke on mine. I was lucky it broke on my mattress!! And I am not the only one it happen to! I went down to Ace Hardware and got a Better one. It is able to be put into your pocket if you shrink it down. Nice one use solution. Worth the price.1 point -

TC in/out?? HELL YEAH!!! This is big BIG NEWS!! Hasn't been a feature for Panasonic MFT stills cameras ever before, with the one exception of the GH4 YAGH.1 point -
Thanks for the link man! I apologize for the confusing post but to clarify, I do already have a tripod and monopod, I'm just looking for an almost pocket rig or something small enough to fit in a camera bag that will take away some of the shakiness on my handheld. That tripod looked nice and lightweight though! Appreciate it! @jonpais one more stupid question...it says it supports 2.2 lbs, would this one be more suited to my big tamron zoom? Or would the first one be just fine. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?A=details&O=&Q=&ap=y&c3api=1876%2C{creative}%2C{keyword}&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIm52hweCT2AIVErnACh09YgHAEAQYEiABEgIyHfD_BwE&is=REG&m=Y&sku=11787341 point

Thanks @jonpais. It's certainly the route I'd like to go. For the current term I was hoping that manfrotto might take some shakiness out of handheld if I kept it close to my body? i have a decent bento monopod but for handheld run n gun/family videos when I just wanna shoot it's not as ideal. Think this will do the trick in the near term?1 point

Net Neutrality – For or Against?
seku reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
The internet architecture at the moment as intended by the universities and scientists who created it. There's a lot of commercial interests to change that, so there's a lot of propaganda and mis-information on the internet and on TV, with funding links back to the commercial and anti-net neutrality government interests. The Trump government will say to you that they're liberating the internet from their control but it's the opposite. They are allowing creator control over the user. There's more money in it for them, otherwise they wouldn't bother. They are going to get that money from you, by bundling the sites you use into a higher priced premium tarrif. It also allows them to censor sources of information the Government doesn't like or rival services. Just like they do in China. A network service provider could for instance prioritise their own rival to EOSHD over me. Or even their own version of YouTube. The customer, you could then say, would leave... It's a free market, blah blah blah. Well, if every single service provider is doing the same shit, it's not a free market. What we have now is a free market for content creators like me, to provide you with a site at the same speed and price as everyone else, included in your standard internet or cable pricing. It's a truly level playing field, so don't let big business and government lie to you and manipulate the truth. Especially not a Trump government. That's right, a new tax with the user paying more and usually what starts in the US has a habit of ending up in other countries as well. The other problem is it is in danger of creating a really segmented internet where you can only ever enjoy one part of it at any one time. People can't constantly swap and change service providers, they will be in 24 month contracts before long anyway. If you only have one connection available in your area and it is with a company that is anti-Netflix, would one be happy with their shitty rival version and no alternative? How is that a free market?!1 point -
Recording sound for video is exactly the same the last 30 years (I am working as a sound man the last 20 of them). Only big difference I am aware of (and I am going half a century back to make it count) is the wider use of wireless systems. 416, a 70s design, is still my workhorse, and a lot of people's also. What you need, now and then, is physics (acoustics) and a lot of experience. Nothing is going to change the next 5 years. At least not as much as in sight/image. My hi fi system is from the 90s, there is absolutely 0(zero) reasons for me to upgrade. To the contrary, in the generation of bluetooth speakers and listening music from tiny ear buds, my hi fi is even more impressive (acoustically). Do you know how many TV sets and image players have me and my family changed since then?1 point

@noone Come on dude, the article clearly exposes blatant sealing weaknesses of the A7S2.. and yes some camera models (especially Nikon & Pentax) are much superior to average in weather sealing: Go try that on a Sony cam!1 point

sorry, but better cameras mean better image, not better sound. Even "better pre amps", better microphones, and better recorders, do not mean better sound. That kid, or anyone, could always do something amazing with 300$. I still have my super 8 slicer, film stock on the fridge, and a couple very good cameras. That kid, or anyone, could have done amazing things with all these.1 point

..you forgot Fuji XT2: 132.5mm (W) x 91.8mm (H) x 49.2mm (D) weight: 507g (including battery and memory card) & A6500: 120.0 mm x 66.9 mm x 53.3 mm weight: 453 g As for the 7D3, well it is kind of Canon's last chance at videographers for 2018.. they could turn a few heads around (myself included) if they gave us a DPAF equipped body with a non-crop (APS-C/Super35) full-readout 4K mode, C-Log and gave us another option than MJPEG or at least 4K HDMI out.. but that would mean Canon listening to consumers.. and what are the chances of that happening?1 point

Panasonic seems to be announcing something "BIG" on December 15
maxmizer reacted to Oliver Daniel for a topic
The announcement is that the GH5S has not been annnouced. It’s looking like it will be better in lowlight, possibly have better DR and a couple of new frame rate options. It’s unconfirmed as to whether there will be an “Auto Hollywood Mode”, where any video you record will instantly look like Hollywood.1 point -
Honestly I was pro net neutrality until I saw these. It really opened up my mind on the issue. Now Im conflicted. Please watch them before you comment and respond with emotions. Take it in and listen to what they have to say. Its important to be educated on both sides. Like I said, Im now on the fence on whether itll be good or bad. Let me know what you think after you watch those! Really interesting stuff.1 point

I know I should be hawking the 1DC right now. But, if I were you... Because you are coming from the NX1... I’m sure you haven’t invested in many Canon lenses.... Go with the Gh5... and later the Eva1... You know that Panasonic won’t disappoint in the long run.... and because your a bonafide film student... you of all people should appreciate the 6K opengate anamorphic mode....1 point

I'm against it. I'm very much in favour of the "sanctity" of the relationship between buyer and seller and not having a third party sticking their nose in, ie. the government and the crony capitalists (ie the ones against freemarket capitalism). The bottom line is all providers shape traffic and small users are always affected by big users using up the bandwidth. Most unlimited broadband deals are actually limited because beyond certain limited it gets cost prohibitive to not charge more. If a provider gives you a bad deal you go shopping down the road. If the government gives you a bad deal, you're stuffed.1 point

Matt Culley reacted to DBounce for a topic
I’ll go one better than this... what if another manufacturer releases a camera that beats the GH5 in every way? Better handling, low-light, battery life, IQ, AF, stabilization... just crushes it in everything. Will that hurt the value of the GH5? Of course it will. It is a well established fact that the GH5 suffers from poor AF in video and low-light is not exactly the best. All GH5 owner purchased their cameras, so we all stand to lose some resale value. But after the next release of the new “best camera”, our current cameras will be no less capable than the day we bought them. Cameras are generally not an appreciating asset. If you wish to make money with them, you must do so by using them to create a product that then earns a return. Let me give you all a heads up... after you plop down money on the new GH5s, rest assured that a relatively short while after doing so, a new better camera will be released. One that addresses the shortcomings of the GH5s (or whatever model number). And yes, there will be shortcoming. If this bother you, don’t upgrade. You only realize the lost once you sell and lock it in. Why exactly is this a problem? As I recall there is only one camera manufacturer that ever promised not to release updates in a short timeframe. And that manufacturer is Canon. The irony of that is Canon are consistently given grief for not innovation rapidly enough. Yet the only way they could do this would be to release more regular updates. Also the model protection that Canon puts in place so that no model steps on the toes of another is constantly criticized. Yet in doing this they seemingly protect the value of each of their products. If you prefer Canons way of doing things, well buy Canon. They make great cameras. But if you want the latest and greatest features and tech, go with Sony or Panasonic.1 point -

Thanks Jonesy, I really appreciate that. Man, this movie is so Lo-Fi it’s kind of taken on a mind of it’s own. Due to a family medical issue, I lost some filming time this Fall and due to casting issues... nobody likes working for free... I am constantly rewriting the script to accommodate actors and tempt them for casting. Over the next month I am going to put together a 30 second teaser to try and drum up some interest from a couple actors I want to cast... so to make a long story short... soon hopefully. I’ll leave you with another screengrab from my last shoot and best location I have found...1 point -
