Just got a Voigtlander 40mm 1.2. Haven't had a chance to test in video yet. But DAMN

  2. I don't appreciate this comment. And I agree with @Cinegain Less one-line URL posts to shitty clickbait news articles.... and more camera tests from YOU guys. Make your own content. If you do take time over it, you'll post less... but better quality. Just a thought.

  3. Probably. I have a memory about them not carring about paying for prores either.

  4. Nope, it didn't go past me! I knew about it even before it was officially announced. But it is just very uninteresting and unappealing. Thus I didn't talk about it. I don't think I want to add up the money I spent last year on sound gear so I can calculate the ratio..... as the total would be scary! But I can safely say the ratio would be high indeed! Because on the camera side of the equation: I purchased the Z Cam E1, think I might have got a couple of lenses or so, oh and the Samsung Gear 360VR camera. Plus a few bits and bobs like a variable ND filter and a VCT plate/rails. However that is pretty much all I did for the year when it comes to camera gear! But sound gear? Oh boy, a lot.... I don't *only* post to EOSHD ;-) Yeah, but there is no shortage of options for small portable handheld recorders like that. (I for instance own a Zoom H1 original and the Tascam DR22WL) And this new model is no great leap forward over the original H1

    Casey Strikes Again.

I guarantee somebody could post the same topic/content in both sections and the post in the main forum would get more views and discussion. Obviously, you cannot control what people respond to but I think it could be easily measured that the tech is of bigger interest than the results of the tech.

  6. Well... too make things even MORE complicated, the inspire 2 is capable of mounting many different cameras. So it might have a good camera or a really good camera!!! Also, kind of depends on which version of the Phantom 4 your other friend has. The phantom 4 pro (often called a P4P) and the Phantom 4 Advanced (called a P4A) have one-inch sensors and variable apertures. I think the Phantom 4 Standard has a smaller sensor with a fixed aperture. Personally, i like the footage I have seen from the Phantom 4 Pro and Phantom 4 Advanced. I am not familiar enough with the different camera options on the inspire to say if they are better (I suspect they are because I know that the inspire can have a m43 sensor camera outfitted to it.) The Mavic and Spark have lesser cameras than the Phantom 4 Pro or Advanced, and lesser than the inspire. The googles are NOT supposed to be used by the drone pilot. But they might be helpful for YOU if you will be able to instruct the pilot (move to the left, ok lower, go forward, etc.,) The pilot is required to maintain line of sight (meaning, looking at the drone at all times). I would agree with Salim above that an inspire with an m43 camera would be great. But again, a P4P or a P4A might do the job... But I hope others will chime in.

  7. I guess the new alexa's will also come down in size a lot. Probably the size of a ursa mini pro. Which makes grip life much better. And yeah the image will blow away the current alexa image probably. But I am happy with the current Alexa look :), so for me it would not be a deal breaker. Its still better a better look then any RED for me. But I do not have the money for the supporting grip atm.

Got myself some new glass for Christmas. I do prefer native lenses but the Sigma Speedbooster combo works really well! Screengrabs from GH5 + Speedbooxter XL + Sigma 35/1.4 + Black Pro Mist 1/4. Edit. Oh yeah, thanks to @jase and @kidzrevil for introducing me to Black Pro Mist, and other, filters.

On the subject of favourite lenses. Mine has to be the Canon 17 f4 L TS-E "17-35 zoom" A couple of video screen grabs when mucking around with it this morning at about 1.4x and as normal.

  10. The render shows also a mic input, if so this would be the PERFECT camera for vlogging for me! I've been wanting an ultra compact camera, with a 1" sensor and flip up screen which also most importantly.... has a mic input!!

  12. I really like the H1 for how convenient it is to use with the built in microphones, but the lack of sound insulation for the microphone made the built in mics unusable for outdoor use. Wind hitting the handle would be enough to distort the sound. I hope the H1n has improved that part. As a pure recorder I find the Tascam DR-10 to make more sense.

  13. The RX line already had competition with the mark ii and LX15. And in some respects the lx100. I recommend at least five people to consider the canon mkii over the rx100xx. All of them choose the Canon after trying both. Imo that says something about appealing to regular people. Personally Ive bought the rx100, ii and the iv no less than 4 times and been disappointed. So if Canon makes this it will be on my radar.

  14. @Andrew Reid "Also to do 4K 60p in such a compact body is very hard". Nope, DJI Phantom 4 Pro has a 1" sensor in a super tiny body (smaller than this) and does 4K60P log. Sometimes we try to technically excuse manufacturers a lot when it is just marketing decisions. 4K60P is easy with today's tech. Wether it is FF or 1". If you do not see it in a 2018 camera, it is because the manufacturer decided not to put it. Most likely because they have a 12000$ camera for that they would like you to buy instead.

  15. In film school we were told that sound and sight are 50-50. Just count your image spending money, and then the sound. What is the percentage? 99,8 to 0,2?

  16. That is an incredible price. This is a jacket-pocket size camera that I use as a B or C cam for live recordings (2-3 hours shows) and does NEVER overheats, even in the warmest summer days of southern Europe. A great and very powerful mini camera. Fact: when it was out, heavily criticized by the special press about the fact it couldn't do full readout on 4K. Several Nikon dSLRs later, and bigger and multiple times more expensive cameras that over heat, or do not 4K at all. NX500 looks better than ever. And dead gorgeous too.

  18. Back then the budget UW lens for m43 is Panasonic 14mm 2.5 with Sony VCL-ECU1, that will give you 21mm focal length with f2.5 to boot.

  19. Definitely a jib for indoors shots. I have a drone pilots license (technically, a 107 Airman's Certificate for sUAS). In general, for a rooftop shot, you can fly up to 400 feet ABOVE the structure you are inspecting / working from. But there are all sorts of rules and regulations; 1) Controlled airspace. Are you flying in airspace that is controlled by air traffic control? (Usually airspace near civilian airports is controlled and you need permission from the FAA to fly in that airspace.) 2) Is it restricted airspace? Flying near military bases, certain government buildings, or even national parks has flying restrictions, as does flying near jails. 3) Flying over people: Unless they are part of the DRONE CREW (like a visual spotter or the remote pilot in command), then you are not supposed to fly over them without getting a waiver from the FAA. This means you can't fly over people even if they are your actors. (You can fly over a person in a car, but only if that car is NOT moving and it has a roof that is closed. You cannot fly over a moving vehicle. You will need a waiver to fly over actors out in the open or in moving vehicles. Good luck with that.) 4) The person in charge of the operation will need either an FAA 107 license are an FAA 333 exemption. This is a COMMERCIAL operation. A commercial operating is ANYTHING other than pure hobby / recreational enjoyment. Think of it this way: If you flew over your home to see whether you needed to clean the roof gutters of your house, that we be a commercial operation (even if you plan on cleaning them yourself). If, on the other hand, you cleaned the roof gutters first, and then afterwards flew your drone above your house to admire the awesome job you did cleaning the gutters (because it makes you feel good), then that is a NON-commercial use, and you would not need a drone pilots license. These are just the FEDERAL regulations. The feds control the airspace. Your local town, county or state can control WHERE YOU CAN STAND when you fly your drone. Some cities allow you to fly while standing on private property WHEN YOU HAVE WRITTEN PERMISSION from the owner. So in short, if you want to fly LEGALLY, then you should hire a pilot with a 107 certificate or a 333 exemption and make him responsible for doing all the research on federal and local restrictions. BTW: Flying at night is illegal. You can fly up to 1/2 hour after sunset and up to 1/2 hour before dawn if the drone is equipped with appropriate running lights.

  21. Tie a 20lb weight to your arm. Done. Increased mass will mean it takes more force to alter the momentum of the camera #physics. Your footage will look silky smooth. Obviously use a tripod for stationary shots. How did we survive before the gh5? Also (though I prefer Panasonic over Canon) this is a good attitude to have:

  22. I don't. No-one does. I have developed regular E-6 reversal in s8 and s16mm. If one can live with some gritt, low framerate and more gritt then s35 widescreen is very easy to shoot and develop. The camera is like $50 Starts at 0:45 ish Or if you can get your hands on a D16.. grabb it and don't let go. And that includes the Monochrome imo.

    Casey Strikes Again.

I keep a tab open on the main forum index, that means old topics get flushed out by new ones to the 2nd page. If we have everybody opening a topic for each article they found interesting, there's no conversation anymore. I mean, if you want to start a single blog kind collection thread where you post all the articles that you find interesting, that's cool. But likely, we all come around the rumor sites, news sites or subscribe to these channels if that had interested us already. So... when we have that out of the way, we can come here and discuss our own experiences, like you say, help and inspire eachother, you know, human interaction, rather than a flood of posted articles. And yeah, of course, what this guy says: Now I could've dropped that video in it's own topic... but I didn't.

So your advice is to continue the ENDLESS threads about how a Alexa is better than a Cellphone on here, and the GH5s just sucks to some, and still ending up nobody, including me post shit for movies or shorts wise. This place lately is becoming All Talk and no Action.
