  2. Yes but in that mirror space, they could include a hefty ibis system or internal NDs... who am I kidding... Canon won’t do either.

  4. according to "canon rumors" Canon is sending out “very elaborate” invites to select dealers and VIPs for a mirrorless camera announcement next month. The invitation was described as being very high end, printed on heavy glossy paper and showing a silhouette of a camera shaped like the EOS M6 with a hole cut out (similar diameter to a dildo)

  5. Hello I am photographer for 30 years and have been working with a lot of cameras and lenses but why is everyone only looking at sharpness? Its like driving daily in a 400 pk horsepower Porsche on at your daily destination; but a Porsche has no comfort at all ! The Sigma Art lenses are flat and have no character ! And I know it because I worked with a lot of lenses; they are only sharp;' is that all where it is going about? having a 400 horsepower car at your daily traject ??

  6. Sorry...typing mistake, I meant "but as my 12-60 already gets me so wide"...I would recommend that if possible you try the Leica 12-60 at a shop...you will be surprised at how wide 12 on the GH5 is. If you're looking to get ultra wide in a truly economical way, I've linked the SLRMagic 8mm below...at f4 but only $176 and no adapter needed....and it's tiny. You also don't need a Speedbooster....the mount is m4/3 already. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1322738-REG/slr_magic_slr8m4_8mm_f_4_lens.html

  7. It's essential to keep the forum organised though. Completely flat structure might work well for lower traffic sites like Personal-View.com but not here.

  8. A test of several Sigma lenses on the Sigma MC-11 adapter. For comparison I included some Sony E-mount lenses as well. With the MC-11 adapter, the Sigma Canon EF mount lenses (and their own SA mount lenses) use continuous PDAF (phase detect AF) in video mode, just like Dual Pixel AF on a Canon body. This isn't possible with Canon's own lenses or with the Metabones Smart EF adapter. In the test: Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 ART (super 35) Sigma 24-35mm F2.0 ART (full frame) Sigma 20mm F1.4 ART (full frame) Sigma 24-105mm F4 (full frame) Sigma 30mm F1.4 (super 35, e-mount) Also: Zeiss Batis 25mm and 85mm for comparison. Video mode: 4K XAVC-S at 25p, in Hybrid LOG Gamma. Graded to Rec.709 in post. Read the full article

  9. Awesome results. The 20mm 1.4 on a gimbal should be insane. Super wide for action yet possible to blur the background. This is the type of lens you are happy to bed FF. Good luck having a 10mm lens on GH5 that can give you a bokeh equivalent of this 20 1.4 on ff. for portrait lens it is not an issue as a 42.5mm 1.2 will give you great enough DoF control. Super wide, not so much. What i would love to see is a comparison with tracking : someone walking towards the camera : will the Sigma MC11 track as good as a native lens ?

  10. Obviously Canon pushes everyone to EF lenses (Sony took a good lesson from this Canonikon approach). Never did much for EF-S, nor M. The 22mm, 11-22mm, kit lens and a 55-200 are just perfect for most amateur's uses. M bodies aren't capable for pro jobs anyway, so no point in professional grade EOS M lenses. In my opinion Eos M system can be all an amateur want. For me, was never an option, because of the limited eco system. Even the dead NX is miles ahead. That hole probably is a full frame sensor.

  11. Since releasing their first Mirrorless camera in June 2012 Canon have produced two primes EF-M 22mm f/2 STM. ... EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM. and five zooms for mirrorless.EOS lenses can be used with an adaptor as well but this is not making advantage of size and weight advantage of aps-c mirrorless .

  12. Just light all of outside well and you'll be golden. (this is why it is best to shoot outside at golden hour, then pull down the exposure a little to simulate night best you can)

  14. I'll have to check those out sometime. Soft focus can be used as a narrative as much as anything else. I really like when talent moves into the plane of focus especially when it's shallow. It has it's purposes and can even make accidents look intentional. ?

  15. I know it has been said 100 times on here, and by me. IF you Don't need 4k I don't see how you can not look hard at a Sony PMW F3. It is just a beautiful camera output and controls wise. And they are giving them away! I just don't see how a person can do much better than Maybe a used Canon C300. I see those 2 cameras maybe not as good as it can get, but about as good as you need cameras for 1080p. I mean how many of us Really need to output in 4k? 4k is far from some minimum requirement. Sure down sampling from 4k to 1080p is a good thing. But the Canon C300 is already doing that in camera, and the F3 is well, it is a F3, about as good as it gets. It is worth looking into I think. I know you are not a big Sony, Canon lover but hell reality is these 2 cameras have shot a shit pot full of stuff that have made people, hell some, millions of Dollars. Are they wrong, ehh I don't think so. These are two bargain basement Cine cameras with a proven record.

  16. Sounds very logical. When I worked at Microsoft, you'd be suprised how often tech companies sabotage their competitors and even themselves. Very, very politicial. Teams of various products competing constantly for budgets/headcount, and a lot of ppl being thrown under bus. The net value is the consumer receives the crap shoot of this, and marketing teams have to scramble to make somethiing out of nothing. Most of my job there was fighting to keep my job.

  17. It's very expensive, yes. Sony's GM pricing is a laugh. The Sigma 20mm F1.4 would be my choice for wide. The Sigma 24-35mm F2.0 is a stop faster than the 16-35mm. But if you really need that ultra wide end, 16mm... The Tamron 15-35mm F2.8 for Canon mount is actually a very good lens... But it won't have video AF like the Sigmas and Sony GM.

  18. I think I know what you're saying. Though the linked videos do technically look stunning and vibrant, there's still a "character" to it regardless of colorspace. I don't know if it can even easily be put into words. When I saw the first footage from even the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera there was something very "cinematic" about it. Almost like paint, or luster. It's motion is different. Is that shutter speed, rolloff, global shutter, no fringing, what? I can't technically explain it. I get those same visceral reactions when I see footage from a RED or Arri. I've spent a lot of time, energy (and money) trying to replicate that feel with my NX1, using various pre and post tricks, which I think I've gotten closer to what I'm describing than what I've seen of the GH4/5/5s to date, regadless of bit depth, colorspace, resolution presented in the most filmic way. Now I want to be clear so I don't butthurt a few ppl. I'm not saying the GH"" anything sucks. Not at all. I do beleive the "character" it produces has a viable seat at the industry table. And I love a good $underdog$ story, that's why I'm also a big supporter of smartphone filmmaking. As a creative more than a technical craftsman, I'm always going to lean on the side of quality story than quality image. Though I do strive for both as a matter of passion for excellence. Also, I do own and love my NX1, which out of the box isnt terribly "filmic" in the sense of what I consider that definition to be. Although, that definition isn't scientific, it's subjective. I'm also brand agnostic. I'll go with anything if it provides me what I'm looking for. I could care less what the label says, and if a director has an issue with that they can hire a fanboy, plenty to pick from. Right now, I'm definitely looking heavily at BM products. Arri/RED are way out of my price range (and most everyone else) and I think the BM look is very comparative to those more expensive systems. No, I don't equate expensive with quality. It's not always true, in fact I would say the markup on Arri/RED is probably next to highway robbery. The feature:cost ratio is insane, and thanks to progressive companies like BMD and Kinefinity, (Samsung had they stuck it out) I think more ppl are going to realize they're getting cleaned out for the availability of a few extra tricks. Will 2018 be the year of the shake up?

  19. @noone that is no true. Samsung has the option to go X1.2, X1.4, X1.7 and X2 years and years ago. I usually put this on the Fn button on the lens (settings put on that button, you can cycle through a lot, are changed by the turn of the focus ring), so I can change the setting without taking my eye from the viewfinder. Admittedly, have no clue how good, or bad, this works, but for amateur photos I do (photography is just a hobby for me), and with the 28megapixles APS-C BSI sensor, it's ok. @EthanAlexander JVC LS300, has REAL Variable zoom, that one can control with the zoom rocker!

  20. Hi to all! My friend Juan from France sent me Moller 63/2x, so I decided to remake it as rework other bulky ana projector lenses. First impressions - can work with that lens. Overall weigh of lenses without body around 700 gr. Little lighter than 35 NAP 2-4 / 2-2 (800 gr), and much lighter than 35NAP 2-3m (1 kg). First examples: In future I'll add examples to the extent possible.

  21. The autofocus is truly one of the best things about the A7R3. Panasonic GH5S should have really addressed this. Bit of a missed opportunity. Because A7R3 going to gobble a lot of sales based just on the autofocus.

  26. Actually, I am impressed! I just listened on my speakers, and the quality for internal mics (and such a low quality video) is excellent. I am not sure what do you expect more. Having an external recorder and better quality microphones help a lot (let's say a Sound Devices Mix Pre 3/Zoom F4 and an Oktava mic on a stand).

  27. The quality for internal mics is very good. I wouldn't expect anything better than that, I am sure Panasonic engineers spends some time thinking about mic selection and placement on their camera, but there are a few limitations of what the internal mics of a camera can do, and that is not going to change any time soon. NZ is cool!

  29. How about a medium format to m4/3 0.4x? Seriously though, the GH5 has so many options depending on which glass you mainly own. If you mainly rent, just rent the different adapters along with. If you have FF glass, get the 0.64x XL. I did that and it works great. You can punch in to 1.4x TC mode too If you have Aps-c glass, get the 0.71x ultra. If you have PL s35 glass and you are going from PL-EF-m4/3, make sure the lens actually fits with the metabones optics, or smashy smashy. If you have s16/16mm glass, get the c-mount/PL/arri to m4/3 you need and punch in with that TC (either 1.4x or 2x, depending on the image circle of your particular lens).

  31. Why don't you stop down the aperture to get rid of the vignetting with APS-C lenses? Why don't you stop down the aperture to get rid of the vignetting with APS-C lenses? then you could use the XL. Why don't you stop down the aperture to get rid of the vignetting with APS-C lenses (smaller and cheaper)?
