  4. I think you could have grouped some options under one: image quality. DR and noise, if not also colour and resolution. As it is, I can't vote for any one of those things above handling even though I find it to be the most important spec although then again, if I really valued image quality over handling then I would have bought a bmpcc by now..

  6. Not sure if I can distill it to one feature, but I'd say overall usability. I used to want to squeeze every ounce of image quality, and would sacrifice ergonomics for it. Now I won't. Most things are good enough, and I'd much prefer to use a camera that lets me get a variety of shots quickly. Something that just makes the whole process easy and enjoyable.

  7. I'm a hybrid artist. none of mentioned options) one of a time i was d3s lover but that was... different age, none of love is left in current specs days, y'know pal. still loved every camera I had but that's not a feeling of a lover, just a user who's distantly looking at naked digital data. And i was looking for gh5s with high interrest: almost ff proper anamorphic mode, 240 fps, so juicy. But after its showed up I was like "eh, I can live with x-t2's 100Mb 8bit and fuji color (and a nice codec; I'm really liked the way it work), I don't want to use recorder to really get some advantage of 10bit and spend tremendous amount of money for new body, overpriced average ois lenses, speedbooster and super speedy fancy sd cards [ when I don't want recorder at all]" GUYS PLZ DONT THINK I WANT TO DISCUSS SOMETHING ABOUT GH5/S)). I don't) Oh , and Fuji is always looking awesome: solid retro without any soap-look. Oh, did I mentioned I'm a hybrid artist [ and a Panasonic is no competitor here at all ] ? [ this is a $10 handmade lens on x-t2 ]

  8. I've found my perfect camera. It took me ten long years of searching but I finally found the one. She may not be perfect to others but she is perfect for me. So don't give up hope she is out there for you! By the by I really like the raw grittiness of the image coming out of the Fuji - see the video I posted above. I think it is unique in this respect. For some reason Im interested in seeing what photographers and nonpros can get out of the camera. There is something natural and organic to the shooting style that suits the camera. It isn't suited to a more commercial polished looks like the gh5 series. Fuji cameras have personality that's why I like them. That's saying something for a mass produced product.

  9. Windows 10 hands down. And I say this removing all my bias and past work with Microsoft. It is by far the lightest and most performant version of Windows and this was/is the exact charter of 10. No OS is perfect. Doesn't exist. Never will. Windows 10 is a solid performer. ?

  10. I was a Beta tester for Windows 10 hell 3 years ago it seems. I have Never had a problem with it after like Beta version 3. Windows 7 is like running windows 95 in this day and age. That was what I was running before 10. It is day and night different, but in a good way. People complain about Bloatware. Shit it is that way since it has way more features. You think a program is going to get smaller that has more stuff to offer? It is like the same crap people complain about Sony menus. It is Huge because it has a ton of features most of the others don't have. Hell if you don't even have 4k, face detect, IBIS, EVF, on and on I can have a menu that is only 1 page! Can it be better, well heck yes, but it Ain't going to be 2 pages long. Get 10, it works and has worked for years now. It is sort of foreign at first, no doubt about that.

lol... Because of those stints with Kimmel... I can't take Matt Damon seriously. Me and my wife were the only ones laughing at this guy when he woke up and he started crying in Interstellar (and that was supposed to be a serious scene too).

Canon TV-16 25mm 1.4 (shot wide open with the bmpcc): I've just played around with it for a couple of minutes and I love it already. It's sharp, with bokeh that's not as swirly and crazy as other c-mount lenses. I'll post footage later today.

  16. There is an electronic follow focus that will get AF in a firmware update. It means AF of on manual lenses as well. Electronic follow focus or Autofocus on all lenses ever made for any system. I was asked to review it together with a gimbal but will wait until the AF update. (You wouldn't believe how many companies try to give me gimbals for review. By reviewing the cranes it seems like I opened a Pandora box.)

  17. Bolex nailed motion. Ccd + global shutter. Ultimate indie cine cam and still worthy to be called BMPCCii or URSAmicro imo.

  18. Codec is big, too. Pro Res on the pocket is amazing. Not just the quality, but it just edits sooooooooooooo smoothly, and even if it's not RAW, it always surprises me with how robust it is for color correction. Even Pro Res LT. The Pocket's codec choices are dynamite.

  23. I shoot vertical video when creating content that is specifically aimed for social media (either instagram or Facebook). I did a series of videos for the San Diego Chargers, and after doing a couple square videos and traditional widescreen 16:9, the square ones got more interaction on Facebook. I find this to be the same case on Instagram, where a vertical video takes up more real estate in the feed and thus demands more attention. For Instagram feeds though, video can only be 5:4 not 16:9. or you can go square of course. Several people I follow have gone from shooting standard youtube vlogs to shooting just for Instagram stories, and walk around with vlog setups but have the camera vertical (https://www.instagram.com/jessedriftwood/ probably being the best example). I've shot a couple videos like this while on trips and some commissioned work for music festivals, but it's just kind of a bummer that all the footage can only be used for one specific purpose. It obviously looks awful if you try to share vertical video anywhere on the web.

  24. Of course it can also function as a video camera. It is a hybrid just as the designer is saying in that video. jonpais could have taken a screenshot of the interview two seconds later when the same guys says “especially for photo use”. He also says a few seconds later that this camera can function as a solution for very small video projects. It’s not a professional video camera. It is a professional grade stills camera however. I remember reading elsewhere about this too. Perhaps it was Billy in the camerastoretv interview saying apropos the lack of 10bit that let’s not forget that this is not primarily a video camera. I forgot. In the dpreview interview the same designer talks about how the XH1 is made with DSLR users in mind. The grip, robustness and improved autofocus makes this camera a more viable D500 or 7D alternative. The Fuji 200 f2 is coming later this year and that is a large heavy lens that this camera was made for. I can see it as a perfect mate to the 50-140 2.8 and the 16-55 f2.8. We can start counting photo features vs video features in the design. It’s more optimised for photography. As are the lenses with the exception of the new MK zooms. Hybrid cameras are in demand and it’s great to see Fujifilm putting some good video features including one simulation for video. I think it can be a very versatile camera but if my main objective was video then I think the GH5 is still better, for video. But I don’t think the XH1 was ever intended to really outdo the GH5 on video. The XH1 is a professional mirrorless stills camera with excellent video features. Just as, say, the EM1ii.

  25. That caught my eye in the video too when I was watching it, so I messaged Tim on Instagram and he said it was for a vlog that he's recording for his channel while he's shooting with Kai. I studied the screenshots as I have created a similar setup, but what I couldn't see was where Kai's lav mic was going - it's not going into the GoPro or into the GH5, so I suspect it's an outboard recorder of some kind tucked in a pocket and synced manually. This makes sense as occasionally Kai will be a long distance from the camera but still audible. When you vlog you want something wide angle that will focus reliably, the GoPro seems pretty well suited for that. My setup for home videos is a Rode VMP+ pointing forwards going into my XC10, and my old GoPro Hero 3 with a Rode VideoMicro pointing backwards at me. The GoPro will be used in 2.7k Wide mode with Protune for a semi-flat profile, and also for timelapses of things like sunsets, where because it's recording photos and not video, it gets a very high bitrate UHD output and can use slower shutter speeds so its poor ISO performance will only come into play when it gets much darker than for video. I'm still working out the kinks with this setup but for the first time I might actually appear in the videos I make!

  31. I definitely took a big liking to stills. It's a fun challenge for the reasons you mentioned. Plus, it's quicker and easier in a lot of ways. Don't need a gimbal or a tripod. Just a camera and even one prime lens can make for an enjoyable day. Plus I quite like editing photos, whereas editing video can feel like a bit of a slog, even though the end result is satisfying. Photos provide much more instant gratification. I can edit a few quickly and throw them on instagram. Video is a bigger investment, and you often don't even know if the edit is going to work until you put in some significant time. What I've also noticed is that the subject matter determines whether I'm going to want to shoot video or stills. On vacation or hiking with a bunch of landscapes and scenery? Stills all the way. In a gym with my buddies getting action shots? In that situation, I find video is way more satisfying. Movement is so key, and stills lose a lot of it, even if you get a good one. So I like doing both. Which means....when it comes time to upgrade, I'm going to gave a HELL of a time picking between the damn GH5 and GH5s.

  32. that feeling when a new camera [ and u really up to it ] is out and u should go through mass of lame videos which was recorded by people [ trying hard to pretend to know something ] to get a pinch of info u really liked to know ) and Fuji service in Russia is really sucks [ actually there's none official service) ] and I fuckin hate [ as a x-t2 owner I'm feeling kinda fucked when to get internal FLOG and new film profile u should pay for new model and in a new model there's even no such thing as 200Mbit 1080p60 ] Fuji developer team for staying with previous processor and battery [ seriously, they promise to develop internal flog in fw "if someone interested" and now just releasing internal flog... in a new model ] fuckin hate them for adding so much fun features so there's no way I'm staying with no IBIS when I can get IBIS and a Fuji distribution of color data [ where Fuji have like a century of improvements) ] and of course fuckin love Fuji for wonderful tools they developing as a happy x-t2 owner [ even if its monitor breaking on shoots after a half a year and I need to shoot through EVF like a loser and them go to awful service where my sensor was "cleaned" like it was wiped by a finger. and sony a7s [ which was claimed by many as a "poorly manufactured"] worked for 3 years of stressful conditions ] DISCLAIMER for sensitive persons [ I'm caring about thos kind of people! ] : there was no offensive words used in this text. if u are thinkin there is - no, there wasn,t - maybe it was coincidence. I hope I'm not gonna banned here for this. in this temple of independence. and if someone still reading - my point is: there always some positive and negative sides, just chose what u're like better/ what's suits your needs better [ and please don't talk about other models in a topic dedicated to a certain model - it's really not making searching a useful info easier ) ]

  34. I chose ISO, which even surprised me! I should probably have chosen price, because who buys something they can't afford because it's good at everything else.. I'd own a Lamborghini, Red Raven, Sony A7RIII, and a render farm! My rationale for ISO is that I shoot run-and-gun in available light, which means interiors feature heavily. If ISO performance is bad, then resolution dies, AF stops working, etc. During the process to buy my current camera I looked at quite a number of options, and eliminated most of them based on sub-par performance in a particular aspect despite them being brilliant at almost everything else, so I ended up with a camera that doesn't excel at anything, but doesn't really have any fatal flaws that I need to work around either. Being forced to choose is quite a revealing thing.

  36. I think the GH4 had both if I remember right. By that I mean it could be set to automatically do it or not. This is for the GH5. which does it also. I guess that is what you are asking about? From what I read, never had one, the NX1 doesn't have 180 degree setting?

  37. @Mattias Burling I used to mainly use Capture Pro on my desktop which is awesome but now most of my editing is on an 12.9 iPad Pro with LR - perfect for on the sofa editing and the big screen is much better experience than a phone. I’m about to head away for a night and I am taking my camera, iPad and instax printer - a nice portable setup. I do want to start doing some larger prints - what printer did you get?

  44. Sure there are a lot of people like that. And I see the potential buyer getting ripped off to be quite honest... These are the current cheapest new interchangeable lens cameras in the UK at WEX... A reminder of all that the GX800 gives the customer, including 4K https://www.panasonic.com/uk/consumer/cameras-camcorders/lumix-g-compact-system-cameras/dc-gx800.html Whereas the 1300D is practically 2008's low-end technology.

  45. Haha, I like the cooler background, but I like your skin tone better than mine. Thanks, this FD lens is kind of annoying me... I’ve had some shots turn out great with it and others... meh. But it’s so cool to have an FD lens on an EF camera. I was surprised to see well well it matches EF lenses... not as sharp but the same color tonality. Here’s a couple more screen grabs from this lens and ML Raw...

  46. Inspired by @Justin Bacle and his post, I recently picked up the big brother of the GB-Kalee that had damaged internals - but luckily the front focusing section was in great condition. The optics are a beastly 100mm front and rear so I separated the front focusing assembly and have been pretty impressed by the optic quality and coating. I post this here as it is a bit more info on the bigger brother of the GB-Kalee Small as it may inspire others to remount or test further these lovely vintage optics as single focus solutions. Unfortunatly I have just started a long term job that does not allow me to spend time playing with re-mounting this beast, so I've decided to sell. From what I can tell, to get minimum focus on this big boy (of 1m) - the front and rear optics need spacing of approx 40mm...which unfortunately is further than the helicoid will allow without unscrewing and separating the two body halves. However if someone was to re-mount or rail-mount the optics in some kind of MacGyver fashion, you'd have a very tasty big boy focusing optic to play with. Like I said, I now have no time to experiment with this myself, but from some rough handheld tests - it appears to deliver the same high quality as it's smaller Kalee brother, but with bigger optics. In a shameless move (but target to those following this thread who might find interesting) , here is my focusing assembly listed on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GB-KALEE-VARAMORPH-Focusing-front-Assembly/253440130338

Oh no, what have I done? Have I gone and bought the bmpcc again? I tried 4K, it was fine, now I'm back to the land of better color and DR, and ProresHQ/Raw files and that s16 sensor. Feels good. I'd say this is still my favorite camera. Anyway, I decided to compare some of my c-mount lenses. Don't mind the quick and dirty lighting and grading, this is more about the lenses and their sharpness wide open. You can tell the 12.5mm is the sharpest because of the aliasing in my beard. I still love the camera though. Here's some bmpcc/c-mount lens footage I shot a year ago (which is what made me want to get the pocket again) with the KP 26mm, KP Yvar 16mm 2.8, and Fujinon 18-108mm 2.5 zoom:

  48. Quite shocking seeing the difference between the URSA Mini 4.6K and 4K, identical cameras! Except for the sensor...... But really, no surprise to us who have been following BMD over the years. Basically the Panasonic G85 is as good (or even a little tiny bit better) as the URSA Mini 4K for DR
