  1. Your aggression and unpleasantness is starting to seriously impact the enjoyment that others derive from this forum. You derail thread after thread with your deeply insulting scattergun imprecations. We get that you don't like what Fuji have done with their new camera and we get that you don't like Mattias. So why don't you do the adult thing and leave both this thread and his posts well alone. Edit: for the avoidance of doubt, I'll be using the ignore feature from now on. I shouldn't have to do that, in a generally respectful forum.

  9. 54 pages on this freaking camera. (Or any) Why is this particular camera so controversial here? I feel bad for the people that actually bought and like this camera, I'm sure they came to this thread to enjoy talking about it with others that like it too. I wonder if Andrew can close this one and start a new one for those that actually care about it? For those that don't, simply disregard it, it's really not that hard. I have to say, it's been a long time for me where I've seen people so vehemently debate each other's opinion and preference, as if that were even debatable. It felt like I was reading an Android vs iOS or Windows vs. OSX comment section. I'm officially checking out of this one fellas. Seen you on the flip side of the moon.

  12. Just picked up my A7III and can confirm the flickering barcode artifacts when recording in full frame 4k. Oddly enough they don't appear in the S35 mode. Will return it tomorrow. It seems to be easily fixable with firmware though. It's a shame because the image is lovely otherwise and the camera feels snappy and responsive, autofocus is great.

  14. I saw this lens in this Forum a while ago, then somehow I won it from Ebay. I got a really good deal, and I believe it is because no one able to figure out how to mount it and make it work. It is hard but I finally figure out a proper way to build a rig for it and it work perfectly. And this lens is crazy sharp!

  16. This was originally in response to @IronFilm asking in the Blackmagic area about a cheap screen for vlogging on a BMPCC but thought it might have some interest for other cameras too. Plus, I've moved it on to be just a bit more than a vlogging screen as well. So... This is all based around of the 3.5" monitors that are designed for the Raspberry Pi. It is completely barebones but supply it with an HDMI feed and some USB power and it'll do the job for you. I just put it in a cheap phone hotshoe mount and voila, cameras like the GX80 here can have a front facing vlogging screen. If you want to be posh then you can have it in an acrylic case for a tiny bit more ! Because of its resolution, you're only going to want to use it as a framing and a "is this thing on?" aid but if thats all you need then its adequate for that. I've tested it with Panasonic (GX80/G7), Canon (EOS-M), Sony (RX100), Nikon (D500) and Fuji (XT-2) cameras but I can't vouch for it with all cameras. Its got a fairly low res screen but the the cameras I've tested it on scale their output but with the JVC LS300, you have to set it 480 and there may be others out there like that but for £12 the worst thing that can happen is you've got a handy little plug in HDMI cable checker. There are a gazillion sellers so take this one as just an example EDIT >> ORIGINAL EXAMPLE LINK DIDN'T HAVE HDMI SO CHANGED TO NEW EXAMPLE - SHOP AROUND FOR BETTER PRICE THOUGH https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/1080P-IPS-3-5-inch-HDMI-LCD-Screen-Display-for-Raspberry-Pi-w-Acrylic-Case/382391593643?epid=8015535815&hash=item590850aaab So, the additional part is that this morning I've been busy with the gaffa tape and the lateral thinking and turned it into a full blown powered EVF. I'm using the loupe that comes with the Sigma DP0 but any old £12 DSLR one off eBay will do and you can supply power via a usb power bank and in this example I'm even running it off a little box that gives you USB power from 3 AA batteries. Once you have it like this then you can then put it on an arm or whatever to make a fully fledged adjustable system. My loupe has a plate underneath for mounting it to the tripod thread of the camera and a lot of the cheap DSLR loupes have this as well for adjustment which makes it easy to attach an arm. I have to stress that the resolution is not all that so take it on the merits of it being a cheap and cheerful way of adding a vlogging screen or a more flexible EVF than your DSLR offers for those occasional times when you may need them without having to invest a load of money and you won't go far wrong. For the LS300 though, which has an utterly abysmal EVF that is so bad that you will actually question whether its faulty, then this combo actually completely smokes it. To recap Screen : £12 Loupe : £12 Power : £3 Mount : £3

  17. The power bank in you link had a built in micro USB cable, which is the one you need. They supply it with your choice of adapter to go from micro USB to either iPhone or USB C so that is just a free bonus so I'd go with whatever type you'll find most useful !

Took the lenses for a walk... and I must say so far I am not really happy with the 24-35, at least not wide open. Maybe it is lacking sharpness? The 35-70macro delivers much better in my opinion. 29. Great work! It reminded me the La Soufrière from Herzog. Not only because of the absence of the expected sublime event but also human nature. Wikipedia describes it nicely: "Driven by either madness or complete harmony with nature, the subjects of Herzog's films exemplify life at its most spiritually extreme. The people who remained on the island had accepted their fate, and had given their lives to God. "

  31. The two 1x1 crop modes I mentioned in my post above are the only ones available on the EOS M. There are no other crop mode. The 5x zoom mode or 3x crop (movie crop mode) are actually misleading labels, since they both do exactly the same thing (both record in 1x1 sensor crop mode - i.e. with 1:1 pixel interpolation). There's no difference between them apart from the max resolution you're allowed to record at. In fact those names only relate to how liveview previews the image for you. I think part of the confusion in crop numbers comes from the fact that the magic lantern menu always states crop factor in relation to 35mm full frame (i.e. same sensor size as Canon 5D), no matter which camera.... On the other hand, the "5x zoom mode" (a label that comes from the Canon EOS ecosystem) is in relation to the sensor size of that particular camera (in this case, the EOS M has an 1.6x crop aps-c sensor). So the real liveview crop factor when using 5x zoom mode on EOS M is actually 5 x 1.6 = 8x zoom, which is why liveview looks so zoomed in when selecting this mode. But as mentioned above, that's just the preview and it doesn't relate to what's being recorded. Do RJ do a focal reducer for the EOS M mount directly? I'd definitely be interested in getting one.

  32. I've read that too, many times! Crazy What they don't realise is: good video = sells more cameras. More cameras sold = more cameras to spread fixed costs over. Lower fixed costs = lower priced cameras for everyone! (including "pure" photographers)

  33. I'm not experiencing this, though I have also not tested in a full range of situations. I sense there may be some issues (i.e. no audio being monitored) that could be caused by repeated plugging in and unplugging an external microphone, but perhaps nothing a quick on/off of the camera wouldn't solve.

  34. Can confirm that when pressing the record button, having already zoomed in, the full view (jump out) is not shown. However, the double tap before pressing record solves this. Also if you press record whilst remaining zoomed in, you can jump back out (whilst still recording) by either double tapping or pushing in the rear horizontally rotating dial. I'm not experiencing this phenomena. Switching using the small (M/C/S) dial on from of body when and when not recording.

  38. So you never buy a camera when first released? Because they are all flawed at release. I haven't seen one camera in the last few years that didn't have bugs out of the gate. The XT2 was a great camera at release, despite its flaws. The GH5's AF was also dumb at release. Go back and watch some of the videos to see how bad it was. Then they fixed it with an update. This was something none of the shills with the early test bodies bothered to point out. If you know of a camera that was perfect out of the gate, please enlighten me. As to Fuji, don't you think a team of engineers and programmers can improve on initial designs over the course of time? Instead of putting that work into new bodies like Sony, Fuji puts that know-how into making current models better. Olympus has done the same thing as well, years after a camera gets released in the case of the Em1. Like I said, its a different philosophy. I guess the alternative is to wait 5-years for a new generation like Nikon with the d850, but even then there were issues. You can take the glass is half empty approach and call them incompetent, but after shooting with the XT2 for the last year and a half that's just not the case. It was brilliant at release, and it keeps getting better. I shot 30k stills last year too, so I'm not evaluating any camera strictly on its video. YMMV. From what I've seen, the XH1's AF issues stem from using DR200 or 400 in video, AF looks good at DR100. And it's AF looks really good when shooting stills. Canon is head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to video AF, Sony is great - but better with stills than video, and everyone else is playing catch up right now. Then there's the fantastic colors from Eterna... Chris What happens when some of this is discovered after large numbers have already bought the camera - like the GH5's F-ed up AF when it was released?

  39. Still, honestly speaking, I think this whole Sony/Fuji feud is pretty silly. Reading this thread you would think that both companies had just introduced virtually unusable cameras when, in fact, both companies are pushing the boundaries of features for a hybrid and especially the features at the given price point. 6 months ago, few would have imagined we would get these hybrids at this price point.

  40. if using Resolve, you will also most likely want to head over to clip attributes and change from "auto" to "full". In my experience, Resolve interprets prores from recorders at video levels which is not always the proper choice with prores files, making the image appear to have more contrast, which may lead some to believe they are not dealing with slog.

  41. This is just patently false. I own the a7r2 and a7s2 in addition to two XT2's, so I can speak from extensive shooting with all of them over the last couple years. I don't want to get into a Sony vs Fuji vs. the world debate, but here's just a few warts off the top of my head. Sony can't figure out lossless compression with its raw files, while literally every other camera manufacturer has. The star eater algrothim still hasn't been addressed. Simple features like a "My Menu" and a toggle between FF/APS-c mode only came with new cameras. The FF/APS-c toggle should have been added to the a7r2, every review pointed out how stupid it was to have to menu dive for a function used so often thanks to the better video on the a7r2, yet nothing. None of the new cameras from the a9 on even have a simple intervalometer, something a cheap, 5-year-old Olympus has. I'm pretty sure the new hardware can support such a simple function in an entry level cam from 2013 can do it. And the app can't do it either, so you're forced to use a kludgy piece of plug-in hardware. Have you used Sony's version of a touchscreen next to the GH5 or even the much hated (on this site) 5dmk4? Its awful. Lets not forget the brilliant cost cutting decision to skimp on hardware and give the a7r2 a UHS-I card slot, giving us glacial write times with supersize files - when competitors at much lower price points have at least one UHS-II slot. And there's the annoying NTSC/PAL warning. Got a NTSC camera and you travel to another country? The camera does nothing until you bypass the message - every single time you turn it on. How hard would it be to not have that piece of stupidity show up? Sony doesn't seem to want to weather seal its cameras or lenses like others in the same price bracket - and various teardowns clearly show that. And the a7III looks like its showing its PDAF array in images with a strong light source - something not fixable in a FW update. Neither is the plastic construction, down spec LCD and EVF in the a7III, cameras at similar price points have better panels and magnesium bodies. I could go on, but calling any camera released in 2018 fully realized is simply being blind to the facts. They all - including Fuji - have issues that don't show up with the limited number of beta testers compared to when it hits the masses and thousands more shooting scenarios. I have no doubt Sony could squeeze more AF performance and make software improvements if they wanted to, but they clearly have a different way of doing things - push a camera out and then focus on its replacement. The a7's have seen little else outside of minor bug fixes, major issues get fixed in the next gen model. And before the a7r3 a few months ago, battery life was common in any Sony bashing thread, its not like they've used amazing batteries for years in E-mount bodies, despite years of complaints. Tinker with any Sony body and a XT2, one is clearly built much better than the other, and its not the Sony. Since this is an XH1 thread, can anyone check the EVF refresh with the camera set to boost mode and tracking subject at the highest stills burst rate of 14fps? The release said it was faster than the XT2 - which is already really fast and close to blackout free. Thanks. Chris

  43. @Alpicat Thanks for the info. That clarifies/differentiates some of the features. I thought that the 3x crop is equivalent to super16 while 5x is equivalent to super8. I also was under the impression that "movie crop mode" could be super16 in size.
