Full ACK - no problem. I can do with my cameras whatever I want. But problems could begin when making it public... There are some hardware modifications (at least at the moment) too...So...But that's what I told you at the very beginning. I said: "I opened the box"... Workflow is as simple as I said when revealing the properties of the screenshot: It's a workflow @Mattias Burling shared on YT in 2014. Nothing new there. It's a common DNG workflow.4 points

Thanks. It was you @Andrew Reid who made me to buy this camera years ago. It was specially the Lisbon video...You were one of the guys not wining and criticizing the H265 (at that time not such popular in this industry), but encouraging people to give this camera a try. Thanks a lot. Andrew, just give me some time to work on this...I tried to explain a few things and got provoked and insulted - because people probably not understandung what I mean. I'd like to share the work first...Above this, there are some serious legal aspects to consider - and there is no answer yet from a lawyer society specialized in this issues... When this is done, I will share the RAW footage for evaluation. Please consider, I am a one man band when working on this - and got a live with many friends, family, sports, shootings, etc. After university-entrance diploma examinations, I will have some more time to spend on it. Be assured, I'll share my results here. BTW: Zero interest in financial compensation when working on this.4 points

Mind blowing Canon executive interview

I haven't adressed him in a long time and even asked him to stop talking to me. Nothing seems to help. Its really starting to get weird when he even calls it "off topic" when someone answers something he wrote himself. He constantly attacks people. Lie about what people have said even though its there in black and white... sigh.. He even make up lies claiming he knows me and my personal life when everyone knows we live on opposite sides of the planet.. I think I will just stay away from the forum all together until there is a moderator that can deal with this endless toxic BS. Happy trails everyone, try to keep it positive and don't let the haters win. Peace4 points -
NX2 rumors

As I have 4 NX cameras and a set of native NX lenses, I thought I could chime in to express my views. The system has served me well for many years (I started with an NX300 as my everyday-hobby camera), and I did use it as my professional entry level system (something I could never anticipate when I was buying the NX300, mainly for its 30mm 2f pancake, the "cheap" 12-24, the modern retro brown beauty of that camera, and a way to adapt my dozens of legacy lenses, just for fun). The system still is sufficient for most of my hybrid needs, the 3 different form factors I have (APS-C pro mirrorless, which only Fuji has at the moment, entry level crash/family cam, and the unique NX500, a must have for anyone interested on the NX system) and that says a lot about something completely abandoned for at least a couple of years. The hack/mod scene gave it a breath of fresh air, and while people were changing systems, bodies (many extra batteries!), and mounts, we were experimenting with maximum bitrates on our modern H265 codec and had the pleasure to use one of the best zoom lenses ever made (S), a native brilliant fish eye (you have to go to m43 system for a native mirrorless fish eye lens), and all the other beauties and rarities (45mm, so good, so cheap!). Whatever @Arikhan does, it doesn't matter to me. If it does anything at all, that would be great, and revive the interest and optimism about our (mine) cameras, probably give it another couple of years of self life. If it is just a joke (I always had the impression of a more mature person than his age would suggest, more mature than most of us, "old timers" here!), then never mind, I already got more than I have bargained for! These cameras are offering excitement, even so many years after their release, while people have already forgotten/get rid of, cameras they bought last year! That is really something.3 points -
GH5S Sample Footage and Reviews

I’ve noticed a little difference with the BMPCC and BMMCC between Raw and ProRes. I would say 1-1.5 stops less in ProRes. Obviously the major difference is in film mode vs video mode and that could easily be 2-3 stops. The advantage of Raw is in the color tonality. Living in the woods and shooting in rural areas, I notice it in tree bark the most. Raw will record the textural difference in a more 3D way. This can easily be described as having more DR but I think it is the minuscule color tonality that Raw is capturing and not necessarily the traditional idea of Luma based DR from shades of whites to grays to blacks. This is also something more noticeable in clouds. Years ago, there was a kid named Zach who used to post here and he was very happy with his t2i. As he should be, the t2i was a great camera back in the day. Well he decided to post an image in an attempt to decipher how many stops of DR he was getting using Tragic Lantern. I think the consensus was 6-7 stops. 6-7 stops. This was from a camera that helped start the DSLR revolution... a legend in its own right. And now, only 5 or 6 years later, we’re arguing about what camera has 1 or 2 more stops of DR... hell the fact that any affordable camera can get over 10 stops is amazing.3 points -

Codependency is unhealthy. It states, I cannot survive in any capacity without another person, which is clearly a self delusion. The only time codependency is healthy is a parent/young child dynamic. But even here, the goal is to ween towards independence. What you're talking about is interdependency, not codependency. Interdependency is when you are in a relationship that enhances your existence, yet does not define it. It doesnt become your core identity but you fully acknowledge and accept this role in your life. You are a willing participant rather than a victim of it's trappings. This is where unconditional love exists, and is very rare in romantic relations. Sadly, 99% of "love" relationships are codependent in structure and expectation. And though some people are complicit and mutual in that illusion of true love, (known as taken for a ride) it doesn't take much for the relationship to crumble when someone changes the priorities around, hence the astronomical divorce rates. Marriage, as most of is know it, is merely a contract of self and exclusive interest. For the state it's even more nafarious. The truth is you don't NEED anyone else but yourself to survive on any level unless you're a young child. But you can desire to be in the company and companionship of others as a matter of conscious choice, if that makes sense?2 points -

Regarding untouched footage - I am not sure why it should be problem. You can always claim to Samsung layers that it was all just joke and footage was captured by eg. RED camera and EXIF of DNG files has been edited However I can understand your worries in case you will release that hack for public usage. Needles to say that Magic Lantern team thinks that tuning own cameras is completely fine in same way as you can tune your own car or whatever. Moreover there were 2 hacks for NX1 in past and I think both guys who developed them have not faced any legal actions. I am sorry to say that but frame you have provided looks like heavily compressed and oversharpened H265. I really hope that real RAW sample is much better than this.2 points -
This definitely seems interesting but I am a little skeptical. I’m confused because I’m unsure if this is an in camera hack where you’ve figured out how to write motion or cdng files in the NX1 (or an equivalent like MLV) or if this requires something in post to complete the process? If it is internal I can only imagine you may have harnessed the Raw timelapse function or something? I don’t know... interesting either way and I look forward to the results. Any way it would work on an NX500?2 points

Shoulder rig for IMAX any ideas?

The weight translates into the way motion is rendered in Dunkirk. The physical effort of the camera operators when handling the cameras and mechanical requirements put on the rigging of such cameras has more of an aesthetic impact than the format size, lenses and film stock combined. Dunkirk and The Hateful Eight both felt significantly lower resolution than contemporary movies shot on Red and Alexa but had a physical movement quality that made them feel like real movies rather than a string of 0's and 1's. Film schools should be teaching people information like this2 points -
Flip, I am trying not to reply to your comments, but you seriously have to "moderate" yourself. This is a community, and we do not need white noise and unrelated drama. You say I "stalk" you, while I am signed in here almost a year before you do, and similar in DPR as well! Secondly, ignore lists exist for annoying people that do not offer anything to the community, you already have "dominated" DPR with silly threads every week (you must have put a "a6300 vs NX1" and "low light performance of the X camera" dozens of time, until I put you in the ignore list, and I can't see anything you post, and I am avoiding your threads whatsoever), everyone participating there knows that and that is why they upvote when I call you to behave yourself, all the rest are just a crazy person's talk, I can't just seriously take any offense from them, because they are so out of the reality, that my mind just ignores them, and simultaneously feel a little sad that there are people talking crazy on "reputable" forums. You already have started to post threads such "EM10 microphone, hack request", "25600 ISO, hack request", showing lack of respect for the true hack/mod scene, and lack of any intelligence whatsoever. I have seen what you did on the DPR forum (you seriously single-handily destroyed the experience for most of us) and I wouldn't like to see the same happen here. Just moderate yourself, like you do in real life (I hope). There is no discussion, please do not respond, and take some time to reflect about your digital life. Take care, and relax, read what people have to offer here, and participate if you need or want, just do not try to dominate the forum, and do not make a thread of whatever comes into your mind, think about it first, or do a search to find out if there is a solution.2 points

Didn't you claim to unlocked 16bit RAW? that is orders of magnitudes greater than 8bit compressed. Even 10bit RAW vs 8 bit RAW is four times as much information never mind the compression... I don't know I'm just saying extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence and if you are for real extraordinary evidence should be really easy to provide yet you haven't given a single tiny bit. @Arikhan, the more I think about it the more I am sure you are full of shit... if you did pull this off you at least have one RAW video and despite spending time on here posting you haven't spent the time to upload any proof... common man. Fuji X-H1. IBIS, Phase Detect 4K beast?
bigfried and one other reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
I just bought the X-H1 in Barcelona whilst I'm taking a break, and I am more impressed with it so far than I thought I would be. I'd say it is a genuine alternative to the GH5 and A7 III, given the similar prices of all 3. It does things the Panasonic and Sony don't do as well, or differently enough to make you have a strong personal preference for one or the other. First of all, the small things... You can assign 1/48 shutter for 180 deg to "T" on the shutter mode dial. Instantly go from auto to 1/48 in the blink of an eye. Very useful. The e-ink top-display is very useful and something the GH5 and Sonys lack! One of the bigger things is the quality of the stabilisation. It's insane. I actually think it might even be better than Oly/Pana. Steady handheld shots are almost completely locked-down as if on a tripod. Even walking glides are perfectly doable. Slider-style moves with your arm come out well. This is one area where it is FAR superior to the Sony cameras, and it has a larger sensor than GH5 yet possibly even better 5 axis.... THAT is unique. F-LOG and Eterna seem superb... I am not missing 10bit. Skintones, codec, all very good especially at 200Mbit which is insanely high for an IPB codec. Would be nice to have an ALL-I option but I have a feeling Fuji will do a BIG firmware update in future. The EVF I think is superior to the Panasonic and Sony side. I dare say the AF is better than the GH5 too, though not as good as A7 III / A7R III. The tiny Fuji primes are wonderful, esp. 23mm F2 WR and the 35mm F1.4. It is very responsive... recording start / stop doesn't have any lag or weirdness. I still dislike that movie-mode is on the drive mode lever, it should be a single button press to toggle between movie and stills mode. Firmware? Stills side is stronger than GH5. The mechanical shutter is the best I have ever had in anything. So quiet and dampened. Mega satisfying! Of course, larger sensor than GH5 and better JPEG colours (Fuji film simulations). I wish the further X-T2 style crop in 4K was not a thing... but it's no biggie, and there's Speed Booster for X-Mount. I wish the quality of the 1080/120fps was a little better... but it's a very nice creative tool. Plus you can access it instantly through a func. button. On paper, A7 III and GH5 are better. In reality.... it's game on.2 points -

I'm thinking about starting a film festival...
TrueIndigo reacted to Liam for a topic
So I kind of want to start the smallest film festival ever… I’d be curious to hear feedback I like the idea of starting something as a way of meeting people and getting somewhere for myself, but also as a way of doing something for others that I wish was done for me way back when. I also think we’re just due for a revolution… and I don’t know if I’ll be able to start it, but I’m so sick of every other option right now. Channel 101 is a bit of an inspiration for this maybe, though I don’t love their format, and maybe that has become slightly too big now anyway and lost a little bit of its original charm. I want it to be entirely inclusive, no submission fee, not one gets rejected (unless they have a budget etc and know that they’re too big for us). So it would have to stay small but still be fun. If we get too much interest, we’d have to rent a big venue, maybe get a sponsor, charge a submission fee, turn people away, which all sounds like what I’m trying to avoid… And if no one is interested, it can’t happen. I’d probably want to keep it kinda local, which could help make it only filmmakers who are actually going to show up. Maybe I could get some guest speakers. I do know a couple people… Filmmakers could talk about their films. And it would just be one night, so people wouldn’t be tempted to only show up for their own films, which is the worst. Anyway, does this sound like something any of you would be interested in? Just trying to gauge reactions. Like maybe it’s actually unappealing that no one gets rejected? The idea probably needs a lot of work. Please let me know if you have any input.1 point -

Hey, thanks for watching! Now that we have a couple of these made we can show the artists to give them an idea for what we do, and schedule a time to film. Right now we're just trying to grow the channel and develop early content for the collective so short and sweet is the name of the game. I film the artist working on something and get a feel for how they react to the camera, then we do a quick interview and I pick out some points for the video.I try to keep the interviews short seeing as I'm shooting for about 2-5 min. final.1 point -

These videos are so inspirational. A pleasure to watch. Thanks for sharing! How do you approach your talents? Do you ask them to prepare some kind of 'speech' and then record it or is it more like an interview?1 point -
i like your idea @Liam! i think the fundamentals are there... one night, more of a party than an awards show (?), sounds like fun! what i would say is, find a venue, get some pricing, see about guest speakers (not the ones that antifa shows up for unless youre going that direction), and see if this event can be produced for little to no money. stuff adds up! if youre trynna keep it frugal, an informal BYOB thing could be cool! feels very grassroots-y and although ofc in ohio you dont have the filmmaker base of LA, in SoCal youre competing with EVERYTHING. fookin EVERYTHING. virtually endless options for entertainment. so, rallying ppl to go to a "happening" is a whole different story... and its a huge accomplishment to get any attention at all. so theres a major silver lining there! additionally: make it look sicc. the graphic design of channel 101 dot com had me clicking away in .25 seconds... if its the irony/comedy channel then ok, but you want to LOOK professional in your advertising... the only way you rlly can with no money right lol anyway, i say go for it! i might go if i was around and thats saying a lot bc i hate doing things1 point

I don't share my views to negate other's. I simply offer up another in road to a consciousness much bigger than mine. Yes, in the physical material sense, absolutely. Even introverts like myself desire physical companishionship on some level, albiet maybe less than others. And terms of practicality, we live within an ecosystem. Granted. But more metaphorically, to know your true nature you need nothing but being aware of your own thoughts and sensations. If you can sit, breath and watch your thoughts eb without judgement or labeling you will understand "who" you truly are, which has very little to do with self, let alone other selves. In my younger years I sat and meditated for 10 days straight. Obviously with breaks to eat, sleep, etc. I spoke with no one else the entire time. It was just me, my breath and my thoughts. I learned so, so much, which stays with me some 15 years later. I reccomend it.1 point -

There is a local one here called The Rocket City Film Festival that has a very low submission fee ($15, i think) and is only one night with mostly local-ish films. They have a very cool small venue but i don't know if they turn any submissions down. They accepted a couple of mine. The thing they are missing from what you mentioned is discussion. I was pretty disappointed that every one split as soon it was over and the groups there with a film clustered together, not much networking. They didn't even introduce the filmmakers in attendance. What you're talking about would be great. Go for it.1 point -

It is unfair that most of the people demand "proof" or otherwise, do not belong in the NX community (e.g do not own an NX camera). I would take their posts with tons of grain of salt. The NX community has taken a different and less mainstream turn through the "hardship" years. We do not care for "fast results, fast", we can wait for another week, that the poor guy asked to prepare his whole concept. Certainly @Arikhan, and whoever, do not owe us a thing, and that's it. He could just as easily never said a word, and experiment on his own and with his closest friends Whatever he achieves, even the slightest improvement, would be a huge win, or not. That doesn't changes a thing for me and a few others.1 point

Yea I know your right but I still feel the need to rebut because that's just the way I am lol. 1. A good working romantic relationship does work on psychological and emotional codependency and there is nothing wrong with that at all. You both depend on each other psychological and emotionally so that you can be stronger together than separate. Not sure this is what we are really talking about here but yes I agree. 2. I do not believe my nation(Canada) has my best interests at heart. I believe they have the whole nations best interests at heart which at times goes against my interests and at times goes with it and that is how good democracy works. The problem is too many people just take things at face value and don't think for themselves which makes it too easy for a small group of people to convince a larger group of people that they have shared interests case and point with the Republicans in the US. They have successfully convinced a very large group of poor to middle-class people that they share the same interests as a small group of rich elites and corporations and that they should do things like remove regulations that were put in place to protect them. 3. Yes, I have heard of the world bank and all the issues with unregulated banking. All the more reason to be skeptical of people and their possible nefarious motives.1 point -

Isn’t the main advantage with the two different modes to have different settings? I understand if using physical controls; a lot of operations are necessary, but is it the case that if using the silent touch controls the camera remembers aperture, shutter speed and iso set for video? So it doesn’t matter what the shutter and aperture dials are set to? It overrides them? That would be good. Then there is separate focus settings and AWB settings. Not to mention picture controls. I can’t use them on my X-Pro 2 but even if I could I would have to change a lot of things before I would press that record button. I rather like the idea of having two “cameras”, two completely separated modes. And it’s different from custom settings which I don’t like because I never remember what does what. To simply have a ? and a ? makes sense to me.1 point

Best photo/video hybrid?
Matthew Hartman reacted to Robert Collins for a topic
The human eye can see at least 20 stops of dynamic range which is why we can easily say view a sunset without the sun blowing out and see more detail in the shadows than a camera can produce. There are different ways of measuring dynamic range - it is not an exact science. So for instance, Sony can claim 15 stops of DR for its A73 and that might well be right by the way they measure it. DXOmark will almost certainly score it at around 14 stops using their method. By Bill Claff's measurements it is 11.6 stops (slightly below the A7R3 at 11.76) http://www.photonstophotos.net/Charts/PDR.htm The Red cameras do score 'extraordinary' high DR results. https://www.dxomark.com/red-helium-8k-dxomark-sensor-score-108-a-new-all-time-high-score2/ They claim 16.5+ stops of DR but DXOmark measures it 15.2 stops (similar to say Sony claiming 15 stops and DXO measuring at 14). What makes this 'extraordinary' is that the RED cameras are not even FF but are outperforming the best FF cameras (which makes no sense.) Clearly Red hasnt magically improved QE of sensors relative to say Sony. DXOmark says they are using 'temporal noise reduction' which is a fancy way of saying they are combining multiple images and processing them for better image quality. As an example you could take your camera and do bracketing -2,0,+2 and combine them in post which would increase the amount of dynamic range you could capture. What Red is effectively doing is equivalent to this but doing the post processing in camera.1 point -

A/C is standard equipment on almost every model car sold in the US. Like a radio, it's included on the base model of even cheap cars, because it's 2018. Maybe not the best analogy. You can get a Ford Focus with All-Wheel-Drive and a trailer hitch. There are of course some capabilities that you physically could not get in a smaller car or in a smaller camera. C’mon now Jon, Panasonic doesn’t even give the all-i 1080p to any of their sub $1000 cameras. All companies have product tiers with more features in the higher tiered products. The 5D4 is nearly two years old with the older processor. And to many, mjpeg is a solid codec that editing programs can cut like butter. Some of my favorite Panasonic videos were shot in mjpeg with the GH1/GH2 hacks. I don’t really care what cameras people use. In fact, I love the competition these companies have. It only helps us. But this notion that Canon isn’t innovating or they’re holding back is ridiculous. They’re the first company to have fully manual video mode, first 4K DSLR, first 4K 60p DSLR, first company with usable video AF, first company to put a Log Profile in a DSLR... etc...1 point

That's the funniest thing I've read all day! I never get the endless Canon bashing here, as if they're the only one that segments its lineup. Olympus doesn't put the focus stacking and pixel shift in all its bodies - or PDAF for that matter on anything below the EM1. Panasonic doesn't put 10-bit in anything other than the GH5(s) or a competent AF system in anything. Sony doesn't put anything beyond 8-bit 4:2:0 with the same 100mbps bitrate we've seen for years in anything below the FS5 and so on - yet people here are shitting themselves with excitement over the a7III and its non-existent weather sealing, partial plastic body, cheap spec LCD/EVF and so on because of oversampled 4k and what looks like a great AF system for a mere $2000. Fuji, geez, just check the XH1 thread. Where are the threads bitching about the G9 being crippled for not getting 10-bit? Or the a7r3 with its cheap ass single UHS-II card slot and no 10-bit or even a higher bitrate at $3200? The a9 is even more offensive at $4500. Everyone segments its cameras. Its a shitty reality we're forced to deal with. As to Canon, they're clearly waiting to release the mirrorless 5d4 without cannibalizing 5d4 sales. Chris1 point -
Best photo/video hybrid?

100% with you here! Exactly how I feel. With video, I'm much more confident in my opinions and work since I have more experience. Photography, I'm more prone to insecurity, but that will change with time. On another note, photography is a whole lotta fun. Similar in some aspects to video, but different enough to make it interesting. I feel like doing both keeps each discipline from feeling stale..... and not worrying about audio is a DREAM sometimes.1 point
