The kid is not holding anybody else's money, he will either deliver on his own time when he's good and ready, or he won't and we can all go back to our regularly scheduled activities. Brow beating and bear baiting is not going to change anything. I agree it was probably a strategic mistake to start posting about this before it was completely done, but that's understandable given his age and probable level of excitement.3 points

Likewise. It's also getting ridiculous, especially if you don't even own the camera anymore or ever. I'm actually getting disheartened by the whole ordeal. If its real, it's real, if not oh well. I refuse to troll anyone let a lone a kid over it. I'm going to advise him to stop posting replies until go time, it's obviously not doing him any favors. Andrew says a few words and you all go into a frenzy. Really? Arikhan doesn't even have to prove anything, he could keep it all for himself, but his motivation is he wants to give back to this community in particular. As the author of the Samsung petition I know a little something about this. There was never any gaurantee it would work, but at least I gave it a shot. My hope is he will look past the antics of some here and follow through regardless. @lucabutera Its in your best interest more than anyone else here to show support for this kid, as you have some adapters to sell? If this mod is legit it's you that will benefit the most. Your attitude here is confusing to me.2 points -

Insurance. Don't forget to get insurance for the event. Someone slips on a spilled soft drink and next thing you know, you are paying for somebody's hip replacement. (most likely the venue won't even think about you renting it out until you come up with insurance that indemnifies the venue owners.) Find local retailers to try and sponsor your festival as well by giving away gift certificates or swag bags or whatever they can donate to promote themselves and generate buzz for the festival. @mercer Filmjects??? Poor ingenuous... Vasile, Kinoseed and Otto k released the video hack immediately, I posted NXL video and photos immediately. Why so much mystery? Why waste more time posting a screenshot to trim instead of a ready DNG file? I do not wait for April 1 day to take a fish and have me sniffed around by a brat! This forum is a place to seriously discuss cameras, I hope @Andrew Reid takes measures to close the boy's account, I would like to prevent this forum from becoming a site of pranksters instead of professionals photographer.2 points -

Nice idea. Start small. Limit sublissions to like 20 short films initially. And the shorter the films the better (I went to a short film festival recently, where films were upto 30 mins long, and some were very difficult to watch). Get some alcohol company on board (it could be your local brewery) or some food guysè. So that for the submission fee, you get a free pint Free, along with the ticket. People always want freebies. And for non film audiences, shorts are initially a little difficult to sell. I used to attend a large film festival almost religiously and do a marathon watching like 5 films daily, for 5-6 days (I bunked all work during the festival week). I have relocated cities since, but TBO after the festival got all political and stopped giving early bird discounts and discounts to filmmakers I stopped attending. Also, their fee like doubled. I felt they were just mismanaging or scaming people after I discovered how much funding they were getting. I guess the most important thing for a festival is to connect with the audience.2 points

NX1 RAW VIDEO???
Matthew Hartman and one other reacted to Arikhan for a topic
No necessity to be sorry...It's your first impression / personal preference. Please consider the used lens. When putting this Zeiss on any other camera without AA filter and a high MP count and stop it down, I'm sure you would say the same. That's what this lens is used for: top resolution/detailed landscapes, architecture, etc. And - depending on your personal preferences/expectations - you could every time apply an unsharp/blur mask to the footage in post. But: As I said at the beginning of my claims, I use the NX1 at this time mostly for product and architecture photography and videography up to ISO 200 max. For every use case, where I need insane detail...It's just my personal preference these days... Yes - (50fps | 1080p). The limits are: 1. Existing capabilities of the Samsung hardware and 2. Enough time to scrutinize this and do a workaround for it. Just take a look at the excellent work of the "NX1-Hacker-group" here in this forum (Vasile & co): They got stunning results and very useful mods for NX users. I didn't take a closer look yet at their methodology and principles of work, but I could bet, this is not the end of story. The truth is, you just need much time to do this and most such called "hackers" (better use: skilled coders) are simply NOT interested in "hacking" cameras.2 points -
Okay, I think I figured it out, he opened up the NX1 and took everything out and replaced it with the innards from a 5D3 and then installed Magic Lantern.2 points

3.5k Crop Recording test. I was able to get solid continuous recording with the settings below. Raw Record Module/no sound Resolution: 3520x1320 Aspect Ratio: 2.35:1 Bit Depth: 12 Bit Lossless Other notes. I was able to easiy pull focus while recording in 3.5k mode using canon live view in 5x zoom. Using the 3k 1:1 mode with a resolution of 3072x1308 & 2.35:1 ratio I could get continuous recording and pull focus after pressing the zoom button once and using a half press on the shutter button to get a clear live view. With the half shutter the live view zooms in again allowing you to set focus. It may seem fiddly but with these resolutions on a full frame I think it's one of the best ways to check focus.1 point

Read this on the LR blog when it was posted. Impressive performance on m43 sensors - no surprise since that seems to be what they were designed for. They're still really good on APS-c, just not as good. Veydra did a nice job with them. Note the variance, no huge differences from copy to copy, unlike some that are shipping lenses with significant variances. Kudos to the small guys for doing a cracking job. These are companies I like to support. @jonpais Looks really good. Nice. Chris1 point

Cool idea, but there is a lot of planning and money needed for a one night event. Even if you’re using a free room at a local library it will take 6 months and a few thousand dollars to pull off because you have to prepare for the worst. For instance, my friend is a director of a small film festival. Everything was going well at the venue they were using until the morning of the fest and the projector broke. They had to scrape together a bunch of money to go and rent a new projector. Luckily the place they used had a concession stand but that is something to consider as well... you need refreshments, parking, accessible bathrooms. It sounds fun to get 20-30 films together and have an all inclusive, free event, but nothing is that simple. Then you also have to consider the schedule of the shorts or films. Requests from filmmakers to go in a certain place in the schedule because they have something else to do. Sometimes free creates a perception that it isn’t “real” so people become more pushy and expecting. However, I think it’s a cool idea and could be fun. To start small, I would try and keep it local. Perhaps start a film club in your area and do some type of 48 hour filmmaking fest. Or a 7 day to make a 7 minute film that culminates with a showing of the films. This will limit your attendance for the first year while you go through the growing pains of putting together a small event. Good luck, it sounds fun. Or if you want to be really hip and are willing to take the time and raise the money, you could market the festival as an underground fest that only accepts films that were rejected from major/minor festivals. You could probably get some press and could appeal to a lot of filmmakers. Just come up with a hip name for the fest... Midwest Film Rejects or just Film Rejects Fest. Idk, just spitballing.1 point

While you, full grown men, have not the patience (he asked for just a week!) nor the discipline to tame your urges for a camera some of you do not even own. What if it's nothing at all? Will that change your life in anyway? You can choose not to talk/reply on any if his posts, and that's that. I am surprised that so many people can not wait for 7 more days for 1 person, while still waiting for the discontinued announcement by a company with dozens of thousands of employees! Internet is a vail, that can hide real person's personas/character/emotional statement/etc A hack for a camera it's nothing for a young student, succeeding in his entry exams (that will judge in what universities he could apply or not) means the world, and probably his/hers future (we have a similar entry system with Germany, too stressful).1 point -
I'm thinking about starting a film festival...
Liam reacted to Xavier Plagaro Mussard for a topic
I have work in several film festivals, even created one from scratch. Mostly when there were 10% of the festivals that now exists. Main factors: Public: You need people watching the films, besides the boy/girl/friends of directors. Maybe you can sync your festival with some other event that assures you people. All the festivals that survive do so because they have a public. Selection: Local short-films are a good start for easiness, but most will probably suck (sorry for the lack of optimism). So either accept only short ones (less than 5 minutes) or comedies, you can't accept ALL unless you hate humanity and your public. Most directors of shortfilms that suck probably won't be happy to talk about their work. You can embrace "suckness" (?) and do a trash comedy festival. Or a 24 minutes to do your trash film competition.1 point -
Mind blowing Canon executive interview
IronFilm reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
The Canon M50... It's going to be a very personal camera, either you will have a USE for it or not. I personally speaking don't need it. For street photography, I'd prefer to use a Fuji or Leica. X-T20 is around same price as the Canon, so it doesn't necessarily have to be more expensive. Plus the native X-mount lens range is on a different planet to what is currently offered by Canon for EOS-M. For video, would rather use A7R II, GH5, X-H1. Of course, all a lot more expensive, but they are high-end... M50 is not meant to be. This is the weakest debut for 4K in a Canon ever, by the way. But if at some point Canon do 4k justice, I'm all in. 1D C was a wonderful beast second hand...and still is. 5D3 raw was a miracle. There's a lot to like from Canon... But it's ok to hate this one... just as it is ok to love it... if you find a use for a low-end camera, then that's great.1 point -
Fuji X-H1. IBIS, Phase Detect 4K beast?
Trek of Joy reacted to Castorp for a topic
They share controls but not exactly? The X-T2 doesn’t have the separate touch controls for video right? Would seem to me that this would store settings different from the physical controls. Perhaps somebody who has the camera can clarify? I didn’t get around to comment on your pictures. Thanks for sharing! You certainly need raw for that kind of look. Ultra wide angle, with raised shadows and lowered highlights is far from my cup of tea I’m afraid. I don’t like when the lens is strongly present in a photograph. Likewise I don’t like when I can see the editing. Here the deep shadow, the angle and the posture of the man makes for a different story than if the deep immeasurably heavy shadow wasn’t there. Unnerving, unsure, a bit uneasy. Enough to tell a different story from the usual CDF riff.1 point -

NX1 RAW VIDEO???
kidzrevil reacted to Matthew Hartman for a topic
It is exciting. There are many implications of improvement that could be seen with this. The most exciting one for me personally is having a more malleable file for post processing. I don't suspect it's going to vastly change the charactistics of that "NX1 look" and I could only guess sharpness and detail are going to be more pronounced, which I'm not certain is good for filmic, but I'd rather have it and take it away than try to restore what's not there. It would be nice to see smoother gradients, less artifacts and macroblocking too. As far as noise, I'd rather let Neat Video handle that than Samsung. I'm hoping edge fringing or chromatic aberrations are lessened as well. In my opinion it's this that makes something appear video-ish the most. Little in our real environment is ever "outlined" and I currently dread shooting trees against a sky in the background because of it. Stand up response. Your humility with this is downright inspirational.1 point -
Full ACK - no problem. I can do with my cameras whatever I want. But problems could begin when making it public... There are some hardware modifications (at least at the moment) too...So...But that's what I told you at the very beginning. I said: "I opened the box"... Workflow is as simple as I said when revealing the properties of the screenshot: It's a workflow @Mattias Burling shared on YT in 2014. Nothing new there. It's a common DNG workflow.1 point

Regarding untouched footage - I am not sure why it should be problem. You can always claim to Samsung layers that it was all just joke and footage was captured by eg. RED camera and EXIF of DNG files has been edited However I can understand your worries in case you will release that hack for public usage. Needles to say that Magic Lantern team thinks that tuning own cameras is completely fine in same way as you can tune your own car or whatever. Moreover there were 2 hacks for NX1 in past and I think both guys who developed them have not faced any legal actions. I am sorry to say that but frame you have provided looks like heavily compressed and oversharpened H265. I really hope that real RAW sample is much better than this.1 point -
Thanks. It was you @Andrew Reid who made me to buy this camera years ago. It was specially the Lisbon video...You were one of the guys not wining and criticizing the H265 (at that time not such popular in this industry), but encouraging people to give this camera a try. Thanks a lot. Andrew, just give me some time to work on this...I tried to explain a few things and got provoked and insulted - because people probably not understandung what I mean. I'd like to share the work first...Above this, there are some serious legal aspects to consider - and there is no answer yet from a lawyer society specialized in this issues... When this is done, I will share the RAW footage for evaluation. Please consider, I am a one man band when working on this - and got a live with many friends, family, sports, shootings, etc. After university-entrance diploma examinations, I will have some more time to spend on it. Be assured, I'll share my results here. BTW: Zero interest in financial compensation when working on this.1 point

I'm trying to dig this camera but I just can't. To my eyes the image overall looks thin and people look plastic. The motion cadence looks video-ish too. I'm sure you could do a few tricks to make it look more filmic, but with some effort, which is kind of underwhelming for a camera in it's price range. I feel like it's not a far cry from what you could get out of a modern mirrorless camera. Sorry if this offends anyone. It's just merely my opinion. If you like and use this cam, cheers.
