NX1 RAW VIDEO???
Samin and 5 others reacted to MountneerMan for a topic
Just to summarize this thread for any anyone in the future who comes across it before it gets locked. Arikham claimed to unlock "16bit" Raw video on the NX1. some people believed him while others were extremely skeptical. No proof was provided. After about one week the skeptics demanded proof. Still no proof was provided. The people who believed him defended him. The individual disappeared because he was scared of everyone who demanded he provides proof of his claims. Roll credits with cheesy music... .... Mathew Hartman went on to start an anti-bullying campaign and was eventually recognized by Melania Trump for his valiant efforts around the world on cyberbullying Kisaha lost faith in humanity and moved to the woods to live out the rest of his life as a recluse with no contact to the outside world.... He spends all his time trying to hack the NX1 to unlock RAW video. BTM_Pix opened up an online detective agency.... to this day he still takes on probono cases related to the camera hacks Arikham was never heard from again Lol, sorry I kinda got lost in my own sorry there.6 points -

Honestly, Andrew at this point I'd just lock down the thread. There's nothing else to be gained here except more feuding, which is not very communal is it? When (and if) I receive those files from Arikhan, I will contact you via DM to launch a new sticky thread with the findings. Any more information after that will be at Arikhan's full discretion outside of eoshd. For those of you that showed patience and healthy skeptism, it's been noted. I'm sure Arikhan has no issue sharing with those that showed the spirit of community and civil discourse. Cheers.3 points -
Hmmmm.... Can I just clarify that I brought those two images up for comparison as I knew someone would search his posts and come across it and would, in all likelihood, have not couched it in, shall we say, quite the same terms. There are very plausible reasons why those images are as they are that wouldn't disprove a RAW breakthrough. Just as there are very plausible reasons why those images as they are would not support it. However, I wasn't just going to ignore the comparison between the images because it didn't suit my suspected - and hoped for outcome - that this is indeed for real.3 points

For the very first time I considered down voting someone with the above Sanveer post. The full post is full of s#$% and lies. and he got credit for nothing at all, and he asked the people that tried to be humble and bring some serenity here to be banned! I am seriously surprised that so many sane people that I follow here, suddenly transformed to something else, and not very good. I could never believe that I could see something like this on a dead camera's post, on something so insignificant.3 points

@KisahaI would like to be in Santo Domingo but unfortunately I'm in Catania, only 1,000 km away from Rome! :-D I do not have the skills of an investigator, out of curiosity I have a look on Ebay, the only NX1 auctioned on ebay in Europe is in Germany that expires March 31, maybe it's a coincidence or maybe not, until we have concrete evidence we can not know it. @sanveer Good job, Finally someone with a clear mind! What do you think of the second image published? Do not you find it strange a video shot vertically, casually with a 4:3 ratio instead of 16: 9, full colors, I think it's a dng picture, not a frame take from video. @kinoseed Welcome back, as you can see there is someone who claims to have thrown the javelin over your line! We all hope this is true but nobody has ever seen anything, it's a mystery like Bigfood !! First he shows a blurred picture, then a trail on the ground, while everyone is waiting for the first of April, convinced that he will sprout from behind the bush! I just want to warn those who think to buy an NX1 camera thinking they have a camera that will shoot Raw video. If this is the reason to buy the NX1 camera wait to be sure!3 points -

... wow.. it's been so long I really have to catch up with what you are talking about (thanks for the tag by the way). as far as I recall the "hacks" so far were mostly additional software/scripts which were exploiting some of the camera capabilities which were underutilized. (that is, with the exception of bitrate change, and messing with which capture size get packed into which preset video encoding) When it comes to capturing "raw" video, I would say "highly doubtful", as dumping the sensor data (most probably) won't be computationally feasible, and there was no API for dumping raw frames (and digging in the firmware to get that was out of the question). But hey, even if it's an early April fools day joke, no need for negative energy3 points -

Great post, and seemingly with an insiders knowledge of things. The last few days I have seriously lost faith to humanity! A lot of serious and very respectful members of our e-community started pushing (bullying/provoking, and all the rest that Matthew mentioned above) for no particular reason. What you were trying to do? Seriously. Someone said something, and he gave a date, cool, what was the point of all the rest? 1) To expose him? He would expose everything in 7 days (then), so you wouldn't have to wait long. 2) To rush and buy an NX1 because you were afraid that the prices could potentially rise in the future (I seriously doubt, even with raw that they will go higher than they are)? 3) to prove he is not worthy to do anything significant? Whatever reason, as Matthew above said, says more about the people, than him. The result is that we will never know now. Well done to you all, at least you can sleep like babies, knowing you ruined it for everyone, especially us, owning the cameras.2 points -
Not that it matters but there are numerous NX-1s for sale from Europe on eBay. Including from Poland and Italy. If anyone does want one or a lens for one, this video game shop in Germany seems to have bought a job lot. And no, its nowhere near Frankfurt. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/The-Video-Game-Source/Samsung-NX-/_i.html?rt=nc&_fsub=18346352017&_sid=17190217&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14&_sop=3&_sc=1 You did see that it was a quoted post, right?2 points

I don't really think the ISO interpretation has to be a negative thing... On the contrary, it seems you get more latitude to play with and adjusting the F-LOG or Eterna image in post to bring out the shadows by 2/3rds of a stop is trivial, with hardly any loss of image quality.2 points -

Facts: A. The RAW hack is real or not. B. The RAW hack will be revealed April 1 or not. C. Based on previous hacks, the work completed by others that benefits all NX1 owners will likely cost nothing. Just like NX-KS2 or MagicLantern. Both of which I am personally VERY grateful for. Honestly -- please, please stop demanding proof, fabricating conspiracy theories, frankly being a cyber bully to a stranger, shut up and wait. Until April 1, I know for certain that reading this forum (especially after PAGES of all this pointless drama) is no priority for me. Leave the stranger offering a promising hack (real or not) alone. Observe outcome. Rejoice/lament said outcome. Move forward. I personally try not to be a dick about free things to those offering free things before they finish free things that might otherwise no longer be free had I chosen instead to be a dick.2 points -

I'd say equally: you shouldn't at all, but also - never too late for welcoming to club of Jonathan Swift or, say, Alexey German Sr. Some threads here are evolving as wonderful disclosure of diversity of human characters. I'm serious - this and some other threads should be considered as very useful movie-making wise. I mean, as potential of very interesting scenario: zoom in here found reasons and hints for antagonisms or alliances, for selfover- and other-under- estimations, for personal affirmations and psychological compensations, for secret passions, hostility and eruptions of competence, for antipathy and sympathy... and one could get relevant introduction to human history and present. That's so much better than boring site whose sterile aim is to oficialy teach someone how to write an script. So I'm voting not to close such threads so full of actual life and inspiring plays of real personalities. NX1 RAW VIDEO???
Kisaha reacted to Matthew Hartman for a topic
I'm not sure it will matter much either way. Arikhan told me he's done with posting here and has given me the lead to post his findings he outlined in a previous post. (If I should receive them) Instead, he will run his own website, and I can't determine if this means people who get access to the hack will be limited or not. Whether he follows through with this or not I can't really say. But I've been trying my best to mitigate this and it appears to have finally broken down. Let's just say strategy is not our best characteristic. Bottom line, the kid said April 1st. Read into that what you will, but the constant baiting, prodding, poking and in some cases accusations pushed him away it seems, and I can't rightfully blame him, especially given his age. Some of you may believe this is not a legitimate factor but then I ask if you've ever raised a child? Prank or not, you don't approach a child as you'd approach a fully grown adult. If you know anything about biology you would know the human brain doesnt fully mature until the mid 20's. Besides, the kid didn't commit a murder. People's skepticism and impatience or what he views as "hatred" were never his to mitigate nor shepard. He made a claim and very clearly stated that he would reveal it on April 1st. Done, end of story. Everything else at this point is white noise and speculation, fueled by impatience and fear of being wronged. We live in an age where we obviously just can't wait to see what's behind the curtain. We grab at guarantees in a world of no promises and are willing to mow down anyone who steps in the way. I believe this reveals more about us than Arikhan. I know this all sounds dramatic on my end but I have been in touch with him privately. You all pushed him, despite all the warnings. If you think he's full of b.s. full stop there's nothing keeping you from not posting here. But you do it because you actually want to believe in a world that holds no promises. That's not Arikhan's problem is it?1 point -

Thank you. I think both the pics are JPEG quality (4k in 4-2-8 8-bit, and curiously their exposure seems Pretty Off, visible from how quickly the photo disintegrated when he tried to sell it as a DNG file). That's why his effort at trying to fool us fell flat on his face. The position of the cars and trucks at the traffic signal give it away. Also they are less then 5 seconds apart, as can be noticed from the position of various vehicles and ships/boats in the pic. People claiming he is some 12 year old, mentally unsound, undicovered geek, oppressed kid blah blah blah are the ones feeding all the tomfoolery. These members should be given a 1 week ban. He didn't ask money yet, most likely because, Fortunately a Lot of Members started shouting wolf ! Thank you all the people who remember Sadaawi. I am guessing, that otherwise he was planning to make a few quick bucks off a campaign for a RAW hack and some NX1 sales (the Sale for the 31st could have been a Pilot Project with a pushing back of dates, to accomodate a few more sales, sharing more random JPEGs as DNGs). I wish there was someone from Interpol on EOSHD. He would help bring in a lot of (in)famous people from across various countries. There are many ways of improving most pics in post. Also the difference in this case seems minor, at best.1 point

This is a video forum but that doesn’t mean everyone here shoots only video or has the same priorities. I agree it’s a bad choice for longform video shooters but there are a bunch of reasons this is a great choice for hybrid shooters. Want an EVF and IBIS? You can forget Canikon. Want a larger sensor than m43 with more megapixels and better DR/low light? You can forget Panolympus. Want sharp 1080p and non-dimming LCD in 4K? You can forget the Sony a6xxx series. I can also flip it though. Want smooth autoexposure transitions, reliable autofocus in video and fast lenses that don’t make a racket? Forget Fuji.1 point

Sony a7 III discussion

https://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Compare/Side-by-side/Sony-A7-III-versus-Sony-A7R-III-versus-Sony-a9___1236_1187_1162 BTW the DXOmark numbers have been released on the A7iii. There are no surprises but they are impressive - they are well within spitting distance of the A7riii and the D850. The question is where does this leave an A7siii? I know absolutely nothing but I am pretty skeptical we are going to see one soon... 1) Just looking at the numbers there seems no real justification for a 12mp sensor for US$3,000 - the delta on the lowlight performance I think would simply be too low to make it worthwhile simply because the A7iii at US$2,000 is so good.... 2) Of course, there is still room for internal 10 bit recording and/or say 4k/60 but I am not convinced given all the overheating problems that Sony (and actually pretty much everyone else has had) in recent years, that Sony can provide that with a FF sensor.... 3) There is perhaps the potential to take the A9 sensor and its insanely good sensor readout of data to make a video cam with next to no rolling shutter but as we didnt see that with the A9, I kinda doubt it....1 point -

I mean of course everyone has a right to share our opinions here but it just seems like a waste of time to continually write about a camera you have no intention of getting. Fair enough pointing out flaws - those are useful things to post about. But it gets a bit weird when you keep harping on about them as if you have some kind of vendetta. Especially when you start resorting to hyperbole like "Fuji is not the second coming of Christ trust me", which no one even alluded to. Now the truth is we have no idea why Fuji's interpretation of ISO is so different. I need to do more investigating but I believe the DR setting does have an effect on this.1 point

There are way too many strange things. This photo just happens to be one of them. The ships could be in this particular formation during certain times of the day, but the construction crane(s), vehicles at traffic signals etc etc are just a complete giveaway. For someone who is apparently, ahem, struggling with his English, and his early years, his command over language is way more impressive than almost all native english speaking members here. I noticed this in so many posts of his. It couldn't possibly be google translate. I doubt it is that eloquent. I guess this keeps getting more exciting. Almost out of an Agatha Christie Novel.1 point -
In contrast to the other helpful and valid posts above, I'd like to challenge you a little bit around making it smaller rather than larger. If I record a clip on my phone and then show my fiancé then is that the "smallest" film festival? I would imagine that you would probably say that's not a film festival, and I'd probably agree with you, but what is important is WHY isn't that a film festival? What are the minimum elements of a film festival that make it a film festival? If I invite some mates over and we watch a video I shot, is that a film festival? If not, what's missing? More people? More films? Films must be edited? Must be advertised? Must be judging and a winner? Make a list of what you think you require. What are you hoping to get from hosting it? Fame? Fortune? Gratification? Gratification of what? Making community? Making a lot of noise? Making a mess? When you've done that, try and figure out how to minimise it - if you don't need a huge audience then you might not need a venue, which might mean you don't need insurance. Try and think outside the box on this. Ask yourself what you're willing to do in terms of 'breaking the rules'. For instance if you were only interested in the community aspects of it you might drag out a an old Ebay projector (good films look fine in SD) into a park and use your mates car for sound, you'd probably be in violation of some kind of county laws or whatever, but maybe you don't care about these things. Maybe there's a park that no-one will notice you using if you get there later in the evening (in summer it gets darker later so that works too). Word of mouth and maybe photocopy a few fliers would get you enough audience for your own purposes. I think it's an awesome idea and I wish you all the success in the world, but I challenge you to think about what is important to you and have the smallest simplest cheapest least-official event that meets your expectations.1 point

I have just as much right to say anything that is true about a Fuji than you do. Fuji sort of bends the rules a bit on ISO, it is fact. Plus I don't buy APSC cameras. Waste of time to me. I see no real gain to them. When you state the truth on a camera I am not gong to dispute it. I have all the time in the world to research what I am going to say before I say it. So I back up x amount of stuff up with links if I can. There has been some Bullshit statements about the X-H1 ehh both ways, right and wrong. Fuji is not the second coming of Christ trust me. I am sure it will probably take pictures and video just fine. But just not at my house. I am sure it will be welcomed with open arms in yours. And that is fine. If people, me, make silly statements in the Sony forum please bring it up.I post on Every forum. I have owned just bout every camera brand there is over time. I even have a little piss ass Fuji P&S I have had for 15 years. I would hope, and I am sure others would also like to have the truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God, and well Andrew also. We are all here to learn, exchange stuff. I just hope it to be honest. I would hope you do write in forums you don't own cameras in. There is interesting news everyday that apply to other brands. Experiences of people you know, shoot with, work with. I own 3 different brands of cameras. There is no One camera. Hell this Sony A7s I just bought is the first Sony camera I have had in 4 years. And on paper not much is not known about the A7s so I am not going to write anything about it here. It is old news here. But I am a big Sony fan Sensors wise. Hell they are in damn near every camera other than Canon FF ones and Fuji.. And they might be in the cheaper ones of Fuji for all I know? I think unless a person has a bag full of Fuji lenses I would wait 2 more weeks to see what Canon, Nikon, heck even BM might spring on us at CES soon.1 point -

Shoulder rig for a mirrorless camera - how not to go overboard?
mkabi reacted to Matthew Hartman for a topic
^ This in spades. ^ I've learned this quickly over the years. So many people understandably focus on the camera, but really that's only half or less of the entire picture. In my view you want a tripod, a shoulder rig, a 3-axis motorized gimbal, a glidecam, a slider, a vest, a drone, a jib/crane, a gorilla pod. You want it all basically. It is not very difficult to find justifications to purchase or rent it. To not have it available to you is like a mechanic trying to fix everything on a car with just one socket wrench. It's not happening. This is an expensive field. You're going to be paying considerable costs for this interest and profession regardless how big or small your setup is. The tools of the trade are pricey, and if they're cheap they're pricey in other ways that make you uncomfortable on location or set. Give us your set up time. ? Do you show up to the gig early or are you having the client waiting on you for setup? I always try to show up early. I personally hate having clients and talent watch me set up my rig and start asking technical questions, or look at me like, "Is this really nessecary, can't we just point the camera somewhere and hit record?" I worked recently with a very impatient Director. It was hell. Instead of mitigating the expectations of the talent on the ground, the director made setups much worse by trying to rush me through them and encouraging the talent (mostly amateurs) to start telling me what my job should intel and how long it should take. I mean, how much time does it take to whip out a smartphone and hit record, right? Lots of sighs and moans and sideway looks. It put a lot of pressure on me and ultimately the shoot suffered big time. Also, the Director didn't believe in blocking or storyboarding or anything that resembled planning. Never again. ?1 point -

Even a GH4 would work. They are pretty cheap now.1 point -
It's not only GH5, people are forgetting there is also the GH5s option. I would rather go for that right now. Depending of the use of course, but when you do video, for semi pro or pro work, you need a lot of recording time. The bulk of our job is to record something, be it a live performance, a sports performance, reality TV, long documentary takes etc. Even the NX1, a 4 years camera can do 78min continuous take. If I was in the market, and split between the a6500 and this, then definitely this camera wins, I would go for that 11 out of 10, but if anyone wants a workhorse video camera, the GH5 and S are so far ahead that it isn't even close. There is also the option of the A7Sii, it seems it is coming down in price while it will go further down when the III comes. I do not see a lot of people buying this, mostly Fuji users that do a little bit of video, I am not sure how big of a market share that is, maybe something like 0,5% of total ILC sales. The good thing, is that it maybe pushes Sony to make a real PRO APS-C camera.1 point

If your primary use is long form video then get a GH51 point

For me... the 15 min. time limit is not a big deal. Most of my takes and cuts are within a couple of seconds, max. 10 to 15 of dialogue, but nobody has the attention span to watch something in one single angle and/or one scene for 15 min straight. Man... the GH5 & GH5S really ruins things.... I come from a more modest background.... remember the good old days? lol... that wasn't even that long ago.... Canon 5D mark 2 - had only 12 min recording limit.... remember that? It only had 1080p at 8 bit 4:2:0 too This is definitely a huge departure from that.... Not anywhere close to the GH5/GH5S though. I have to agree with Jonpais that since this is advertised as a more video oriented camera it's a little let down... However... in my eyes... this is a true hybrid the photography aspects don't outshine the video aspects and vice versa. Whereas in the X-T2 and in fact, all their cameras... photography is primary use... video is an after thought. I might get 2 of these.... one for myself and secondary one for the wifey.... depending on what else is on the market by the end of NAB 2018. I might even wait till photokina 2018 (is it a photokina year?). I will definitely have to wait for some reviews.... Hey Andrew.... please review this camera!1 point
