Let's put all this on rest, OK? Let's focus strictly on the topics please. This is Andrew's house. His good efforts simply don't deserve it. Nor your past contributions and fellowship, Jon! I'd still appreciate to follow your posts and juicy insights over these boards (your readers need you! : ) so refrain yourself to write any personal attacks addressed to others, I guess we all beg you. We are all human beings. Opposite POVs can be written without offending the other side. No one likes to be publicly attacked, isn't it? As much as it is really unpleasant to see you or anyone else to be attacked here too. Only goodwill may able to be considered welcome. Regards to everyone, E :-)2 points -

Jon your not the Moderator anymore, and I can see why, so I don't think your reply's that belittle people on here ought to continue. Maybe You need to go to DPR. If you have a problem keep it to yourself. You Used to be able to respond in a civilized manner, hell if I know what has happened, but I am not fond of it. I remember an interview they had like 6 months ago their biggest problem was no sensor existed that didn't have too much heat in a small package for doing 4k. Maybe they are using the same sensor that is in the GH5s, and Kinefinity? I am sure Sony would be willing to sell it to them. But maybe it won't work in a small body either?2 points -

NX1 Extended Dynamic Range? New Settings.
KnightsFan reacted to mnewxcv for a topic
Let me try to be clear. By using rgb boost in gamma Dr, I did not achieve more stops of dynamic range. However, it appeared that I gained a stop in the highlights, and therefore I conclude that the "range" of stops shifted one stop from the shadows to the highlights, so the number of stops was the same, though the range was not the exactly the same range. Hope that makes sense. And the only reason I needed to change aperture was because my scene was exposed so high. This coupled with the rgb boost made the scene overexposed at all levels. For instance, I had a middle ground exposure, and 7 stops up and 7 stops down for testing, a range of 15 stops including the middle. But with the rgb boost, I was getting full over exposure 4 stops up, and each of the stops under middle were fine, resulting in 11 stops right? 9-11 depending how you measure. But by closing aperture slightly and make the scene darker for the test, I was able to get an extra stop or 2 above mid point, and reach true black below, resulting in 10—12, like gamma Dr. So back to the rgb boost within gamma Dr profile, you did in fact gain a stop in the highlights, as you showed, but you still had the same number of stops, indicating you lost one from the shadows. That being said, 0-100 ire was still achievable so maybe there is a use for both settings in different circumstances depending on scene lighting.1 point -

No Dslr Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic or others can make me feel the emotions of the Samsung NX1. The Samsung should continue to produce their camera even without economic profit and only the camera body with lens mount Canon, Nikon, or other just to tell camera manufacturers and users "we exist and we are the best".1 point -

Since my rant in the Blackmagic Facebook group about using the Sony IMX294 sensor used in the GH5s and a strong Lowpass filter may be a good thing in terms of Dynamic Range, Lowlight, battery etc. and still benefitting BM color science, broke out into a war I'm trying here again. What would you guys think? - Virtually no FPN - better battery life - Almost 14 stops of DR - great low light, ISO6400 should be fine without internal Temporal NR - low rolling shutter - none of the issues the GH5s is plagued with (strong overprocessing precisely and harsh red channel clipping)1 point -

Yeah, especially for a 'mirrorless' 'pocket' camera... there's always adapting EF to MFT... so, why waste a perfect oppertunity with a limited use EF-mount used on clunky DSLRs. BMPCC was partly so popular because of the size and MFT and even S16 allowed for small lenses (C-mount as well).1 point

NX1 Extended Dynamic Range? New Settings.
Kisaha reacted to KnightsFan for a topic
So changing the aperture change the dynamic range? That sounds more like a property of the lens than the RGB boost. That's really interesting, because in my test it seemed to help quite a bit. Perhaps it is dependent on what ISO you are at? Which would not surprise me. I may try to do more of my own tests later today. 0. I did extensive tests when I got my NX1 and found no difference between any of the MB settings regarding what info is captured. In other words, if you shoot with the MB at 0 and adjust curves in post, you will end up with the same image as you would by shooting at a higher MB. I concluded that adjusting MB is only useful if you will not be color correcting. I think the MB level simply raises the black level from IRE 0 to IRE x with a hard clipping at x, the inverse of lowering the RGB boost.1 point -

Was filmed with a tripod, no DIS, only 2 shots what you can see. ISO between 100 and later 1.600. Don't know if the 1.99RGB causes banding and or noise. I added grain with FilmConvert. I have MB on 10 ... because others do. and agree, I do not live there in that touristic area. I live in the neighbourhood 5km from there. But nice to film it is.1 point

Err.. what? https://www.androidauthority.com/why-are-apples-chips-faster-than-qualcomms-gary-explains-802738/ TL;DR -- "There is no denying that Apple has a world class CPU design team that has consistently produced the best SoCs in the world over the last few years." Anyway, it's hardly surprising that Apple would try to bring their chip designs in house, like they have for pretty much every bit of their business (besides manufacturing.) In any case Apple sells a whole range of Macs, they're not all going to go internal all at once. At a guess the Macbook will be the first -- it's basically an iPad with a bad keyboard -- but certainly there may be Apple designed chips for the 13in Macbook Pro. We think Pro means heavy duty computing applications, but it's pretty obvious Apple sees "Pro" as meaning anyone who uses it for work. They've prioritised things like size and battery life over raw power, when to be honest I think I'd rather an option for raw power at the expense of size or battery life. As a fun aside, I have a fully specced first gen 15in MBP with the Touch Bar, and my iPad runs Fortnite better than my very very expensive laptop. So don't discount what's possible with mobile hardware when you have the opportunity to really optimise for it. Also, err, Prores RAW. Developing a new codec that will be invaluable to only a very core niche of video professionals is hardly the action of a company who are abandoning the Pro market.1 point -

First publishable ML RAW test. 700D, ML RAW, Sigma 18-35. Not a great example of any aspect of film-making, but might still be of interest as an example of lesser film-makers with lesser equipment One thing I found surprising was that the ISO noise from the 700D (not the quietest camera of all time, especially at 800-3200 in this video) was quite organic and natural looking. As the noise changed a lot between shots I had a go at the technique that @kidzrevil has mastered of NR+Grain to make the video more consistent. Enjoy1 point

This will never happen. A BM cinema camera by definition is about DR and color science. The Studio Cameras are rec 709 burned in signals. This is the next gen Pocket meaning cinema DR and color science in 4k. That's a given.1 point -
What's with this clickbait title? It's a great feature but not all that useful when you have to rack between more than 3 different focus points or don't know where your subject will be next, as in an event or documentary shoot.1 point

Final Cut ProRes RAW
EthanAlexander reacted to KnightsFan for a topic
I think we lost the term RAW to the marketers back when Redcode arrived. I'm inclined to believe that, like Redcode, Prores Raw is "mildly compressed images with a color filter," rather than "uncompressed linear sensor data" which would be truer to the concept of Raw. The fact that there are two flavors--Raw HQ and Raw--tells me that at least one of them has lossy compression. And it also seems that some cameras that do "Raw" over SDI have done some processing already, like the C200's Raw Lite which apparently has a log curve applied to it. None of that is to say it's a bad format, of course! Just slightly dishonest naming.1 point -

Panasonic Profile Stepper App
Michael Skoz reacted to BTM_Pix for a topic
OK, another day, another app As I originally mentioned, the Bracket part of my test app was a bit flaky but as another forum member wanted just the bracket part, I've made a dedicated one. Usual story, activate the Wifi on your Panasonic camera and select Connect. Choose the base shutter speed with the Shutter button. The choose the number of plus and minus steps that you want with the sliders. These are 1/3rd steps so its 6 stops in either direction. Depending on your particular Panasonic camera, you may have to activate electronic shutter to get the upper values if you've got a high base speed and have a number of + steps. If you don't activate electronic shutter then it will just go as high as it can with the mechanical shutter and then repeat the same frames after that. When you are all set up, press the Bracket button and it will begin executing the commands, beginning with your base frame and then doing the over and unders that you have set. To prevent overloading the Wifi and to take into account slower FPS cameras there is a delay built in between frames. Download link is here https://mega.nz/#!92R11RaC!4IuYvd7SWu3UKpHzRK6nZA1PFPRruSEDw1nFp7ERXf4 Enjoy !1 point -
I think you've been going really optimistic over there... : D GH5 is a much superior acquisition device in good hands, it doesn't matter how better Fuji IQ seems to be straight out the box, because it is at first glance but not on the paper to begin with. No 4K60p and 10-bit 4:2:2 400Mbps other than that, place both tools in very distinct realms indeed IMO (Mr. Williams didn't. I do. hehe) I'd only appreciate to hear you -- that's all ; ) I'd rather always feel my best bet to listen the others' input. What others have found without letting down my own convictions to coexist as well, even when they don't match in a way or another. Well, it actually depends on the strength of the argument(s) from the other side : ) No need to go further on that one just because it is already too late to infer anything new for the subject matter to my own ; )) These are along GH5S my full top-3 toys as of today. Secrets exist for disclosing up, isn't it? LOL :X Moreover, especially in an open forum like this one. Where voluntary contribution is a natural law, I believe. Or if not, both secrets and forums wouldn't be called like that, I guess ;-) Go figure if Andrew (to only mention the most famous contributor among all of us) would follow such obnoxious spirit... : D No hard feelings, fellow user, that's merely the way I am: a free spirit in the middle of all of you (not alone nor far away to be the only one I hope, once exclusivity can end at the wrong side of the story sometimes ; )) I tend to be the most part I may apply :-)1 point

Flanders Scientific / Sony / Panasonic / etc are some of the common ones I see on sets with budgets. On low / no budgets then I can see almost "anything" used! Quite commonly, just a TV or PC monitor: This btw is the trailer of the film which was shot during the previous vlog from just before: It was just shot on a lowly Canon Rebel DSLR, seriously. A BTS shot of the director (it was her first ever film) and the camera (oh, and you can see my blimp too in the shot! ha): An indoors pic (you can tell from the HDMI cord running out the director is sitting somewhere there to the right of the pic, monitoring the shot): Me again, this was back when I was still using my Tascam DR680:1 point
