  8. I almost bought 2 GH5 cameras (or perhaps 1GH5s). I would have posted a suicide video live somewhere if I had. Thank God I didn't. Hehehe I hope Blackmagic Collaborate with Foxconn and Target 30,000 Camera Sales for the first year (first 365 days, not a calender year). Bye bye A7siii (dead on arrival), GH5s and so many others.

  9. My experience in the past with BM products is to not preorder, and wait till they start shipping. You'll be able to find a small retailer on ebay selling them that no-one preordered from and have it before most people.

  10. The price will intimidate many GH users. A large chunk of them like to think that their camera is the very best: anything more expensive is stupid overkill and anything equal or less is garbage. This price bracket seems to be where the most fragile egos exist.

  11. The worst quirk of IBIS is that directors/producers expect me to use it at 100% of the time, and when I ask time to set a tripod/monopod just look me weird and/or with disgust and hate! A7s cameras destroyed the traditional lighting experience for a lot of young people, and sadly I see a lot of young people in the industry forget about tripods, which is my favorite kind of shot, and they loose completely a few letters that consist the cinematic language. Tools are good, abuse of them is terrible.

  12. IBIS just isn't a pro video feature. Blackmagic's brand is all about uncompromised image quality. I would agree that the Pocket is the one BM camera targeted toward the masses, but they won't stray far from their brand.

  13. I'd just say: don't underestimate good ibis - you can accomplish fast documentary interview with many changing angle simply handheld (and GH5lock mode) You can penetrate to the forbidden places and still shot comfortably and... feel yourself as Indiana Jones...

  17. It's a personal choice. I won't bore you with all the details but the EVA1 is a head choice - pure business - but it would mean using EF stills glass whereas this would let me use my s16 superspeeds (heart choice) and still get tasty 4k - and hopefully 12bit instead of 10.

  21. Here's a quick little spot I shot for a local restaurant's facebook cover yesterday, very quick turnaround because those Sammy colors are so gorgeous! This is basically right out of camera, only a tiny bit of tweaking on a few shots. Normal gamma, color sliders at 1.99, sharpness -10, contrast -4, saturation -2, on both the NX1 and NX500 (the only difference being the master black level on the NX1 was at 15 and obviously the NX500 doesn't have this setting). While this isn't showcasing of increased dynamic range per say, I do really like the way it came out looking. password is jacks

  22. I’m half tempted to do the same but I probably won’t sell, just add to. FF Raw is pretty special. Of course, it could be a year before this thing is actually released... the Micro had a similar release schedule and it didn’t arrive to stores for over 6 months after the projected release date. By that time, who knows what will be available... BlackMagic isn’t the same small company it was 5 years ago when they released the original Pocket, they are a major player in the cinema camera market... so I assume Panasonic, Sony, and Canon’s eyes are twitching a little by this announcement. This time next year, Canon could have a FF mirrorless released with 4K RawLite. Or Panasonic may bump up the GH6 release for internal ProRes Raw and external Raw. This camera is a game changer for consumer priced cinema cameras!!!

  29. Carbon hybrid body! I believe this is a first, amazing! miniXLR and the FIRST ever hybrid, with video first in mind. That is brilliant, I am excited after a long long time! USB C to a Samsung T5?!!?!!?! WTF?!! This seems like a very well thought video hybrid camera. Bravo!

  36. Fair enough, but I would question the subjectivity of the statement? ProRes HQ with no noise reduction or sharpness will beat the best codec on the GH5/s every day of the week. When you add Raw to the mix, the objectivity becomes clear. With that being said, the GH5/s is are amazing tools but different beasts.

  37. I really can't see how this camera will disturb the Lumix shooters. Apart from all the good stuff which BM is known for (such as colour science, colour science and maybe colour science too), the lowlight performance is expected to be worse than GH5 and the crop factor is a deal breaker for many shooters. You can't go wide enough with a 1 inch sensor, nor handheld. CFast cards are expensive too and the majority of GH5 users are still bitching for the terrible autofocus performance, oh wait to see this baby Don't get me wrong, i believe this will be a monster tool for many of us, but it won't be GH5's Nemesis in any case. A better cinema camera? Yeah why not. But don't expect to see this used in weddings & documentaries.

  39. Yeah I just looked at the post 43rumors and that’s how I read it too. Of course, I would mostly shoot ProRes anyway, so I’d be more than happy with internal ProRes Raw, up to 60p (crossing fingers)

  40. It depends on the users. This camera will probably blow the GH5S, A7S II right out of the water. Actually the original pocket already did that. But I guess if you need high iso, IBIS and all those things, I guess a GH5S would be better. But I don't need that. I use lights, and stabilization tools which are far superior. I feel like 90% of this community is for event, party shooters and not for commercials, or filmmaking.

    As we can see, they have written T values different from Veydras - T1.2, T1.5... Actually, and btw - Andrew Chan looks so nice man, although greatly devoted, yet so timid and humble in presentation of its lens-achievements. It seem to me that SLR Magic line suffer little bit because of such non-agressive promotional attitude.

  48. To my eyes it looks like the camera is the same shape as before but has been placed in front of some other unit? Perhaps like the Panasonic YAGH or another camera?
