Hey, finally done with the trailer to our debut feature film at 55Media shot almost entirely on the Panasonic GH5 (some shots on the GoPro6 and P4P) in just 12 days. Our best work yet. Movie is still going through post-production. Production company: 55Media Director/Writer: Uche Aguh Director of Photography: Dennis Schmitz (me) Assistant Director: Ukairo U. Ukairo. Starring: Jarius Drew Sowells, Kayode Akinyemi, Vincent Ramirez, Thiree Pinnock, Julian Horton, Obum Nwankwo and J Shawn Durham as 'Daddy G' Editing done in Premiere. Colorgrading done in Davinci Resolve. Dealing with the usual quirks of this camera, but results are still great. More information: www.imdb.com/title/tt7928156 www.55media.net4 points

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K
Eduardo Granadsztejn and 2 others reacted to hansel for a topic
For me it feels like the Pocket is a cinema camera, basically fully manual also for lenses etc. I feel like if I pay 2 grand for an A73 I would then be stuck with a "system" and need to invest in their lens setup, same with GH5. The "system" obviously brings big advantages, the drag is I would instantly feel like I have to now get a 20, 28,..., 50, 85, 300mm plus maybe a 24-120 (if something like it exists. The P2 is just a "sensor" with all it's limitations. It doesn't demand anything but a fairly "professional" approach to shooting stuff. They don't call him @Anaconda_ for no reason.3 points -

Congratulations, you have just received my first downvote, and probably only downvote... something I swore I would never do because I really don’t find them productive and I believe they only create animosity... which is the exact opposite reason for visiting this forum. But I honestly don’t know what to say about your recent posts, Jon? I’m thinking that maybe you have some personal issues going on in your life because you used to be one of the most friendly, jovial, and helpful members of this forum. But now you are full of such vitriol, and vindictive behavior. I sincerely apologize for bringing this up publicly, but this is getting out of hand now. In this specific instance, you were asking DBounce for his review of the lenses, but then when you heard HIS honest impression, you went on full out attack mode... to the point of calling him a liar with ulterior motives?!?! C’mon man it’s just camera stuff, it’s not worth having a stroke over.2 points

Haha! I couldn't live with so much stress, you are obviously a testosterone-junky doing all that behind your wife's back! I live in Greece and the official importer has it for 1.380euros, there are 4 more re-sellers here, and the cheapest price is the one I mentioned above. I am buying a lot of stuff from the Netherlands, got some friends in Utrecht and Amsterdam as well, most favorite country for sure! Which shops did you pre-order from? @andrgl I am sure a lot of people in the company push a 1.499$ price, and that would still be a steal! How they can do it for so cheap?1 point

On the /ca/ page (I take it Canadian or something; reference is still USD though). Yeah, I've seen here in Europe differences as well. Apparently has to do with national taxes and how prices have to be shown online or something like it. In some countries it says '€1145', in others '1369€'.1 point

Keep at it Danilo, maybe write a one minute short film to propel your tests. When I got my 5D3 and started shooting ML Raw on it, I jumped into a short and I was forced to not only learn the ins and outs of the camera but also to think more about composition and light. In the end, I think it really helped. Good luck and please keep posting your progress... there aren’t many C200 owners on this site.1 point -

I am pretty sure I am not, there are hobbyists out there with RED camera's. So I am no special snowflake. Is it a substantial amount of money. Yes, but I didnt go to film school, I am 32 years old, I worked for 10 years hating my job. So why I drop this kind of money? I see it as a investment in myself. I did not go to film school, If I did I would have lost more then 10K on education, If I lost my job this could be a backup plan. People invest much more money in sports cars, horses, motorcycles, addictions,... So investing 10K in something I love is not that bad of a deal. haha yeah maybe the name dop is dropped too easy, everybody who shot a shortfilm calls themselves a dop, and nowadays anybody who operates a camera. And yeah most of them are in their 20's, and I should note they do not do narrative work. They grind small business for corporate video. As I know zero DOP's that do professional narrative work fulltime. If I knew one, I would be on set all the time perfecting this craft and getting tips from directors, gaffers and everybody else on the crew.1 point -

Sound Devices 633 vs Sonosax SX-R4+
AaronChicago reacted to Kisaha for a topic
Those Kashmir pre amps by Sound Devices (all the pre amps included in the MixPre recorders series) are consider the best in business for such cheap machines. In reality, in forums and elsewhere, professionals are hard to say if it is a mixpre6 or a 633, the differences are minimal, if any. Realistically, for most people, a MixPre3 is sufficient, and does have a lot of tricks in its sleeve (audiio interface/touch screen/usb c), and can be mounted on (under, to be precise!) camera and solve some issues with hybrid/dSLRs, or even cameramen that want to up their game sound-wise. Now, if you want a independent dedicated pre - amplifier, that is a whole new level of conversation, they are literally infinite, and even your local - sound loving - electrician can make a hand made one. There are also some mic and instrument pre amplifiers with valves or digital profiles that mimic mics and instruments of the past. Even Behringer have some interesting and cheap similar products.1 point -

No other camera (edit: of this design shape) has a 5 inch screen. Id imagine for the hinges and joints to be strong enough to support any rotation/articulation would significantly change the design of the camera. Not to mention how easy it would be to then damage the screen once it's flipped out. If you look from the side, the back is on a bit of an angle, which could help with the lower angles. Not perfect, but certainly better than being totally flat. With vlogging, you'd use a pretty wide lens if you're doing handheld at yourself, so as long as you point the lens in your general direction, you'll be in shot. Do that a handful of times and you'll get to know the width of your lens and be able to guess the framing better. Not perfect, but it's certainly doable. @jonpais don't all cameras work better on gimbals and tripods?1 point

o have only one question about the new pocket : why do you think they ditched the articulated screen in favor of the fix one? I mane it was only about the money? how expensive was to at least make it rotate up and down like on the samsung nx1 to be able to shoot from lower or upper angles which happens all the time when you go handheld? probably they assumed that you will rig it all the time but than you would loose the run and gun style of a pocket camera. i don't even wanna go into details of the ceo interview when he's talking about shooting yourself - such a silly way to make it appeal to the new wave of vloggers and travelers or whatever is that niche. This camera dosen't need that and it is certainly not designed for that. How the hell would you shoot yourself without seeing what you shoot?1 point -

I wasn't necessarily talking about hybrids. This camera (if it lives up to the claims) punches well above it's weight/price and could give us a better chance of getting similar competitive products from the other brands (if it does really well). I'd love a product like this from Canon as an example.1 point

Certainly. Brands have been setting themselves up for failure by holding back features in certain price ranges. It only takes someone like Z-Cam to disrupt that, they could really shake up the entire market if they pull it off. Great news for independent filmmakers.1 point

Motion Cadence
Don Kotlos reacted to sam for a topic
What surprised me, even though the clips were synced, there appears to be drift by some of the cams. And not the kind where one or more of the pendelum shots either pull ahead or fall behind the others due to a tiny difference in frame rates like 23.98 vs 24. The clips seem to be drifting minutely ahead in one frame and then getting slightly behind in another and so on through out the clip, but they start and finish all together. What's easiest to see is the impact of rolling shutter. And we've all seen at least one of the multitude of rolling shutter tests involving cmos sensors. In the discussions that revolve around these tests, someone usually chimes in with "well the Alexa has a cmos sensor" and then the conversation turns to "faster read out speed" This, http://tessive.com/mechanical-shutter-comparison/ , which many of us have seen before, at least outlines a difference, stark or otherwise. Whether this is part of what people notice, or not?1 point -
I couldn't agree more. They could do a DJI, wherein they suddenly capture a market that already has many players, but nobody offers the features that they do, especially at the price point.1 point

About half the shots in that are 24p. And nearly every shot in the first 5.5mins (and more than half overall) in my Terra 4k review are regular motion. But you can judge parts of image quality based on a still frame. David Fincher shoots everything in slow-motion, btw, then delivers almost everything in regular speed just so has the option - so there's your utility. I agree that the next hurdle is to use the cameras for narrative stuff. Working on something in that arena now. Stay tuned.1 point -

Seriously, you must be the one and only. I did a moderate estimation of everything I needed to be productive with the Ursa Mini Pro, and I reached 9000 euros. As a hobbyist maybe you can get away with 7500-8000 euros, but still this is quite a substantial amount of money. What do you do with this camera then? I assume that an a6300 is sufficient for most hobbyists, but... ...there are no DOP's with an a6300 as their main camera (or second), and no serious DoP would say something stupid like this, except if you mean 20 years old film school students that declare "DoP", "director", "screen writer" after starting the second semester of film school - I have met tons of those, most of them never made it in the industry.1 point -
I’ve always wanted to film a racing movie, I guess you could say i’m practicing. For profiles I think the Gh5 was set to the natural profile and then I used a combination of filmconvert and a couple little exposure and color tweaks per shot1 point

The Z Cam E2 offers the following resolution and framerate options: 4096x2160 @120fps/60fps/50fps/ 30fps/25fps/24fps 3840x2160 @120fps/60fps/50fps/ 30fps/25fps/24fps 1920x1080 @240fps/120fps/60fps/ 50fps/30pfs/25fps/24fps I am not sure why Blackmagic isn't offering higher frame rates for 4k higher than 60p. I am guessing it is to protect their URSA and other cameras? Which may the case with Panasonic too? If the Z Cam E2 drops their prices slightly, and collaborate with someone for supply chain and after sales, they could actually pull off a mini coup. Also, for some curious reason the Z Cam executive Specifically stated the dynamic range as 13.5 stops. It's like they seem to have implemented something unique to them.1 point

Interesting. Didn't know hat. Yes, tripods. Have a look at the Sirui monopod. It's fantastic: This is the carbon version. I have the aluminum version, cost 160€ in a regular shop. I am also planning to use a gimbal, own the Ronin M (too big) and the Zhiyun Crane ("1"). We could use hyperfocal distance instead of AF. Or we use something like this. You do realize a lot of that metal is exposed and just painted black, right? In case you've never handled one, its not completely covered in plastic. So that would fit your definition of a body. As far as I know, there aren't many exposed bones on the human body. There are plastic bits tacked onto it, but its still the body, your responses are just some BS semantics "I'm right, you're wrong" game. I'll refrain from further comments on a BM P4k thread. Cheers1 point -

Seriously, do you not understand how business works? What do you think the scale of value is for camera parts vs a resolve license? Obviously BM wants people using their software but if you really think this is anyway screwing people over you are kidding yourself. The value of the software is insignificant for them vs hardware cost of the camera.1 point
-
Dude, you had me until your previous post. Now I wonder how sincere you are to make a move for in-the-moment needed cash. You are in the same breath lusting after other things (i.e. the most expensive route of a $2k new body) and saying that you are so broke you need a body in the $500 range. Which is it? And how much can you actually make by selling what you have to purchase other, lesser equipment. You love your camera and Zeiss lenses. Refer to posts by @Mark Romero 2 and @anonim. I am all for cutting out the hardware "fluff" and selling off anything you do not need, but the notion of downgrading might leave you very unsatisfied. I'd suggest being honest and doing a budget sheet to calculate what you could reasonably sell your kit for, actually sell two lenses you have not used in the past year (if they exist), calculate what a lesser "kit" would cost you, and then figure out HOW ELSE to raise the difference in cash you need. I've no idea of your circumstance but picking up some other part-time work and budgeting tightly for a couple months might be all you need. If this does not work, then sell the GH5 and m43 lens and any Zeiss glass you don't use. Keep the rest of the Zeiss glass and say, I'm giving myself a year to get my financial life in order and then re-enter passion film making. Learn some new skills in the meantime and shoot with your phone.1 point

So the final frame was a 2:1 ratio in 4K. Which gave me a lot of freedom for reframing.1 point
