  1. I know plenty that feel IBIS is almost as good as a gimbal and therefore can be used in place of a dolly for tracking shots. As as opposed to me in a car tracking someone, the example I gave. Thats two different types of tracking shots. And by the way you said “locked off” shots which I didn’t actually say and is not what I’m talking about IBIS being good at. Keep trying. JB

  4. A bit of a live update... A ride on the bullet train has given me an opportunity to move the port along and... It lives! More functionality to come obviously over the coming weeks but the foundation is there now. Apologies for the dodgy phone pic

  5. I’ve been playing around some more. I found a better wide angle adapter. It is able to go over the entire lens just enough to cover the lens and be gaff taped onto it. the autofocus works perfect and the new focal length is 14mm. So we now have a 14mm f2 autofocus lens. It’s perfect for vlogging! Also, I found the EVF to be way too small and crappy to use as an actual method for manual focusing. So I pulled out my old BMPCC Z-Finder and it works great! I just gaff taped it to the monitor, but you could probably buy the Zacuto sticky mount for it. (You’d loose the ability to fully close the screen obviously.) Also, I don’t know why but I’m just really enjoying toying around with this camera. I can’t remember when I’ve enjoyed something this much. I had fun like this when I got my BMPCC for the first time, or when I hacked my 5D3 to shoot raw. It’s just plain fun.

  6. As someone less than politely pointed out on the other thread, I appear to have been a bit of a lazy arse in the almost 12 months since I tripped over and found the Cinelike d thing. You may recall it happened because I was researching making a hardware controller and after several iterations, here it finally is. And yes, it does look rather like a calculator doesn't it? The different iterations (including an Android app at one point!) have been in pursuit of making something small, standalone, self powered, fast connecting, push buttons and with an integrated screen at a lowish cost and, well, here we are. Here is the finished spec and features : Compatible with all Panasonic Lumix cameras that can be controlled by wifi Integrated USB rechargeable battery Full colour screen 20 keys with 3 bank switch keys giving 60 direct switch operations of functions Control of Aperture, ISO, Shutter Speed, White Balance, Colour Profile, Contrast, Saturation, Sharpness and Noise Reduction. Automatic unlocking of Cinelike D and Cinelike V on GX80/85, LX10/15 and TZ10 Control of manual focus in fine and coarse steps Control of One Shot AF Control of Record Stop/Start Store and Recall 8 focus points 4 selectable transition speeds between focus points Store and Recall 8 setup presets (each consisting of Aperture, ISO, Shutter Speed, White Balance, Colour Profile, Contrast, Saturation, Sharpness and Noise Reduction) Presets are stored in non-volatile memory so are available in any session. Boot time to camera connection and control under 2 seconds. Wifi control range tested to 20m. Optional accessories : Interface module to support Nintendo Nunchuck controller for manual focus control (native lenses and adapted lenses with smart adapters) and zoom (integrated lens cameras and power zoom lenses only) Wireless interface module to sync remote record and stop on supported Tascam, Zoom and SoundDevices audio recorders. The controller fits a regular cheap cellphone to threaded adapter holder so as well as being used handheld it can be mounted to anything you have a need for with the right attachment so could be on a cage or a gimbal or whatever. I'm going to be doing some more testing of it in anger in the next couple of weeks and I'll put up a video of it in action then. So, I have been a bit less lazy than first imagined By the by, the controller has both wifi and bluetooth so it begs the question would anyone be interested in a version of it for the Pocket 4K ??

  7. It's really impressive. I've found Eterna works better on the X-H1 and X-T2 for indoor and lowlight shots and the Fuji WDR works better for brightly lit and outdoor scenes. If only these camera's had better battery life, that's about all I can find to complain about any more, they actually make shooting fun!

  9. I dont actually own a dvd player anymore. When I do presentations I hand out usb thumbdrives. Isnt that easier? You can simply plug it in to your laptop/desktop/android box/TV/Apple TV etc.. Is there any real advantage to a DVD?

  10. I'm not sure what point you're making ? I use many cameras in the course of the work that I do. One of the reasons I CHOOSE to use a camera like the EM1 Mark II is because it has IBIS. I just used it recently on a pilot I was shooting in Chicago for some tracking shots in a vehicle. The small size is perfect and the IBIS works great. Those shots are in the finished pilot and the director loved them. But I wouldn't use IBIS all the time because it's not really a replacement for a dolly move or slider, though a lot of people expect it to be able to do those kinds of shots. Does that clarify your confusion ? JB

  11. Work in advertising and haven't really had much time for my own projects the past years. But I am releasing a music video in June that I directed, shot (handheld BMPCC), edited and colored. For now, this is my latest, for mother's day:

  12. We are living in a post-truth / alternative facts world now so while it may be factually provable by optical calculations and various laws of physics that the only thing that determines perspective is the subject to object distance it is also equally valid to say a 'wide angle' lens has a certain 'look' that is independent of the format and personal belief in this or any other similar notion is just as valid. Indeed there is evidence to be had that there is a vast conspiracy involving all the camera manufacturers and scientists in the world to promote the idea of 'perspective' to sell more cameras and lenses. For many years now we have all been ready to accept the scientists opinion that the world is round but thanks to a growing number of brave and pioneering individuals and groups around the world the truth is finally emerging that the world is infact flat. Only just recently was I able to satisfy myself that this was indeed the case when I took my old school ruler down to the sea and held it up to the horizon - no so-called expert can argue with that can they!

  13. Recently I took my antiquated Collectors Edition NX-1 out for nostalgia purposes. Came up with this. Shot it with the S-Lenses. Mostly 16-50 + 4 filters over it (BTW Autofocus is null & void with 4 Filters stacked on it) Ungraded Still below if Interested

  14. It seems these rigs are getting a fair bit of attention lately. Here's a review I made of the ASXMOV Scorpion. It's the exact same rig, just from another brand.

  15. Yeah that was the major quirk I ran into and didn't expect. I did a fair amount of tweaking of different shots, but definitely missed a few. I guess in a perfect world I'd shoot a chart or something at different focus lengths and use that as reference?

  16. yeah it's in the same pack, just google fuji lut. i've just tried it and indeed very similar to Eterna with a hint more highlight info. should match up nicely to WideDR profile on my C100!

  17. The point is also that not a lot of other people are doing it. And that it's in person. Blurays would be newer but probably actually less likely for everyone to be able to watch it. And with DVDs, there's a case with the cover on it that could get you interested in the film, and it looks like a product. So.. I didn't feel too crazy, sorry. Maybe I WILL go back to 2004.. when people were nicer!!

  18. Hi, What kind of filters did you use to "render" AF unavailable ? As per my knowledge, only on low light it malfunction, but here you have a lot of light. And yes, some frames looks a bit too colored.

  19. internal FLOG + Eterna LUT is a game changer. Dynamic range gets a major boost and the final look is so much more filmic then before.. it's like a whole new camera! HFR options is also pretty cool. overall at under a grand second hand with the grip & around half the cost of new XH1, i feel XT2 is among best value cameras around thanks to this update.

  20. Hey guys, what do you think about using stone tablets for media distribution? I just came down the mountain with a handful of them.

  21. You could argue that the DVD player may be more likely to be attached to a big screen and surround system so viewers are getting more the experience you intended. There is also the piracy issue in that it's far more convoluted to copy than if its already a readily playable file. The best hybrid solution is to have a simple app that plays the file from a host or has the film embedded in it if it's a short. You can add a few more DVD extra type stuff like BTS etc to add value and it's a very simple transaction system hosting it on the app stores so you get paid and have worldwide distribution.

  25. Thanks @EOSHD_Twitter and @mercer! I need to do more testing. The rolling shutter is so so bad though. Is it worse than a6300? Looks like it to me. This camera just needs to be locked down when in 4K mode lol. Speedbooster is really working well. I need to pick up some EF glass to do more tests. M50 with speed booster makes Canons only fullframe mirrorless camera! One extra thing I’m trying out is adding an adapter to the 22mm f2. I love that little lens and it’s really the best part of the EF-M system. With a beastgrip wide angle lens, it converts the 22mm to a 10mm f2 lens! Haha. Fun stuff. Keeps the autofocus too. The beast grip wide angle lens is pretty crap. Only paid $14 for it. I’m sure there are better adapters out there. But this setup is nice and small. I ordered a step down ring so I can actually screw it on the lens.

Most exciting thing about this announcement is that Sony has no excuse anymore to not include a flip around screen. ???

  27. With the G7 and the GX85 I was able to get full coverage with the Fujinon 12.5mm. And I think they’re both 2.2x crop.

  28. I don't disagree with the fact that smaller sensors require far better glass in order to get similar performance to larger sensors. But the differences that are visible in that test are mostly due to perspective and not distortion, which is really a problem when shooting architecture (both stills & video). In any case, I believe the m4/3 still has its place. Small cameras such as the E-M5ii or the PenF coupled with tiny lenses such as the 17/1.8 and 45/1.8 are a joy to carry around your neck and shoot all day long. Something that even the A7rIII & the 35/2.8 cannot really achieve. If on the other hand you are after image quality or shallow DoF, then instead of start buying expensive & large glass for m4/3, my opinion is that a FF camera will offer a much better solution for the same price/size/weight. Thats why I wish Olympus & Panasonic really put an effort to keep their systems small enough but pleasurable to shoot with. For example I would really love a PenF or a GX9 with a state of the art HUGE EVF that I would want to use instead of using subpar components like the GX9 did in order to save costs ( I would also remove at least half the buttons from these cameras ).
